Ground systems in the AC Army.

African Commonwealth
02-11-2004, 14:27
By political demand, the African Commonwealth Army(Hereafter ACA) has been forced to de-classify it's ground systems, and a host of systems are now released to be public knowledge. While this decision has drawn some fire(no pun intended) from ACA military commanders, it is none the less considered prudent.

Support Vehicles

Tracked or wheeled, a host of support vehicles support the ACA, ACAF and ACN in peace as well as war.

ADI-A5 Utility Truck

The standard truck in the ACA's service, the ADI-A5 is a little modified Deuce and a half 4-wheel cargo vehicle, carrying troops and supplies all over the Commonwealth and the theatres in which the ACA is deployed.

Crew: One
Passengers: Up to 32
Armament: Optionally, one ADI-20 7.62 MG
Armour: Normally none.
Engine: ACM V12 Diesel
Top Speed: 100km/h
Other Accessories: Camouflage cover, Rollcage, Winch.

ADI-A120 Heavy Equipment Transporter System

Used primarily for escorting heavy tracked vehicles like tanks to and from the battlefield, the ADI-A120 remains one of the heaviest workhorse vehicles in African Commonwealth, and indeed all of Africa.

Crew: 6
Payload: 2 axles, 55,000lbs each.
Engine: Schmidt Diesel, 8V 92TA
Armament: None.
Top Speed: 72 km/h unloaded.
Other Accessories: semi-axles convertable into crew sleeping bunks, dual coolant system, seatbelt and the works.

XL1010 Universal Carrier Vehicle

Inspired loosely by the U.S. armys XM1108 Universal Carrier, the XL1010 is a flexible support track with great carrying capacity and decent survivability in combat environments, with armoured hull, windows and a .50 MG on top. Besides carrying all conceivable forms of cargo, it also supports the mounting of several weapons systems if an operation demands the additional backup, there is support for latching the following systems onto the carrier: ADI-A88 MLRS, Chapparal SAM, "Avenger" Stinger SAM and a multiple "Talon" ATGM launch platform. Sharing most of the ADI-A60 Rhinos chassis, parts for repair, replacement and customisation can readily be found in a brigades APCs.

Crew: 3 or 4
Armament: .50 ADI-25 MG
Payload: 15,700 lbs
Engine: Schmidt Diesel 6V
Top Speed: 66 km/h
Other Accessories: Universal support platform, 2 fire extinguishers.

Tracked Combat Vehicles

ADI-A60 "Rhino" APC.

The ADI-A60 "Rhino" APC is based on a modified U.S. M113 APC chassis. With mobility comparable to the M113, but with slightly larger crew compartment and heavier armour, the Rhino is a force to contend with in infantry combat situations. However, it suffers from much the same problems as the M113, becoming a veritable deathtrap in heavy obstacled territory with its limited pivot speed and poor visibility for soldiers inside. Still, it remains the APC of choice for the ACA until significant numbers of the "Okapi" IAV can be produced, and some 7-800 systems are currently in use. Several variants are kept in reserve for a variety of battlefield objectives, including medical evacuation, breaching vehicle and one or two NBC recon models.

Personnel Capacity: 2 crewmen + 12 soldiers.
Engine: Schmidt motors Diesel 6V53T
Speed on land: 66 km/h
Speed in water, with track: 5.8 km/h
Armament: ADI-25 .50 cal MG
Basic hull: 5083 Aluminum
Bolt-on armour: Titanium armour
Mine armour: Steel armour
Gun shield kit: Steel armour
Accessories: 2 fire extinguishers, automatic transmission, detachable rubber pad tracks for amphibious capability, 2 Spare track wheels - Other things depending on modification.

ADI-A72 Self-Propelled Anti-Air Gun/Surface-to-Air Missile Track.

The ADI-A72 is a new anti-air tracked platform based on the 2S6M Tunguska anti-air platform. While CAF still uses the Tunguska in very limited numbers, plants are churning out these new models in steadily increasing numbers. Still using the combination of SA-19 SAMs and quadruple AA cannons, there is no "Dead Zone" in which aircraft may by-pass this deadly anti-air artillery. Extensive modifications have been made, fitting the craft with heavier 32mm AA guns, a heavier engine and new target acquisition software that allows for limited fire-on-move capability for the SA-19, allowing the platform to engage aircraft that stay out of firing range. Primarily for protecting armour and infantry against low-altitude fighter attacks.

Crew: 4
Weight: 34,7 metric tonnes.
Engine: Schmidt motors V-13e Turbo Diesel
Top Speed: Road: 65 km/h, Not amphibious.
Armament: 32 mm AA gun, SA-19 SAM (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/sa-19.htm)
Accessories: Nuclear/Biological/Chemical protection suite, Warhammer AMCM, mobile missile tracking software.

ADI-A88 MLRS Self-Propelled Loader/Launcher

Similar in design to the US M270 MLRS, the ADI-A88 provides preliminary artillery and long-range infantry support capability to the ACA mechanized forces. Using the ADI-R32 guided multiple launch system, it can fire up to 12 rockets before having to resupply or scoot.

Crew: 3
Top Speed: 64km/h
Ármament: One ADI-R32 guided multiple lancher holding 12 rockets of 644 ADI-R50 shaped charges each
Accessories: N/B/C protection suite, On Board Fire Control and Position Determining System.

ADI-M1A3 modified M1A2 main battle tank

Integrating technology gained from joint weapon developments with Kotterdam and Neo-Anarchos among others, the small M1A3 brigade in the Commonwealth Armed Forces represent the crux of African tank technology, courtesy of ADI and Schmidt motors(ground systems divsion)! Using the Abrams M1A2 chassis, a number of upgrades have been fitted to the tank, including the Warhammer Anti-guided-anti-tank missile system and remote controlled 7x62 MG; both increasing the M1A3s survivability in heavy combat environments. Sacrificing some of the Abrams' already formidable speed to carry heavier Chobham armour plating and a 125mm smoothbore cannon, the M1A3 is one of the heaviest tanks in the ACA armoury.

Crew: 4
Top speed: 61 km/h
Armament: 125mm smoothbore cannon, .50 MG on coaxial skate mount, remote-controlled 7x62mm MG on 260° ball pivot mount.
Accessories: NBC protection suite, Warhammer AMCM, optional mount for carrying 1 or 2 "Talon" ATGM.

Wheeled Combat Vehicles

High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, "Humvee".

The ever-popular U.S. all-purpose light tactical vehicle, the HMMWV, is used in all areas of the Commonwealth Armed Forces, not only for support but also serving as special purpose weapons platforms throughout all areas of the modern battlefield. Among the variants currently in use are: M707 "Striker" Command and Control/Recon Vehicle; M997A1 Armoured Ambulance; M1097 Heavy Armoured AVENGER SAM Vehicle; XM1114 Up-Armoured Armament/Troop Carrier, and the M1121 ATGM Carrier(modified for the ADI "Talon" ATGM). All in all, approx. 1000 HMMWVs are in service in all branches of the CAF.

Crew: 2 to 4 crewmen, variable personnel transport capacity.
Engine: Diesel 8-cylinder, 6.5 L
Top Speed: 88.5 km/h
Armament: As a rule, .50 cal U.S. MG, along with variant-specific tactical weaponry.
Accessories: Gunner-shield, Heavy duty air conditioning, fire extinguisher and run-flat tires.

OOC: Much, much more to come. For those in military conflict with me, or the curious.

The Imperial Defence Bureau are carefully digesting this information, much of it confirming what they already knew. Still, it proves that the Intelligence Budget is money well spent...

OOC: Nice to see I'm not the only one utilising Deuce-and-a-half Trucks! :D

Just a neighbourly tag, really.
Of course, Lusaka is still clinging to its ZIL-131 trucks and UAZs.
