Dr. Colin Arctor Stared blankly at the petri dish. "Uh..Steve, I need you to, uh, come and look at this..."
Dr. Stephen Hemmerich Came "What is it?"
"This bacterium, it seems to be producing an alcohol of some sort..."
"Hmmm. Are you sure it wasn't contaminated?"
"I'd bet my PhD on it."
"Hmm. They were exposed only to solar radiation, right?"
"That plus air."
"Hmm. I'll run some tests on it."

A few weeks had passed. Arctor sat on his bed, nursing a migrane. The phone rang. It was Hemmerich "Colin? You won't believe this. We should call Mike the patent attorney."
"Dammit Steve, I have a very bad headache now, this had better be important!"
"Colin. The bacteria produced the alcohol: 2,3,4 Trimethylpentathol. Practically the same stuff your car uses."
Arctor was quiet for a long time. "Shit. The real question is is do we tell those pigs at corporate?"

"Gentlemen, these forms you filled out now put this bacterium on sale in the international market. This could be a profitable enterprise, but you two ought to keep silent about it. Keep your money offshore." The two doctors signed the papers. The two men returned to their offices and posted the sale

We'll take 4000 cultures. We also want to know how often and under what conditions that the bacteria reproduces.

Report of Octanalix
Octanolix is an interesting photoautotrophic bacteria. It seems to have a rather voracious appetite for carbon dioxide and water. It also functions best when exposed to constant heat. If exposed to solar radiation, and temperature is about 30°C it will multiply at an exponential rate. Not very much is known about the metabolism process. It is believed to have some resemblence to the ETS (Electron Transport System). My Partner, Dr. Hemmerich is continuing my work, and will be running our newly formed business, due to my steadily declining health. The many facets of this emerald have yet to be recognized.

What is the lifespan of each culture?
This bacteria is very erratic. We believe it can last anywhere from 4 months to a year, but it seems to have not trouble reproducing itself.

Attn: All potential buyers/investors
We have discovered a flaw in the bacteria. We have a preprogrammed virus that will only affect the bacteria and willl rectify the fault. It will increase potential lifespan by 2-4 months, and will increase yield by around 20 barrels. The only drawback is it will inhibit reproduction by 45%. We thank you for your continuing support.

Prices
Corrective virus:
$5,000 per unit
(1 unit can corrrect 20 cultures)
Corrected culture:
$4,500

We at the ViZionarian Scientific Headquarters are rather concerned about this bacterium, and how safe it is. We would like to request sending some of our scientists to your nation to run some tests on them.

Thank you.

We would like to know what tests you care to run. If it helps we will send you a culture of the most recent bacterium, absolutely free.
We will be running multiple kinds of tests, including but not limited to, accelerating growth to test long-term usage and stability, and what happens when it is exposed to various contaminations.

There will by 50 tests of each type. There will be around 300 different types of tests taken.

Would you be willing to send us enough cultures to do those tests, or allow us to come to your nation to run these tests?
New Exodus
06-11-2004, 06:55
The colonies of New Exodus would like to purchase 40 cultures of the bacteria, as well as two units of corrective virus. This small order will be to test the compatibility of the substance with our vehicles and generators, and if all goes well, we will be purchasing much more.

~Wiring 190,000 USD~

Also, we recommend that Dr. Arctor consult with medical professionals to determine if the health problems might be related to the bacteria. We will be handling our purchase under biohazard security, and would be willing to send some of our best biohazard medics to Dr. Arctor free of charge. In either case, we hope your health improves, Doctor Arctor.

Dr. Arctor lay in the hospital bed. A doctor stood over him, talking to his daughter. "Ms. Arctor, your father has a profound tumor that has progressed into his Medulla obligata. Now to the dissapointment of every tabloid and to the relief of his investors, it appears to have been caused by your father's lifestyle. As you know, he did drink heavily and went through cigars faster than most people with cigarretes. He also had signs of not getting enough excercise. I'm sorry to load this on you, but we have a fear that the radiation treatment won't do enough. All we can do is hope."
"Thank you, doctor" Ms Arctor replied

We shall not receive any of the corrective virus. The production and lifespan of the bacteria compared to the current figues is un-economical.

Dr. Hemmerich got off the phone. He sat at his desk massaging his temples. First an army of paparrazis crawling out of the woodwork, and now this. It was earlier today he caught a disheveled reporter dressed as a scientist about to drink toluene, which would have been a funny sight, but liability was too high. His face and the vegetable that was once his partner had been all over every tabloid. A photo of his face was worth solid gold now. He dialed the phone "Lock&Barrel security company."
"Its Hemmerich"
"Dr. Hemmerich! How is the armored car service working for you?"
"Great. Fine. Really. Listen, tell your boys to expect a lot more overtime. I am going to need you to double the staff levels at the labs. Also, I have a few guests coming to visit the labs. I need a limo and a driver, plus some more security for my house and at the Flora Bella Hotel, where I'm keeping my guests. Dont let anyone bother them, or take any photos."
"Alrighty Mr. Hemmerich. You can trust us."
A sudden flash erupted in his face
"Shit!" At the window was a man with a large telescopic lense camera. He ran laughing as Dr. Hemmerich scrambled after him. Hemmerich was outside , but he stopped at the roar of an engine, and in a couple of seconds all that was left was a set of tire tracks in his lawn. Hemmerich swore profusely.

The flight was a long one. Hours inside a small plane was not considered a fun thing to these scientists, especially when they had better things to do.

Finally, though, the flight was over. The plane landed in Siap, as the sunset cast a redish-orange glow over the landscape.

"It is quite beautiful here." said Cameron Brickstone.

Two sedans with tinted windows approached the aircraft, along with a black limo. Rent-a-cops came out of the sedans, and Dr. Hemmerich, a middle-aged man worn with sleep lines came out of the limo in his lab coat. "I hope your flight was well. I have made arrangements for you to stay at La Bella Flora-The finest hotel in the country. The Limo will take us there now. I am sorry anbout the security, but ever since Arctor's declining health, I have become fodder for the tabloids, and they haven't given me a moment's rest. I have made arrangements to prevent them from doing the same to you. Hopefully you can clear up the myths that have been circulating..."
