Somewhere in Mole Space

The research platform was complete. The scientists were stationed on the platform, along with their research equipment. Their task? To create a new fighter for the Mole navy.
The Mega fighter, which had served it's nation well for many years, was showing it's age. It was too weak and slow. A replacement was needed.
It was agreed, that the design of the fighter was perfect. It was just too weak to compete with it's enemies.
A bigger fighter was needed, a faster one, with more powerful lasers.

Operation, HYPER FIGHTER had begun!

OOC: You can do what you like in response, although i'd rather this didn't become a random space battle.

The scientists begun their research. A design had already been established back in Moleland. First step, Simulation.

'The Hyper Fighter is 1.5 times bigger than the Mega fighter. It is therefore 1.5 times heavier. We must check if it can take off in gravity, and survive the stress of hyperspace.' Said the cheif scientist to his team.

They set about straight away and developing a simulation of the hyper fighter. After a few Hours, a prototype was made on the computer system. Armed with 2 turbo laser cannons, armoured with 2 inches of PM armour, 75 MW sheilds and armed with 24 proton torpedoes, the Hyper fighter was ready for preliminary testing on the computer.

The scientists waited, unsure if the Fighter could take off. It passed with flying colours. Would it survive in Hyperspace? The computer simulation revealed that it could.

The scientists cheered. However, the cheif turned round and yelled, ' Silence! We still have much to do. This was only the simulation! It will take us 5 days to build 3 prototypes of the Hyper Fighter for testing. GET to it!'

The Emperor is somwhat impressed by your decision to improve your fighters, We hope the advancement will be cost effective and powerful. We would comment further, but we have a crisis on the Planet Arcadia at the moment.

OOC: Okay!. I'll skip a few days in a minute...

We would like to share the research as far as innovations and ideas go. We have two distinct types of fighter, each with different strengths and weaknesses and roles. Both are due a redesign. The light fghter is a possible ground attack unit/planetary airforce unit, while the heavy fighter is incapable of flight and less effective against bombers and smaller capital ships, but is good at eliminating larger targets and other fighters.

As such the hyper fighter frame, computing and core systems would need to be very simular but the rest would vary.

We can help with weapon systems as defensive point turrets, other multi purpose turrets and an all out attack weapon, which could be at the descretion of the owner. So we could help with power grid and other systems.

We would also share in developement with ther missile delvery and storage system and technology.Both external and internal should be options (we would use both, but which you uise is at your discretion)

We realise that this isnt anything like the full design, but we have alarge amount of funds tied up in other projects and wish to maintain them.

This would be more a sort of cost saver than an outright joint project. We would co operate with weapons and processing as well as co ordination of weapons and software options for these basically. The details you dont yet seem to have spent as much time on.

5 days had passed. The three prototypes were ready for tests. The Best pilot in the Mole Space corps was ready to do the first flight. The infamous 'Gate tests'

The 10 corvettes had finished towing the gates in place. The sensors were ready. 2 MDC's and 5 frigates observed, and some Ornage State ships were onserving the experiment.

The test began, The pilot had to pilot the Hyper fighter through the gates. As the experiment went on, the hyper fighter went faster, and mines were put in to fire at the fighter, in an attempt to destract him. Leval 1, the easest level had just started!

'Orange state. You are welcome to observe the experiments. If we have any problems in our design, we shall request your scientists assistance. Thank you'

The following transmission was sent shortly afterwards.

"Orange state has sent one vessel onto the edge of your space, it is a single frigate without escorts. On board are 35 scientists and 5 pilots. They have access to $20bn per year of funding and several advanced software and weapons engineering tools at their disposal.

You may collect them and take them to wherever your people are located. We ask that you check them for transmitter through a full body scan or whatever non harmful methods you can employ simularly with our equipment. We trsust them as much as we can but you can never be certain. If they are found to be carrying transmitters of sufficient power to reach our nation, please hand them to our friagte staff, where they will be summarily executed.

IC'Thankyou orange state. They can be left aboard your firgate and just observe'

Meanwhile...

The gate test had begun. Levels 1 na d2 were no problem for the ace pilot. The hyper fighter was excellant.

'This baby is excellant. The controls are so light, the space in the cockpit is excellant. You boffs back there did a good job!'
'Thanks commander. Now comes those mines. Becareful now!'

The Hyper fighter moved onto level 3. It was easily piloted through the gates. The sensors picked up the first mine. The targeting computer homed in on it. A lock! Lasers were fired and... completely missed!

'What the! These sensors are terrible! are they set up right?'
'No commander, sorry. We are correncting them now. Now try!'

The Hyper fighter had passed through 12 more gates. Sheilds at 80%. He targetted the next mine. Fired and.. issed again. The mine returned fire... and hit the fighter. Sheilds reduced to 75%

'You sure those sensors are right!.
'Yes Commander... Maybe the turbo lasers don't like being linked up to the sensors. There shouldn't be a problem...'
'We'll have to sort it out when I get back. I'm on level four now...'

Level four. The pilot had reached the satisfactory level with little fuss...

The pilot did his best going through level 4. The gates were clsoer together, he was moving faster, and there were more mines! He got through the level, sheilds at a low 20%.

'Alpha 1, abort, you can't continue with your sensors in such a poor state. Return to the platform. we nee dto find out what is wrong.'
'Ok' Replyed the pilot, the disappointment clear in his voice.

OOC: Orange state, you can offer your help here if you like...

At this point the scientists had been watching the data flow throughout the systems and writing notes down on various document files. The pilots had been watching and had already began assembling their opinions.

Orange state has an Idea, that the ship be fitted with improved sensors, obviously. But more importnatly the code for the guns be improved drastically. Streamlining it and giving it what amounts to a non sentient AI would improve performance drastically.

All weapons bar the main systems should be givne the option to be set to defence, fighter attacking or control of the pilot for attack runs.

We also suggest keeping much of the existing technology and reshaping it a bit.

We would suggest a rear weapons system on a four winged craft, with turrets on each wingtip. these would mount small lasers, capable of penetrating the armour of another fighter, and destroying sheilds over time, but primarily capable of destroying ordnace in one hit.

These could be set to defend or attack automaticaly. Meanwhile the turrets not mounted on the rear could be used by the pilot simealteanously to add a lot of firepower to a possble hull mounted system and hull or wing mounted ordnance. Thsi system would allow engaging of multiple targets and would make it impossible to avoid all the vessel's firepower (though lining up with the rear turret perfectly would mean that the main weapon and wong tip turrsts would be unable to hit you.)

Such a design would be useful for land or space combat and would negate our need for two types in my force. Re armamanet to suit the useage would be possible as we belive we could make the design modular.

The pilots beleive that by adding thrust untis to the wing tips in addition to original vectoring manoeverability would be increase massively.

We may be able to improve power systems too, though we will need a look. Ornage state fighter reactors have had little more than a 22MW output in the past, so our ower systems have become very efficient. THe new Icefire drives may help too.

The mole sceintists read the report. Some of the ideas were create, others would not fit into the design and were rejected. they set about resetting command codes for the laser system. It would eb a long 'night'

OOC: clarify please. I think the orange state design will be a modified hyper fighter with these features added.

Our sensor tech isnt amazing Im afraid, in terms of range, however it does have a high resolution. Oh and its picks up cloaked vessels, as we aquired a few cloaking devices and noticed they gave off different energy emmisions. Of course any nation with cloaking would know this, so we dont bother with cloaking. But we can detect cloaked vessels, though they arent spotted at the same resolution.Our weapons now track cloaked vessels without needed the ship to guide them (which happened originally)

Basically, we have used your sensor suggestions, but that is it...

OOC: okay, our new design will be launched parallel to yours. I assume from now that any further developements will be made with OS scientists merely suggesting refinements to your ideas.

We can both design vessels and plow technology and small ideas back into our individual prjects and both benefit.

Orange state scientists have designed a coffee cup holder that doesnt break.... Though sadly it is still in ealry testing.:D

IC: 'Okay, that should do it. Let's lauch prototype 2 now on a target mission. You know the drill. Clear that mine field, and then inspect the containers. Then destroy all those that aren't any use to us.'

Hyper fighter Prototype 2 was lauched. Just then, An Ship left hyperspace...

'This MDC Explorer. Permission to watch the experiments.'
'What are YOU doing here?'
'Sorry, we got into a spot of bother...'
'Sure, you can watch. It'll do some good to beef up security...'

The Hyper fight began it's attack run. Despite taking a few hits from the mines, they soon destroyed, with only a drop in sheilds of about 55%.
'Nice job commander, now inspect those containers!'
'Sure thing! You done a good job. Aiming this thing is effortless!'
'Thanks. we were up all night fixing that'

Now, the large sensor was aimed at each container in turn. These containing useful stuff were left, those with useless material destoryed.

'How was that?'
'Nice job Commander. Return to base, so we can look at the results of this test!'
'Confirmed!'

The results were in. The Hyper fighter project was nearering completion. Just the drone targets were up next. The Final hyper fighter, Prototype 3 was lauched. The attack comenced. The drone starfighters were no match for the hyper fighter!

'Excellant job Sir. Ok. Now the Hyper fighter project can now be built throughout the galaxy. Once the old mega fighter factories have been converted, millions will soon be in service. For now, MDC Explorer Can have the prototypes. They are fully equipped for combat.'
'Thanks. Can we have an escort.'
'Sure. Have 3 frigates, and 2 interdictors.'
