"Good Evening, and this is the ANA World Service. I am Claudia Gellus.

"In a surprising move, Emperor Laevinus signed into law the Lex Canuleia, which allows the intermarriage of Plebians and Patricians, as long as both parties have the expressed consent of their parents. Also, both husband and wife, no matter their status, forefits his and her right to run for public Office, except on the municipal level.

"As expected, the desicion met fierce opposition."

"His Imperial Majesty's choices must have been subverted by plebian elements," said the notoriously conservative Senator Cassius Mellus Septen. "Now, the purity of our society is in imminent danger. Aquinium's most noble families, with histories and heritages dating to our founding, could very well be corrupted by the vulgar masses, with not a cent to their name, thanks to their dishonest, amoral ways."

The Emperor's approval was also held in high praise, though some do not feel the law goes far enough.

"This is a great stride towards equality in our society," said Assemblyman Marcus Marius Metus. "But of course, we are hardly nearer, of I am making sense. The clauses on this bill, including the forefiture of holding high office, are signs towards the extreme conservatism stil lingering in Aquinium. If we can realize that no family is superior to another, we can break down these social barriers in our country."

The Emperor has yet to release a statement.
