To change things a bit from the occasional negativity surrounding RP in International Incidents, I'd like to put a list together of things I LOVE about RP here.
1. Creativity I think it's a lot of fun to create new ships, jets, tanks, etc. and figure out which features you want to emphasize or not. It's a challenge to come up with something that could be feasible in the real world if you're a modern tech country or even a post-modern nation and then have those designs accepted by the NS community at large.
2. Story writing The best RPers in NationStates write well. That's no secret. The best RPers are able to create a believable storyline that includes characters that are well-developed and countries whose ideologies are known. RP in NationStates is a lot like writing a short story or a book for the best RPers. They're trying to create a story that people who follow along can easily refer to when they're reading a later thread. Thanks to the RPing here at NationStates, I'm now starting to think about writing a book.
3. Friendships This is the corny part of this post, so if you don't like cheese, hold your nose. [j/k] One of my favorite aspects of NationStates is the number of people whom I've "met" through NS that have become friends, both IC and OOC. I can think of several NSers who are friends both IC and OOC and one in particular is a person who has my back consistently if I'm attacked either IC or OOC. In another case, our countries are currently at each other's throats, but we get along great OOC.
4. Strategy I'll be honest. As much as my character/characters hate war and would rather not fight unless we have to, there's something to be said about war RPs. Planning and implementing strategies and seeing them work or seeing them lead to disaster is one of the most fascinating aspects of NS if it's done right. Of course, if it gets personal, it's likely to turn into a flamewar and an ignore fest, but as long as it's not personal, it can be some of the most fun you can have here.
