Announcement from Lasatanian State Defence Industries:

Seeking to develop a replacement for its MiG-25 and MiG-31 squadrons, the Lasatanian Air Force has instructed LSDI to develop a next generation long-range fighter providing unsurpassed look-down shoot-down capability, combined with some of the best performance in its class.

To meet these requirements, LSDI commenced work on the LAS-XF4 'Flytrap', a long-range multi-role fighter capable of Mach 2.8+ and utilising the SBI-16 Zaslon fixed phased array antenna radar, codenamed 'Flash Dance' by NATO, which is said to be the world's most powerful fighter radar. A powerful onboard computer system and a radar with a phased array which will allow the pilot to simultaneously activate the air-to-air and air-to-surface missile fire modes. When working with air targets, the LAS-XF4 is capable of intercepting up to 24 targets simultaneously.

Final testing of the aircraft is expected to take place within the next six months and export orders will be taken. Due to the high level of radar and avionics technology, the unit price for this aircraft is likely to be in the region of $100-$120M.

Full technical specifications will be released at a later point in time.

OOC: I should have the specs in place in a couple of days time, basically its based on a prototype being developed by MiG to replace the MiG31M, only thing being is that this thing looks a lot bigger so the dimensions are going to be a bit of a bugger to figure out!

OOC: I'm looking at an operation range of about 2,000km and speeds at about 2.8 Mach... thing is, its gonna be huge.. weighing about 30 tonnes (10 more than the MiG-25...) so It'll be a kind of modern day version of the fiddler, with a lot better tech..

(OOC: Out of curiosity...what'll the weapons loadput be...number of hardpoints and whatnot. Though that makes me also want to ask and maybe suggest if you're not doing so to design a long range missile to go on this beast.)

OOC: Good point... I'll need to do some research on that...

The thing is, by employing the 'Flash Dance' radar array, the plane can act as a mini-AWACS.. and I suppose it would be feasible to up the amount of targets it can track to at least 30.. I was thinking of using an internal bay for missiles, up to eight say.. but I'm not 100% of the actual current tech on that.

I'll have a look at Soviet missile tech over the next few days and come up with something.. esp since I base most my stuff on Soviet stuff and improve it...

Further technical details released for LAS-XF4 'Flytrap'

Following a delay in testing on the aircraft while suitable avionics and weapons systems were appropriated, LSDI is pleased to announce the resumption of full scale testing.

This has gone ahead thanks to the completion of development of the LAS-AAMX2 'Aurora' advanced medium range air to air missile.

LAS-AAMX2 'Aurora' AMRAAM

The new LAS-AAMX2 'Aurora' AMRAAM is a specially-designed AAM for use in the LAS-XF4 'Flytrap'. The missile's guidance systems allow for both active and passive guidance, with the pilot able to change and track targets up to 2 seconds prior to impact. With a built in IFF system, the LAS-AAMX2 can be used in close combat situations with safety.

Due to the design of the LAS-XF4, the missile is dropped from the planes internal bay and activates its rocket stage approximately 0.5 seconds after launch.

The LAS-AAMX2 missile has an active radar finder and a maximum range of 90-100 kilometers (50 km more than AMRAAM) and flies at four times the speed of sound.

The LAS-AAMX2has rectangular narrow span wings and a distinctive set of four rectangular control surfaces at the rear. These unique control surfaces feature reduced flow separation at high angles of attack, producing greater aerodynamic moment force than conventional control surfaces. The missile's guidance is inertial with mid-course updates from the launch aircraft, followed by a terminal active radar phase from an acquisition range of about 20 kilometers

Specifications:

Length 4.20 m
Body diameter 300 mm
Wingspan 0.50 m
Launch weight 250 kg
Warhead 50 kg HE fragmentation
Fuze: Active radar/laser
Guidance: Inertial, command and active radar
Propulsion: Solid propellant
Range: 75 km

LAS-XF4 'Flytrap' - Weapons system notes

Due to the mission specific nature of this aircraft, designers at LSDI have decided to install a weapons bay system for storage of weapons on this aircraft. Bay capacity shall be equal to nine LAS-AAMX2 missiles. The missiles are held in units of three and the bay doors are of a sliding format, allowing for minimal disruption to the aircraft's radar signature.

Full testing of the aircraft is expected to be finished in two months, when exact specifications shall be published.
