Flagship of the UFP Task Group
Sith Occupied Territory

It was a Council of War that was being convened in the briefing room, a massive circular room the size and grandeur of which that could only be afforded on the largest of Dreadnaughts.

Marge Yustin, Rear Admiral of the Red, Knight Companion of Arduous earned her command through the bloody attrition of the Raumreich War. The group of officers gathered in the briefing room represented the largest gathering of the Commonwealth Naval ships since that bloody war. It was a sign of the commitment of their bond with the Cordians, the WIckians stood by them, and would bleed for them even after they "officially" surrendered. She stood and walked to a podium whose front bore the seal of Arduous and the Nation's colors were at her back.

"Sons and Daughters of THETIS hear my words!" With that the 400 officers gathered quieted. "Since the day we swore our life’s in defense of our sacred constitution we swore to protect those who can not protect themselves. Our Allies need us now, and by the will of the Tester will shall protect them! We have seen the treachery of the occupiers we will not stand for it. We must rescue these people from their fate!" Cheers erupted at her words. "Gathered here is the largest concentration of our ships outside the Raumreich, we are strong. We shall strike one of the occupied colony worlds defeat the occupiers and evacuate whom we can, we will continue this until there are no more victims to save, or until the last of us are dead! We know our duty, we shall carry it out! For Honor!" She shouted.

"For Thetis!" the gathered officers replied finish the WIckian battle cry.

Flagship the Coredian Flotilla
In Hyperspace en route to Talos System

Marge Yustin looked into the expanse of Hyperspace and reflected on the situation. Hyperspace itself was a separate dimension then subspace, ships traveled at many times the speed of light depending upon what grav-wave they rode. All her ships rode “High” nearly into the Iota Wave traveling at roughly 16 hundred times the speed of light, it was dangerous but would allow for rapid movement to their target the Sith occupied colony of Talos. Her fleet the former concentration of WIckian Vessels that policed the UFP was renamed the Coredian Flotilla, whose mission it would be to rescue any Coredian citizens it could from the fate that was suffered by those on Shelana. Those rescued would be sent to the home world of the Commonwealth, from there they could stay or get transport to a destination of chose but at least they would not be “converted”.

She looked over the tactical display of her flotilla, it was the largest most powerful gathering of ships assembled by the Commonwealth outside the Raumreich, it was also a very diverse group of combat vessels.

There was no less then Eight(a full Battle Squadron) of Vigilance class Super Dreadnaughts. These were over 4.5 km in length and where the leviathans of the Commonwealth Fleet. Built with the harsh lessons of the Raumreich War, they were pod based designs. They lacked a convention missile broadside instead missile pods would be deployed behind the vessel, up to twenty at a time, allowing for 400 missile launches of the new Lance class missile. The missile came in two variants, Laser warhead or Fusion. The Laser warheads used the term “laser” as a drawback from the past it was not any sort of heat that would be doing the damage to the target. At 20 thousand kilometers a nuclear detonation would occur forcing gamma radiation through a central nexus point turning it into a massive coherent beam propelled with such force it became a kinetic weapon when it penetrated shields it would punch through amour and shatter the decks underneath, it was a preverbal sledge hammer. The fusion warheads were different, it was an idea stolen from the Valinor and their deadly and professional Space Armada, each missile contained a warhead capable upon detonation of a yield of 7-8 gigatons, the draw back was they were not stand-off weapons like the Laser missiles they had to contact an enemy vessel to be effective (meaning they need to reach a range of 6-20 km roughly) allowed more time for a ships point defense to intercept the warheads. Such deadly weapons were limited in number even on a Super Dreadnaught which carried only a couple thousand, when compared to more conventional nuclear warheads each comparable to fifty megatons. However a few inventive ways to negate this draw back was drafted by Marge who was anxious to test them in battle.

The other units to be deployed in any battle would be the Thousand plus Light Attack Craft of the flotilla. It would be folly to consider these units “Light” or like fighters of the Empire. They were more then a hundred meters in length and contained a Graser found on the Navies Battle Cruisers. Also each Lac had two Tri-packs of missiles, basically a normal missile pod cut into thirds and attached two hard points on the LACs hull, with nuclear and fusion warheads that would be used in their “Triple Ripple” tactic. They also had the benefits of sidewalls and the wedge.

The Wedge which propels all Commonwealth ships and the sidewalls were unique in this part of space, and so she contemplated there uses. The Wedge was bands of tightly stretched gravity that pulled the ship forward located above and below the ship angled roughly at 30 degrees. It was formed by the beta nodes on the two impeller rings of the ship. The wedge on ships like Super Dreadnaughts could be up to 500km by the same wide, there was also no known weapon that could penetrate the wedge. As such a common tactic among ships of the Wall was to “roll” ship to interpose the wedge to enemy fire negating it. Large ships could take a while to “roll” when compared to units like heavy cruisers who could roll in a second, battles between lighter combats was like watching a couple whirling dervishes duel, where as ships of the wall was more of two giants in armor slug it out.

Look here for more info along with a picture of a wedge and sidewall and how it relates to the size of a SD
http://dahak.ne.client2.attbi.com:8...ge_geometry.htm

Sidewalls simply point are a weaker version of the wedge, they stretched between the wedges provided a shield on both port and starboard sides of a WIckian vessels. These bands would deflect/distort/absorb anything shot at it. They were strong as ranges increased as range decreased they could be more easily penetrated. Larger ships of course would have stronger sidewalls.
Then we come to the armor of the vessels itself, What armor is is an advanced sandwich of composites. The outermost skin is a very tough, very hard ceramic "alloy" designed to defeat kinetic as well as energy impacts. It does splinter when hit by something like a graser, but that is allowed for in the design, and it is best thought of as a boundary layer, intended to protect the inner armor system from routine or light damage. Behind the outer skin is a series of sandwiched layers of ablative/refractory armor designed to deflect/absorb/dissipate energy hits. Each sandwich is defined by thin boundaries of the same ceramic which forms the outer skin, and each boundary layer acts, in effect, as splinter armor against anything coming in from the next layer out.
This armor is formed in place once the internal hull is completed. It is, in essence, a "one piece skin" which covers the entire hull, thicker in some places, thinner in others. Its function is not so much to stop all damage from penetrating into the interior of the ship as it is to channel and confine that damage--to limit it, if you will. In addition, the armor itself provides an important aspect of the structural strength of the hull. And of course the larger the ship the larger the protective sandwich will be, vessels as “small” as a Destroyer of Lac may only have one layer where Super Dreadnaughts have scores of layers.
Another benefit of WIckian ships is that there is no explosive decompression, all rooms of the vessel with the exception of the sick bay and bridge or impellor rooms are drained of all atmosphere when battle is imminent. ALL personal where skin suits that protect them from vacuum and are also protective , think 31st century Kevlar.

“Ma’am we are almost to the Talos hyper-limit!” the navigational officer reported.

“Very well, Beat to quarters, sound alarm for rapid deceleration from hyper.” She ordered, the officer repeated her orders before carrying them out. The bridge was suddenly cast in the green light of battle alert was sounded.

“Cut off that alarm, Replace it with something more soothing, Honzollerings “Stand against the Night” if you please.” Yustin commanded.

All through out the ship a crescendo of piano and classical instruments filled the corridors as the battle hymn of the Commonwealth Navy was played inspiring all those who heard it. The process would repeat itself on every ship in the fleet.

“Bring us across the Alpha wave” Yustin order as the 170 plus ships (Check OOC thread for exact stats) of the flotilla violently decelerated from the alpha wave under impeller wedge they appear on the fringe of the Talos system at a high rate of speed moving rapidly into the system.
Recon drones sped from every ship along with decoys and ECM buoys that would cast the fleet in an ECM haze.

The Commonwealth Navy would now meet the SITH in battle, and it would be Epic…a battle that would be remembered for generations.

Talos System

“CAPTAIN, LARGE FORCE OF HOSTILES INCOMING.”

“BATTLESTATIONS. Where the HELL did they come from. Why didn’t the sensor network pick them up.”

“Sir sector three isn’t powered up the grid has yet to be fully activated.”

“Well power it up.”

“Sensor stations 443 to 900 are now activating” the petty officer said. The power signatures almost nothing would barely attract notice however it would show the ISD’s what they were encountering.

“Captain we have multiple hostiles closing sir its an entire fleet. They are Wick ships captain.”

The captain clenching his fists made his way to the navigation console and ordered the operator to plot hyperspace coordinates for Tenatia where the fleet was already massed.

“We will not be bale to win this fight commander. We should retreat and bring back more reinforcements.”

“What about the planet? Hopefully the storm troopers will be able to hold. Helm jump us out as soon as possible.”

The four star destroyers were now powering up their drive systems as the enemy opened fire the vessel glided off into hyperspace sadly leaving a few isolated tie fighters behind the pilots simply powered down their drive systems and waited for the fleet to return or death.

The Transports were just over half full of Cordian refugees, Yustin was surprised they had so much time to evacuate the refugees, just a little more and the transports would be filled. Transports indeed ¾ of them were the large 4 km bulk transports of the Merchant Marine the remaining four were the navies’ assault transports heavily armed and armored, for a transport however half the size of their civilian counterparts.

That was when many angry blots of red icon appeared on the edge of the system, the Sith had returned…

“Call back all shuttles immediately, once they’ve returned, helm I want a least time course out of this system, our priority today is to get these refuges to safety not to fight the Sith Fleet.”
