TIMIOCATO (PPA) -- The Government of Pacitalia, Government of the Capital Region, and City and Metropolitan Environ of Timiocato have officially launched a bid to host the 2012 NationStates Olympics in Pacitalia's capital.
The city of 21 million, with its immense transportation grid, many facilities, amazing volunteer spirit, friendly attitude, lust for sports, and clean environment "is a perfect choice for the national candidate," Prime Minister Timothy Ell said today at the official bid press conference.
The bid committee outlined its master plan for 2012, including the construction of a main stadium for opening ceremonies, track and field and closing ceremonies; fourteen other venues for swimming and water sports, fencing, handball, boxing, weightlifting, wrestling, judo, floor hockey and rowing, fields for baseball and Euro football, tracks for mountain biking and cycling, ranges for shooting and archery, courts for basketball, tennis, table tennis and volleyball, and waterways for canoeing, kayaking, rowing and sculling. An open sea already exists for sailing and the pentathlon and triathlon. As well, it outlined plans for the International Broadcast Centre, Olympic Village and Olympic HQ.
The bid committee also tied in the 2012 Olympics with Transportation Directive 2025, a project intended to greatly improve on Timiocato's already-superb transpogrid with the construction of more light-rail and rapid transit centers, a new transportation nerve centre, more freeways and better access to key parts of the city like downtown, the border crossing into Anubisyrria, and the Government Grounds. Two immense international airports and an international-industrial airport already serve Timiocato and are easily accessible from even the very heart of the city.
Asked whether overcrowding will be a hazard for the Olympic Games, Bid Committee President Pandati Rossario-Penta denounced it. "Timiocato is very spread out. It's almost 100 km from [Timiocato Santo Ragazzo] Airport to downtown. We hardly have any problems with gridlock or overcrowding ever because our transpogrid has been upgraded so many times to counterattack any of those problems. Our public transit system is second to none, which helps take the strain off our sixteen freeways."
Rossario-Penta says Timiocato's spirit for the Games and hosting events is so great that "if [we] won the bid today, construction would start tomorrow".
The Bid Book will be delivered to IOC headquarters next week.
