I figure this'll help me keep track of all these research projects Godular is doing, so why the hell not?

Spaceborne Shipyard (Construction): (7/15)
Protium Arc Disintegrator (Research): (1/10)
Ablative Shielding (Research): (1/10)
Phase Torpedos (Research): (1/4)

Future Plans:

Super-Capital Chassis (expected 5 days research)
Genetics Research (expected 10 days research)
Improved CyberTech/Mechanization (expected 7 days research)
Genetic Reconfiguration (Genetics Research Required, 30 days implementation)

Descriptions:

Spaceborne Shipyard- Exactly what it is. This'll be the platform on which we build all of our capitol and super-capitol ships. We'll likely build another when we're done with the first, cuz why have one when you can have two for twice the price?

Protium Arc Disintegrator- Y'all remember the big nasty blue weapons from "Independence Day"? Its a lot like that.

Ablative Shielding- This little bastage generates a monodirectional field of force stemming from utilization of virtual matter, effectively putting a brick wall between us and whoever may be shooting at us, only we can shoot through it and they can't. Effectively the same as Star Trek shielding, useful against all types of attack, though not especially effective against any.

Phase Torpedos- Due to the fact that Godulan ships can maintain a slight connection to realspace while shifted into Protospace, it has come about that Godulan ships can actually target ships in realspace almost as easily as a typical submarine can detect surface vessels. In keeping with this terminology, the Dominion is developing a type of torpedo that can be fired in protospace, but shifts into realspace shortly before impact. Even with miniaturization at its best, however, these missiles will likely be as large as standard Godulan fighter craft, meaning that they can be employed only by specialized carrier craft, capitol ships, or super capitol ships.

I didn't mean any of your tech, just the idea of having a thread dedicated to your research and construction. It was my poor attempt at being funny :p

As I said, I was just joking and not doing to well at it. I think it's a good idea to have these kind of threads so you and other people can keep track of what you're doing.

~Electronic Communication to Gondular~
It has been a long time since we communicated, and as you can probably tell my ships are far more advanced than those old clunkers I first used.
When your shipyard is complete, my forces shall be more than ready to help provide security and my military powerful enough to not miss the devoted forces.
Also, we will have our new military fighters in place by then and in large numbers, so we shall have ships to spare as well.

Oh bugger, that reminds me... Super-Capitol Chassis is only a 5 day project!

[b]Edited to add: Well, you may remember how we were reconfiguring our ground-based shipyard to assist in the construction of small to medium sized starships. Nothing larger than a kilometer in length however. It is actually a bit more cost effective for us, as we don't have to worry about that pesky vacuum, which drives production costs down by at least 25 percent, and the Godulan GravJammer propulsion technology does not depend on what type of medium it is in to work, which enables us to launch ships of even battleship size from the ground with little to no trouble.

That was completed long ago. We actually have a decently sized Godulan Star Fleet, but at the moment, we focus more on home defense than anything else.

The new shipyard will be almost solely dedicated to the production of Super Capitol Vessels. The projected manufacture of the DawnRunner juggernauts is projected to top out at completion of one per year on an overlapping schedule (Nowhere NEAR what it will start out as, however. We'll likely only be able to build one at first, and it'll take longer because building the first is always a learning experience for all involved).

Your offer is duly noted, Enigma. However, we wish to utilize our present isolation as our greatest defense measure at the moment. We aren't exactly on the same plane of existence... the hell am I saying, The Dominion is based in the wacky region of interdimensional reality. All around us are worlds both strange and dangerous, with plenty of nasty surprises to all who would attempt to gain a foothold anywhere near us.

Particularly that Death Confetti. That was a nasty little find.

And those damn teddy bears.

My nation exists in a region of space that cannot be mapped using any known form of technology, has more derelict ships that are still dangerous than a junkyard has car parts, and requires travel rates faster than Warp Drives can achieve to get anywhere in less than a year. You can trust me when I say strangeness is the norm.

Improved Energen

By utilizing the unique qualities of Protomatter in Godulan vessels, we have effectively managed to provide ships with a limitless source of energy. However, it has been determined that the amount of energy produced is sub-par for our level of technology and power consumption. As a result, we've begun research on utilizing a more lucrative aspect of protospace in order to generate power on levels we'd previously considered unimaginable.

Due to the unstable nature of protospace itself, being that from which all universes spawn, the utilization of "Zero-Point" energy actually provides a tremendous amount of energy, rather than the pitifully weak interactions it causes in our own universe. Where it would normally take a generator the size of the moon to power a lamp in our universe, a protospace linked generator the size of a small truck could quite easily power an entire battleship... with an excess of approximately 10%, enabling our larger ships to dedicate more power to shields, weapons, and motility.

Improved Cybertech

We hardly brag when we say that our grasp of robotics is top tier, to say the least. In order to keep ourselves "Up to Date", we are initiating a program to research higher-risk types of cybernetics.

This is nothing so simple as the simple arm or leg. This concerns full-body replacements, or should we say, brain-transfer cybernetics. Already we have designs for massive war machines that can be utilized as replacement bodies for soldiers wounded to badly to survive, and more human-type bodies for military officers who wish to dedicate more time in service than just their simple lifetimes.

Already we've implemented some aspects of this research by enhancing several people with brain-focused cybernetic enhancements, in order to get them enamored to the idea of such prospects, along with acclimating them at least slightly to the change.

Genetics Research

We are given to understand that with some manipulations of the human genome, we can effectively breed in a goodly number of traits that would be quite useful on the battlefield. The boosts we intend to look for are the following:

-Photosynthetic Skin (when exposed to light, the subject can cause his skin to turn completely black, allowing his skin to absorb light and use it as a secondary means of breathing)
-Camo Skin (Uses mechanic similar to Photosynthetic skin)
-Improved Bone Strength/Mass
-Improved Physical Strength
-Improved Adrenaline Control

Given proper time, we could breed this into very nearly every single Godulan soldier, and if necessary, every single Godulan citizen.

Enhanced Flux Cannons

It has come to our attention that our current Flux Cannons are not as "Energy Efficient" as they could be. We intend to develop several means of cutting down energy loss during the firing of the flux cannon, enabling it to pour more energy into the cannon fire itself. This has the effect of either cutting down the energy required to fire the cannon, or ramping up the strength of the flux cannon without actually increasing its energy cost.

M'Lekk'Torr Symbiosis (SECRET)

Protospace is a very uninhabitable and unstable place, this is an accepted fact. However, there is STILL life floating around in this barren Protomist-Filled realm, in the form of the M'Lekk'Torr. For the moment, the only ones who know of the properties of these aliens (apart from us, that is) are DemonLordEnigma and Serpantol, in particular, the species' capacity towards possession.

We had actually known of these creatures for some time, and were commencing diplomatic relations between them in the most cautious manner we could, considering their inability to articulate naturally.

After extensive effort, and the M'Lekk'Torr's assurances that the incident upon the WindRider was an unfortunate incident involving a couple youths that got caught on a ship and lashed out in the only way they knew how, hoping only to return home, we have managed to procure their assistance in keeping ProtoSpace a Godulan-Only Region. Any ship not transmitting Godulan Access codes while in ProtoSpace will immediately be set upon and "Hijacked" by the natives.

In addition, the M'Lekk'Torr have offered us an... opportunity, some would call it, to use strong-willpowered individuals as "Coffins" for dying M'Lekk'Torr.

The method in which a M'Lekk'Torr takes over its host is simple: It erases the mind of the host and saturates the brain with its own essence, doing this always encounters heavy resistance from the host, but the M'Lekk'Torr is usually sufficiently strong to overcome such resistance.

Not so for those who are dying and want a way out, however. If a weakened M'Lekk'Torr tries to subsume the body, not much resistance at all is required to turn the tables upon the invader and subsume ITS will in turn. In this event, the host acquires a good portion of the abilities of a M'Lekk'Torr possession, but manages to keep his mind intact.

It is the final amount of usefulness that a dying M'Lekk'Torr can hope for.

The process is relatively simple, but finding individuals sufficiently strong of will is expected to take a long time.

The Benefits of M'Lekk'Torr Symbiosis are as follows:

1) Increased Strength and Speed - By a factor of six to ten times, healthy M'Lekk'Torr generate a boost even stronger

2) Damage Resistance - A symbiote is surprisingly hardy, capable of taking several blows from heavy blaster fire and even several strikes from a lightsaber before being cut down

3) Regenerative Capacity - The symbiote can regenerate injuries up to and including lost limbs. The process usually takes an hour and is quite tiring on the part of the symbiote. If the limb is reattached, the process only takes a few seconds and isn't taxing at all. The most extreme case of this is being able to reattach the symbiote's torso to its legs after being chopped in half.

4) Passwall: A possessed host can fly through and reside in walls with impunity, but for a Symbiote, it will require much concentration just to move through a wall half a foot thick. However, it is still possible, and that's what matters.

5) Antigravity: A possessed host can fly. As a matter of fact, it is their primary means of locomotion. While a symbiote cannot match this, it CAN do somethings other people would find just too dang freaky:
-Able to jump over 50 feet high, and spanning a football field's length in a standing hop.
-Able to climb walls and ceilings as though they were just extensions of the ground. (Think spiderman, but these don't have to be on all fours)

6) Mind Shielding: As there is essentially an extra resident in the symbiote's mind, it provides much less room for invading consciousnesses to gain entry, much less assert any level of control, and even then, the strength of the host's will is usually enough to push the invader back out again. A symbiote effectively gains a VERY strong resistance to mental manipulation such as telepathy.

As an aside with the mindshielding, it has also been discovered that those capable of telepathy and mind-reading experience an extremely strong sense of dread in the presence of a symbiote. The M'Lekk'Torr aspect somehow amplifies emotional states and broadcasts them on a telepathic wavelength, enabling the symbiote a crude defense against telepathic individuals in the form of a surge of raw primitive emotion that can drive weaker-willed individuals anything between catatonic and homicidally insane for several seconds.

In a rough comparison, we suspect that due to these abilities, a symbiote with enough combat training will be capable of standing toe-to-toe with a "Jedi Knight" of similar combat training, though the symbiote's regenerative capacities would likely tip the battle in its favor.

Holoprojection Matrices

The dominion has been using holographic projection technology for a long time now, providing the command staff of various ships with one of the best designed and integrated interfaces known throughout the galaxy.

Now we intend to take it a step further.

Take a single cargo ship, suppose its on the run from brigands or what have you. Suddenly, the cargo ship takes off in three different directions... at once! The brigands, confused by this, split their forces or, better yet, try to figure out which version is the real one.

Whichever the case, the confusion created by two clones suddenly spurting from the vessel is enough to allow a well-deserved escape.

We intend to implement this. The hologram projector can also shroud the vessel in a cloud of virtual mist that would do a decent job at throwing off enemy targeting solutions.

Descriptions:

ARCHONAL COMMAND CHASSIS

This is our efforts to construct the backbone of what we intend to call "The Flagships" of the Godulan Star Navy. A class of vessel named after the Governate Archons themselves, these vessels will be no less than thirty kilometers long, and fully equipped with the most devastating military weapons the Godulan Defense Directorate has to offer. Its mere arrival on a battlefield will be the deathblow to any enemy fleet that stands against it.

When completed, an Archonal Command Vessel will appear somewhat like a further stretched, yet bulkier version of a DawnRunner ship-of-the-line. However, it will also sport a "Support Ring" that will hold a good portion of the vessel's anti-fighter systems and torpedo launchers.

The vessel will be somewhat less maneuverable than its smaller counterparts, however, it is expected to make consistent use of its Probability drive to make up for any seeming sloven nature.

It will be a veritable Dreadnought.

OTHERNESS ARMAMENTS

While we've underplayed the dangerous nature of Protospace, we've not stood blind to the deadliness of the plane that essentially started the universe as we know it.

There are creatures in that realm that are beyond petty distinctions such as light and darkness, law and chaos, order and disorder. These creatures are simply... primal. While we were fortunate enough to find friends in the M'Lekk'Torr, there are a great many creatures in the darkened mists of Protospace that would just as quickly kill us as they would breathe. Others are more insidious, and even these battle with other forces present in the plane.

Among all these, one force stands out. Defying all logic and reason, it works towards inscrutable whims and flights of fancy with an efficiency never before seen by the likes of man... except for us. This being... no... there is no single entity that rides heard on this vast force. They all rule it and are slaves to it all at once. This... FORCE... has no name. It neither needs nor wants one. A name would imply that it can be understood in some manner. We have simply dubbed it "The Otherness".

From what we could tell, it appears to be the dominant entity amongst the various theurges within the plane, but even that is up for grabs, as another force, just as inscrutable battles against it at every turn.

None of them were very pleased with our arrival. Or that we were quick to glom onto one of the friendlier sects with our treaties with the M'Lekk'Torr. As such, venturing into Protospace for any real length of time is a seriously risky proposition, as Godulan Vessels are subject to attack by these... demiurges at all times.

As such, with a significant acquisition of Arcane text and literature, we derived sufficient information with which we could arm ourselves with a massive array of defenses against these enemy forces, and also provide ourselves with a nice boost in effectiveness against many realspace parties.

For many cases, it will simply appear as though the various Godulan vessels have suddenly become adorned with glowing pentagrams of tremendous complexity, with less intricate ones adorning some weapons. However these symbols provide us with tremendous destructive power against the Otherness and other Protospace aberrations.

For realspace however, we've discovered that the pentagrams offer slight abilities that can have great boosts in military circles:

1) The Pentagrams have a moderate hardening effect on the hulls of the various ships. Enabling them to take somewhat more damage.

2) The Connection to Protospace these pentagrams have causes a strange black mist to emanate from Godulan vessels, providing an extra form of defense in the form of a low-grade cloaking device.

Beyond this, the pentagrams also glow with a strange blue light, which makes for a decent intimidation factor, as one would likely hate to see hordes of matte black vessels with blue glowing arcane symbols firing bolts of pure spatial destruction at critical points on enemy vessels.

And so it is.

DEATH CONFETTI APPLICATION DERIVATIVES

We found it, we use it.

In what can truly be called a Godulan Original, Death Confetti is the aptly named high ordinance of choice for all Godulan forces.

Don't let the festive name fool you, these deceptively happy-looking pink balls of condensed hydrogen come from the decidedly dangerous wacky region of Interdimensional space, where free floating hydrogen bunches up into little marbles that become surprisingly unstable when removed from their home dimension.

Any major kinetic impact and the things blow up like a heavy plasma grenade.

Slingshots have never been deadlier my friends!

But we want to see exactly what we can pull with this stuff beyond lobbing them about like skipping rocks or detonating large quantities of them as a self-destruct mechanism (SECRET SECRET SECRET, nobody knows about the self-destruct devices or how nasty they are).

We want to milk these things for all they're worth! And we'll find out how much we can milk them with this research project. Improved missile delivery, Death Confetti Orbital Rain, Impromptu Minefields in Fighter-Fighter dogfights, the sky's the limit for what we can do with these nasty little pink pellets of the apocalypse!

Your offer is duly noted.

However, our primary experimental effort is in trying to find the upper limit of the weapon's destructive power. While the first firing turned a 90km+ diameter asteroid into pure energy and a shockwave that powdered a good portion of its host asteroid field, we do not know the maximum size that would be affected by a Plasmatic Pulse Disintegrator.

Truth be told, for all we know, it would be incapable of fully destroying anything larger than the asteroid mentioned in the first test, or it may be very much capable of fully annihilating a mid-sized star. We honestly won't know until we try.

Until experimentation is completed, efforts to miniaturize the cannon itself are out of the question.

Widowmaker Details

Okay, so the Archonal Command Ship is taking a massive chunk out of our funds to get out. We're learning. It'll be faster and cheaper the second time. Thing is, it takes WAY too damn long to get one of these bastages ready, so we're starting up studies as to a super-efficient medium sized dreadnought.

Only 10km long, compared to the archonal's 30km, the Widowmaker will incorporate many of the nastier aspects of the archonal's traits. However, two new features are being looked into:

1) More efficient Protium Arc Disintegrators, providing the Widowmaker with enough firepower to knock the hell out of anything up to, including, and possibly over 50% larger than the ship itself.

2) Improved Torpedos, using a slightly more compact version of the RED RAIN project's findings to create some tremendously powerful ship-fired cluster bombs.

These, among other things, are intended to make the Widowmaker more versatile and comparatively more deadly than its 30km counterpart.
