Malkyer

As she stood inside, waiting for Duke Perides to finish his speech, Angela thought of her father's funeral.
The rain fit everyone's mood on this somber day. Layman Saarad would be laid to rest in the National Cemetary, alongside his forefathers and other nobles. She'd hoped for some sun, so the day wouldn't be quite as cold, at least on the outside, but her hopes were denied. As fit a mourning princess, she would not be making any eulogies at the sevice, and this gave her an opportunity to observe those foreign leaders who had come to pay their respects. A couple of these men, President Wood from Medinat; Prime Minister Valero and President Lazguias from Shandar. Others she didn't know, and made a concious decesion to meet them. Emperor Lucius of PD Comatica would be a powerful ally, one that Malkyer would benefit from making. The dignitaries' respective flags hung from the balcony, the blue-and-white of Medinat, the black-red-and-gold of Shandar, the multi-shaded blue of Comatica. From all the walls, the flag of Malkyer, the horizontal red cross on a field of blue hung alternated with the banner of House Saarad, a blackbird on a field of white. Outside, Malkyeri flags flew at half-staff across the country, and in regional neighbors. It was terribly sad, but at the same time...stirring. She shool her head and chastized herself for being so political at her father's funeral.
As Anton finished his speech, Angela walked onto the platform, wearing a white and blue dress. She smiled nervously at him, and then turned to wave at the crowd gathered. The people cheered, glad to be moving on to things more cheerful than state funerals. As she took the podium, she gave a short, but rousing, speech on her hopes for the future of the nation. Anton stood quietly behind her, accompanied by six Black Eyes. He knew there were more, but he couldn't see them. He stopped looking for them and focused on his future Queen. Standing there with the light on her face, she was beautiful. He was only about ten years her senior, it was possible that maybe...no. He shook himself out of the daze, and walked forward as she finished her speech. As Regent, it was his duty to place the crown on her head and declare her Queen. He took the circle of woven gold and silver, and placed it on her kneeling head. He turned to the people in the crowd and said:
"You have a Queen."
****
Things were looking up, but Comanelle was still furious that almost no progress had been made in the case.
