This is debated a lot on II

some people have fleets of very large ships. As a rule of thumb, if you take the cost as being equal to a naval ship of the same displacement and them multiply by somewhere between 1.5 and 3 depending on the size and tech level (ie a large ship will get more tonnage per $ and low tech will be cheaper too)

There is no set rule but this one will mean you have one of the more sensible/less oversized fleets in NS FT.

And 15Km is a HUGE ships. Some nations have a few this bug.
5Km is actually still bigger than most nations largest ships
1Km is big but easily dwarfed by some nation's vessel ships
500m is pretty small, the most capital but not super capital ships tend to be of this size
100m or less is a small agile vessel

This is only in comparison to other nations. This is nopt the most realsistic method, but its worth assuming space travel would get cheaper as technology advances.

You spelt it Wrong, it's Fleet,
I could sell you the Pelican for 15,000 and the Piller Of Autum for 5,000,000,000

I could also throw in about 15 Warthogs and Scorpions in for about 15,000 each vehicle!

Hehe, I love picky spellers.

'tis 'Pillar', not 'Piller', and 'Autumn', not 'Autum'.

:p

The only comprehensive space ship editor i know and have used is HM:aero but it only designs vessels for use with battle tech universe which msot will admit gets totally owned by just about any other sci fi universe...

The pilar of Autum would cost trillions in the early 21st century
A warthog for 15k maybe but not a heavy tank, and Aerospace transport for the same price. Buy a brain bro.

The old roleplaying game Traveller had excellent rules for starship design and even had a special scenario called Trillion Credit Squadron for designing fleets.

In that game, you had a planet (usually but sometimes more) and you got a build budget based on government type and population level with different budgets for peace and war. It was a great system. Its also really old, dating back to the early 1980s and really hard to find.

but worth it if you can.

My suggestion would be to use D20 Rules for the Star Wars universe, or maybe the various Star Trek roleplaying games.

But if you can't find those, or don't have the $30 to spend on just one book (of the many possibly needed), I would take some of the advice above

although there might be freebies out there in the web, I know D20 3.5 Edition Dungeons and Dragons for example has most of the rules available through the Open Gaming Foundation
