Terrorist Attacks in Tharra

A smile sat plainly on Emperor Alexander II's pale face as his golden state coach rolled through the streets of the imperial capital of Corva, drawn by a team of 18 horses. The streets were lined with well wishers, wanting to catch a glimpse of the man that god had appointed to rule them, the man that had just recently celebrated his eighteenth birthday, and the birth of his son.

He turned to his bride, Empress Anne, and ran a hand through her fair tresses, "I'd say the Grand Curia was pleased with my new appointments."

"I'd hope," she replied, "considering the fact that two out of fifteen Justices actually dared to question a new Imperial Educt on Serfdom."

"Yes, I-" but his reply was cut short by a great BANG! as if the very streets had been cleaved in two. The Empress screamed, fainting from amazment; and just as this happened, Alexander noticed the carriage lost two of its wheel and was tipped.

Quickly, the Emperor climbed out of the coach, carrying his limp bride. Two Ladies in Waiting rushed down the street to take Her Majesty (they had ridden in a carriage preceding His Majesty's).

Alexander noticed, as he handed her away, that most of his honor guardsmen (selected from the Imperial Guard) were now gathering about him; he also saw that the street was torn apart: a bomb had exploded.

A second explosion rocked the ground, and a few guards even lost footing as the second bomb went off, followed by gunshots. "Get the Empress back to the palace. Captain, tell your men to fire at once." the Emperor commanded, just as nearly 18 armed figures came into view, robed in black, and carrying assault rifles. Several of the men (6) fired, screaming "Liberate the Serfs!" and "Destroy the Emperor!" but they were no sooner cut down by a backlash from the honor guard.

People were fleeing in every direction, and it could be seen that even a few civilians had died in the blast. "Damn." the Emperor muttered.

"Good evening, and welcome to Channel 7 news, Tharra's first in national updates." Said a thin, dark reporter, "I'm Mathilde Seger. A breaking update! Today, while making his way back from a meeting with the Grand Curia, our beloved, and God appointed, Emperor was attacked...by terrorists. The group planted several bombs, and even fired shots. Luckily, only a few subjects were killed and injured, and no one in the imperial party. Of the 18 terrorists, 6 were killed by the Imperial Honor Guard, and the rest detained by them.

"The Arch Chancellor has just released a statement, which we'll go live to now..."

A tall, ruddy man can be seen in state robes, addressing a crowd of dignitaries in the Hall of State. "His Imperial Majesty has asked me to inform you that the situation is under control. The would-be terrorists attacked, attempting to seize power. Their foolish attempts have of course prooved as futile as they are. Several of the terrorists were run-away-serfs, and the entire motive behind the attack was to promote the unethical, let alone absurd, idea of 'Emancipation of the Serfs'. As we all know, this preposterous; As one of the surviving members is a serf, he has been shot at once, on orders of his master, the Count zu Hergei. The others have had their rights to a trial by the Grand Curia waved, and will be judged by the Emperor and his Arch-Court alone..."

Cheers quickly followed, along with shouts of "God Save the Emperor."

Major Andre Yust, in charge of the Tharra Desk looked up at the youngish Naval Intelligence Ensign whom approached his desk.

"Flash Traffic from Tharra. The Emperor was nearly assassinated. our Small Station in Tharra seems to suggest that it was elements whom oppose the new serfdom edict."

the Major almost said good, and in all honesty hoped he was dead but alas he couldnt say that "Tharra is stabilized at the moment?"

"Yes sir"

Send this over to the Deputy Director of the Ministry of External Affairs (Elizabethshire's Foriegn Intelligence Service)

(Hour later)

Associate Director Christy Smith was eating a small working lunch as she read over reports from her area of the world when there was a knock at the door

"Yes Captain?"

"The Tharran Emperor was nearly assassinated today."

alas Deputy Director Smith nearly said good as well but caught herself "Too bad, we really dont like him. "

"Major Yust asked that this be sent to you as well as his report"

"Whats it say Captain?"

"That we our External Affairs agents should look into making contact with the insurgents there and start providing support"

"the Problem with Major Yust is in order to do that, we have to get approval from the Intelligence and Foriegn Affairs Committee of the State Council and they always refer it to the Full State Council."

"Well Major Yust seems to think that it wouldnt hurt to train and arm those slaves and perhaps send in Paramilitaries to undermine this regime"

Director Smith sighed as he took the report "Ill Present it to the Committee of the State Council tonight."

(later that night)

"...And that region has calmed down recentlly" Director Smith finished "I have one last topic for you all tonight. The Tharran Emperor was nearly assassianted today while on a stroll through his capitol"

"Good" State Council Member John Thurman said

"the External Affairs Department in Tharra wishes to arm the Insurgents there and train them, going possibly as far as sending in Paramilitary teams and Agents there to undermine the regime

"Make it so" Thurman said as the topic changed to funding issues

The Arch-Chancellor, who's job it was to oversee the Department of Justice, stepped into the long, cool marble room that served as Emperor Alexander's office. A Gentleman of the Chamber approached him, and led him towards the Emperor, who sat at his alabastar writing desk.

At a sign from the valet, a nearby herald-at-arms announced "His Excelency, Prince Ulrik zu Ilyth, the Arch Chancellor."

Alexander looked up, the light catching his dark tresses and highlighting his milk-white flesh, "Yes?"

The Arch Chancellor bowed low, "Your Imperial Majesty," he glanced about the room. Both the chamberlain and herald were trying not to appear interested, though expierence made him doubt this. The Empress was also there, and making no secret of her interest.

"Leave us." The Emperor commanded; however, Empress Anne stayed where she was. "You may speak freely in front of your Empress, chancellor."

"Of course, Majesty. It is done; the report has come in and it appears that the twelve have been tortured well...however, they admit nothing. I fear that this will not-"

"I have heard. Yes, they didn't seem too...talkative yesterday at their trial either. Well, make an example of them. Tommorrow, hang them."

"Yes your majesty." he said with a bow.

(an hour later)

The room was stifled in a manner of speaking, as the fourty member Imperial Privy Council's session drew to a start (it was the highest gov. body).

"Your Majesty." The State Secretary of Foreign Affairs said politly, as the he assumed his seat.

"The State Secretary of Foreign Affairs has the floor." the Lord Herald breathed.

"Yes?" the Emperor replied.

"At this meeting, I'd like to bring up the recent stance of the nation of Elizabethshire. After hearing of our troubles, the nation's External Affairs Dept. released a statement. They said, qoute, 'we wish to arm and train these insurgents' unqoute, and even took a hostiler stance."

"This cannot be tolerated!" the Prime Minister inturpted.

"But it has happened." the Emperor stated, "And I will not tolerate this either. Send a message to the ambassador and tell him that Tharran internal affairs are THARRAN business; unless he wishes to aid US of course."

"And the rebels?" Baron zu Weisor, the Secretary of Internal Affairs dared to ask.

"We will maintain the same position we always had on Serfdom, for well over seven centuries the law has been clear...and four of those under our present empire. Serfdom will always exist, they make up 20% of the bloody population!"

"Of course. Shall we double the guard?" asked the Grand Marshal, who held sway over military affairs.

"Most definatly."

A huge crowd of supporting commoners gathered about the podium in the imperial square of Corva. Upon it, 12 haggered and bleeding induviduals stood: nooses about their necks, waiting for the inevitable.

"Behold now their supposed evil faces! They are none but the scum of the earth, even serfs outrank them!" cried the curia official charged with the execution (he was but a lowly beaurocrat himself, in the Dept of Justice).

"You are charged with High Treason against the empire, and murder of several commonfolk. You have been sentenced to death as such by the Arch Court, under His August Majesty's authority. Proceed." stated the official, nodding to the executioner.

Moments later, the lever was pulled and it all ended with a huge cheer by the crowd.
