This was it.. the moment they had been waiting for. In a smoke filled room, deep within Lasatanian Central Command six of the highest ranking officers in Lasatania met..
They were; Marshal Ilyanet, chief of staff, a hardened veteran of the last civil war and a devout Party man; General Hertzfeld, commander of the Fourth Army and an officer reknowned for his ruthlessness; Admiral Karlakov, Commander of the Home Fleet and no friend to the New State; Marshal Tulovet, Commander of the LAF, who at the age of sixty had little to lose now; General Prokayev, commander of the Barrage Army, reknowned for his cruelty and finally, Marshal Zenet, head of the Army Special Office, effectively one of the most powerful men in Lasatania, though someone who had found his power somewhat curtailed by the new regime.
Ilyanet spoke first:
"Gentlemen, it appears that the hour is upon us. The state (he almost spat out the word.) is in a quandry. They know that there is bound to be a rebellion whilst it remains without a leader and they actually have the lack of sense to rely on us to provide them with security.. pah..."
"Indeed Marshal..", interjected Zenet "...indeed. But we must think fast as to how best to make use of our resources and get rid of the state apparatus.."
"Then what?" shouted Prokayev "We leave the nation open to all kinds of factions, seeking to introduce their political ideas? Leading the people astray.."
"Indeed," replied Zenet, "And that is what we want.. for a while at least.. We fail to respond to the 'terrorist attacks' and when the State Security Service is on its last legs, we step in for the kill.."
"Good," replied Tulovet, "So who do we have carry out this 'terror' campaign?"
Zenet replied, "Either we let certain factions gain strength and allow them to begin their own campaigns, or we give them a helping hand.."
To which Prokayev responded, "And when to we begin?"
Smirking, Zenet replied, "The State Funeral..."
And with that the men began to formulate more detailed plans regarding their taking of power. Lasatania was about to change... again..
