C-Rations R Us Storefront

Welcome all! This is a new storefront idea that I have come up with. If you can't feed your army how are they going to fight? With this in mind, we have opened the C-Rations R Us storefront. All nations are invited to purchase items listed in our store. C-Rations and MRE's don't just have military applications, have you recently had a natural disaster? How did you feed your population while power, gas, etc. didn't work? The answer is C-Rations. Here are some interesting facts about our MRE's people will probably be interested in.

Our Ready-To-Eat (MRE) meals are designed to sustain an individual engaged in heavy activity such as military training or during actual military operations when normal food service facilities are not available. The MRE is a totally self-contained operational ration consisting of a full meal packed in a flexible meal bag. The full bag is lightweight and fits easily into military field clothing pockets. Each meal bag contains an entree and a variety of other components as may be seen in the table of Menus. For the current production year, menus 1 - 12 are designated case A, and menus 13 - 24 are designated case B. The net weight per case is approximately 22 lbs. All MRE's are shipped in case lots only.

***Please note shipping is alternated A&B lots so you don't recieve too many of one group of entrees***

The twenty-four different varieties of meals can be seen in the menu table. Components are selected to complement each entrée as well as provide necessary nutrition. The components vary among menus and include both Mexican and white rice, fruits, bakery items, crackers, spreads, beverages, snacks, candy, hot sauce, and chow mein noodles for the pork chow mein entrée. The fruits may be applesauce, pears, peaches, pineapple, or strawberry. The bakery items include a fudge brownie, cookies, fruit bars, a toaster pastry, and pound cake in flavors of lemon, vanilla, orange, pineapple, and chocolate mint. Each meal also contains an accessory packet. The contents of one MRE meal bag provides an average of 1250 kilocalories (13 % protein, 36 % fat, and 51 % carbohydrates). It also provides 1/3 of the Military Recommended Daily Allowance of vitamins and minerals determined essential by the Surgeon General of the Holy Republic of Hawdawg.

Except for the beverages, the entire meal is ready to eat. While the entree may be eaten cold when operationally necessary, it can also be heated in a variety of ways, including submersion in hot water while still sealed in its individual entree package. Since mid 1992, a flameless ration heating device has also been packed into each meal bag to heat the entree. The shelf life of the MRE is three (3) years at 80 degrees F. However, the shelf life can be extended through the use of cold storage facilities prior to distribution.

***NEW ITEM***

Introducing the T-n-T Bar

T-N-T Bars come packaged in a vacuum-sealed bag to prevent spoilage and ensure a long shelf life. The "filling" of the bars is a unique ribbon-like strips wrapped inside of a rice cake style pastry. The strips will come in a variety of flavors to include: Beef stroganoff, Taco suprise, Chicken Alfredo, and Salmon. Each bar contains approximately 1/3rd the required daily nutrients and caloric intake needed for an average soldier. The T-n-T Bars will be sold in mixed box lots of 100 bars to a case.

Price per case: $50/case

Introducing the Kaboob

Kaboob's come vacuum-sealed in individual packages to allow for individual selection of flavors within the case. Flavors include Mandarin Teriyaki, BBQ, Cajun, Habanero, and Orginal. Is it a meat stick, or jerky? Well the answer is a little bit of both. High in protein, this between MRE's snack is sure to be a hit with the troops, not to mention the packability of these items for things like long range patrols, sniper teams, etc. This is a must have item to supplement your MRE supply. Sold 180 sticks to a case.

Price per case: $90/case

125 million cases would allaieviate almost all our food problems for ops. Infact that would cut our force maintenance costs and increase morale allowing us to supply all forces for over 100 days per year and leave a few emergancy supplies. We would like to make this a standing order.

That will cost us $5,625,000,000 per year.

Actually, we were wondering if you had "snack bars" or fillo pastries and similar which are packed full of nutrients, vitamins and so forth. Sort of like cramming a meal into a sandwich, in a sense.

Further, we're looking into a long term deal regarding this packaged food, depending on its reception by the people who'll use it.
Hawdawg
17-11-2004, 04:29
We have a nutrient bar currently in the research stages that might fit your needs. We call it "T-N-T" but don't worry it won't blow you up, the acronym simply states the amazing thing this bar has in it. Most people would love to know that these bars come in Chocolate, Vanilla, Oats -n- Honey. Each bar contains 900 calories and 1/3rd the required nutrients needed in an average daily diet.

These bars are not yet in production but we will send you 100 cases (50 bars to a case) to run a trial test for us as long as you report back the results.
If the test goes favorable we will start production of these items. Any long term deals can be worked out the same way we currently handle our annual customers.

If you are interested in this deal please let us know.

Thanks,

As of this morning the test bars have been shipped to you. Please report the results of the taste test back to us so we can adjust the formula, packaging, etc. I have talked to the R&D Department and they are working on a conceptual "wrap" with the requirements you asked for. When you report the results we will have the "KW" (Kaboob Wrap) ready for an initial test soon. Since your nation asked for this item we will allow you to test it also.

As far as payment for the T-N-T bars send us what you think you need to, we really were not expecting any kind of payment on an item so fresh out of R&D.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Re: Wrong

Dear Sir:

We do know the difference between an MRE and a C Ration. We are fully aware that these differences are quite glaring, but to be honest MRE's R Us is not as catchy a name as C-Rations R Us. Meals Ready To Eat R Us is just too long of a name. Besides since it is my company I can name it anything I want. But in a politically correct world the name would be officially listed as MRE's R Us, but in this realm we are allowed creative license so respect that please.

Re: "T-N-T" bars

Users of the "T-N-T" bar have sent back some preliminary feedback...

The first issue they have is that the bars need to be more "substantial"... In that the "gooey" fillings tend to "slime" the mouth and leave an aftertaste... So they want something, well, more substantial. When asked, they generally replied "Sort of like biscuits or bread, only except we don't want something which dries our mouth."

The second issue is that the users want something less "sweet" (as in candy/sugar sweet) and which feels more "filling". Sort of like a "Mini MRE/C-Ration"... Sort of like "It tastes like Chicken... But it looks like baby food!"

Additional addendum:

Adejaani had previously tried to develop an indigenous "wrap". The biggest stumbling block was with the bread/pastry. Although it's acknowledged that treated bread/pastry may be stale, eating "soggy" bread/pastry was the biggest turn off. Not even the usual methods of water content control when baking nor the traditional techniques for making MREs/C-Rations produced "edible" bread that was acceptable to the user. We hope this facet of information can be of use.

Re: T-N-T Bars and Kaboobs

T-N-T Bars
We have worked your recommendations into the next production round of T-n-T Bars and have come up with the following specs. The bar will come be packaged in a vacuum-sealed bag to prevent spoilage and ensure a long shelf life. The "filling" of the bars will not be sticky but will be long multiple ribbon-like strips inside of a rice cake style pastry. These strips will come in a variety of flavors. The batch will include flavors of Beef stroganoff, Taco suprise, Chicken Alfredo, and Salmon patties. With the vacuum-sealing of the packages we should be able to capture the moisture of the ribbon strips and eliminate the "dry mouth" sensation from the previous test batch.

Kaboobs
The kaboobs are small finger-like snacks with a 100% wheat bread enriched with a special mold free enzyme found naturally in the stem of Red Winter Wheat. This enzyme will postpone the "stale" taste of shelf stored bread for up to 2 months in open air conditions and up to 6 months in sealed containers. The center core of the wraps are center-cut jerky style meats. The flavors in this batch include: beef, chicken, pork, elk, and bison. All meats are extremely high in protein content and have been infused with vitamin and essential micro and macro nutrients without a sacrifice to taste.
These kaboobs come sealed in individual vacuum-sealed packages and will be shipped in 100 to a case lots.

We offer these two test items from our R&D division to you Adejaani for testing. Please report the findings back and we will possibly place them in production based on the findings.

Re: T-N-T bars

The T-N-T bars are a complete success. One slightly negative feedback was that the 'stronger' flavored ones (eg beef stroganoff) to tone it down slightly... The tomato was a bit overpowering. The less strongly flavored ones, like the salmon, the feedback was to up the flavor slightly. Apart from that, we would like to buy numerous boxes once full scale production begins!

Re: Kabob wraps

The kabob wraps turned out to be extremely interesting. The flavors were exactly dead on. However, the 'beef jerky' style strips tend to be slightly tougher than usual, generally depending on if it was baked (not in the oven sense, but say, in the backback or just plain sitting in the sun too long).

A few chefs then decided to make their own experiments. They sliced a few wraps open and layered some lettuce, carrots, onions (etc) and then re-wrapped them. This adds slightly to the taste and variety, as well as the water content from the vegetables making the 'jerky' less tough.

And, of course, additional flavor varieties are requested.

Subject: MRE

Dear sir,
the Cotland Defence Force have been searching for a good and trusty supplier of rations for our soldiers, after our previous supplier delivered MREs that were expired years ago, resulting in 50% of the armed forces being admitted to hospitals with stomack pains and vomiting. The contract was (naturally) terminated immediately. We have examined your product carefully, and decided to test it. We intend to freeze store it in -40 degrees C. How long will it last?

Anyway, we want to purchase
2,000,000 crates MRE A & B X $50 - 10% = $90,000,000
10,000 crates T-N-T X $50 = $500,000
Total cost = $90,500,000

If we are satisfied, we intend to establish an annual purchase.
Money will be wired upon confirmation.

First, thank you for the order it is being processed and shipped out as we speak. Second, the shelf life in normal storage conditions is 3 years. Freezing the MRE's in cold storage environment extends the total life of the product to 5 years. The main entrees last longer than 5 years, but the bread products simply won't hold out any longer. We will fully guarantee the MRE's for the 5 year life, if frozen upon arrival.

After you recieve the order and if you are satisfied, please call again and we would be happy to add you to our annual supply list. We currently supply many nations with yearly contracts and would love to add you to our list.

Yes, and while it wasn't a home-cooked meal it beat chewing on my hand or going hungry.

Well, as somebody who's eaten just about every one of the first 24 menus, I'll give my opinion on each one

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Menu 1: Decent, nothing special. It's one of those meals that everybody can stand and some people love. The milkshake is good to eat, but even better to trade with if you want something in particular.

Menu 2: Another one of those decent meals, although I've found a few people hate it with a passion. Clam chowder isn't all that great, but the wheat snack bread and cheese combo is probably one of my favorite things in an MRE.

Menu 3: Beef Ravioli is one of those meals that people will trade almost anything to get and almost nobody will trade away. It's just that good.

Menu 4: Personally, I like it. However, a lot of people think it's nasty as all hell. I was once called an asshole by one of my Drill Sargeants because I handed him this meal.

Menu 5: Decent, although the stew is better than the chicken. The pound cake is worth its weight in gold to most soldiers.

Menu 6: Another one of those chicken menus people simply don't like. It's okay on its own, but if you take the nut-raisin mix and combine it with the PB and a little water you can greatly improve the sauce in the chicken.

Menu 7: This one's more popular than 4 and 6, but not by much. It's easy to get burned out on the main course, but everything else is always good for a boost during an afternoon in the field.

Menu 8: A good menu, especially if you use the cheese and BBQ sauce for the burger.

Menu 9: In my opinion, a bit bland. Worth more for the rare beef jerky than a real meal.

Menu 10: Enjoys a similar status to the Ravioli, although some people were burned out on it because Chilli Mac was always served in the D-Fac. I honestly don't remember what kind of cookie comes with it, but I think it's the Kreamsicle.

Menu 11: Decent main course; I detested the cherries (I hate cherries) and loved the pound cake. The candy is a common trade item

Menu 12: Not much different from the Beef Patty, it just comes with the BBQ inside the packet. The brownie, especially after you pop it in the heater for 15 seconds, is absolutely wonderful.

Menu 13: Everything in this menu is excellent, I got it whenever I could.

Menu 14: Another good meal. I don't know why the fruit cocktail is listed as "Wet Pack, Fruit" because I remember the packaging call it "Fruit Cocktail". Anyway, the fruit is better than the canned stuff you buy in the grocery store, mainly because everything else picks up the taste of the pears.

Menu 15: This is a Beef Ravioli-level meal. There isn't a thing in here that most people dislike, and if you happen to then there's somebody who will likely want it.

Menu 16: This is the only meal with Raspberry Applesauce, an incentive to get your hands on this meal on its own. Main menu is okay, although I personally prefer Campbell's.

Menu 17: This is my favorite meal, both for the snacks you get and the main meal. Some people simply don't like the chicken meals, but they usually won't grumble about getting this because of the snacks.

Menu 18: A good meal, especially if you're hungry and want something substantial. The pretzels are the filled type, by the way.

Menu 19: Never got the hand of this meal, but I'm not a big fan of roast beef.

Menu 20: Decent, although from the way I hear my DS' tell it, the older style MREs had better spaghetti.

Menu 21: Nothing special, but once again the almight Dairy Shake showes itself. All Hail the Dairy Shake!

Menu 22: A lot better than the crap they served at the D-Fac, I assure you. Another one with good snacks.

Menu 23: Okay, if a little bland. I got this sometimes for the simple fact that my battle buddy loved the fig bars and would always trade for them.

Menu 24: Vanilla Wafers r teh pwnz. There's no other reason to get this meal, in my opinion. It just doesn't stack up to homemade or even D-Fac meatloaf.
