M-00 Ogre

What is it?
The Mk0 Ogre is the prototype under evaluation and improvement for a series of ultra heavy tanks for use in the plains of the UCSNE, primarily. The first thing one notices about the Ogre are the massive amount treads and squat design. This has three reasons. Firstly, to keep the pressure of the nearly 300 ton vehicle within sanity, secondly, to increase survivability against heavy land mines (Such as those that have blown M1s turrets clean off), and thirdly to help keep the profile low.

As it would be ridiculous to use a conventional power plant on the Ogre, the tank currently uses a pair of QNFR sealed circuit reactors. The tank can hit 25mph in perfect conditions.

http://img28.exs.cx/img28/349/ogre02.png

These reactors also help power 3 HYVELOC 155mm guns. While many just put increasing amounts of caliber on weaponry, it is clear velocity is more important. The weapons use EM rifling and Electrothermal-Chemical propellant. As a prototype, this may change. There are 3 40mm Metalstorm guns mounted on the vehicle as well. Pictured are the 5 25mm machine guns (Without protective blistering) and 24 missile tubes.

The tank uses a very powerful computer AI, nowhere near self aware (An unecessary thought for a tank... Although many researchers claim to have computers in the UCSNE capable of this, it would be quite an embarassment if tanks refused to advance if the probability of their survival was too low or missiles argued with targeting computers.), to assist a crew of 5 (Commander, Driver, 3 weapons operators).

OOC: Basically, I'm open for comments, criticism, joint development, etc. Keep in mind this is 2025+, and if you don't understand why it's so big, I can explain.

300 tons, 3 main guns, 2 small nuclear reactors... Nothing to say?

Needs more secondary and tertiary armament. Also, considering this thing is even larger than an Admiral A-1, shouldn't it weigh more?

I like the general design of the chassis, but suggest armored skirts to protect the treads.

Well, it does have side skirts... just hard to see.

And it weighs 300 tons... Doesn't yours weigh 200?

Well more secondaries and tertiaries, you say? Hmm... Maybe the AP/PDS batteries could be expanded to say... This.

Of course on a smaller scale... But you get the idea.

cool, someone who plays Ogre and GEV too I suspect.... I used to love those games

I'm considering adjusting the weight of mine to 350-400 tons (the argument in that thread has done at least that much).

Edit: Also, that big gap between the treads looks like an excellent shot trap :|

would these be going for sale?

"cool, someone who plays Ogre and GEV too I suspect.... I used to love those games"

Yup... Good stuff. 'Course this is about a MkI, maybe II. I won't be getting to a MkIII-IV level for a while.

"I'm considering adjusting the weight of mine to 350-400 tons (the argument in that thread has done at least that much).

Hmm... Perhaps 375, for me, then. Leaves more room for my AP battieres.

As for the shot trap, well, nothing vital there, really, but I'll have that cleared up for the Mark I (This is Mark 0)

NoF, it's a prototype, hence the 00/Mark Zero designation. But it's doubtful I'll be spreading these around like candy.

OOC: Well yeah, but it was in DoGA L3... I'm not that good, heh.

Bastard still takes a long time to render.

Side skirts aren't new, but this gives you a good idea of the upper turret.

One more bump before I do the writeup for the final version.

After realizing just how many batteries an Ogre can feasibly carry, I've changed this thing a bit.

http://img29.exs.cx/img29/8539/ogre1.png

Main guns the same, secondaries are 24 barrel 80mm metalstorms (6), tertiaries have a 30mm autocannon, 30mm rocket grenade launcher, 7.62mm minigun (6)

Weight is 375 tons.

Am I insane?

I am officially impressed. I also love the pic. :)

Just damn! That is absolutly insane man! I love it. I'd hate to come up against one in combat. Also when you do begin selling them I have to get a few!

Thank you Axis... I'll have the final writeup soon.

Phalanix, I'm not sure when I'll start selling. Probably when I get to the Mark II.

M-01 Ogre Mk I 'Heritage'
http://img29.exs.cx/img29/8539/ogre1.png
Design
The M-01 Ogre Mk I is one of the heaviest tanks on earth, and one of the deadliest. The vehicle is around 375 tons on full load, but thanks to a huge amount of treads on it's squat, wide design, it's PSI is actually quite low, comparable to 'heavy' tanks such as the M-88. The vehicle is highly automated, with the crew sitting in a 'command room' deep in the bowels of the vehicle. There are access and escape 'tunnels', but for the majority of the time the crew is in this room. The vehicle is equipped with EleRA, which makes it completely immune to HEAT and shaped charge rounds. A scientist describes:
"As is well known, a current of just thirteen amps is sufficient to 'blow' and disintegrate the fuse of a household electrical appliance. Similarly, the high speed copper jet from a shaped charge anti-tank warhead is virtually instantaneously dispersed by the high temperatures and powerful fields generated by the so-called 'Pulsed Power' System carried by the vehicle. Any residual debris is absorbed by the vehicle’s ordinary armoured hull."
For more information, contact either Artitsa or the UCSNE. At this time we do not wish to disclose it to buyers. The armor of the Badger is highly refined, and coupled with 'Smart Armor' (TG Artitsa) and NxRA, the tank has 8000mm RHA equivalent vs KE rounds, meaning the 120mm sabot round of an Abrams would take around 10 hits in the same area just to penentrate. Also mounted is WASP II for dealing with weapons targeted at the side of the vehicle. The Wasp AMPS consists of packets of 5mm Flechettes. Each packet contains flechette "Needles" and their propellant. When the computer in the Wasp AMPS detects incoming missiles, by the same criteria ARENA does, it fires off sections of the appropriate packet at it, showering the missile with high velocity (1500mps) armor piercing flechettes, destroying it, which will eliminate the missile completely, or detonating it prematurely, with minimal, if any damage to the vehicle. In extreme situations, the Wasp AMPS can be used against infantry, which causes horrific effects. Four laser blinders are mounted on the tank for dealing with enemy optics or IR seekers.

Powerplant and Propulsion
A pair QNFR reactors are mounted on the tank, giving it several days of endurance. The tank can reach a maxmium speed of just barely 30mph on the road in good conditions. The QNFRs are mounted inside full cooling and radiation protection systems to ensure saftey.

Armarment

Main Batteries
Three 155mm HYVELOC guns are mounted on the tank, two in forward turrets and one on top. These guns use ETC propellant and EM rifling for the ability to use lower powered shots or hypersonic railgun rounds to take out enemy armored vehicles, specifically heavy, superheavy, or ultraheavy tanks. They are loaded through robotic autoloaders, like the rest of the tank.

Secondary Batteries
There are six 80mm Metalstorm guns, firing HYVELOC KEAP(ER) rounds. Each gun has 24 barrels, and with a massive ROF and superior velocity, these are capable of destroying many MBTs.

Tertiary/PDS
Six tertiary batteries are mounted on the tank. These are designed for self defense and taking out aircraft or light vehicles. A 7.62mm HYVELOC ammo minigun is the weapon of choice against infantry, while a 30mm cannon can pluck helicopters out of the sky or rip up IFVs. There is a 30mm Rocket grenade launcher that can fire HE/Flechette rounds against missiles or other targets.

Missile Battery
48 ATGMs or small SAMs can be mounted in this rack of missiles towards the rear.

Sensors, Systems, and Countermeasures
Although there are the normal 'vision blocks' of old for the crew, virtually all of the information is relayed through enhanced optic, low light, and thermal imagers mounted on the turret, miniturret, and main body, allowing the men to choose virtually any angle they want to view. A millimetric radar is mounted in each tertiary, as well as LIDAR. A larger, longer ranged radar is mounted on the uppermost turret. There are also LIDAR module that can serve as a laser designator or LADAR. The tank uses a sophisticated heat venting system to vent it downward onto the ground rather than a thermal plume as with older vehicles. The tank has full NBC filtering for protection of the crew. If necessary, the M01 can control small UAVs or UGVs. This is very useful, meaning the Ogre can be an indirect fire support unit or spotter, use UGVs to flush out ambushes, and a variety of other tasks. A smaller version of the supercomputer used on the SNARC SSNR-1 is mounted on the tank.

This armoured behemoth of yours is nothing other then a waste of metal. The hundreds of tons you use could be put forth to build a higher number of the superior M88's which actually have a role to fill. I am sure our M88's can deal with the Admiral A1M3. No need for Artitsa to lay a purchase on the table for this one.

ooc: Just building the plot up. :D Seriously, nice tank.
