Canal Building Project

Ramissle
24-10-2004, 23:07
The nation of Ramissle is considering building a 220 mile canal connecting the Nile River and The Red Sea. As we have very recently came from a victorious war, we are seeking aid to build this canal, to be dubbed the Red-Nile Canal. We do not know the approximate timeframe/cost as is now. Any nations aiding in this endeavor shall receive free passage through the canal. Thank You for your time.

Here are the proposed phases:

Phase 1
55 mile stretch
Entrance 1
Possible Port
Lock 1

Phase 2
55 mile stretch
Lock 2

Phase 3
55 mile stretch
Lock 2 continuation

Phase 4
55 mile stretch
Lock 3
Possible Port

Also we could build a optional 220 mile pipeline. Security would be state of the art. The canal would be able to let the largest trimaran carriers and the largest cargo vessels through. Also commerce around the Red Sea and Nile River areas would exponentially increase.

Project Overview:

4 Sections-55 miles each
120,000 jobs
20 year construction time
Total Cost- 85,000,000,000 dollars(could increase with options)

Thank you,

Very very good! I will put forward 76,000,000,000, and 54,000 workers. The state of the art functions should also be added. Building to begin in NS 2 Years(RL Monday).

I will pay the rest of the bill and supply 50,000 workers if you wish it.

Very good, 250 Frigates of construction equipment are on there way along with the rest of the work force. Supplies are being ordered and will be on site in time for work.

Very good. Thank you Pentovia.
Borrowing from Bonstock a little, ships should be charged 2% of the total value of their cargo. They must ask for inspection when they get withen 5 miles of ports. If the ships do not hail Ramissilan Coast Guard until/after 2 miles, then an extra 1% will be added to the cost. Ships that ignore the rules will be pirated when they reach first lock. Militiary ships will be charged 1% of the total value of their payload, with the same ramifications above.
Those who helped build the canal get free passage, and 3% of the profit. What do you think?

You should post a map. I don't quite see the point of sailing a carrier group into the Nile.

25-10-2004, 02:20
You should think about lowering spending on the project.Well, actually it depends. How many years will it take?
Ramissle
25-10-2004, 02:40
Please read how long it says it will take to build. As for Wolfish, the map shall be posted shortly. The advantages would be being able to go down the Blue and White Nile, towards central africa, and being able to go up to egypt without going through the Suez. The real advantages are in the economic sector. Imagine the boom the Upper Nile will go through.

George Blitzal, Ramissle News Network
"In breaking news today, Economic Development Official Bob Castanza announced that construction on the long awaited Red-Nile Canal would begin today. The cerimonial breaking of the ground was done by newly retired CEO of Forsine Industries Jeremy Kramal. The 220 mile canal is to go from the farthest point west of the Nile River to the Red Sea, as seen in this picture here (http://www.geocities.com/kingchuckles1313/canalproject.html). Phase One is excpected to be finished in 5 NS years, with the whole canal finished in 20. This was George Blitzal, RNN News.

This will be a great project to improve trade in the region.

However, I continue to see issues with practical military use of the canal - perhaps if you put a multi-national shipyard on the Nile - a re-supply and re-fitting base - you could draw the military traffic you want.

Just my thoughts.

OOC:
Good point. There would not be much need for a militiary use in this canal. However, think about this. A Nation on the East coast of Africa or in the Persian Gulf needs to attack a country in Central Africa, such as Kenya or Congo. Instead of going over 2000 miles from Port Sudan to where the present day canal is ending in the Nile, they could go 200. Now, this is espicially importaint for me. I have coast on the Nile and on the Red Sea. I need to be able to defend Port Ficali and my Naval bases.

But it is a great idea for a refitting station. Perhaps I will add that later. However, I am getting pretty low on funds, coming from a war and all. But your proposal is considered.

Isnt that why youd have airbases?

(IC)
The Confederacy Of Harlesburg celebrates this goal and wishs to help in any way possible in return Harlesburg would like the idea floated on the international market and as such the opportunities for shares.
In return for Harlesburg assistance we would like shares and access to the nile.

Yours in patience

Permission Granted Harlesburg.
OOC: Actually, I doubt my feeble airforce could fend off some of the BBS's their are today. No shares however. This will be a privatly owened endevor. You do get 3% of the profit though.
I have to go now. Wait 'till tomorrow for answers to any more questions. Feel free to ask them now though. Keeps traffic up.

K&K Enterprises would be intersted in helping your great country in this endeavor, we would be willing to put forth 10 billion US Dollars toward the project and supply 2,000 of our finest engineers. We would also be interested in commercial rights to the ports of call on the canal. Thank you for your time.

Of Course K&K. Your workers and money has been added to the budget. An artificial lake will now be added on the East Side of the Nile. When their is more room in our budget, it will become a refitting/refueling station. However, it will be completly owend by Ramissle, as we do need some money. And your proposal to buy the harbors is denied. Those areas are strictly for The Ramissilian Economic Development Board.
Roycelandia
26-10-2004, 14:29
Considering that Roycelandia owns Kenya and Uganda (as well as the Sudan, for that matter), we are taking a rather dim view of the Military "benefits" of this Canal, but are assuming it's taking place in an Alternate Earth...

OOC: Why would you want to attack Kenya or Uganda? There's not a lot of strategic value there IRL...
Ramissle
26-10-2004, 14:52
OOC: You don't own Sudan. Chellis did before me, on RL Earth 1, and that was as a buffer. And the point about the militiary usage was just cause I couldn't think of anything besides it's benifits for me. It is really just for economics and faster travel.

4/20 complete.

Was that old monies?*20 for inflation and multiply by distance for cost i.e. say 40 panama canals could fit in nile + add number of forts/ports etcgets a total cost.plus it would probably be over budget.

OOC: Yes, that was very old money, around 1910. The total cost in relation to the panama canal without the artificial harbors would be about 1,920,000,000. Yes, we are over budget, but we will simply decrease the time frame.
