(OOC:) A change of pace: What I LOVE about I.I.

To change things a bit from the occasional negativity surrounding RP in International Incidents, I'd like to put a list together of things I LOVE about RP here.

1. Creativity I think it's a lot of fun to create new ships, jets, tanks, etc. and figure out which features you want to emphasize or not. It's a challenge to come up with something that could be feasible in the real world if you're a modern tech country or even a post-modern nation and then have those designs accepted by the NS community at large.

2. Story writing The best RPers in NationStates write well. That's no secret. The best RPers are able to create a believable storyline that includes characters that are well-developed and countries whose ideologies are known. RP in NationStates is a lot like writing a short story or a book for the best RPers. They're trying to create a story that people who follow along can easily refer to when they're reading a later thread. Thanks to the RPing here at NationStates, I'm now starting to think about writing a book.

3. Friendships This is the corny part of this post, so if you don't like cheese, hold your nose. [j/k] One of my favorite aspects of NationStates is the number of people whom I've "met" through NS that have become friends, both IC and OOC. I can think of several NSers who are friends both IC and OOC and one in particular is a person who has my back consistently if I'm attacked either IC or OOC. In another case, our countries are currently at each other's throats, but we get along great OOC.

4. Strategy I'll be honest. As much as my character/characters hate war and would rather not fight unless we have to, there's something to be said about war RPs. Planning and implementing strategies and seeing them work or seeing them lead to disaster is one of the most fascinating aspects of NS if it's done right. Of course, if it gets personal, it's likely to turn into a flamewar and an ignore fest, but as long as it's not personal, it can be some of the most fun you can have here.

Story Writing is more a feature in NationStates, not International Incidents. Go look at many of the threads there, especially those involving Melkor Unchained and The Most Gloriable Hack

Sorry TIOR...I dont know, quite how to put this...everyone hates you! You are a worthless lump that everyone wants GONE! Sorry, I shouldn't of sugar-coated it for you. :D

One thing...I read this thread, but where are the negative points...I don't come on NS to see possitive, happy things ye know!

Really, good thread and I agree with you on the story part, numbers are no match for well written stories.

Well Sarzonia, as many others have said, I must agree with you. It really is amazing how most of us have never met in RL, but only through the forums and IMs and TGs and yet we've developed such a huge and close knit community. The wonders of the internet...

Yes, I too, the most glorious Crossman love modesty. The Crossman's modesty is truly his greatest trait! I love being the Crossman!

You sound like Kruppe out of The Mazalan Book of the Fallen Series :P

Yeah, I agree about the friendships part you definately forge some good friendships, and to be frank you usually end up fight your friends because it makes for a more harmonious RP.

Yeah. I agree with number 1 too. What makes that better is, when people even bother reading your posts. That's always good fun. Oh, number 2 is also good, but people who are good writers are generally people who've been here longer. And they tend to ignore/feel superior to people who have a post count less than 3,000,000,000,000. Same for number 3.
And number 4 would be good, only, this nation's future tech. I've read through some of the war threads by future tech players... and they're a little drab. More like a technology contest than a war. I would say it's lucky I have modern tech nations as well, only, a lot of (not all, please read before you snap) MT wars have too many lists of numbers and statistics to be interesting to read... why can't people just say 'tank', instead of 'M37271 Main Battle Tank with 152mm smooth bore cannon and 100mm of depleted uranium armour...'? I thought these were stories, rather than actual wars where these sorts of details might matter  .
