The admiral sat back in his heated, leather chair in the bridge. He lit a cigar and starred aimlessly at the sea for several minutes. "How the hell long is this blockade gonna sit out their and do nothing? The damn kids running that fleet must be to petrified to move from all the ships that came to blow them out of the water. If they do not disperse the blockade by 24 hours from now, we will open fire to reopen TIOR to the world again. They have had enough time and warnings. They will suffer the fury from the The Island of Rose and all her mighty brothers-in-arms." He got a small paper and wrote on it and handed it to a man sitting not to far away from him. "Cpt, if the ships are not gone in 24 hours, I order you to unleash the dogs of war. At the first break of the blockade, send the marines and tank landing crafts to TIOR. All 50,000 men, 500 X1a2 Achilles, and the Stryker PU1 varients. I don't want one live Artican touch a blade of Rosan grass. I am going to bed, i've been up for almost 30 hours. Cpt, I now relinguish command to you. If any news arises, awaken me at once. Strength, Honor, and the glory of Nycton." The Admiral stood up and stretched, put out his cigar and walked out, followed by his 2 body guards.

Sergei tapped his fingers on the desk, methodically and slowly. He was irritated, the Articans have not moved. He cringed, was irritated, he had allies with hundreds of ships and still they would not move. He was sick of this. Well no more. He pressed the button. Now what was the button? The button basically was a simple way of saying attack. And now, it begins, the liberation of the Island begins.

The coastal artillery was first to act. All over the Island, MLRS systems and Howitzers roared on as they pounded the boats. Woosh! Woosh! Woosh! said the rocket. A hellish rain went upon the Artican boats, there were so many shells, at least every boat had to be hit once. And of course, this was just the beggining, it was just the beggining.

Next to do the move were the fleets. Iowa battlships turned their turrets at the blockading fleet. Boom! Boom! Boom! said the cannons. But it was not over, oh no. RB-1s and RF-1s began taking off from all the various carriers, about 300 carrier planes were in the air, and that wasn't even all they had. The RB-1s started dropping bombs on the ships, specifically the battleships and destroyers. The RF-1s commited strafing runs on the carriers. But of course most of the RF-1s were commited to protecting the bombers.

The third step, the land air bases. Now, the air force was cut in half, but that doesn't mean it was any less efficient. RF-1s and RB-1s took off, joining in the slaughter. The land based planes bombed even more ships, but that wasn't their role. There were about 100 from the land bases.

RAH-1s and ROH-1s were being loaded up. The RAH-1 was basically a Hind, the ROH-1 a Blackhawk. The RAH-1s began assualting the various boats with their missles and heavy cannon, something rare to see in a sea battle, but that wasn't the strange part. The ROH-1s started flying towards the enemy escort ships with the mission for landing on them. They flew over, hoping that they wouldn't be hit...

And so it began...

Official Statement from The Proletariat Commonwealth of The Island of Rose:

Imperial Articas, your blockade will now be broken. We are tired of you infringing on our rights. You are being attacked from all sides. You cannot last. Allies, aid us! Bomb them, destroy them! We will not be moved! Agh! Motherland! Drink and be merry for today you die!
-President Sergei Ilyanov of The Island of Rose

((OOC: Basically, I attacked you first with coastal artillery, then I stopped. Now I'm attacking you with planes and ships, at the same time. I am also trying to board your ships as to fire on your own ships. You need to at least lose 2/3 of your blockade. Because basically I am attacking your blockade from all sides and I'm bombing every ship.))

With the attack begining the Halladi helicopters pulled away from the Artican fleet. All of the ships began firing, and the submarines targeted the largest ships and fired. The Kirovs alone fired over 1,000 missiles. Once the ammunition was out, the Su-27K's and Su-39K's took off to engage what was keft of the fleet.

"You destroyed two supply ships and a frigate."
I don't think he will but you never know. I think the casualties will be on the high side. With all the firepower you have directed at those fleets they should be destroyed shortly.

Admiral Jacobson was ready when the order to fire came.

"Fleet General Quarters!" he ordered. "Execute attack plan alpha Sierra."

On his order, the 18 big 30" guns trained to the enemy fleet and fired. The other Guillen class vessel in the IDF fleet did the same in another location. Each ship fired a salvo every 50 seconds at the enemy.

On the TIOR airbases, the F-14Ds loaded with 4 AIM-54F Phoenixs and 2 AIM-9X Sidewinders along with 2 Harpoons each took off. They were under guidance of Aegis ships and E-767 controllers along with ground radars. At 100 nautical miles from a target, the F-14s would fire a Phoenix at it. They did this as they continued to fly towards the blockade. When they got within 125 nm from the enemy ships, they fired their 2 Harpoons and turned to engage more fighters as it became neccesary.

108 of the Tu-22U Backfires lifted off carrying 6 large AS-4 missiles. At 275 miles from the enemy ships, they loosed their loads off. Their primary targets were capital ships, although lighter ships were targeted.

The F/A-18C Hornets took off carrying 2 AIM-120C AMRAAMs, 2 AIM-9X Sidewinders, 2 AGM-88 HARMs, and 2 Harpoons. They targeted fighters under the direction of the controllers in the air and on the ground. When they approached the fleet, they launched Harpoons. The Hornets flew low as they had to go in close to fire their HARMs at ships to kill their RADARs. They did so when they came into range, but half of the Hornets were lost in the process. Only 1/3 of the pilots who were shot down lived. It was to be expected with low level flights over water, especially when being fired on.

Back on the sea side of the IDF operation, the 12 smaller Netanyahu medium dreadnoughts moved into range for their 15 24 in ETC guns. At 175 miles, they began to fire their salvos at a rate of one every 40 seconds.

The 11 Cherokee class aresnal cruisers fired a total of 4,800 TASMs over a period of 3 hours at the enemy fleet. The large cruise missiles went for their targets at a range of 400 miles. They had a speed of 525 knots and 1,000 lb warheads.

The 14 smaller Imperators launched 2,350 TASMs at the enemy fleet in a similar fashion.

The Ohio SSGNs weren't planeed to attack any time soon, and lighter combatants stood by for defensive duty with SM-3 missiles standing by to protect their larger ships they were assigned to escort.

The SSNs had a job to attack submarines. The Halibut was tracking 3 of them at a range of 25,000 yards. The TB-32 and BQQ-20 SONAR system were feeding info into the BSY-1 Fire Control Computer. Rickover's sub was able to have a good fire control solution, but he had to move into a range of 22,000 yards before he could be certain his Mk-48 ADCAPs could hit them. He had 2 fish assigned to each sub, which were given MASTER designations of 20-22.

12 688i SSNs fired a total of 144 TASMs at the frigates and destroyers that were near. They then quickly dove to a safer depth while awaiting to fire Harpoons and Mk-48s.
IDF
18-10-2004, 00:16
The IDF carrier fleets put up a total of 1,200 F-35Cs armed with 2 AMRAAMS, 2 Sidewinders, and 4 Harpoons each, they weren't moving into attack yet, but were ordered to attack ships not killed by the primary attack. As a result, they moved to within 300 miles of the enemy ships and awaited tasking. They worked under guidance of Aegis ships and E-2Cs to attack any enemy fighters that may head for the IDF or allied fleets.
Wirraway
18-10-2004, 00:19
Captain Horowitz was an anomaly in the Wirrawayan navy, simply because he was a jew. Although the Armed Forces did not discriminate on the basis of ethnic background or religion, the fact that Wirraway had a tiny Jewish population coupled with a very low enlistment rate made Horowitz one of only 4 Jews currently serving in the vast Wirrawayan navy, and currently he was the highest ranking Jew ever to serve in the Navy.

It had been a hard trip just to get to this rank, the ethnic slurs, the beatings, the humilation in front of his fellow cadets, but he had persevered, graduating top of his class. Apparently there were some in High Command who couldn't stomach the propsect of a jew breaking into their club, so instead of allowing him the choose his posting, as was customary for the 1 student in the Naval Academy, they banished him off to the Merchant Marine where he had been stcuk ever since. Even in the Merchant marine it had been hard for him and he had only gotten his own ship after being passed up for promotion 4 times, with obviously inferior officers getting the job instead of him.

But finnaly he had gotten his own ship, the Beira, named after the captial of Mozambique, unfortunatly for him it was one of the oldest ships in the fleet and now was creaking and bucking as it fought the high swells around TIOR. It had one archaic crew manned 5 inch gun as its armarment.

Well at least it has some armarment he thought absent mindedly, his full attention on keep his violently rolling ship in formation.

Suddenly the bridge door opened and Generian officer walked in obviously looking for the captain. Horowitz approached him and answered his query,

"Well, were waiting right now to see what Imperial Articas does, If they decided to withdraw we can waltz right in, but if they refuse well then we've got a fight on our hands."

Which unfortunatly I can't join...

---Aboard the HNS Westlyn, Flagship, 17th Combined Fleet---

"That's when I said: I thought he was your sisten." the Flag Bridge erupted in laughter. Whether they thought the joke was funny or not wasn't the question, it was a well known "fact" that subordinates who didn't laugh at Fleet Vice Admiral Stephen Neilsen quickly found themselves stationed at some artic missile oberservation post.

---------------------

The 17th Combined Fleet, three hundred and four warships and supply vessels of the Royal Navy, was slowly making its way to TIOR. The Foreign and Defense Ministries issued their ultimatiums, the 17th Combined Fleet was to act as the teeth. No one really expected a shot to be fired, the Articans surely wouldn't try to go against so many different nations. It was Fleet Vice Admiral Neilsen's belief that the 17th CF would steam toward TIOR, the Articans would be spooked, and then he could give all of his sailors shoreleave.

Admiral Neilsen didn't prepare the Fleet for immediate action, the carriers were at the rear, the submarines were performing long range picket duty, the destroyers and frigates took up the lead, and his flagship the Gettysburg Class BBGN HNS Westlyn was near the absolute rear of the CF. The only ships he had on "Immediate Combat Readiness" were two new 'Interdiction Task Forces'. Most of the ships in the new ITFs hadn't been used in battle before. There crews were mostly green and Naval High Command hadn't quite figured out the best way to deploy them in Fleet Actions. Now they would face the test of fire.

---------------------

Admiral Neilsen and his staff were preparing for their hourly briefing when an alert klaxson sounded. The Westlyn's CO, Commodore Fitzpatrick, made an announcement of the ShipCom system.

"All hands report to Battle Stations, repeat, All hands report to Battle Stations. Condition Yellow, repeat, Condition Yellow."

"What the hell is going on?" Neilsen yelled over the sirens.

"Admiral," a young communication officer replied, "we've just received a message from the 9th Interdiction Task Force: The Rosians have engaged the enemy."

Grabbing the young man by the collar Lieutenant Admiral Joshua Elenridge, Admiral-in-Charge of the 17th CF's Battleships, began to yell "You must be mistaken. CHECK THE MESSAGE AGAIN!"

The other Admirals in the room began to scurry about trying to get some answers. Just when the room felt like it would explode in confusion, Admiral Neilsen picked up a headset and listened to the broadcasts from the 9th ITF. After a few seconds he took the headset off and pounded his fist on a nearby table to gain the attent of his fellow Admirals.

"Fifteen mintues ago, coastal bombardment units began the attack aganist the Blockading forces. Rosians fleets, airplanes, and several as of yet unidentified allied craft are taking part in the attack.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a battle."

The room fell silent. None of the Admirals actually thought it would come to this. The main body of the 17th Combined Fleet was more than 1000 miles away from the action, even the most advanced units of the CF were more than 500 miles away. The only ships within 200 miles were the two new Interdiction Task Forces.

Admiral Neilsen began to speak after the very long and awkward silence, "Alright, we have a ball game now we just need to show up. Vice Admiral Yates, order the entire Fleet to increase speed to maximum cruise. I want our subs set up to mop up retreating enemy units...get our jets into the air...ready missiles." he began to issue orders, dozens upon dozens of orders. It was doubtful that the main body of the CF could participate in the attack, but the two ITFs were primed for battle.

--Aboard the HNS Lucifer, Flagship 9th Interdiction Task Force--

The Lucifer was one of thirteen newly built Olympia Class CBs. She was designed specifically for blockade operations. Her captain, Captain William Scott was something of a mavrick. He was overambitious, arrogant, cocky, and pompous he was assigned to the Lucifer as a sort of punishment. Blockade duty wasn't the reason men and women joined the Royal Navy, it was unglamourous and boring. This time, however, the ITFs would play a large part in an important battle.

On the bridge of the Lucifer, Commander Scott surveyed his Task Force. The nine ships of the 9th ITF were soon to be joined, en route to the action, by the warships of the 10th ITF. He wanted to get in the action as soon as possible. Unit his ships could close distance he could only engage the enemy with a handful of carrier jets and the long range missiles from his guided missile destroyers.

"Lieutenant, what's our distance?" Cmdr. Scott said while signing several orders.

The lieutenant responded: "Sir, we are 185 nautical miles from the enemy and closing at 18 knots."

"Helm, increase speed to full. Inform the rest of the ships...oh, and inform the 10th ITF that'll have to increase to flanking speed in order to rendeavous with us."

On board the Merchant vessel Cowboy
"sonnofabitch" said the captain "We're just delivering a load of Nissan autos and all hell has broken loose. Sparks, send a communication, 'we're coming in with a load of freight.' Get docking instructions and go straight to the port. Fly a white flag, but ignore orders to stop unless they come from TIOR itself."

On board the sub Queenie

"Captain" said the XO "Everyone worthy of note has attacked the blockade"

"Good damn deal" said the captain. "What's our status?"

"Awaiting orders from your sir"

"OK, here we go. single out an Articus carrier and sink it!"

"Yes sir!" said the XO, obviously pleased with his orders.

The Queenie took a hard left, made full speed (28 knots) towards the Articus carrier and from less than 500 yards sent 10 torpedoes away. The tubes were instantly reloaded and in less than 2 minutes, another 10 torpedeos were fired. The sub then submerged to maximum depth, entered stealth running mode and did what it's crew knew to do to avoid detection.

The admiral opened his eyes, the ship shook furiously with a deafening bang. A bodyguard from the outside opened his corridor door. "It has begun." The three men rushed up the the bridge, every couple moments another barrage from the main 32" Electro-Thermal Turrets fired one after another. They all could not fire at the same time, the force of the blast would push the ship onto it's side. The admiral entered and the bridge came to attention "Carry on!" he explaimed as he approached the Cpt. "How many missles have been fired?" the Cpt responded "The Inferno-Class Guided-Missile Battlecruiser has launched over 900 alone sir. We estimate over 3,600 anti-ship missiles fired. 1,200 FGA fighters have been launched, landing refueling and rearming and taking off again. Thousands of of missiles have been launched by air. The turrets have just begun firing though. This-"a loud bang as straight down the line from the front of the ship to the back the main turrets fired 1 by one. With every 3 shots it felt like the ship was almost going to fall on it's side, but it did not. "As I was about to say, that I was the 360th round fired. The other ships in the fleet have just begun to fire their main turrets. The landing crafts are in the water and being organized to push through the hole we have just cleared. There are no confirmed losses, 2 men missing. 2 F-96's went down at the very start of the attack." The Admiral looked pleased with his superior navy. He sat back his chair and lit another cigar. "Call Imperial Military Command, report to them to move in to bombard the port at Articus. "Aye aye, Admiral."

The Halibut was at a depth of 800 feet. It was 2100 when her CO got the WAR message on the ELF.

"Man battlestations torpedo," ordered Rickover.

"Battlestations!" yelled Lt. Cmd. Hunter Hillenmeyer, the XO.

"General Quarters! General Quarters! All hands man your battlestations!" called Master Chief Scott Oreza, the COB.

"SONAR, what's the position on masters 20, 21, and 22?" asked Rickover.

"They are steady at bearings 275, 310, and 318. They are at ranges from 20K yards to 22K yards," answered Chief John O'Leary, the head of the SONAR department.

"Fire control," called Rickover. "How are the solutions sets?"

"The BSY-1 has good firing solutions for the three enemy subs," called the XO, who was also the fire control coordinator.

"I want tubes 1 and 2 for master 20, 3 and 4 for 21, and 5 and 6 for master 22," ordered Rickover. "Torpedo room, ready tubes 1-6 in all aspects including opening the outer doors." 5 minutes later, the tubes were ready. "Match SONAR bearings and shoot tubes 1 and 2 for Master 20." The order was repeated for the other two enemy subs being targeted. The sub shook as the preassurized gas sent the torpedoes out of the tubes.

The MK-48 ADCAP torpedoes had a range of 20K-22K yards to run. Or about 12-12.5 miles. Running time was to range from 17-19 minutes to as long as 24. The torpedoes were being wire guided from fire control to make sure they hit their targets. They were running on passive now at a low speed of 48 knots, when the torpedoes were detected, they'd speed up to more than 80 knots and use active SONAR towards their targets as they homed in. Countermeasures would be little use against these as the controllers of the torps would steer them around them and make sure the torpedoes didn't read them as the actual target sub.

Admiral Kazansky sat in his chair on the bridge. He chewed tentatively on a Kaze (ooc:a small roll of edible bark from the Taldaani Brushtree, eaten as snackfood in Taldaan) as he watched the action unfold. The Imperial Artican fleet was really taking a beating out there. He swallowed the mouthful, turning towards the communications bank. He flicked the switch, then began to give his orders.
"All ships, immediately fire upon enemy fleet. Use Granit missiles if you have them, otherwise use other types. Now, engage at will. Aircraft carriers, get your aircraft in the air."

*******************************************************
There was a rumbling crash as the guns fired. The 16" guns on the Pacifica fired in concert on the nearest enemy capital ship, attempting to punch holes in the sides. Meanwhile, VLS systems were launching Granits at any enemy target within range. Around 1500 missiles were in the air now, flying like silver arrows across the calm sea.
High in the air, three Taldaani B-2s silently drifted across the sky. Confident of being out of range of most enemies, they were raining bombs down on the enemy fleet. Or at least two of them were. The third one was carrying an underslung "Fleet Buster", a caesium bomb (ooc: reacts with water, and explodes) which took up nearly all of it's payload. There was a descending whoosh as the bomb plummeted towards the water. It hit the water hard, then with an echoing roar, as if the gods themselves were beating war drums, it exploded.
