Ungerstod Dictator Refuses Offers of Aid
From Anthony Crudella
CNN, WZ Region Bureau

The Red Cross have gone public with their fears for the population of the tiny nation of Ungerstod in the WZ Region. News is filtering through of crippling food shortages and increasing civil unrest. Only recently recognised as a nation, Ungertod's 6 million people are believed to be on the brink of starvation.

Jennifer McCormack, a spokes person for the Red Cross, today expressed her horror at the news that yet another offer of aid was being rejected by the regime controlling the nation. "It defies belief that a leader would allow his own people to die rather than accept even a small amount of help". She described the situation as "grave" and held little hope for any improvement in the short term. This is just another incident that has marred the birth of the Island nation. just two weeks ago, a plane containing food and medical supplies from neighbouring People's Republic of Keyaa was denied permission to land.

Ungerstod has had a less than idealic inception. The chronic food shortages, and lack of qualified doctors and nurses has Ungerstod placed in the lowest 5% of the world in infant mortality rates. The Red Cross has made it clear that it intends to speak to the leading nations in the WZ Region, in an attempt to have diplomatic sanctions placed on Ungerstod. Human Rights groups have been openly dismayed at the admission of Ungerstod into the United Nations. Normano Gongodor, the exiled head of Ungertod's only opposition party last week described the admission as "perplexing" and as "a worrying sign". He has pointed to the regimes human rights record as proof that Ungerstod should not be given any legitimacy under the current ruler. Few see bright days ahead for the young nation, as it seemingly lurches from one disaster to the next.
