THE D-15 STORMFORCE

History

Porosz Corporation has realized its lack of emphasis on the rugged, but relatively lighter types of main battle tanks. Porosz has dedicated its resources to designing and manufacturing heavy (MBTs), as well as Ultra-Heavy (UMBTs) tracked vehicles ever since its creation.

After the GMB DoD ordered Porosz to produce of a light, powerful, and easily deployable tank, Porosz was forced to alter its original plans, and the design team finally settled on what was dubbed the D-15 MBT, commonly referred to as the StormForce.

The Stormforce is a more powerful, more reliable, and definately more practical tank than the current variation that serves as the backbone of the GMB Army, the D-11 Apocalypse. Although it has undergone several refurbisments, the D-11 Apocalypse has several serious defects, notable of which are its immense weight, as well as its inadequate 125mm main guns that are seriously outdated.

The D-15 MBT will soon phase out the Apocalypse tank as the army's Main Battle Tank. In twelve years's time, the D-11 Apocalypse shall retire, and the D-15 will become the Army's main tank.

Well, I'll give you this it makes a nice change from 'Super Duper Uber Mega Nuclear Tanks' :) Much more realistic tank all round, only you forgot to mention what it's average cross country speed is. Probably around 50-55 mph I should think (suggustion).

Also perhaps the weapons are bit over-killish...well the missle launcher is... also it's not overly practical...since it's not going to be able to hit much located where it is. Whats an extreme detonation missle btw or should I say whats the difference between said missles detonation and a more standard missile?

Thanks, I appreciate it :)

The 140 mm smoothbore gun was a necessity. I agree that the weapon is very large, very heavy, and is part of the reason the tank's 1200hp engine doesn't perform very well. (Tank is relatively inefficient considering its low mass).. But in order for the StormForce to compete with the big boys (and be practical while doing so), one of the heaviest guns I have ever designed has been fitted onto it.

Co-ax/AA gun/Mortar are fine, I don't think they're god-moddish. They are simple yet effective weapons that have been incorporated in modern day tank designs.

I have strived to incorporate the BuckDart missile launcher system in every tank I produce. It's the only cost-effective, efficient, and practical anti-helicopter and anti-aircraft system a tank may have.

The location of the BuckDart system varies from tank to tank. On this tank, you can see it's attached to the main turret complex, (much like the RL Bradley Linebacker's TOW system), except it is an appendage, it is not attached to the turret.

Are they going to be able to hit much? Theoretically, they would be very effective against armor at a great distance. Considering it is a fire and forget missile, much like an RPG or a Mistral except bigger, I believe it would also be able to attack and down Apaches and other cavalry-support helicopters.

Of course it will not be effective against planes, but still.. it is necessary to overcome threats from helicopters which traditionally, a tank cannot handle very well. Also, please note that this tank uses ERA, so infantry units cannot crowd around it with their RPGs and rifles.. The BuckDart (and the AA gun) are the only anti-air defense.

Extreme Detonation Short-Range Missiles (EDSRMs - the bigger tanks are fitted with HELMs instead: High-Explosive Long-Range Missiles) are basically the new generation of TOW missiles that haven't entered service with the US Army in RL yet.. (They should in '05). An excerpt from fas.org on the enhanced TOW (Porosz's EDSRMs):

The next generation heavy antitank missile that will replace the current TOW series missiles. It is employed either mounted or dismounted from the TOW launcher. Tactical employment will remain the same as the current TOW with adjustments made for TOW F&F’s characteristics. TOW F&F’s primary mode of target engagement is fire-and-forget. It will have a secondary mode of attack that together with the fire-and-forget mode will enable the operator to hit any target acquired within range of the missile. First unit equipped is FY05 pending future funding of the program.

I hope that answers your questions.. Thanks again. :)
