OOC: Is it too early?

I'm wanting to build a space platform for my space operations, and I estimate one section a year with each section being about $5 billion, total of ten years. That is just the basic structure, with all of the fancy stuff for later.

But, is it too early to attempt it? My nation has a population of 14 million.

you mean 14 million?

Yes. Didn't notice the typo till just now.

With such a small nation it may be something of a folly. However, if you were to state your intrest in such a project and ask for foriegn donations I'm sure you'd be able to cover it.

Your yearly budget is $80,014,961,250.00 (80+ billon $)

If you tranfer funds from some places to this project youu can easily afford it, but many areas of your government would suffer.

Or you coudl wait until a certain issue comes around and you can then get pepsi (or Barrs in my case) to sponsor your space projects...

The moderators have stated repeatedly:

If you can RP it, you can have it. There are no "time" based limitations on any nation sanctioned by the moderators.

I'm looking at this from a realistic standpoint. I could RP a lot of things, but can I do it realistically?

I can't rely on my only true ally so far. His budget is a fraction of mine and most of his is spent.

Also, one other thing I am looking at is my nation will be pretty much the one paying the bills once it's built. And that doesn't even include any structures built on it.

If you were to join the Galactic Republic alliance, you would recieve financial backing and support. Would you like to join?

I'd reccomend that you start by developing an indigenous satellite launch capability, then do a few manned missions (Project Gemini style), then launch a Skylab\Salyut type station, then after about five to ten years of operating that build a Mir\ISS\Space Station Freedom type modular station.
Learn to walk before you can run, as the saying goes. There are lots of skills you will need to develop before you can operate a space station, most notably rendezvous (docking) and EVA (space walks), not to mention you'll need to develop a ground based infrastructure (something along the lines of Kennedy Space Center, or Baikonur). All of which takes time.

Those steps would be nice, except the planet whose orbit I am planning to put the space flatform in is about 16 FTL jumps away and it'll be about 20 years before the planet if colonized enough to be able to support such a setup.

I'm future tech, so space walking and astronauts are not a problem.

Guess what? Its your lucky day. Today, a donation fund of 850 Billion USD has been raised from the Hogsweatian Space Union and has been wired to the Tiamat government to help pay for their space station.

Happy spacing!

If you're Future Tech, then don't even worry about it. FT nations are just assumed to have space capabilities without even having to explain how they got them.

The nation of Tiamat Taveril thanks the nation of Hogsweat for the more than extremely generous donation. All of it has been earmarked for the construction and maintainence (sp?) of the orbital platform. Once again, I thank you.
