Hrstrovokia announces Construction of World-wide "SeaPorts" Naval Bases!

SeaPorts. Artificial ports, constructed on the oceans and seas of the world by man. From the Atlantic to the Pacific. Capable of conducting trade and staging military forces. Deep in international waters, outside of anyones jurisdiction.

The first SeaPort is due to be constructed in the Baltic sea. This is considered the first prime location, it's close proximity from Hrstrovokia's Polish and Kalningrad shores a favourable factor in bringing about it's construction. Just 40km off-shore.

It would be a mammoth task, a true challenge to human ingenuity. And Hrstrovokian Engineers, Scientists and Construction personnel were ready. Code-named "Mermaid 23" SeaPort Baltic would be built like a massive off-shore oil platform. An island of concrete and steel.

Over 40km in breadth and 70km in length, it's facilities would include a port, naval base, nuclear power-plants, drydock, maintenance and repair shops, communications stations, barracks, airstrip, factories, refueling stations, small human settlement, stores, construction yards, subpen and a menacing host of 200mm cannon batteries and a 300mm railgun aswell as A2DN-5s long-range air defense missiles.

It could be capable of hosting 100,000 troops, 7,000 support, technical and worker personnel, could hold 80 aircraft and 20 large ships and 4 submarines. It could repair and rearm all of these forces.

It would be assembled mostly onland, piece by piece, in the cities of Warsaw and Poznan and carried hundreds of miles to the port of Gdansk on special constructed truck-platforms. It would provide thousands of jobs and stimulate the economy, and though it wasnt essential for the economy, it was certainly a benefit to the unemployed.

It was to be a historic achievement of the Hrstrovokian people. A victory to socialism. It would guard the gateways to our lands. Prove our worth as a nation. And it was just the beginning. Another SeaPort was planned for the Atlantic. This base would desirably lift Hrstrovokia into a global strategic position hegemony. It would allowed Hrstrovokia to be 'anywhere'.

At a cost of more than 1.8 Trillion Gil, if the project was unsuccessful it would bankrupt Hrstrovokia, plunge it into depression, incite social dissatisfaction and unrest and probably bring down the socialist empire of over 3 billion people.

It's ambitious. And construction is due to begin next week.

We would love to send worker packs. They finish jobs much quicker than normal humans. (seeing as they were bred for such activities)

Hrstrovokia has now established the ENATD, [External North America Territory of Delaware] a new naval base, in an enclave of Sevaris-occupied Delaware. We gratefully thank our Sevarisian neighbours, and look forward to new trade possibilities.

This base, aswell as the SeaPort Baltic, will fall under the authority of GSA [Global Strategic Assets] Kommand.

[OOC: Sorry Camel Eaters, I prefer humans to toil under my command]

OoC: As someone who loves big, ambitious projects, I must say that this is a very good idea. Got any designs?

[OOC: Making it up as I go along. The sea floor would be surveyed, an ideal location selected. Obstacles would be destroyed with explosives and rubble shifted. Then a concrete frame would be assembled. These could be dragged from Gdansk by Tug boats.

It would be lowered onto the site, piece by piece, layer by layer. Once a barrier has been built, water inside the frame would be pumped out by specially constructed pumps, leaving a dry hollow hulk.

I've seen stuff like this done on the Discovery channel, so heck, why cant I do it? Anyway...

Then the real building would begin. Most of the SeaPort is below the water, with only facilities such as the airstrip on the surface. I wanted to keep as much below and out of the eyes of satellites as possible. Besides anyway I'd make better use of space if I built below the water.

If Aircraft carriers revolutionized warfare, and all they are is virtually floating airfields, then these islands would be just as successful. You could use it as a base for operations into other regions. For example, if you had one built in the south Atlantic, you would have 100,000 troops, 80 aircraft, 20 major ships and 4 submarines, virtually a task force, ready to deploy within hours to either Africa or South America.

I am convinced that these SeaPorts will give Hrstrovokia the ability to strike almost anywhere in the world, control the World's trade routes and extend it's power World-wide. It will greatly increased imports and exports and allow Hrstrovokian fisheries, petroleum services and other sea-related industries access to new resources.

I might draw a picture of it and scan it, perhaps tomorrow, but I'm not a great artist =/]

OOC: An interesting alternative design to the OMP bases. I notice that they involve a hollow concrete frame. Will this be attached to the ocean floor, or will the structure be free-floating?

[OOC: Havent really thought long about this. Attaching to the sea floor with cables seemed the best idea, but if there were any tectonic plate movements (ok there arent any plate borders in the Baltic, but still, seismic motions could displace the structure, put pressure on the cables, snap them and keeeerash!..)

I'm going to go with cables securing it to the floor, but the ability to detach and float (thanks to an air tank system kinda like a submarines) so they could potentially move. However, this would involve the challenge of building engines etc. I need to think more about it.]

OOC: I've got to go, but the OMP is constructing a network of such base across the world's oceans. Could turn to be an interesting RP.
