Kanabia
25-10-2004, 07:08
The elections for the Kanabian Peoples Congress are now underway. Questions to candidates are welcome.

Green Marxist Party (GMP) -
Current Leader - Christopher Kotovesky (currently in power, seeking 4th term)
Agenda- Environmental protection, neutral military policy, Increased humanitarian aid to overseas nations, emphasis on education spending. Strong Anti-dictatorship foreign stance, co-operation with democratic capitalists.

Currently control 126 seats in Peoples Congress, 63 in Peoples Senate

Popular Communist Party (PCP) -
Current Leader - Marie Lefebre
Agenda- Global military role, some elements are pro-export of communist ideology, industrial expansion. Active role in world affairs, somewhat hostile stance towards certain regimes, very anti-fascist but will cooperate with dictatorships if necessary. Feels that the government is neglecting rural interests somewhat.

Currently control 102 seats in Peoples Congress, 51 in Peoples Senate

Liberal Democracy Party (LDP) -
Current Leader - Kamido Matsuha
Agenda- Free enterprise, economic development, disarmament. Strong civil rights. Strongest of all minor parties, though support fluctuates wildly from election to election. Very Pro-democracy.

Currently control 42 Seats in Peoples Congress, 21 in Peoples Senate

Kanabian Nationalist Party (KNP)
Current Leader - Anatoly Korenchkin
Agenda- Nuclear Weapons capability, strong military, acquisition of foreign colonies. A new citizenship policy: Immigrants can only become "provisional" citizens and only native born Kanabians can be full citizens. Supports creation of a ceremonial monarchy. Some concern about shady dealings within the party, several members (All members of the military) recently arrested by the Intelligence service on unknown charges. This may hurt political performance.

Currently control 18 Seats in Peoples Congress, 9 in Peoples Senate

Kanabian Christian Democrats
Current Leader - David McMillan
Agenda- Free enterprise, ban gay marriage and other "immoral" government policies, government support to catholic church and compulsory religious instruction in schools. A tax towards non-christian churches. Support limited, as only 32.4% of the population considers itself Christian, and only about half of those Catholic. They see Kanabia as a regime that is doomed if it does not open itself up to God. Supports creation of a ceremonial monarchy.

Currently Control 6 Seats in Peoples Congress, 3 in Peoples Senate.

Conservative Democrat Party -
Current Leader - Anthony Guttenburg
Agenda- Basically a protestant counterpart to the Christian Democrats, also attracts generally conservative but non-christian members of the population however. May form a coalition with the Christian democrats or Nationalists however.

New Party, no seats currently held.

OOC: Only the Two Major Parties (Green Marxists and Popular Communist Party) have any real chance of winning. The minor parties can only hope to get enough power to hinder the government, at this stage.

OOC: Nah, we don't have them here, because voting is compulsory. The alternative would be a fine from the electoral commission if you didn't vote :p

And its a public poll, so too bad, lol. I just curious to see where people stand.

Mr. Matsuha and Mr. Korenchkin have both promised to withdraw Kanabia from the Communist International if elected.

In other news, several blackshirted men today assaulted a number of people at a polling booth...an elderly man is not expected to survive the night.
