Grand Duke Discourages Political Parties

Today, Grand Duke Kos himself addressed the Apollinan Senate to broach the issue of the formation of political parties. The Grand Duke told the Senate, and thus the people, that "the desicion to come out of isolation has meant a large influx of ideas and ideals from outside of Apollina". The Grand Duke expressed "concern" that the ideas political parties would begin to take root in Apollinan government and politics "to the detriment" of our political system. Therefore he

"officially dissuades the formation of political parties in order to save our way of life and stop the degradation and division of our nation into small factions. This would harm our nation incredibly, especially due to our new, rapid, economic development after the years of isolation"

The Grand Duke stated that he would not go as far as to ban political parties, but he wanted to make clear that their formation would be harmful to Apollina.

The Foreign Office will release a statement to other nations, explianing this position, very soon.

I'm glad to see other staunchly royalist nations here! In my nation, the emperor is an absolute ruler, and the closest things we have a "legeslative" branch are the: "Imperial Diet" (an assembly of over 1000 peers of the realm; it mostly ceremonial) and/or the "Grand Curia" (as sort of supreme ourt, which also regesters imperial edicts and decrees; its members are appt. by the either the Emperor, Lord Chancellor, or PM. Political parties are completly unknown.

Okay, you obviously don't know History. Remember the Russian Revolution? Well, that's the result of bad leadership. You better pray you run your nation good, because those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. And of course standard condemning act. Well, at least you opress them equally.

Official Foreign Office Statement

The international community may or may not have heard that our Grand Duke has made a statement to the Senate that he does not think that Apollinans should set up or join political parties. This step was taken as he belives that it will lead to the downfall of our political system that has stood strong for over 150 years.

Our Grand Duke is, effectively, an elected monarch. A new Grand Duke is nominated from the Senate after a general election every 20 years. The Senate has elections every 10 years and is more of a consulting agent to the Cabenit and Grand Duke; they pass on concerns from the voters in thier area to the Cabenit who are then able to act. The Senate also acts as in keeping a check on the Grand Duke and his actions; they can enact a vote of no confidence if 75 of the 100 Senators sign a petition calling for one.

The Grand Duke feels that political division caused by party politics will mean that what is best for the public will not be done, there will be battles for the position of a Grand Duke that will have less legitemecy and support as the parties will pressure Senators to voted for thier candidate, not the man who is best for the job. In the long run, this will harm the people and the legitemacy of the Governing system.

We hope that your office has noted the new, official, release from the Grand Duke's Foreign Office. Our Embassy would like to know how exactly you believe we opress our population. They have more power than a "democratic republic", or other such systems, they are able to force a general refurendum by gathering 70% on a petition of the population at any time in the 20 year term. We also feel that serving a longer term means that our leaders have no real need to pander for votes, they can do what is best for the nation rather than spend time and money on gimmiks to sway the population.

As long as you oppress them all equally, we really don't have a problem. You wouldn't believe how common it is.

OOC: My own views are that the only reasons Russia expierenced revolution were:

1) the foolish Alexander III had emancipated the serfs (they should not have been freed, but kept as they were)
2) Nicholas II was not a very strong ruler in absolutist terms (I would have completly SMASHED all opposition)
