-Timbruluki, Island of Kalia-

Last night at approximately five o'clock in the evening local time, elements of the Fifth Confederate Army under the command of Lieutenant General Maxwell Hunter launched a raid against hostile natives on the recently claimed Mestionian territory of Kalia, a small island reknowned for its ideal natural ports.

The raid was launched to suppress a band of Indians numbering roughly three-hundred, whom had been, according to military officials, "creating a general disturbance, and becoming a noticeable problem in the region". Whether or not the natives were in fact hostile is a matter of debate amongst political leaders in the Confederate Congress, which convened early this morning to discuss the matter fully.

The initial attack began at five o'clock local time, when MAC-12 "Firebird" helicopter gunships laid down a missile and mini-gun barrage on the unsuspecting insurgent soldiers. After the primary bombardment, Confederate storm troopers moved into the camp, meeting heavy, albeit poor resistance. Colonel William Barrow of the 12th Storm Trooper Battalion remarked, "It's one thing to fire a rifle, it's quite another to hit a target". The Mestionian troops were able to pacify the area within minutes, killing nearly one hundred rebels and capturing another seventy.

However, as airbourne soldiers of the 5th Confederate Army proper were brought in via MH-3 "Seahawk" transport helicopters, a band of natives, apparently overlooked by the storm troopers, opened fire with automatic weapons of varying caliber. It was during this brief engagement that Corporal Jim Selkle, an airbourne trooper aboard one of the transport helicopters, was hit in the chest when an assault rifle round punctured the hull of his helicopter. Corporal Selkle died almost instantly.

Following a brief encounter with a Mestionian rocket-launcher, the offending natives were subdued, and the bulk of the Confederate force was able to land and claim the field. It was however unfortunate that during a period when the battle seemed over that another airbourne soldier, First Lieutenant Thomas Howard, tripped a wire connected to a small land mine, which when detonated, blew the young officer's legs off and landed three other soldiers incapacitated from shrapnel. Lieutenant Howard was immediately medivaced to a nearby field hospital where he died shortly after arriving.

Both Corporal Selkle and Lieutenant Howard will be laid to rest on November 5 at 2:00 pm Mestionian time in the Confederate Army national cemetary. They are remembered by their comrades in arms and a nation grateful for their service.

Army officials, in an attempt to end the accusations of the peaceful nature of the natives killed, have released images of the weapons used by the natives that killed two of the CSM's finest young men.
