"In military tech news this evening, the XPD-101 Extremely Long Range Surface/Land to Air Missile, soon to be known as the "SA-101 ELRSLAM" completed the third and final test, destroying a target balloon at a record 63,000 feet. The maximum range of the missile is reported to be 65,000+ feet, making it the longest ranged missile (other than the ALMV/ASAT missile) of the arsenal. Surprisingly, it preforms well from 1,000 feet and higher, allowing it to provide full theater defense. Most long range SAMs do not function well at lower altitudes. The ELRSLAM uses an active radar system, but can be controlled by passive radar as well. The last 20-35 seconds of its flight, a FLIR system takes over to secure a hit. Although it is a hit-to-kil type missile, it can fragment in near range of the target if set to do so remotley, the setting can be changed in flight. In sports news....."
diameter: 1 foot
height: 15.5 feet
engines: two stage
guidance: active/passive radar, FLIR
unitcost: $80,000
speed: classified, estimated high supersonic ((mach 4 plus))
altitude: classified, estimated well over 60,000+ ft
max range: (diameter) 70 miles
