The Unified Federal Republic Armed Forces
Federal Republic of Hrstrovokia 2005

Joint Chiefs of Staff:
Commander-in-Chief: Prime Minister Alexander Miroslav
Chief of Defence Staff: General Gussev
Minister of Defence: Alexi Mrak
Army Chief of Staff: General Banat
Air Force Chief of Staff: General Tipolov
Naval Chief of Staff: Admiral Valentine

The Hrstrovokian Armed Forces Reorganisation Act of January 2005 merged the Army, Navy & Air Force into the "Unified Federal Republic Armed Forces". The UFRAF is controlled by the Ministry of Defence, which has appointed Gen. Gussev as Chief of Defence Staff. The UFRAF is an all-professional force, however it is augmented by a large contingent of reserves. Six months service in the UFRAF reserve is compulsory for all males and females aged 18-25.

The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic commands the UFRAF through the Ministry of Defence. The Minister of Defence is appointed by the Prime Minister and approved by Parliament. The Minister of Defence, Alexi Mrak, is a member of the Prime Minister's cabinent and is the chief civilian assistant to the Prime Minister in all matters concerning the defence of the Federal Republic.

The Ministry of Defence, or to use the abbreviation MoD, has three lower Ministries, one each for the Ground or Mobile forces [MOBCOM], Maritime [MARCOM], and Air [AIRCOM] commands. Each Ministry is headed by civilian Secretary appointed by the Minister of Defence. The responsibility of the Mobile Secretary is to supervise his Ministry and to advise the Minister of Defence and the Prime Minister on the Army's part in defending the Federal Republic and so on. The highest-ranking official of the Army, aside from the Commander-in-Chief and Chief of Defence Staff who are executive, is the Chief of the Mobile Force and so on for the MARCOM and AIRCOM commands.

The highest-ranking officers of the three lower Ministries, along with the Minister of Defence, Director of the Bureau of Intelligence and State Security and Chief of Defence Staff make up the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Joint Chiefs of Staff are the primary military advisers to the Prime Minister. They also control unified military operations - battles or other activities in which all the armed forces of the Federal Republic work closely together.

The Hrstrovokian forces are charged with providing a multipurpose, combat-capable military service that is ready and able to:

1) Protect the Federal Republic of Hrstrovokia effectively from a direct or perceived military threat
2) Respond to Terrorist activities
3) Help Hrstrovokians during times of domestic crises caused by environmental or other disasters
4) Assist Government agencies to:
Handle civil emergencies,
Protect Hrstrovokia's fisheries,

Crimson Guard Land, Sea and Air Special Forces Korps

The Crimson Guard Land, Sea and Air Special Forces Korps were established on May 13th, 2003 to provide the Unified Federal Republic Armed Forces with an elite group of men and women capable of highly specialized tasks and completing ‘delicate’ missions. The Crimson Guard is open to both men and Women, aged between 20 and 35 years of age.

The Candidates must have prior service in the UFRAF, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of State Security or the Bureau of Intelligence and State Security. Candidates must be Citizens of the Federal Republic of Hrstrovokia. They must be in good mental and physical condition, politically reliable and have no criminal record.

The initial selection process for the Crimson Guards is an exhausting and excruciating physical training test. Amongst the grueling tests, each Candidate must undergo a 24km march in three and a half hours carrying a 10kg pack and personal weapon; a 5km run in less than 24 minutes; a suspended traverse along a 30m sloping rope; a dive from a 10m tower and a 30-minute nonstop swim. This must be completed before candidates can enter the next phase.

Once approved, the candidates take part in a final selection phase. This consists of a one-day psychological test with a computer-assisted assessment; two-days physical fitness testing including a minute maximum of sit-ups, a minute maximum of press-ups, three 10km sprints, stand jumping and a 12 minute run. After this, there is still a 500m swim in less than 15 minutes; an assault course to be completed in less than 100 minutes; a 7km field run with a 20kg pack and personal weapon to be completed in less than 50 minutes and an additional three days of psychological tests.

After this phase, the recruits are accepted and must swear an oath of loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief Alexander Miroslav and must acknowledge that the fate of those who betray or shrink in their duties to the Crimson Guard is death. The Prime Minister excercises control of the Crimson Guard through the Special Operations Kommand.

Some of the brighter recruits will be selected for NCO training. Those that pass the nineteen-month course graduate as Non-Commissioned Officers, while those that fail revert back to the rank of private soldier, and continue regular training for eighteen months.

In addition to their basic military training, all recruits receive specialized instructions and teaching in close-quarter combat; silent killing techniques; amphibious, alpine and arctic operations; parachuting, including HALO and HAHO techniques.

They also learn explosive ordnance disposal; infiltration techniques, including defeat of alarm systems and locks; communications; combat medicine; sniping; sabotage; demolition; foreign languages; survival in the wild; rappelling; reconnaissance; map reading; foreign weapons; foreign vehicle operation and foreign tactics, techniques and procedures.

The operational roles of the Crimson Guard include VIP protection, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, and long-range reconnaissance. In addition to this, the Crimson Guard is used to subvert the military, economic and political potential of a probable or existing enemy. This includes acquiring intelligence on major economic and military installations and sabotaging these sites, counter-revolutionary warfare and the training and formation of insurgent detachments.

Crimson Guard units also are trained to infiltrate enemy territory by many methods, both overt and covert, and can operate 1000km behind enemy lines without support. Although their primary role is to locate targets for other forces [whether paratroopers, strategic bombers or armored units], they can if necessary launch attacks themselves.

Typical targets include mobile missile sites, cruise missile bases, integrated air defense systems, radar sites, command and control facilities, airfields, ports and lines of communications. Other missions include laying mines on likely tank routes, killing enemy pilots in their accommodation blocks, marking suitable insertion sites for paratroopers and transport helicopters, and assassination of senior enemy commanders.

The Crimson Guard Land, Sea and Air Special Forces Korps is made up of the 120,000 strong BattleGroup Zero, containing six divisions each made up of 20,000 troops. The divisions have attached brigades of Army Aviation, Field Artillery, Armour, Army Air Defense, Engineers, Signals, Military Intelligence and a complete ALSG [Army Logistical Support Group – Maintenance, Logistics, Quartermaster and Ordnance].

The Crimson Guard can also call on the support of elements from the Fighter Fleet, Strategic Bomber Fleet, Transport Fleet and Reconnaissance Fleet, which are assigned to assist Crimson Guard operations solely.
