JAP:
Today saw the opening of the much criticised Military Research and Testing Facility X1, which has been shortened to Facility X1 or simply FX1. The reason for the criticism is the meaning of the X. This base is completely secret, it is a no - fly zone, the base has the duty to shoot down any plane passing over it.
Released details:
Size:
.5 km X .5 km central base, including two runways, main complex, entry to underground complex and air vent system.
5 km X 5 km outer band used for external testing and thought to hold underneath it the underground complex, the size has remained unspecified.
3 km X 3 km empty band to avoid sounds leaving the area and to detect intruders that pass though the "impassable" security.
.5 km X .5 km unguarded "warning" area, any unauthorised personnel there can be arrested, but nothing else.
Location:
Desert, nearest permanent housing 3.6 km from outer wall, nearest city (Sueria) 8.5 km from outer wall. Situated in the Calanian region.
Armament
Very few details disclosed but it is believed each guard tower, which are at 20m intervals around every wall, are armed with high powered double miniguns, with possible side arms, and replacement guards.
2 Harrier jets and 2 Apache attack helicopters are on constant standby, the Harriers can be in the air within 40 seconds of a go, for the Apaches only 10. Nothing else has been confirmed apart from this statement, made by the head of operations at the base, Field Marshal Sir Thomas Robertson: "There is a large amount of aircraft, all of which can be deployed within 5 minutes."
It is believed there is some sort of Anti-Aircraft missile system is in place, most likely Patriot, but there is no official word on this.
Research and Testing facilities
There is no external Nuclear, Chemical or Biological testing, however it has been confirmed that there is internal research and testing of these weapons, however it is stressed that there are several measures in place to make sure to leaks occur. No other details on internal operations.
Weapons testing is likely to occur outside, however nothing has been confirmed other than this.
