Comrade Ilya Lekov. His pictures hung all over Tharra, on buildings, carried in rallies; he was a god to the people he'd liberated from capitalist oppression. Lekov, just 13 years ago, had led a short and bloody revolution. In these 13 short years, he'd built a Marxist-Leninist State, brought Tharra from a backwards, agrarian nation to an industrial superpower (using two Five Year Plans), Ilya'd even made himself the nation's supreme leader, and now, at the age of 44, he was going to end something...The Great Purges he'd instituted.
He sat there at the fine desk he'd appropriated for himself, in his office at the Red Fortress. His pale face prematurly aged from stress. Lekov was brought out of his contemplations with a sudden jolt.
"Comrade Leader?" said the tall, wiry form of Comrade Alexyvich, Minister of the KGB and one of the few surviving old revolutionaries.
"Yes?"
"I have the articles you requested. I thought it best I personally deliver them...for safety."
"Good. I've been meaning to speak with you, about the purges." Ilya said, skimming the papers before him. "You see, I have eliminated the...problems. So I see no need to continue these massive purges on such scale."
"But sir-"
"-instead, I have decided to continue keeping our motherland a police state, with perpetual purges. However, the so called 'Great Purges' will end. You see, I've eliminated opposition."
"I see. Yes, well then, I shall alert the KGB Collegium immediately."
"See that you do." Comrade Lekov said simply. As the Minister left the room, he smiled to himself, repeating the statistics he now held, muttering to himself: "'20.3 million dead and 4 million in Gulags'...hmph. Alexyvich has out done himself here...a fitting end for my purges...and with 'most of the old revolutionaries and potential threats gone'...I'm victorious."
