What appears to be a spyplane of some sort has crashed in an open field around 350 miles from the capital of the Aztec National League.

The military investigators on the scene say that the aircraft was flying too high, too fast, too far off the normal air routes to be a standard jet liner.

The wreck was downed with a special surface-to-air missile that was installed just today. The air force said that it had been able to just barely see the object, and only now with the new SAM site were they able to bring it down.

According to the ANL's military, the object was flying at around Mach 1 and at above 75,000 feet. It has flown on a similar track three times before. A surface-to-air missile was fired from the ground. Though the aircraft took evasive action, there was a direct hit on the right engine assembly, igniting the fuel tanks. The fire extinguisher system was not tried, as it was likely blown away. The crew reportedly ejected. Two crewmembers have already been killed in a shootout and a third severely injured.

The aircraft then proceeded to descend to the ground in a massive fireball as a huge amount of fuel expoded at once. Parts have been scattered over several square miles. However, the ANL has found out four features which give out clues: the skin of the aircraft is radar-absorbent, or stealthy. Parts for swing wings have been found, as well. The aircraft had bomb bays, but instead of bombs extra fuel tanks and cameras were found. Finally, the wings bear the mark of the Aztec Lands Imperial Air Force.

The ALIAF refuses to comment on the aircraft.

Furthermore, the aircraft is simply not in the ALIAF arsenal at all- it does not exist. Experts agree that this is either some sort of secret aircraft.

The two nations, though they share a common cultural heritage, are not friends. The Aztec Lands severed all ties and banned trade and travel with the ANL after it adopted a communist constitution.

The ANL is expected to make a statement shortly.

Along side with Premier Quetzalcoatl is Dr. Darius Wellington, Foreign Affairs Minister and Chief Warrior-General Tlanextic, Minister of War. The young Premier stands in front of a podium and beings his response.

"Greetings ladies and gentlemen, my fellow Aztecs and people around the world.

Today, our security has been violated by The Holy Empire of Aztec Lands. An aircraft of the Aztec Lands air force was shot down by a new SAM system. Careful analysis by the Soviet Red Aircore and other ANL scientists has determined that it is almost impossible for this aircraft to be a regular military airplane. Its altitude, speed, design and equipment seem to suggest that this is a spy plane. A clear violation of our sovereignty, airspace and security, this clearly has alarmed myself and others in the ANL government.

While I believe any military action is not warranted in this situation, any further violations of our airspace, lands or water will be taken more seriously. Needless to say, after this incident, we are going to increase our patrols.

I find it sad how our two nations, having a common heritage, are at such odds. However, violations like this can not be ignored. We will remain alert, and we will not withdraw from our beliefs. Hopefully, this situation will be resolved."

In the Grand Union Chambers, the ANL Capitol building...

Premier Quetzalcoatl, Dr. Darius Wellington and Chief Warrior-General Tlanextic are in the Premier's office, discussing how they should respond to the incident. Clearly, war was a no, but, they needed to take a strong but "under the radar" response.

"Well, how do we go about this?" Asked the Premier.

"I have no clue. If we react to strong, we'll provoke a war. If we react to weak, we'll appear easy to push over." Said General Tlanexitc.

Silence...

Dr. Wellington said, "Clearly, we are not too popular with Aztec Lands government. I doubt anything short of abandoning our system would appease them. However, maybe we need to solve the problem with a different approach."

Tlanextic propped up. Dr. Wellington's comment gave him an idea. "Clearly, we want to avoid a war between our two nations, but we could still get back at them without having to declare war."

Dr. Wellington and Premier Quetzalcoatl both said "Explain."

The General got up and said "Through effective intelligence, we know their populace is fractured. The Zappotecas and Mayans are resisting AL's government. We could give support to these resistors and their government would be weakened."

They continued with this idea for several more hours. It was long and late into the night by the time they finished.

-Bunker III, Altar Mountains-

"Sir, the offensive against the invaders is going well...the troops have shaken off the anthrax attack and morale is high. Naval forces are closing in. The bombers will be carpet bombing the area to shake the enemy, then we will strike. There is no reason to believe that there will be any defeat..."

The High Field Marshal, supreme commanding general of all Coalition forces, was speaking to the Emperor and fellow generals, including generals of the other Coalition members including the Bormann Empire and Caldaron, when the Commanding Field Marshal of the Imperial Air Force got off the hotline and interrupted everyone.

"I've just recieved word that we've lost the SB-3 over the ANL. It's been shot down."

"What?!" shouted the Emperor. "It's completely gone?"

"It's all over the news in the ANL. Parts are already being salvaged, including stealth bits and the camera and ELINT recorders. Looks like they custom-made a new SAM system and put it right on the path of the aircraft- I don't think it was as stealthy as we thought it was."

"Damnit."

"The ANL just spoke- their leader gave some typically condemning speech, et cetera, blaming us for the divide between us..."

"Oh, it's our fault they turned their backs on their ancestors?"

"Well, they threaten military action if we try anything else. We've recieved the data from the bird, no problem, but we've lost the Condor II for sure."

"That plane doesn't even officially exist. Millions of Scales, trying to keep this thing secret, blown! What's the status on the pilots?"

"They managed to bail out."

"Make sure they don't squeal."

"The two pilots are dead- they fought rather than surrender. The navigator, offensive electronics, and defensive electronics officers are still missing. They ejected over a plains area, they could probably make it out."

"Maybe we should have just dropped a Toniatuh III on them instead of looking at them. Okay, let's see. Pilots MIA or KIA, plane crashed...they didn't recover much, did they?"

"They can't actually read the data we collected, it all went up in flames. They can probably still use the stealth material to their advantage, though. Possibly the backfire missile system."

"When I get the chance, I'll tell the press courtier to tell the media that it was our aircraft, not to give any details on it. He'll also affirm that we are the true Aztecs, and we shall declare that we don't have to apologize to anyone."

Four top military officers sat at a large table, discussing the current situation. Clearly, this was an emergency. However, the discussion was not on how to deal with the Imperial government, but rather, how to deal with the airplane wreakage and possible escaped crew members.

Chief Warrior-General Tlanextic first said "Alright...what's our status?"

The General of the Soviet Red Aircore said "Currently, we have assigned several OVH-28s and Mi-24s to patrol a 20 miles by 20 miles area around the crash site. In addition, several AZ-25s are now patrolling the area to look for possible missing crew members. With the recovery operation, we have been able to courten off the area and our scientists are currently taking debris and storing it in a facility outside of Tenochitilan. Our scientists have not been able to recover most of the data, as a large portion of it was destroyed, but we are looking into ways in making anti-stealth detection systems. In addition, we are activiating our missile defense system, along side with the Navy, in case of possible ICBM attack."

Pleased, Chief Warrior-General Tlanextic then turned to the head of the Red Gaurd.

"How are your efforts in this going?"

The General reponded quickly, "Right now, the Red Gaurd is providing security for the towns and the cities in close proximity to the crash site. Many barracks and garrisons are being filled so we may be able to respond quicker to a localzied incident. We are also putting several troops in the capital in the unlikely event any crewmembers could get into the capital."

Satisfied with the progress, Chief Warrior-General Tlanextic then turned to the last General, the General of the Jaguar Warrior Infantrymen. Tlanextic asked the General, "How are the search operations going?"

The JWI General quietly reponded, "Currently, we have 2 divisions doing ground patrols in conjuction with the Red Aircore. We have a large group working both by foot and by vehicle searching the area of possible intruders. They are under orders not to kill, but rather capture."

The navigator, Pilot Officer Xochtli, ran. He was near a large hill, surrounded what looked like the remains of a few houses. Plains surrounded the area. He could see the plume of smoke arising from the crash a few miles away.

There was a small den, probably where someone was living earlier. He squeezed in and checked his 10mm pistol- fully loaded and ready.

He scribbled some cursive heiroglyphs onto a small notepad, a suicide note.

"For my Emperor, I rather die than surrender."

He then shot himself in the face. The shot rang out, and two Red Guards patrolling the area heard it.

The defensive electronics operator punched some morphine into the offensive electronics operator. They were both relatively uncovered, near a stream, in a heavily forested area.

The offensive electronics operator, Flight Officer Tzonlli, was critically wounded. He'd broken both legs and the explosion knocked a shard of metal into his leg, and it bled badly, even with the torniquet applied.

"Is that it?" whispered Tzonilli.

"That's really all that applies here. I don't see anything else. I'll see if I can make radio contact, somehow."

Flight Sargeant Zopec walked to the edge of the forest, a hike of about five minutes. He toggled the radio on.

"This is the DSO. I have the OSO with me. He's hit bad. Copy?"

"This is ...WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP"

The radio was drowned out by the sound of an Mi-24 Hind. Zopec ran back to Tzonilli. He was surrounded by troops.

"STOP! YOU!" shouted the Jaguar Infantrymen. Zopec pulled out his pistol and began unloading on the Jaguar Infantrymen. It was useless, they had body armor. AK fire laced his chest.

Tzonilli lay still.

"Where are you hit?" asked one of the infantrymen.

Tzonilli didn't move a muscle. He was bleeding out of the mouth by now.

"Looks like a bad leg wound. We'll get you fixed up."

Tzonilli pulled the pin out of the frag grenade in the survival kit, and let go of the safety latch.

"SHIT! RUN!"

Zopec awoke, slowly.

"You survived." muttered a doctor.

He was in a hospital bed, a thousand IVs sticking out of his chest.

Damn.

In full dress uniform, the Press Courtier to the Emperor spoke to a room of inquisitive journalists.

"I have very little to say. We confirm that the aircraft was ours. We can give no details. We feel that we are the true Aztecs, not a communist facade. Additionally, we have a right to do whatever necessary to ensure our security, period. We report to no one. We are sovereign. Questions?"

The scene was played over and over inside Zopec's head.

The aircraft they were flying was an SB-3 Condor II, the cutting edge of bomber aircraft. It was capable of over Mach 1.8. It had range. It had capacity. It had Radar-Absorbing Material on the wings, which while it didn't render the aircraft invisible, it helped a lot- they had already flown three times over the ANL before, gathering info on their military.

Additionally, the Condor II did not officially exist. It was still classified.

Somehow, they had been able to see it, so they placed a special SAM right on its path.

"We'll be over some missile silos shortly. Shouldn't be too long before we swing back and head home." shouted the navigator. This slot was going to be removed once the protype was re-crafted into the final aircraft- automated sytems would do the work for them.

Instead of bombs, they carried fuel, cameras, and electronic intelligence gathering equipment.

They could have carried a nuclear weapon, straight into their capital, BOOM, no more ANL...

The DSO's warning panel lit up.

"Whoa! We're being targeted! It's straight ahead of us, low...it's on the ground!"

"Jam the hell out of it!" shouted the copilot.

"MISSILE LAUNCH!"

Zopec initialized the jamming systems in a vain attempt to lure the missile away from the aircraft. He dropped chaff to try to confuse it. It was to no avail. The missile sped towards the aircraft, sure as a marksman's bullet.

"I can't shake it!"

The pilots put the aircraft in a steep dive, closed up the swing wings, and hit the afterburners. Mach 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 all went by.

"Any luck?" shouted the pilot.

"Not yet!"

He frantically worked the jammers. The chaff dispenser cut strips and strips, but that missile simply refused to turn. Things happen like that, things that are completely impossible or absurd, and they happen anyway.

"BRACE!"

The missile slammed into the right underwing engine assemblies.

"RIGHT ENGINES HIT!" shouted out the copilot.

"FUEL TANKS ON FIRE...EXTINGUISHERS OFFLINE..."

"EJECT! EJECT!"

The crew ejected out of the doomed bomber. Just as he made it out, the bomber burst into flame.

A doctor checked over some charts and at a monitor screen. Although old, he moved quickly, writing things down and crunching numbers. As the doctor worked, a doorbell beeped.

"Son of bitch."

The old doctor walked over to the door, pushed a button and opened it. Two JWIs and a officer of the Red Gaurd walked in. The doctor, obviously perturbed, said "You know, Major, this is unneccisary."

The officer, a woman, dressed in a Soviet-style dress uniform, said quietly, "You do your job and the JWIs and myself will do ours."

The JWIs stepped to the sides of the doors carrying their standard AK-103s. Meanwhile, the officer walked up to the hospital bed and said to Zopec:

"My name is Xochiyotl, I am a Major in the ANL Red Gaurd. I have some questions,

A credible information source has said the ANL military has detained one of the crew members of the downed AL spy plane. He is currently being treated for wounds and soon after will be questioned. However, the source says the detainee is being treated well and within the boundries of the Geneva Convention.

Four other crew members were also found by JWIs 350 miles outside Tenochitilan. The JWIs reportedly told them to stop, but the AL crew fired upon the JWIs. All four of the resisting crewmembers were killed, one commited suicide in an abandoned adobe, one was killed after shooting at a JWI and one serriously injured crew member killed himself because he used a frag grenade in an attempt to kill the troops surronding him. Three Red Guardsmen and two JWIs were serriously injured by the grenade.

After treatment and questioning, the ANL government will most likely returned the crewman to AL. However, in the meanwhile, he is considered to be a "hostile foriegn operative", not prisioner of war, since tensions have not escalated to war.

Thankfully, their language was common. However, the similarities ended there. Zopec racked his brain...he figured out what to tell the officer questioning him.

"Flight Sergeant Zopec Acatl-Cipactli. Date of Birth 10/13/1977, Gregorian Calendar. 4th Squadron, 10th Rapid Strategic Bomber Wing. Aztec Lands Imperial Air Force. Military ID 153-09-2515."

The officer took off her cap and set it down on a table. She then said serriously,

"You do realize a foriegn nation flying an unauthorized military plane, a spy plane no less, is a serrious violation of our airspace and soveriegnity, right? Clearly, your military and government want to know something. Tell me, what were you looking at?"

We are very concerned at the current situation developing between your great nation and the nation of Aztec Lands. If conflict does begin, we will support you any way we can. We have 7 De Zeven Provincien Class Air Defense and Command Frigate's leaving Port Arthur in route to help deter(sp?) any possible enimes. We have thousands of Red Army regulars on stand by ready to deploy if the time comes. We have also recieved permission to use the railroad system in Modern Texas to transport military goods and personel. Just say the word comrade, and we will stand and fight side by side with your nation.

It seems there is a bit of a situation arising for you. As you know, this is a cause of alarm for us due to not only the proximity of the ANL and the HEAL but also due to the fact that I, as does the people of the USSNSR, consider the people of the Aztec National League allies and comrades. With that said if asked the USSNSR is willing to provide support in the form of anything from supplies to man power. We can also move in a carrier taskforce or two if it is deemed required by the ANL. Of course, with action tension arising we too shall be preparing incase something should happen.

How you can help us now is by working in conjunction with the ANL military and intellegence agencies. Communist Lousisana, I ask that you send your frigate task force to Veracruz navy Base to discuss plans with our Chief Admiral and to join up with one of our cruiser task forces. NSR, if it would not be much trouble, please send one of your carrier groups to meet up in Veracruz as well. Currently, we will not need any assistance in our Western Coast, so your fleets will be helping out in the Gulf only. Again, I thank you for your assistance.

Due to the rising tension, we are also initiating a resupplying and refueling of naval forces at sea and prepping those in port. Air patrols are also being stepped up. "You do realize a foriegn nation flying an unauthorized military plane, a spy plane no less, is a serrious violation of our airspace and soveriegnity, right? Clearly, your military and government want to know something. Tell me, what were you looking at?"

"We shouldn't have been spying."

The Major continued on, but not as serriously, "Agreed. However, what were you spying on, since you have admited to it? We know either the same aircraft or a similar aircraft has been in the area before. What were you looking at?"

The Major sat down next to Zopec and waited for his response.

"Shiit. We have stirred up the hornet's nest."

The Emperor leaned on a table in front of several monitors. It was the same bunker as before. The diplomatic lines were buzzing- all sorts of communist allies of ANL asking about the crash. Electronic intelligence aircraft that were leaving the area in panic were reporting mass movements of naval units to surround the country, not to blockade, but to protect.

"Now we need recon more than ever- do we have any assets in the area at all? We're at war with communists already and we can't afford more invasions- we'll end up recruiting more allies that are against communists and it'll all turn into a bloodbath stalemate." asked the Emperor.

"Two ERB-52s are leaving the area and travelling at extremely low level. They're electronic recon birds. The tanker aircraft left a while ago. We strongly advise that you don't have them turn back towards the ANL." said an air marshal.

"Agreed- though we need something there. Do we have any naval assets?"

"Everything's dealing with the current invasion." replied a sea marshal.

The Press Courtier to the Emperor speaks in a business suit, white shirt, blue tie, to a press room.

"Good evening. At approximately 7:53 PM local time, an aircraft of our air forces that was conducting recon missions over the ANL was hit by something, possibly a SAM missile, though we doubt that. The aircraft remains and will remain classified. We cannot disclose any information on what exactly it was doing there other than reconaissance.

I don't believe, and the Emperor feels the same way, that we are somehow wrong in this matter. We are taking a proactive stance in our defense. They are our rivals. We as the government have a responsibility to protect our people from this mock Aztec country- they are our rival.

We aren't sorry for this at all. Given the chance, we would do it again, if necessary. I can give no further details at all regarding anything else and will not answer any questions. Good evening."

He walks out.

The Major continued on, but not as serriously, "Agreed. However, what were you spying on, since you have admited to it? We know either the same aircraft or a similar aircraft has been in the area before. What were you looking at?"

The Major sat down next to Zopec and waited for his response.
"I don't know. I merely coordinated defenses."

The Major nodded, and continued, "Alright, then how many times has your crew and plane been deployed to that area? We know there was more then this one incdent."

...I'll make it seem as if there is one aircraft.

"Three times."

Resolving to herself that she would get more from extrapolating from what the ANL knew, she got up and said "Alright. Before I leave, do you have any questions or no?

We are planning to send General Gaspard as well as Admiral Dufour to ANL. We have about six thousand Red Army troops and two hundred and fifty M-7A1 Jackson Main Battle Tank's who are currently in route to Beaumont, TX. We would like to send them to ANL.

We are deeply concerned in the current situation happening between your mock nation and that of the great Aztec National League. We warn you that if you pull one of these very illegal acts of spying in CL or any of its allies ever again, we will pursue hostile actions against your nation.

Even if their are coupple of anti-communist nations, I think more nations would support our allie of ANL just because of the situation you put yourself in. Associated Press: USSNSR Armed Forces mobilizing forces for possible conflict

Havanna, Cuba, USSNSR(AP) -- Announcements have been made and it would seem that Neo-Soviet Russian forces are prepping for combat. Not miles away, in port are ships of the Neo-Soviet Russian Red Navy. Noises of machinery, of cranes, of trucks, of men can be heard even as late as I'm writing this. Reports have also leaked that resupply of other task forces as well as the prepping of vessels along the stretch of land and sea that is the USSNSR are going about. Reports as well as visual accounts note that the First Fleet of the Red Navy has departed to a location as of now publicly unknown. Where will these vessels be heading? That is not one hundered percent certain though it would seem these vessels and men won't be traveling far as some predict the rising tension between the Aztec National League and the Holy Empire of Aztec Lands after an incident involving a HEAL spycraft is the cause for the possible mobilization.

Apon questioning by a number of news organizations, the Neo-Soviet Russian government has only let it be known that 'rising tensions within the region involving a close ally have lead the nation to call up forces for defense of the nation. We are hoping though that war can be adverted and the lives of our men and women can remain intact.'

The trains are on route comrade. We do hope this situation dose fizzle and die without conflict breaking out, but in the case the situation does exculate(sp?) we will be more than honored to fight along side of our great comrades of ANL.

General Gaspard is CL's commanding officer of all Red Army forces and Admiral Dufour is commanding officer of the entire Red Fleet. He is also my brother and I know he will do a great job.

We have multiple long range bombers who are in the air a majority of the time just incase our commands go to bomb a location and if need be, these 17 bombers are open for your nations use.
