As the campaigning for the three Directorate positions of Schultaria Prime has come to a close, we would like to take the time to inform our readers about the potential candidates and their platforms one final time before the polls open for the electoral year of 115 SDC. Since this is an open election for all three positions, the top three Director candidates will be appointed to the Directorate of Schultaria Prime with the person earning the most votes being selected as Central Director of Schultaria Prime.

With only 2% of the precincts currently reporting, it appears that this Directorate election looks to be stacking up as one of the most hotly contested elections in recent memory. As international delegations are intently watching the election proceedings to insure voter fairness, the projected turnout for this election is expected to be the highest in thirty years. According to a recent government poll from the Schultarian election survey commission, an estimated 85 to 90% of the eligible voting population is expected to cast their ballots for this election.

Meanwhile, at the Grand Chambers of the National Assembly, four of the five potential candidates gathered to watch the election proceedings unfold in collective company. Central Director Schultz, currently in the Nation of Hamptonshire attending a secure NATO conference, joined the group via satellite uplink. When questioned about their election prospects, all flatly refused to make any projections.

"Only a small portion of the population has yet cast their ballot," Altunis said in a brief reply to Hifex reporters, "With 1.1 billion eligible voters, it's going to take time to count all of those ballots."

"It's completely up to the people to decide the direction of their government, and I'm proud to be involved in such a time honored Schultarian tradition," Elliot replied to his colleagues before the election coverage began, "I'm sorry that I can't be there in person, but rest assured once this conference has concluded I'll be there to shake the hands of the new Schultarian Directorate."

OOC: Schultaria Prime, I have a suggestion to make the election more realistic. Instead of assuming foreign endorsements to reflect the will of the Schultarian people, factor them into the bigger picture.

OOC: In this election I'm considering the people voting to act as citizens of Islandia Schultaria and Schultaria Prime, or that's at least my intention. The people of Schultaria Prime can vote for who ever they wish without consequence.

Besides, it beats bringing up the thread just by saying BUMP all the time too.

With nearly a fifth of all precincts reporting, it looks as though the race is now more hotly contested than before. With the majority of the ballots favoring incumbent Central Director Elliot Schultz and Challenger Sarnow Haarvekord, it appears that there are now separate races for the position of Central Director and the third Directorate position. Turnout is still projected to be at a 40 year high with an estimation of about 87.5% of all eligible voters reporting, but some districts have closed early due to a record series of 100% turnouts.

Unfortunately for Director Harlen Damien, it appears that the polls aren't helping him retain his bid for national office. With less than 4 percent of the vote, his current tally places his prospects firmly in last place with a gap of 3 to 1 between him and fourth place Porter Altunis of the Sooltar Indaata.

"It looks like this will be my last hurrah in politics," Damien said dejectedly while watching the most recent poll developments, "I always thought that I would have been the one to announce my own retirement, but I guess that I can take pride in the 40 years I've served my nation. While I know that this is only a fraction of the polls, the prospects are really looking grim for me."

Meanwhile, candidates Haarvekord and Schultz were seen conversing earlier this evening on a secure satellite link; when Hifex reporters attempted to ask the respected professors about their conversation, both of them described their conversation as "professionally related" without divulging any information.

As the election results are reaching the critical halfway point, it appears that a definite race for the position of Central Director has cropped up between Challenger Haarvekord and Incumbent Schultz. With a gap of less than 2.5% separating the two from the position as effective head of state in Schultaria Prime, this election is now being declared as one of the closest in the nation's history despite the fact that at least four hundred million votes have yet to be counted in the race. While the race continues to be extremely tense in the polls, the candidates have been remarkably calm about the electoral proceedings.

"I'm actually happy that the race is as close as it is," said Central Director Schultz with Sarnow Haarvekord next to his televised face, "It goes to show that people in Schultaria Prime are voting on what matters to them most. The people of Schultaria Prime can be proud of the fact that the three directors they decide to elect in this election will not only be of the highest political caliber, but will be open to new ideas. With an election as close as this, our political mandate isn't granted freely but will be earned through hard work."

In addition to the hard race to earn the position of Central Director, the competition between Incumbent Covey and Challenger Altunis has heated up in the last few precincts. With the gap between the two candidates reduced to nearly 6% between third and fourth place, it's still too early to declare which of the remaining three candidates will take the spot as the third Director of Schultaria Prime. Surprisingly enough, Altunis' bid for a directorate position has received substantially more support than anticipated through statistical polling; with well over 30 million votes, he has not only stunned the nation through his relative success in the polls but also the established political parties in Schultaria Prime. The Sooltar Indaata, only considered to have an active membership of less than 6 million in Schultaria Prime, has hailed this election as a great victory for corporate conservatives still residing in Schultaria Prime.
