Breaking news:
Vote counting has just finished in the Lasatanian General election and General Roskovsky, a member of the ruling council is to announce the result. We now go live to the election hall, where the general shall announce the results..
Amid the Hall of Martyrs in Korova,General Roskovsky stood on the stage. He looked out at the masses of party members and then glanced downward at the press pit, where a hundred photographers waited for him to begin.
He took a sip of water from the glass positioned under the podium, slowly replaced and began,
"People of Lasatania, nations of the world. I stand before you at this moment in time to declare the results of our nations first fully open elections in over 80 years.
I shall, before I start, add that the Ruling Council supports the decision of the people, no matter what. As a sign of this faith, all army units have been confined to barracks for the next 24 hours. The handover of power will take place two weeks from now, once a cabinet has been installed.
OK, now that the technicalities are out the way, I will now read out the results in reverse order:
The party polling least was the Democratic Party, with 13.92 percent.
Followed by the Progressive Liberal Party, with 24.05% of the vote."
A hush descended on the hall, everyone listening to who had taken second place. Although sat on opposite sides of the hall, Socialist leader Gregor Kolinsky and Reform Party leader Ilena Tylovet, both felt the same sickening feeling in the pit of their stomachs.
It might only hae been a few seconds between the generals sentences but for everyone in the hall, throughout Lasatania, it seemed like an eternity.
"In second place, the Reform party with 29.11% of the vote."
Cries of anguish filled the hall, despite having been a 'socialist paradise' for 80 years, it would appear that the people of Lasatania were not quite yet ready to give up their past. Ilena Tylovet slumped into her seat, dejected. All the campaigning had been for nothing, for the socialists manifesto made it clear it was going to be a return to the old ways for the state...
"And the winner of the election, with 32.91% of the vote, is the Socialist Party!"
Cheers filled the hall as the Socialists, and a large number of military staff, celebrated the success of the party. Beaming, Gregor Kolinksky took to the stage and shook the generals hand firmly. Turning to the podium, he looked out on to the triumphant, chaotic scene in the hall and took the microphone,
"People of Lasatania, nations of the world! Today is a glorious day for Socialism in Lasatania. The people have voted for the return of the Party, and the Party shall not fail them!
With immediate effect, we declare that this nation shall start to take a more pro-active approach to world affairs. Beginning with the situation in Dnever, where we shall devise contingency plans in case the situation worsens.
In addition to this, we shall increase the size of the army, making our nation a considerable force with which to defened socialism.
People of Lasatania, we shall overcome the hurdles that have stopped our nation becoming one of greatness. We shall show the world how the revolution can be victorious!"
In other news, the Reform Party is reported to have filed a complaint with the electoral commission over concerns of vote rigging in the election.. More of that after the weather...
