In light of upcoming changes within Sigma Octavus, the increased defenses of the nation are near completion. Already one of the most highly defended nations on earth, the changes were described by one general as,"...covering a mountain with metal plating." A very expensive project to say the least, it was voted in by a majority of 10:1 within the advisor council. The project was started many years ago and is nearly completed, all that is needed is that some details are filled in.
The already extensive automated defenses throughout the sands of the great deserts are being increased in number. These defenses already include SAM sites, tank traps and miles of mine fields. Also included is a great network of outposts throughout the desert.
The primary desert defense being added is a hidden turret. The basis of these turrets are generally used on the primary defensive outpost towers within the city of Thresh. They include four 120mm cannons and 2 AA missile systems each. The new design increases armor and adds an underground silo for containment of the turret. This turret is not automated, taking a crew of six to run. Also in each are 20 SOMI with a single SOET. There are four mechanics there to keep the turret running. The entrance to each is located a mile from the turret in the form of a camouflaged blast door. A mile long tunnel leads to the turret complex, filled with several automated checkpoints.
5,000 of these are being installed in key strategic points in the desert and mountains.
There are three defensive cities that have kept our nation safe for many years. These cities are veritable fortresses, keeping several battalions of soldiers in each. These cities have a large civilian population as well, mostly consisting of the families of the soldiers stationed there. Each city is nearly self sufficient, in case of the unlikely chance that the enemy attacked from both foreign soil and within the nation itself.
These cities are being upgraded with several tank battalions consisting of Immortal battle tanks and the soon to be unveiled Sand Viper MBT.
The city of Thresh as well as the SOGP primary complex, each one taking up a massive amount of land, are being, for the most part, left alone. Their normal defenses are being left in place. The only thing being changed is that the equipment used in the defense will be updated. One of the few old systems that will be left is the WBT-1s contained tthere. These incredibly effective and powerful weapons have yet to fail.
The defense shield 'Sand Storm' is being upgraded with several more anti-missile satellites as well as land based kinetic-kill missiles. Nuclear weapons are feared in the nation, having already been nuked during it's past. Nuclear weapons are never deployed by the nation, and the defenses are set in place so that no nuclear weapon shall ever detonate within our homeland.
