Shalrirorchian President Tarumigan Gistarai (news/websites), in an apparent swipe at a recent Drum Gods diplomatic gaffe involving transsexuals (
http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=7348882&posted=1#post7348882), signed legislation enacted by Congress today legalizing gay marriage and partnership benefits.

"The United States of Shalrirorchia will not stand by and behold two classes of people...those who have rights and those who do not. Denying gays and lesbians the right to marry creates two different classes of Shalrirorchian citizens, and violates the U.S. Constitution's promise of equal protection under the law." the President announced.

The President's party, the Progressive-Democratic Party, controls both houses of Congress.

Conservative Senator Joseph Kenkarra blasted the Gistarai decision. "It goes against two-hundred years of legal precedent. God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve."

Phone calls to PDP Headquarters in Shalcoria were not returned.
