AoN Mobilizes, war is at hand. ATTN ESUS. (Future tech RP, semi-open)

Act One: Past to Present and a New Future.

It had been years since the last major AoN dealings with the ESUS. An uneasy peace had settled accross the galaxy. Even during the times of peace, Gronde upheld a firm military discipline and, along with her strong allies, continued to lead the AoN. While elsewhere, the quite peace was shattered by wars involving Coreworlds, Unified Sith, and Gronde's neighbor, ally, and enemy Corpsac. These wars were of little concern to the AoN, but Gronde did not hesitate to grab more territory during the chaos. The strength of Gronde increased, as did the AoN. However, the power growth of the AoN seemed to go unnoticed. Gronde continued imperialistic military actions against Ork and 'Nid controlled systems, Gronde's economy was quite dependant on war to function. Billions of new slaves were captured by the various AoN nations in the most recent crusades. The forges would continue to churn out new machines of war.

Thus, a meeting was called to gather the leaders of the AoN together. The time for peace and waiting was over. The AoN was stretching the seems of its territory. There was only one power that stood in their way, the ESUS. Gronde was the first to begin mobilization. The thousands of drone Carriers and gunships were prepped for war and the navy began preliminary drills. Meanwhile, in the greatest tower of Gronde's homeworld, the leaders were called together.

ooc> Obviously, oocly you guys/gals will know what is going on. ICly, though, you wouldn't know what is going on for sure. This RP is open to the ESUS and AoN. If you are not a member of either, TG me if you wish to join the RP. I will then take it up with the ESUS RPers. The AoN will most likely have 4-5 players to controll AoN actions to prevent mass flooding. Here is the thread for large scale ooc descussions:

"Incoming commlink from Inquisitor Station Mephiston. Level 15." Said the communications director.
"Bring it onscreen." Responded Sevaris, recently appointed Chief Commander of the Swarm Battlegroups. "This is Sevaris, what matter could you possibly have that would require Level 15 codeing?"
A staticy voice responded, thousands of lightyears away. ".Large... mobil..ions...... coordina..... being se....... edg.... Gro......pace"
-Transmission ended-
"Damned temporal storms. All these groups playing with time are screwing up space. We did receive the coordinates of whatever they were trying to tell us." Said communications.
"Well, dispatch long range scouting groups the area and decode anything you can. Contact me if we regain communication with them."
"Yes Mam."

And so Shadow Tech remained still as always, unaware and unaffected by the affairs of foreign nations; but for how long?

Taren looked at the report, and cursed, "Ah shit, not again!" Taren flicked a switch, opening a com-link to the Admiral, "Is the Grand Fleet still out from that Colonization effort in the Milky Way?" "Yes sir. They've been restocked and repaired at the Keardek-0799834 Nebula station. Why are they needed?" Tarenteor chuckled, "The AoN is getting uppity again. From sensor reports, they've been mobilizing. Try to keep watch with some scout ships, and follow the movements as well as you can. Any hostile attacks, and I give you full authority to blow the shit out them." The screen cut to black.

ooc> Right, I am tired of waiting for the more lazy AoN members to post. :p I will continue.

ic> The 3rd and 4th Space Marine chapters were prepared for war. The entire 3rd chapter moved out and 3 of the 5 legions of the 4th chapter. The Warp fortress had been gathering energy from the Warp tear for several days and was ready for action. Kalgar only hoped that the enemy would not target the fortress early in the war. The Necron war prepartation was already under way. It would take at least a week before they would be ready. The project still had some minor problems, but not enough to stop their function.

The main space-port at the Gronde homesystem was alive with activity. Full military naval divisions were being prepared and armed, Mech corps and army corps were polishing their weapons and equiping themselves with the finest gear the AoN had to offer, and ships from across the AoN were filing in through the gateway. They ranged from space marine battle groups to corporate vessels and slavers eager to aid the empire in order to share in the spoils of war.

The First Die is Cast
Secret IC>
After descussion within the Gronde war council, it was decided that in order enjoy the full capabilities of the AoN war machine, a base would need to be established close to the main war front. A location was decided on; an uninhabited system barely outside the bourders of ESUS "controlled" space, but away from most regular patrolls, Cromar. It possessed little raw materials, but had one inhabitable planet. As the main imperial fleet was mobilizing, the task of creating the forward base was bestowed uppon the recently returned colonial navy. Within an hour, the Cromar system was the host to over 150 older capital ships with 100,000 veteran crewman.

ooc> Right, I have only one main rule besides "no godmodding": no instant star or planet killing weapons. They ruin RPs. If you want to bombard a planet for 30 minutes and reduce it to a burning hulk, thats one thing, but launching a nova torpedo into a star in another.

IC:

Prince Regent Jeremiah the third looked over the latest report. There had been a minor noble uprising on Jaharus III, but the VSN put it down quickly enough. The three way war between Houses Halladrim, Vernay, and Strathcona (OOC: 5 points for whoever can tell me what significance the family Strathcona has in the Canadian military) was coming near to an end. Vernay's mercenary fleet had gathered at New Macross and were preparing to jump to Satan's Star to meet with the Halladrim and Strathcona fleets that were gathered there.

Already knowing most of the domestic stuff, he skipped ahead to the foreign affairs. One was listed as a priority item, it was collection of VIS and ESUS intel reports concerning recent Gronde military movements. They were mobilizing and shifitng large numbers of troops. Due to the old hostilities between ESUS and the AoN, and especially after the last ESUS war Veredia participated in, which involved a large portion of the Veredian navy hooking up with the AoN at Manticore base, then turning their guns on their supposed allies. Vast losses were suffered, but the first shots belonged to Veredia and the size of the fleet inflicted significant casualties on the AoN, making it worth it in the end.

Jeremiah had heard stories of the battle throughout his career, and even captained a ship that had partaken in the fight. It was an old Redemption class, last Jeremiah heard, the ship had been set for the scrapyards, but converted to merc use and crippled at the battle of Harlin Junction.

Jeremiah forced himself out of his memories and back to the present. He issued a couple of orders calling for additional troops to be called up from the reserves and fleets to mobilized and new patrol patterns established. Several spyships departed towards the Gronde/ESUS boundaries. Standard procedure for whenever Gronde mobilized.

Content that the problem would pass within a few weeks when Gronde attacked yet another hapless world, Jeremiah went about his morning duties.

One problem; the superheavy armaments on my Battleplates and Superfortresses double as planet-killing weapons. An underpowered shot from one of a Battleplate's 12 superheavies destroyed CorpSac's homeworld in ~12 seconds, iirc - one of the 24 heavy guns on a Superfortress holed a 5000km across moon in about the same time, tho that requioted supercharging the weapon.

There is a reason I only have the 3 BPs, 7 SFs, and not much else to speak of, yaknow.

Tho I'll only target planets if I have a very good reason ICly; I don't have much of an army, so I couldn't invade anyway.

ooc> That would be acceptable due to the extreme nature of your ships. Firing a conventional weapon that is strong enough to take out a planet is fine.

Corpsac: pointless ooc posting is going to get you kicked out of the RP. Especially seeing as how I am on your ignore list. OOC: Okay people, since this is supposed to be an IC thread, lets get back to IC stuff shall we? And now, for a post to get us back on track...

IC:

Lieutenant Mitchell sat at one of the tactical stations aboard the VSS Usurper, an Eternal Vigilance class destroyer recently constructed at the New Macross naval yards. The ship had been assigned to the 9th line regiment and with the recent Gronde mobilizations, the regiment was assigned to border duty.

The regiment was patrolling the Alarus system, a sparsely populated system on the fringe of Veredian space. Mitchell grabbed his mug of coffee and took a drink. When he looked back down at his screens he saw large numbers of red dots appearing with warp exit signatures.

"Captain! INCOMING!" Mitchell screamed as he slammed the activation controls for the shield systems. The ML shield system came online and Mitchell went to work sorting out and prioritizing targets.

Approximately 140 ships with Gronde signatures were entering the system nearby the fleet, compared to the regiment's 108 ships.

"All hands to battlestations! I want a firing solution in 30!" the captain ordered as Mitchell, and the other tactical officers went to work on targeting and point defence.

"The forward ships have engaged sir! Kensai is out sir! I say again, VSS Kensai has been destroyed!" Mitchell reported as he began firing off centaur missiles.

Mitchell watched on his screens as his missiles joined a storm of missiles fired from other ships as they headed towards the enemy. The Gronde fleet's point defence systems and ECM negated some of the missiles but many still managed to make it through as four Gronde ships disappeared off the screens.

Also on the screen weapons fire erupted from the Gronde fleet as they concentrated on plowing through the foward ships of the regiment, taking down seven of the VSN ships.

The last of the marine commanders reported the ship was ready for boarding actions and defence posts had been established as the Usurper's engines came to life propelling the ship forward. Two Gronde frigates made for the Usurper. The Veredian and Gronde warships exchanged blows, and when Mitchell brought up displays of the two Gronde frigates, one of the ships appeared to have suffered heavy damage to its engines.

Mitchell concentrated fire on the damaged frigate's aft section, blowing through the reactor and cheering with the bridge crew as the vessel disappeared from screens.

The ship rocked as enemy weapons fire hit it, damage alarms screamed as the computer reported hull breachs along the ship's midsection and the lost of some of the armament along with one of the missile magazines.

The Usurper's fighter screen engaged with Gronde strike craft as the captain bellowed out orders to charge the Gronde frigate with all speed, then turning as it got in close and unleashing a massive broadside into the smaller, weaker Gronde vessel with promptly disappeared from the screens.

Mitchell set out looking for new targets when he saw the regiment's flagship, the Hammer of Justice succumb to nearly twenty Gronde vessels. The tattered remnants of the first battalion that had joined with the Hammer in its final stand were quickly dispatched.

Warning sirens went off at Mitchell's station as a massive barrage of ordnance headed towards it. Mitchell and the other tactical officers under him tried desperately to keep the barrage at bay with point defence but it didn't take long for the shields to fall and the ship to go dead.

When the ship's lights went out, Mitchell leaned back in his chair and cursed.

The captain sighed and did likewise as the regiment's commander, Admiral Lento addressed the regiment, "Men and women of the 9th line regiment, we are dead. Had this been a real battle, Gronde forces would be mopping up the rest of us that hadn't fled and would be in control of this system, and in perfect position to regroup and launch more assaults on weaker positions, or pave the way for a large scale invasion force. We will carry out additional exercises, though, as always, I will not say when. Simply be prepared. Admiral Lento over and out."

Mitchell queried the computer for all the battle information and transferred a copy of it to the captain as he himself began conferring with the officers under him and pouring over the data for ideas on how to overcome the problem.

OOC: Yes, only 5 metres of superdense armor plating, under a heavy reflector shield, a heavy grav field, a heavy static field, a spacial distortion shield that acts as a SD field if needed, more point defense weapons than you can shake a stick at, and like, 4 KM of docking space inside... oh and layered steel armor with bonding liquid that gets strong in comparison to the force exerted on it. A bullet hits the stuff, and the liquid becomes a solid hard enough to repel the bullet.

The Imperial Fleetwas squared off near the Warp fortress, its numbers over 5400 ships in total. The Emperor sat abord his own craft, his body rigid and his eyes closed. On the outside he looked like nothing was happening, but the Tsurani where having council once again, and he watched.

-Sir, being in the AoN is becoming more and more dangorus, if this continues, then we will be conquered. Said a rather brave Tsurani.

-We are houner bound to fight, and this is good Sport for the Alethrians. Soon we will have our own fun, and our empire is to spread out for other nations to track down all of us. Now, the fleet is ready, and I have just recived word they are about to get into a conflict with the Larixans, but that is not my concern. We need to increase monitering, the Overmind is becoming desperate, and the queen has started to show maddness. We always knew about her infetion, but we have always been able to control her. He grimiced, the Tsurani Queen had been infected with the Overmind Long ago, and she had tried to create tsurani that where overmind servents. The Emperor then opened his eyes, and looked at the deck. He saw the warp fortress, and swore, the confrence must have been on for days. He made a quick cheak, and when e was sure no one was infected, sent a message to Kulgar.

"Kulgar, I need to know how much longer this will take. The Alethtians grow restless, and they will need blood of something skilled before long. Get me something to attack, even if it is only a discration. Emperor Arkyla."

Ic> Kalgar was performing his other duties after sending a message to Lessr Tsurani, inviting them to attack any enemy that they viewed as necessary, preferably within ESUS space. He received a message from the Cromar system. The innitial occupation was a success and a forward base had been established.

“It’s time for you to address the AoN and the soldiers,” Kalgar’s assistant said.
“Very well.”

Warriors of the AoN, we are about to embark on the great crusade for which we have prepared for many years. The eyes of the universe are upon us. Together, with our brave allies and brothers of arms from across the AoN, both human and alien, we will bring about the destruction of the ESUS war machine, the elimination of their long held tyranny over the oppressed people of the galaxy.

Our fight will not be an easy one. Our enemies are numerous, well trained, well equipped, and battle hardened. They will fight savagely. I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory. May the good will of the AoN and free peoples everywhere be with us as we embark on this great and noble undertaking. Good luck.

Ooc> JJR: I don’t see why not, if they were listening for that kind of thing. It’s not a top-secret message and thus does not have the protection that one would.

Ic> Kalgar’s speech was successful in encouraging the troops. The soldiers boarding the transports were those of confidence, courage, and resolve. A large fleet was already massed at Manticore, and another preparing for departure at the Alpha Prime Shipyard in the Gronde home system. Kalgar quickly departed for Manticore to do something that he hadn’t done in many years. He was going to lead the first attack personally.
“Are you sure that this is a good idea?” said Kalgar’s long time assistant who was nervous about being in actual battle.
“I don’t have a choice this time,” Kalgar responded frankly. “If we are successful in our early campaigns, then we will surely gain the power of the AoN fleet. Without that, we will not last.”
“I see…and I suppose that you have a plan?”
“I certainly hope so,” Kalgar responded cynically.
At that, the fleet at Manticore prepared for mass teleportation.

Ooc> Would anyone be so kind as to volunteer a system or strategic target that I could attack to start the conflict. It doesn’t need to be huge and I am avoiding saying, “I attack *****’s home system.”

OOC: Ok, ok, I’m here. I am fighting as part of the AoN war effort. I can’t guarantee that I will post everyday, but I will try to post as often as possible. I am still rather new at RPing, but I think that will be able to be a productive participant.

IC: The Dark Kabal hadn’t taken part in a major war in over 30 years. However, the slave raids that ran the economy also kept a strong fleet in place. Finally, when war was at hand, the Dark Kabal was prepared for it. The lightening fast fleets of Dark Eldar design were smaller than Gronde, but still formidable.

The primary battle fleet in Dark Kabal was under the command of Lord Zual, the most feared Archon in the Dominion. The ancient Torture class vessels and corsairs glided silently through the Webway, deep into Veredian space. The eerie glimmer of their shields made them appear to glow. Lord Zual sat silently in the command room.
“My prey draws closer,” he muttered to himself. The fleet quickly broke off into smaller raiding teams and dispersed, preparing to slip in and out of the Webway and hunt down stray supply convoys. Meanwhile, the main battle group in the fleet remained together, awaiting actions from Gronde before making a major move.

OOC:

Quick question:

When you say ESUS space, which member are tou targeting? There are many ESUS members you could drag into this instead of just the ones actively participating.

Who are you targeting?

ooc> Well, seeing as how Veredia seems to be very involved with this RP and Gronde has a long standing score to settle with them, I think that Veredia will be the first target. This isn't something that you would know yet, however. Cromar is a system that lies in between most of the active ESUS members.

TDK: This reminds me, how did you know that I planned on attacking Veredia? I never TGed you about it as I didn't expect you to take part.

ic> Deep within the AoN, in the system of Xan, the first ancient Necron necropolis was alive (sort of, lol) with activity. The psyker teams had once again begun their duties of harnessing more direct controll over the Tomb forces. With war at hand, the might of these ancient warriors would be needed. Raider class vessels circled the great pyramid like hornets surrounding an active hive. Of the 3 Tomb cities, Gronde controlled one, but it was also the oldest and largest of the three.

The primary secret (ooc> ok, not so secret) weapon on the Warp fortress was at full power. High Marshal Semper hoped that Kalgar actually had a plan.

OOC: You can attack the Ker'Sannoth Space Station, within the Horsehead Nebula. It's one of the few remnants of JJR in the Milky Way. Also, the Tarenteor is getting an armor refit, because you guys are being bastards about it. Nobody seems to realize that armor can be, you know, really hard...

Act 3; First Blood
The 1st Battlefleet at Manticore was prepared for Mass teleportion. Kalgar sat in the main tactical controll room on his desolator class command ship. It was time for the first phase of the plan. The teleportation sequence was activated and the fleet was teleported to a place called Ker'Sannoth Space Station. It was the last bit of JJR pressence in the Milky way and was to be removed to cut off outside strategic locations. The battle fleet exited the teleportation about 1 million miles away from the main station. The fleet got into position and readied its weapons. The first battle was to begin.

ooc> 1st Battlefleet:
2 Desolator Class Super Dreadnoughts
5 Apocolypse Class Battleships
12 Titan Class Battle Barges
18 Empire Class Battle Cruisers
34 Retribution Class cruisers
40 Behemoth Class Carriers
50 Hunter Destroyers
65 Nova Class Super Frigates
130 Paranna Corvettes
70 Light Missiles Frigates
80 Light Torpedo Frigates

And the space station is not the last, just one of the last. Of course, it would likely be the only remnant you would know of.

OOC: GAH! DAMNIT GRONDE! Read the whole post! lol, on a slightly more serious note, you weren't actually attacking my fleet. It was simulation, as noted at the end of the post when the commander of the regiment addresses them and teh tactical officers start conferring on new strategies. As for a system, if you want to start off by attacking me (YAY! Veredia becomes a battleground...yet again) you could hit the Nuholland (world of House Winton, along some major trade lines) or the Haraden (massive trade system, planet is surrounded by refineries, foundries etc, it is the House Halladrim home system).

IC:

*Shadow Yards*

The shadow yards were Veredia's most secret facility, next to the VTG (OOC: Veredian Temporal Guard, don't worry, no fleets moving back in time to wipe out enemies before they form lol. I'm gonna use it in some later RPs, and maybe use some VTG operatives in this to counter whatever uber special force operatives the AoN uses) base. The Shadow Yards were the birthplace of the Glorious Heritage, and Sunspear ships. It also served as the base of the New Guard regiments and the Royal Malkerian Navy, a fleet of ships that were not in use with any other Veredian force and served as a secret weapon for Veredia, which they could use to attack both enemies and allies without anyone tracing it back to Veredia.

Gathered at the Shadow Yards was the VSN's first and second divisions, 1080 warships gathered for the purpose of war. Intelligence probes had detected a Gronde transmission to their forces. The AoN was going to war, and Veredia would respond in kind. However, the fleet wouldn't hit first, once word came that the ESUS was under attack, the fleet would drop out of hyperspace and start an all out assault on Gronde border worlds. To aid in this, 30 troopships carrying 30 divisions of ground troops stood with the gathered forces. To assist the fleet, some five hundred Noble and Corporate ships would join them, the Halladrim/Strathcona/Vernay war was put on hold, as were the other numerous skirmishes and conflicts occuring.

The fleet awaited the arrival of their Noble and Corporate brothers in arms, which started coming in at a trickle, then they poured in by the battalion.

By the time the muster was finished, some 1600 Veredian carriers, battleships, dreadnoughts, destroyers, frigates, and other assorted warships had gathered. Then, the final reinforcement arrived, two regiments worth of warships arrived from the starforge, rounding out the fleet. Already in hyperspace, twenty more troopships with limited escort awaited them. Scrapyards across Veredia were refurbishing old warships for use, and even pirates were answering the new call to arms put forth by the Prince Regent.

The fleet gathered into formation as the Prince Regent transmitted an address to all Veredian forces.

"Men and women of Veredia. For decades we have stood in isolation, our enemies and allies have fought war after war against each other, blood has been spilled, and we have stood silent. We have built an immense war machine, and turned it on each other after we overthrew Corpsac. We have from Dominion, to Empire, to Dark Empire, to Dominion, to New Imperium, to Federation, and more nations than I care to think of. While our allies and enemies fought for control of the stars, we have fought each other. We have settled unclaimed systems, and brought small independent worlds into our fold. Yet, despite our isolation, and peaceful expansion, these last decades have been nought but war, war with each other. Well today, we shall war with each other no more. The Alliance of Naggaroth has spent these years conquering and enslaving, our allies have fought against the Shivans, and against the AoN, but have also been guilty of imperialism. And now, the war that was inevitable has come. Gronde goes to war against ESUS, our old allies, and the AoN will follow. We ourselves are a target, but we will no longer stand in isolation. Once more we shall step forth amongst the stars, and once more we shall wield the sword of justice. The slavedriving imperialist madmen who run the AoN shall stand vanquished at our feet, and the flag of Veredia shall fly over a hundred more worlds. Today, we go to war!" the Prince-Regent finished as his image flickered off from the screens of the Shadow Yard fleet which quickly entered the green of hyperspace.

OOC: Just a semi-useless post because I'm a bit bored. Although it does introduce a recently introduced defensive weapon used by Veredia, based off of something from battletech.

Prince Regent Jeremiah stood on the observation deck of VSN headquarters. He stared out amongst the space surrounding Veredia's capital world. There were literally thousands of vessels, ranging from small scientific one man craft to the immense factory ships of Veredian Stellar Industries. And there were large numbers of stations, orbital factories, refineries, agricultural plants, docking ports, trade stations, military training centers, orbital vacation spots, naval ports, shipyards, repair yards, research labs, defence platforms. However, it was one station that caught Jeremiah's eyes, the double pyramid shaped ADF base. The ADF project had been a project of Veredia since its first steps into space, but it hadn't born into physical fruition until only nineteen years ago when the Veredia system Autonomous Defence Fleet base came online.

Since then, every relatively major system in Veredia had been assigned an ADF. Many planetary governments helped fund it, and although it put Veredia into quite a bit of debt to construct, the maintenance of the fleet was far cheaper than the maintenance of a human fleet. Also, no money was required for training and the ships of the fleet, not having to have any actual people, could fit vast fit amounts of armour, shields, power systems, engines, and firepower into much smaller confines.

The ships of the ADF, which were drone warships, had battle plans, attack formations, and AI systems that took years to develop, and were the result of the most advanced scientists Veredia had to offer.

The ADF had proven an excellent investment in the handful of conflicts it had participated in, and now Jeremiah hoped that it would be able to stand against an AoN invasion, as Jeremiah had pulled away many ships from defense to offense as he was forming up new fleets to reinforce allies and hit the AoN along the border. Jeremiah looked at one of the battalions that had been on defensive operations at Veredia as they jumped away to join the forward fleets. The Prince-Regent looked back at the ADF base, You'd better work, cuz if you don't...then Gods help us all... he thought to himself as he turned and left the observation deck.

IC: Ships scrambled from the station as the call came out. The fleet, being refitted at the station, struggled to disconnect from machinery and get into Travle Formation. The entire station split open to allow the Systemkiller passage. The 30km-long behemoth was one of a kind, the Grand Colony ship refitted and turned into a warmachine. As the AoN battlefleet readied to charge, ships began to pop into existance around the station.

Well, attacking me would be rather difficult; hitting the Home Cluster directly would take a 100 IC year trip through the FTLi, tho once in, you could possibly utalise the civilian Rabbit Hole gate network to move about FTL, but I'd likly just blow those up, and my warships can jump through my own FTL if I let them. The other alternative is to hit one of the trade stations, which also have Rabbit Hole gates, but that would still mean an IC week through an FTLi 'corridor', so you'd likly get yer butt kicked, as the 'terrain' heavily favors the deffender.

The only other target is Kyoto; a small Coreworlds colony I occupied during a breif war between him and an ally, in order to prevent said ally from occupying it and doing nasty things to the civies. I'm currently sitting on it, atleast until CW fends off Unified Sith; it's fairly well fortified, and has a Superfortress on station, but is your best bet for hurting me... however, if that wasn't already daunting, you can count on reinforcment coming, unless my forces are tied up elsewhere(unlikly as-is).

"It's good to see you again, Hayes," a shadowed figure mused to the High Gaurd Admiral's image upon the wall screen on the far side of the office.

"And you too," the image replyed, frowning, "But I doubt you called just to exchange pleasentries."

"True," he sighed, reclining further amoungst the shadows, "Too true. I trust you've heard about the Eh-Oh-En; they're on the move again."

"Of course; half the country knows that already..." Hayes' eyes narrowed, "The Array's got something, doesn't it." It wasn't a question.

"Sharp as ever, I see; yes, Deep Eyes has something. A Tangent - several, actually," the figure steepled furred hands, "Gronde is on the move; may have already started a shooting war."

Hayes looked away then, punching up information on his own, unseen screens, "What do you know?"

"Not much else so far; a dozen systems of likly importance. We're following them up now. Just pass the word, and be prepared to deploy - distress calls could start coming in any time now."

The hunam Admiral nodded, star charts and deployment rosters on his other screens visibly reflected in his dark eyes, "Will do," he replyed, befor once more facing the screen, "And let me know the moment you have anything else."

"Of course." The ebon-cloaked figure reached for his desk console, "If that's everything..."

"By the way, Zipper," Hayes quickly interjected, "You look good in fur.. tho I think I'm going to miss the breasts," and then the screen died; Hayes' grinning visage fading upon the blackening screen.

"Bastard," the figure replyed to Hayes' electromagnetic shadow; not a trace of anger in his voice.

The Gronde fleet is not our main worry... our fleet could defeat it. However, it seems that another fleet has entered the system, from our allies Al-Imvadjah. But if they meant to help us, they would have hailed us. This is not so, meaning that they were bought off, or someone is getting power-hungry. We will need help, I repeat, we will need help. In the deeps of space, just under a light-hour from the newly engaged battle between Gronde and some ESUS nation or another, there was really nothing interesting to look at. Just a bit of floating dust and a whole lot of vacuum. Of course, things didn't stay like this for long. There was no flash of light, no sudden release of energy, but there was, quite surprisingly, a lot more dust than there had been a moment before. The new dust motes mingled a moment, uncertain of what they were supposed to be doing, before slowly congealing, pulling themselves towards each other in a pattern determined by the mild electric current that ran amongst them. After a few seconds, the field of floating dust formed itself into a meter long, quarter meter around obloid cylinder kind of thing. It was matte-black from tip to tail, undistinguishable against the starry backround to all but the most acute of very close eyes. Then, as if sensing its vulnerability, it disappeared, or so it seemed.

Were someone to study the area of space it had once occupied, they would notice the view was slightly distorted, and perhaps even surmise that the tiny object hadn't disappeared, but instead turned on some type of active camoflauge system. Indeed, that would be a correct answer, were someone to have noticed the object to begin with. But no one did and, as it activated all the rest of its myriad of anti-detection systems, it made sure no one ever would. From gravitational cancellers to ceramic skin, heat disipators to particle catapults, it had all manners of systems to avoid being found before it could collect and return the data it collected to Central FleetCom HQ back on Earth.

And data collecting it was doing. It scanned every spectrum of light it recieved, made note of every gravitic anomaly it detected, looked into every magnetic field it found, and even stood by to make a quick jump in for a particle-wave burst, something that would no doubt be chalked up as nothing but backround radiation. It was constantly sending its information back to its controllers over its onboard spookies at the same time it recieved commands over the same. When it had collected all the possible data it could, even looking at the red shift of surrounding objects to possibly discern larger ships flying towards or away from it, it disintergrated.

Instants later, it re-intergrated itself right in between the two quickly approaching fleet, sent out one particle wave, stood still only long enough to recieve it back, then disintergrated once more, to reappear as far away from the soon-to-be joined battle as it possibly could.

It's final message to its handlers before reappearing in close orbit of Alpha Station's center back in Imperial space was a simple one.

Probe SS-102 reports complete success and mission complete

Shitshitshitshitshitshit

Ruogor Turncut, Viceroy Ruogor Turncut to be specific, was walking down a polished chrome hallway, cursing a bluestreak that would have made his fellows blush, and matching it with angry thoughts in his head. He brushed past several naval personnel, and disregarded completely the baffled secretary of his target as he walked right through the hissing door to the office of Fleet Marshall Jane Richards.

He forcefully threw a datapad down on Jane's desk as she looked up from several reports, surprised, "Jane, explain to me what the hell this is, please."

She was still startled, and she stuttered to show it. It took the only officer in the entire navy who still outranked her to make her this flustered, "Er, excuse me sir Viceroy, I'm still putting together my report on the Beta Project for FleetCom--"

Ruogor cut her off mid-sentence, "Marshall, with all due respect, I know exactly what is going on with Beta Project, I just arrived from the Beta system ten minutes ago. What I want to know is why we sent a probe into unknown territory to observe a slugging match between two nations we don't even know anything about".

Comprehension dawned on her sharp features, a mischevious light glinted in her eye, "Why sir, I'm sure you recieved the report from the Federation detailing the current situation between Gronde of the Alliance of Naggaroth and the Extra-Solar Union of Systems, correct? Well, several intelligence figures of no small import decided it would be imperitive to attend their first battle ourselves, in the interest of perhaps becoming involved. I felt it was not important enough to draw you away from your duties".

The Viceroy's viens bulged and his eyes narrowed, "Tell me, Jane, why in the blue fires of Tau Centari would we fight someone else's war?"

The confident look on Jane's face only became more pronounced, "But admiral, this is not someone else's war. Analysts report that our entry to the galactic stage was perfectly timed. Any later and the corrupt ESUS and only slightly better AoN would have bashed each other to pieces already, leaving much of the galaxy in ruins. However, now we have a unique chance: we can safely manipulate the situation to bring about greater benefit for the Republic".

Though his features softened, a suspicious look remained in Turncut's eye, "Very well, you may send a small taskforce, say Taskforce Gamma from the Fourth Fleet's second Carrier Group. But no more, and you are to report directly to me all developments".

Jane's eyes shone, "Yes Viceroy sir, of course".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the shipyards half a light-second to the side of the station the Marshall's command center was located on, several ships began to move. After a few minutes of maneuvering through the maze that was Alpha Station's central shipyard and spacedock facility, a Hammer Class Battlecruiser, a James Cook Class Fleet Carrier, three Beehive class Escort Carriers, three SDDG-52/R Robotic Missile Destroyers, and a small swarm of lesser ships emerged from the shipyards and made way towards their jump point, eventually elongating on a small jump out to the gateway of Alpha Station, which was already charging. They entered a tunnel-bubble built specifically for groups just their size, and docked with protrusions on the bubble. The large clear skin, when all its contents were sufficiently locked down, moved to right in front of the gateway, waiting for the quantum undulations characteristic of an open rip-tunnel to form.

All of the sudden, a point on on the massive halo of Alpha station right behind the gateway flashed, and the power conduits leading to the large rectangle outlined in space glowed with energy just begging to be released. At so it was; a field snapped into existance within the confines of the gateway, and it slowly began to bubble and dilate. This continued for roughly ten seconds before semi-stablizing. The bubble's scant crew then, upon recieving coordinate confirmation, steered her through the massive rectangle and emerged on the other side of space and time, roughly three million kilometers from the two participants in the upcoming battle.

The Hammer class, known as the Gargantua by the stenciling on one side, began to broadcast a message of neutrality, though its captain informed the other ships to maintain combat ready status.

The fleet of Vernay and mercenary ships had arrived in system, and linked up with the Halladrim and Strathcona fleets. It was odd, as only a little while earlier the fleets were coming together with the intent of destroying each other, but with Veredia as a whole threatened, they had united in typical Veredian fashion.

When news of Gronde's assault on Jangle Jangle Ridge came, orders for the Vernay fleet came with it. House Vernay was a relatively small and weak house, but it had saved up a large amount of money and hired a large contingent of mercenaries which comprised about 40% of House Vernay's military forces.

Thus, in the combined force of House, corporate, and government military forces House Vernay's was considered the runt. Composed of money soldiers, pirates, and typical Vernay cutthroats. Thus, the first assignment which would get the recipient away from the homeland, and the vast, proud fleets of warships bearing royal and noble markings which would charge bravely and honourably into battle was given to House Vernay.

The Vernay fleet, thirsting for blood, wasted no time in entering hyperspace and heading towards JJR territory at top speed. Unfortunately, it would take some 19 hours to arrive.

Chancellor Schutgart stormed into Central Fleet Command. His eyes practically popped out of their sockets as he shouted. "Why the hell wasn't I notified," he rasped as he slammed his fist on the High Admiral's desk. "The Military never notifies the Chacellery of anything. If you're going to get the Federation into another war, I should damn well know about it."

Fritz frowned, leaning forward, staring up at the Chancellor. "Perhaps," he muttered, "You should tell me what this is all about."

Yohanne clenched his teeth, his breathing making a noticeable whistle. "You know very well. The Armed Forces have had free reign for as long as I can remember. The Navy cannot go around declaring war without the Parliament, nor the Chancellor's approval," his voice wavering as he realized just how close they were to Civil War. All because of men like him.

"The Navy has fought every single war you've gotten us into," the High Admiral snorted as he spoke. "It's about high time we start deciding the wars we fight. We cannot be the Galactic Police." Damn the Chancellor. Men like him cannot understand whom they send to die for their "worthy" causes.

The animosity in the room was palpable. The two men stared at each other in silence for minutes. The Admiral broke the silence. "We are a member of the Alliance of Naggaroth, correct," he asked rhetorically and continued, "And as such, we are bound to aid them in their crusade against the ESUS. They may succeed where we failed."

The Chancellor understood the importance of defeating the ESUS. It had to be done. Slowly, he admitted he may have been wrong. A big thing for a man with a huge ego. "Maybe... You made the right decision. I should have... had more... trust... in you. Go ahead with the fleet movements."

Fritz nodded his head, understanding what remained unsaid in the Chancellor's worried eyes. He truly feared for the Federation. With that, Yohanne turned about and headed back toward his office. When Fritz was sure the Chancellor was gone, he turned to his Holoscreen. "Commodore, dispatch the Black Fleet."

The entire face of the Asteroid slid back into nowhere. Within was a cavernous chamber, dark, black, as the Underworld of old. Waves of ships surged forth from the void within, black as the night they emerged from. The unkown sun flickered on the absorbent hull of the barely-recognizeable Federal Vessels. They Folded to the scene of battle, seeking Glory for themselves, and, of course, the Federation. The last of the vessels Jumped, stealing away like a theif in the night.

'That didn't take long,' Hayes mused, looking over starmaps and readiness displays; all green.

"Alright, people, we'll be getting live battlefeild telemitry in thirty seconds; I want to see a tactical breakdown on my repeter in thirty five, and I want to be ready to jump into combat in fourty. Get to work, people."

A corous of "Ayes" followed.

-----------------

Across the battlefeild, a dozen fist-sized drones uncerimoniously apeared; displaced from platforms more than half a galaxy away, they imediatly lit up with active scans, getting a feel for the disposition of the varrious fleets more than conducting in-depth analisys.

Ten seconds later, something consideribly larger apeared in similar fassion; the thirteen kilometer bulk of the Kanuckistani High Gaurd Vessel Jagged Razor of Methodical Dismemberment; Tunguska-class, ONeill Refit. Five million kilometers away from the station, with the Industrial Experiment taskforce almost directly between; at roughly 2 MSK, just within the range of her intermediate batteries, and well within reach of the superheavies - but they claimed neutrality, and at nearly 7 lightseconds, the delay inherent in lightspeed weapons would play havock with acuracy if their vessels were very maneuverible; not that they were likly to suspect that they were within range of the Battleplate's guns - Kanuckistani weapons ranges were obscene by most standards.

Within moments, massivly powerful sensors began scouring the depths of surrounding space with enough wattage to jamm unsheilded electronics and melt more sensitive sensors and transcivers not designed to withstand such; her barrier feilds already charged and weapons hot, her inversion feild went to 'twitch' standby even as sensor drones launched and her FTLi feilds began to stretch outwards into the void at half the speed of light - 1.9 million kilometers their set radius; the unknown fleet might yet prove friendly or hostile, and so they were left beyond it's feild of effect, if only just.

"Unknown vessels," the first of two transmission began; this one directed at the IE fleet, "This is the Kanuckistani High Gaurd Vessel Jagged Razor of Methodical Dismemberment; identify yourselves and your purpose in this area."

The second followed seconds later, directed to the JJR defenders, "This is the Kanuckistani High Gaurd Vessel Jagged Razor of Methodical Dismemberment responding to your request for assistance; what can we do?"

"Good globberflast, that is a big ship"

He could only stare in wonder at the ship, sitting two million kilometers away, but yet still looking so honking big. Of course, he, being the captain of a ship in the Imperial Navy, was used to seeing big things. Heck he had served on one of the Worldships for pete's sake. But there was just something different about facing a ship that wasn't so immensely big that you could never even begin to think about the size, yet still managed to dwarf his own by several orders of magnitude. Cursing silently under his breath, the captain named Gerrard walked down his bridge to the communications station, collecting himself along the way. He wasn't sure whether or not the other ship had holographic technologies, so he decided upon sending a simple audio message.

"Lieutenant, open a wide-range channel on the booster comms. Tell the forces we just recieved a message from that we are here for non-hostile purposes, we merely wish to observe. Hopefully they will believe us for long enough that we will be able to call for, and recieve, help over the spookies", he said to the impish looking man in charge of the communications area. He glanced up and down the bridge once, then turned back to the officer in front of him, "And by duece, please send that request right after you radio out our reply".

In a quick sweeping motion, he turned and stalked back up the bridge towards the viewing screens, thanking the Republic for the spookies and their nature.

Twenty officers stood around a sunken rectangular table- a tactical holo-map of some sorts- in the center of a large chamber. The pale bluish green hue it emitted lit the room, although it was rather dark considering. It was currently displaying the massive tri-galactic map with positions of every Penguenian war vessel, as well as over ten thousand foreign ships; Penguenian intelligence is truly a very impressive thing. The chamber was one of many rooms aboard the flagship Victory, an Executioner class dreadnought under the command of Kilo-Commander Asp, who stood at the head of the table. This particular room was called the “taclogis chamber,” for obvious reasons, and only officers of the command cadre were allowed admittance. There had been a conversation happening there for several hours, hours since they’d received Jangle Jangle Ridge’s distress call and reported it to the Emperor himself.

“So,” Asp began, “Limrha, what are the options regarding the Jay Jay Arr situation?” addressing a tall female Vice Hecto-Commander in the white trimmed uniform of the intelligence section.

“At this moment we can rally the Fourth Destroyer Squadron, First Group as well as the Twelfth Interceptor Squadron, Third and Eighth groups and their accompanying supply contingents within three hours. We would arrive at the scene in approximately two hours after that. The total vessel count would be one-hundred and eighty-three discounting supply vessels.”

Asp rubbed his face in thought for a moment.

“Who would be in command at that point?”

“You would remain the highest ranking officer in the combined groups, Kilo-Commander,” replied a haughty noble personnel officer with the rank of Deca-Commander.

“Logistics,” Asp continued, deferring to yet another officer “confirm this course of action is possible.”

“It is possible, Kilo-Commander.”

“All right. Then it is decided. We will follow the course of action just discussed and arrive at the scene at the estimated time,” he stopped for a moment, “However, we will not engage until a formal declaration of war is given by the aggressors, we are engaged, or if allies already assisting JJR are in dire straits. Dismissed.” With that, the plan moved forward. Within five hours the newly designated Penguenian Temporary Battlegroup 642 arrived eight-million kilometers away from the Ridgian station.

OOC: Numbers will be posted in the OOC thread.

The two messages arrived in near-unison. Being an ally, Kanuckistan's message went through first. "We need good forces. With the present numbers, only the Systemkiller and the Tarenteor would come out of this battle in one piece. Also, an Industrial Experiment fleet has appeared, though they seem to be nuetral, being that they just hailed us. Let me ptch the message through." After the mention of "watching" the battle, Tarenteor grumbled. "Yeah, that's a hell of a smart idea."

Commodore De Tua stood on the bridge of yet another new vessel of the Federation. His hands clasped behind his back, he lazily wandered over to the navigations console. He stared at the holodisplay above the station, and watched as the Commander that sat there manipulated the data the ship received every second from its sensors.

"Where, pray tell, is the battle? This looks to me like the middle of nowhere," He coughed as he spoke, "Why are we in the middle of nowhere?"

The Commander punched in a series of commands, ultimately bringing up the original Fold coordinates. "Here sir," he began, "We detected an FTLi field here, mid-jump. The computer selected a nearby point to De-Fold at."

The Commodore studied the display intently. Scratching his beard in curiosity, he questioned the Commander yet again. "For what reason did we not continue? Does this FTLi prevent distortions of the STC?"

"We are unsure, sir, and as we are all taught: 'If something poses a risk, identify it first.'"

The Commodore stood up, straightened his uniform, and returned to the Command Chair. "Okay, Nav, plot a course for just beyond the FTLi field, Ops, notify all other vessels in the fleet to go to Alert Status One," he took a deep breath before continuing, "Tac, have the Carriers ready all Attack Craft, have all weapons charged or loaded, and all shields raised. Comm, prepare standard STC communications jamming field."

The 200 sleek black ships dissappeared into the emptiness with nothing more than a flash of white light.

-------------------------------------

With an identical flash, the Federal fleet appeared, side-by-side with the Industrial Experiment fleet.

"Well," muttered De Tua, "It seems they heeded our advice. Must've been a surprise to be greeted by a Battleplate." He chuckled as he finished. "Helm, move the Fleet to Battle Positions, Comm, hail the Gronden and Industrial fleets, tell them we've arrived." I doubt they recognized us as even being Federal. That's what we get for always painting them white and blue...

OoC: Not to be rude, but I would ask anyone but GZ or (If he does indeed become involved, ShadowTech, to refrain from calling me 'Industrial Experiment'. No one but them would even know of the HIRIE's existance, let alone that those ships would be mine.

The comm officer at his station was sitting back, anxiously awaiting the reply from FleetCom. He imagined that the Marshall was going over force deployment figures with her staff, deciding what they could spare for this engagement. He sighed internally, ahh, the Marshall. He had seen only a few holos of her, but she had the striking beauty of a woman in power who knew exactly what she could do. Sitting in his reverie, he was surprised when his mind seemed to buzz, his SARA link recieving information from the ship's computer.

"Captain sir! We've got an answer from FleetCom, the computer is interpreting now...ok sir, we've got confirmation of reinforcements and orders. We're to jump 2 lightyears from the farthest enemy battlegroup and meet the new force. I'm also getting a hail from the newest arrivals, the black ships off to port. Apparently, they're Federation forces. They're here to assist in the battle", he intoned, almost all in one breath.

Gerrard turned from the viewpoint during the comm officer's short speech, and walked over to the man and his console, "Hm, what kind of reinforcements are we looking at?"

The other man paused a moment as he took the information from the message that was decrypted by the ship's computer, "Well sir, I believe we're looking at...by the duece, sir, they're sending the entire Imperial Pride Group. That's the full carrier battlegroup sir".

The captain whistled lowly and a small bit of him lit up at the news, "Very well, send a confirmation hail to the Federals, inform them that we are jumping away and returning to our space. Use broadrange boosters here, I want the other participants to hear this, too".

"But sir, we've been ordered to only jump out a couple light years..."

"I know that Lieutenant, I know that"

It took a moment for the comm man to understand, but when he did, he smiled a bit mischieviously, "Of course sir, broadcasting now".

Gerrard immediately walked over to his command chair and sat down, "Helm, take us on heading 037 by 127, out two light years, full compression spurt-jump".

"Aye sir", rang out the pilot's voice as the comm officer relayed the order to the rest of the taskforce.

In a few moments, the entire fleet oriented itself to point slightly to the side of the enemy forces, away from the battle at the station, sufficiently confident that all thought they were running away. As one, the ships of the taskforce all elongated and disappeared out into the wilds of space.

OoC: I'll RP the arrival of the rest of the fleet once the battle gets a little more involved, then I'm jumping in and showing the galaxy exactly what an Imperial Republican carrier battlegroup is capable of ;)

ic> The 1st battlefleet was comming under heavy fire, especially when a massive JJR vessel joined the fight, even more so when a peice of the Kanuckistani navy graced the battle with its pressence. The battlefleet went through a rotating counter volly formation, rotating the major gun vessels allowing the fleet use its full firepower while keeping as little of the fleet within grips of the enemy as possible. The fleet barely even advanced into the fight. It wasn't the tactics that an attacking fleet would use. They seemed to be. . .stalling. Still the fleet was getting hammered up. Kalgar himself sat at the command deck of the flag Desolator, giving the fleet orders himself.
"Focus your fire on the lighter vessels," he ordered. "Switch the forward Warp Cannon to the sub shot for maximum damage radius." Shots fired off from the Desolator into the largest clusters of JJR ships. Several corvettes were obliterated by enemy fire on either side of the command ship and the command ships itself took a few shots.

The Warp fortress was fully prepared for her role in the plan. The first weapon to be used was the Warp Tearer, code-named "Armageddon." Back at the battle, a secure message was sent to all AoN ships and allied ships, advising that they get out immediately. The Gronde fleet was already prepared for this and jumped out quickly. There was another 10 second wait, and then the Armageddon "fired."

ooc> Alright, the Armageddon works by pin-pointing 4 locations relatively close together in space. The Armageddon sends powerfull energy surges through the Warp to the 4 locations there parralell to the 4 locations in real space. The nature of the energy surge creates a tear between the Warp and real space in the 4 locations causing a powerfull Warp storm in the area between the 4 points. Also, I know that ship FTLi's have become standard issue nowadays, but I don't think that anything on a ship would have enough power behind it to stop this. I will let each participant RP the result it has on their own forces, allies would have gotten fore-warning. If anyone has any questions or concerns, I will be glad to answer them (considering the nature of this weapon, questions would be expected) in the ooc thread. I will have no problem explaining it further if neccissary. (Keep in mind that the Armageddon will need to wait a few NS days before activating again)

ooc> Now before people get trigger happy with the Ignore cannons, keep in mind that I did not get this thing overnight, nor was I the only member funding it. THR and TDK both helped out immensely. Oropher also helped a little. (he TGed me saying that he will be able to post monday) A few other nations also put in for it. I tested the other weapon on the fortress back about 30 or so NS years ago on Corpsac. (That is how his emperor died, BTW) It wasn't fully functional then, but we have had quite some time to work out the bugs. The total time to build it was about 50 NS years along with about 180 NS years of the Warp research that is the specialization of my nation. Again, both of the weapons take about 3 NS days to recharge and it will be about 1 NS day to cool down afterwards before the other weapon can be used. If you think that these figures should be edited, again, go to the ooc thread.

OOC: My spacial patcher and smoother would stop that almost instantly. It keeps the STC taut, and if a tear is detected, the area of STC is stretched inward, literally cutting it from our universe. It works much like my Bubble Shields.
IC:
Lasers sliced into a small fighter group, destroying 5 of the sleek craft. A Pentacol was hit, but the reflector shield shrugged it off. As energy pumped into the STC, the STC pulled taught, before slicing each of the individual points off from the Universe. The process took a few seconds, but was none-the-less effective. However, in the dissconnection of the points, 3 Terracostes were destroyed. Onboard the Tarenteor, it was decided that if GZ wanted to muck with Spacial Distortion, two could play at that. The Purgatory Spacial Distortion cannon readied, and the spacial patcher shut down momentarily. Given 100% efficiency, space in the center of the GZ fleet would expand, while a ring on the outside shrunk, hopefully making everything in the area bigger inside than outside, popping it like a balloon under a pickaxe.

(You don't mind if I just jump right in here, do you?)

On the second floor of the imperial palace, behind the organic curtains, The Red Phone flashed and rang with annoying intensity. Padshah Yang-Chen the second, (possible RP incoming concerning unsuspicious death of our emperor, but it's mainly here because I felt that Yang Chen was a bit... meh, too much OOC already) had yet to get used to being in charge. There was a world of difference, however, to not being used to something, and being unprepared for it. Yang-Cheng the second, similar in shape to his Father, except more extreme in each way, being taller, thinner, far whiter hair, and having far more blue eyes, got out of his bed, and strode in long loping strides towards the telephone, light gravity and lanky physique (9, 11") giving his walk a charicatured appearance, despite a lifetime living in the environment. As he answered the phone, a voice spoke immediately, deep and smoothe. One of those perfect '"phone voices".

"My Lord. We have reports of combat involving several alliance members. You have been summoned to an emergency meeting of the warrior caste."

The call ended as soon as it began, dial tone replacing voice.

The Emperor smiled to himself as he pulled on his robes. I have been summoned to a meeting. I thought I was in charge.
On the bottom floor of the palace, the meeting chambers gave out a glow. It looked like every caste was having a meeting. Admittedly, the warrior caste meeting would have top priority in a potential war, but on their own, they could be so... unstable.

As Yang-Chen strode into the chamber, feet making little noise as they made contact with the hard floor, the assembled Generals and admirals stood up and bowed low. The Emperor lowered his head slightly, and sat at the table, small chair forcing him into an uncomfortable position. The only admiral not present was admiral Daibai, who was off advising a full third of the Jordaxian fleet as they carried out a contract for the Unified Sith gov't. The discussion looked resolved already. A young admiral, no more than thirty, turned to face the Emperor, and filled him in on what had happened so far. Yang-Chens face slowly filled with shock, supressing fear. He spoke quietly, addressing the admiral.

"So, what do you propose we do?" He asked.

The admiral, Hui-chao, spoke up once more.

"We believe the best course of action would be to send out a Nonsequitor with orders to get a more detailed analysis of the situation. We have several Nonsequitors fitted out with advanced sensors, specifically designed for this situation. One should be arriving momentarily. The captain has been ordered to contact the Kanuckistani ship in the area to ask if there is any way in which we can assist. We will be looking to make our own contribution nonetheless, but direction until we are fully aware of the situation would be best."

"Very well. Inform me as you find out more. I wish to visit the military control centre later. Prepare it for my coming."

"As you wish, My Lord."

With that, Yang-chen the second returned to his room, and put on his Fathers naval uniform. Many lightyears away, a small Nonsequitor called "Daves ship" appeared and made its way to communication range with the vast Kanuckistani vessel, asking for the commander, or indeed, anyone available, as to what the hell was going on, and what they wanted the Jordaxian detatchment, which was being prepared at that moment, to do, other than turn up.

ooc: uh... JJR? Gronde fired that Warp Thing, not me... besides, you should know better than anyone that our simple Gravometric FTLi would prevent such a distortion of the STC... By the way, the method of which you speak wouldn't exactly "pop" the ships... more like increase the area inside and decrease the surface area... so... it's hard to explain, but it would be like having a full sized house in a cardboard box.

ic:

The Federal Vessels did their best to dodge the enemy fire. Most of the ships were small, less than 2.000 feet. Aided by a specialized fold drive, they were able to bend the STC to change their positions in the blink of an eye. It was time to fight back.

The smaller ships began firing their Distortion cannons, Oscillator De-molecularizers, Temporal Erasure Beams, Particle Cannons, Quantum Torpedoes, essentially every weapon known to the Federation. It was like the fireworks at an Inauguration Ceremony at the Federal Tower Complex...

The void sparkled with the barrage of weapons fire from the Fleet. One by one, the enourmous Batteries on the larger ships, the Cruisers and the Command Dreadnought, opened up on the enemy vessels. Bolts of Antimatter, Plasma, pure energy, partially phased atomic destabilizing bolts (PADB), and of course, PPCs.

The Hangarbays of the Battlecarriers bustled with activity as over 400 of the Federation's most advanced fighters were readied for a strike against soon-to-be-undefeded enemy capital ships.

And the carnage continued...

That isn't what would happen. I don't even know if you can actually do that, I'm still working it out, but I need a bigger piece of paper...

But I can tell you that isn't what actually happens. That IS what would happen if you did it in the middle of each ship, I'm pretty sure, but not from the outside.

EDIT: Yeah, the inside sphere would just make everything bigger, and the outer sphere would make everything smaller, with a normalized bit in the center. If you just make them pass each other, they'd cancel each other out. Overall, you're looking at having done a whole lot of nothing, except maybe putting the ships out of synch as one side suddenly covers space a lot fast than the other, I think.

EDIT2: Nevermind, not even that. Literally nothing of any import would happen, due to relativistic concerns, it would all be exactly the same before and after.

OOC: Uh, gents, I do believe that is something best left to the OOC thread. Gronde, could you give me a border world I can attack, and give some specifications for it in the OOC thread?

IC:

Fleet admiral Kellar of Veredia's First Naval Division stood on the bridge of his flagship the VSS Sword of the Heavens, a three kilometre long Glorious Heritage class warship. From where he stood in front of his chair he could view the whole bridge and see what his bridge crew was doing. They poured over tactical and strategic data, ran through systems checks, and carried out other miscellanceous duties required when going to war.

Kellar's comm officer transferred a report accompanied by orders from the VSN commander to the Fleet Admiral's chair, and the armrest terminal beeped to alert the armada's commander of it.

Kellar sat down in his chair and looked over the report. He then read the orders from the VSN commander. The orders were to start an assault on Gronde border worlds, and liberate as many slaves as possible while disrupting Gronde supply lines. The orders also stated that Veredian angents already in Gronde from routine observation duty (OOC: just a handful of low level agents simply monitoring activities) and more that would be sent to start slave revolts. If the slave revolts could start up, then the ensuing chaos would help created an easier time for Veredian and other ESUS forces to attack.

Kellar finished reading the document and turned to his comm officer, "Lieutenant, I want you to message the fleet, tell them I want all regimental commanders, along with their battalion commanders, to come aboard immediately for a priority conference" the Fleet Admiral ordered as he sood up and started making his way to the conference room where he would discuss choosing a target for the fleet to attack when his regimental commanders arrived.

Seeing as I'm 4-5 million kilometers(13-17 light seconds) away from the main fighting, I'm going to assume that the warp weapon wasn't aimed near me; even tho my FTLi would have blocked it(if you wanna argue force, the TrueSpace Barrier Effctor catalyses infinitly recursive infinities of force; nothing's getting through), it would explain why GZ never bothered to jump out.

Oh, and MSK = million kilometers.

Now, playing catch-up...

IC:
"Sir; probable Gee-Zee vessels just droped in on the unknowns.. picking up comm scatter.. confirmed, sir; Gee-Zee fleet is of hostile intent - unknowns seem allied.. unknowns're jumping out, sir."

Hayes gave an absent nod, "Hail th..." words dying in his mouth as the Gronde fleet vanished, something funky happened amidst the battle(whatever happened with Grande's superweapon), and then the GZ fleet launched itself into the station's defenders.

With a sigh, the Admiral sat back, "Alright. Gunnery, blow those bastards out of my sky. Pull FTLi back to one-point-five MSK and close to one-point-six from the Gee-Zee fleet.."

"Admiral, Jordaxian ship on long range; they want to know what's going on and where to deploy marshalling reinforcments."

"Tell them it's the opening phase of the Eh-Oh-En's next offencive," Hayes replyed, "Dump them our sensor logs of the engagment and request that they rally nearby and out of sight to act as a mobile reserve; enemy reinforcments are likly inbound and they'd best be able to respond if they were unengaged when such happened."

"Aye sir."

Outside, the massive triangular warship bore down upon the GZ fleet; maintaining a 5 lightsecond distance, she opened up upon the enemy with no less than 600 cannon from her intermediate batteries - partical beames lancing relativistic kinetic death through the void, dozens targeting single vessels, their fire-patterns boxing them in, ensuring repeted hits on maneuvering craft even at this rather absurd range. And then her main arsenal opened up; a single, kilometer-across turret - one of twelve - let loose with planet-rending energies, cutting a carefully calculated swath of death through the enemy ranks aimed at obliterating the enemy's command dreadnaught, and hopefullly the enemy commander. Cutting the head off of the snake.

The bridge of the Victory was relatively quiet, aside from a few transmissions from Penguenian captains and intercepts from allies and enemies alike. Kilo-Commander Tereas Asp stood beside his Chief-of-Staff and brother, Tefea Asp, who had not been present in the tactical chamber, on the bridge highdeck overlooking an enlarged tactical map zoomed in on the vicinity.

“Hmh... how cowardly of them...” Tereas commented apathetically as the Grondean fleet disappeared, “We haven’t been engaged yet, and no declarations have come through the diplomatic channels, so we will not attack...” he paused for a moment, “Put us closer to the Zustande fleet to impair their escape... but do not get us in our Kanucistani allies’ fire arc.

A cold grin slowly formed on Tefea’s face, “They will fire upon us, and in turn we can fire upon them. Your cunning never ceases to impress me, Tereas,” he commented as he crossed his arms then turned slightly to face his brother more directly, “However it surprises me that you would take such a dishonorable course of action.”

Tereas met his brother’s turn with his own as the command crew watched the brothers’ argument. The two always seemed oblivious to the command crew’s presence when they conversed, although it was more arrogance than incompetence.

“I disagree, Tefea, it is a perfectly honorable course of action, we are not disobeying the Emperor’s direct engagement orders and we would be assisting our allies, and we are Penguenian nobility, it is beyond us to consider a dishonorable course of action.”

“I suppose you are right, Tereas, I will have the fleet move into positions and notify our allies of the plan.”

At that, Admiral Asp and Chief-of-Staff Asp strolled to their command chairs to direct the fleet together- as the often improperly do- with Tefea doing most of the commanding while Nereas blankly looks on. Some often muse that the two would be better suited to switch rank, though never to their faces.
Jordaxia
24-10-2004, 14:32
Outside, the temperature was hitting a rather chilly -270 degrees. Inside however, the temperature was being maintained at a warm 27 degrees. Several kilometres down, the Jordaxian MCC (military control centre) was watching the most recent feed from "Daves Ship". Things had gotten quite hot since their last view. The ESUS and AoN forces deployed had begun the fight in Earnest, deploying superweapons and uberships. So quick to resort to the most powerful weapon in their arsenal, refusing to get the measure of their foes, preferring a crushing initial victory to a measured, yet speedy campaign. Crushing victories were useful to be sure, but so risky. If you didn't cripple the foe, then it would be likely that they would have the advantage.

Hundreds of officers and enlisted men ran around the MCC, whilst trains shot upwards to the surface and to the docking bays, stopping at barracks to pick up troops and men. The first detatchment had already been sent and should be arriving momentarily, but the enemy would only have a few seconds to get past the Battleplate and to the fleet before they dived into the grid, where they could move undetected until they needed to take part. The only problem was FtLi. They'd have to ensure that they weren't in a field when they tried to surface, as it would stop them. It wouldn't destroy the ship, but it would prevent them from taking part in the battle, which would be just as bad. The capacitors had been charged beforehand, so even if the reactor died, the ships would remain fully operational for twelve hours before resorting to emergency power. (so no worries about me flying through any allied FtLi. My ships should be just fine, especially since I don't use any Inter-dimensional weaponry.)

As red lights pulsed on the walls of the MCC, Padshah Yang-chen the second walked slowly towards a cluster of high ranking officers gathered around a holotable, watching full AV feeds of the battle unfold. It was the same group of the warrior caste he had met with several hours before. They appeared startled at how quickly the battle had gotten so severe. They were not completely surprised, however. Things had a way of developing like this. Yang-chen could see that they were examining him, looking to see how he handled his first crisis. He looked at the feed, which was zooming in on the Gronde fleet, which disappeared promptly as it vanished. It then panned out, artificially highlighting the enemy ships at a range of several million kilometres, icons sorting them by class and threat priority.

As Yang-chen sat on the full leather seat, the feed ended abruptly, cutting to the bridge of the "Wizard of Oz" the converted pregnancy test ship sent to control the Jordaxian detatchment. There were only two deployed at the moment, one in Sith-held Coreworlds territory, and this one. Stretching out before Commodore Lung T'an for an absurd twenty four kilometres, the "Wizard of Oz" dwarfed the entire Jordaxian detatchment, destroyers swarming like fighters over its hull, more held in the cavernous docking bays along with thousands of fighters. Deep within the rotting, rusting hull of the Wizard, there was one section in pristene condition, measuring 1 kilometre sq, hooked up to the weapons systems, sporadically dotted about the hull. It was a wonder that the hull hadn't collapsed under its own weight, and how the weapons systems didn't smash it apart whilst firing. The reason was obvious. Virtually all of the ancient ship had been converted to armour, whole decks filled with thermo-kinetic foam to absorb enemy fire. With such a flexible yet resistant armour, it literally had bent out of shape over the years, beoming far more spherical than it once was (preg tests tend to be oval shaped). Whilst the reactor was the same old 1st generation gridsphere, it didn't have much power for weapons, not that it needed it. Jordaxian tactics relied on flooding the enemy with missiles, which needed no external power, and electronic warfare, ensuring that point defense systems would be useless, and blanking enemy sensors so that they couldn't strike back with any precision.

As the image solidified on both ends, Lung-t'an gave a brief smile and bow towards the Padshah, who returned them, and announced that they would be entering at the edge of the FtLi field presently. The feed switched to the main viewer, fading from the vivid blue to a magnificent view of the nebula, outskirts marked with black. Swarms of Nonsequitors rushed ahead of the Wizard, shrouded with their beige shields. The flashed bright white for a second, before turning to a reflective silver. Then they began to shrink as they dived into the grid. From there they would have no way of seeing what went on "above" them, except one. The Wizard remained stationary, depositing its fighter and destroyer escorts from the main cargo bay. Missile ports opened along the top of the converted ship, mechanically archaic, yet visually impressive. A small dot of white appeared in front of the communications array. A new technique, Lung-t'an informed him. By establishing a small hole to the grid, communications could be maintained. The gate couldn't be maintained in an FtLi field, but a weak one could be overpowered.

Yang-chen the second asked for the link to be maintained. To see how the battle progressed first hand. Lung-t'an nodded, and started to give out battle orders. The engines of the Wizard began to force the ship through space, acceleration mounting slowly.

(I'm gonna post the fleet here, simply because I'm pushed for time atm.
1 Pregnancy test converted colony ship (powerful, not overly so. Can take one hell of a punishing, mind.)

450 Nonsequitor class destroyers. (very weak armour and shielding, very high speed and manoeuvrability strong electronic warfare (EW) fields, fairly powerful weaponry, almost 100% missile based, including hummingbird all-in-ones (EW fields, submunitions and high yield nuclear or antimatter warheads, or a high powered one shot maser.). 6 submunitions per missile.

650 Sharky and George patrol vessels. Similar in design to a Nonsequitor, largely missile based, midge and Yak kinetic missiles with a few hummingbird ports. Each has a singular Rata-Tat-Tat fighter attached to the underside, and maser cannons at the front and back.

1000 Rata-Tat-Tat fighters (not including ones attached to the Sharky and George.) Fast, efficient fighters. Plenty of armour, comparatively few weapons systems, but missiles modified for increased accuracy (but they're more expensive.) a few frontal mounted maser cannons.

The Barricuda Frigate (I finally came up with a name for the class) had dutifully reported the complexities of the battle to the King Joseph XXII, where the commanders of the Dark Fleet were planning the campaign.Grand Admiral Gordon spke to the rest of the group:

"As you can see, the fighting in this system is growing out of control. I have personally spoken with the King, and He wants us to protect the civilian population of this galaxy. Now I know that the DF isn't built for such missions, but we should be able to break up the fighting without having to use the Beams. All we need to do is jump in-system and herd the other fleets out with a little sabre rattling. Then the King will negotiate with the other nations to protect the civilians. That'll probably mean making that area our colony, instead of Jangle's."

"Sir, what of the report of the so-called uberships, we won' stand a chance if they decide they don't want us there." asked one of the skeptical commanders.

"We're a fast moving fleet. They can't hold us in place if we want to leave... if the fighting gets heavy, we'll drop a spread of HACSHMs and TCMs and leave while they get to know their maker."

ooc> Just because JJR claims to be able to stop the Armageddon attack, doesn't meen that issue has been resolved yet. I'm not even sure that what JJR is claiming to do would be possible. (I have been descussing it with my schools physics professor. He doen't think that it would be possible without causing massive damage to the STC, enough to turn most of the universe into a apple sauce) I would prefer if pple would stop trying to mess with the STC.
Is everyone just going to pretend that it never happened? If you could, read the ooc thread and make your own decisions about it.

Veredia: I don't have many outer worlds. The AoN is very centralized, all of the systems that we invest in are heavily protected, sealed by FTLi, and connected to the other systems via perminant gateways. I think I can find something, though. Look for it in the ooc thread.

Shadow Tech Prime, Deep in the Tritox Nebula

"So it has finally come to pass." Thought the Senate at once, more like an entity in itself than a collection of Senators. "It is time that we begin to take advantage of these constant wars, and prove ourself to the ESUS."

The Senate, without having to speak or motion, opened a comlink to Military HQ. "Sevaris, deploy the swarms along with the twin Withers. Send them near the area mentioned in ESUS communications."
"Do you think that wise, Senators? It would leave us most defenseless against any attack."
"We have decided. There is no threat to us here. Only a handfull of groups even know of our existance, let alone our position."
"So be it then."

Within two hours the Shadow Tech fleets, moving as a whole, had left the Tritox Nebula. Each utilizing their phase nodes to begin FTL to the borderline fighting area. In total this fleet was the largest ever deployed by Prime, numbering almost 24,000 Ghost Maker class fighters along with two of the strange Wither Dreadships. Shadow Tech was left quieter than it had been in almost millenia, quieter only during the great Cmndos wars.

"Ahh, Commondore Vicken, good to see you sir, good to see you", Gerrard said as he walked into the officer's office aboard the Lark's Cry, a Goliath class Dreadnought.

The officer in question, one Commondore Johns Vicken, looked up from the datapads on his desk and saw who it was. He allowed a broad smile to encompass his face, "Captain Gerrard! Yes, very good to be here. And That's Fleet Commondore now that we're deployed away from the rest of the fleet".

"Haha, yes, yes, of course. Regardless, the situation has gotten more intense since our initial call, we attempted to inform your detachment over the spookies, but as you know, the field the spurt-jump engine creates interfered. It's a shame, really, we have no way of communicating while travelling..."

"That's good and all, captain, but if you would get to the situation?"

"Oh, yes, right sir. Anyway, as I was saying, the situation has gotten much more involved. The main AoN fleet, from a nation called Gronde according to the Federation, has recently jumped out, and the Federal forces themselves have engaged several enemy fleets. We don't have exact up-to-date information as the Augen class we'd sent was, er, vaporized when it got too close to the engagement".

"Hmm, ok then, this looks to be a full fleet action. Very well, I will mobilize the entire battlegroup to move into the area. Half compression should bring us in quickly enough but also quietly enough..."

"But, sir, the entire battlegroup? Is that necessary? Don't you think that would be...overkill?"

"Gerrard, I've had enough experience with foriegn powers to now we should never underestimate them".

With their conversation finished, the captain muttered a "Very well sir...", saluted, and took his leave. Johns, on the other hand, immediately told the computer to set up a link between him and the bridge. One of his walls darkened, and suddenly lightened to be replaced by a view of the Lark's bridge. His first mate, noticing the open link, walked over in front of the projector.

"Have you need of something, Commondore?"

"Yes Wesley, I have orders. You are to inform the rest of the fleet that we are moving out. Return to the coordinates that Captain Gerrard's taskforce just came from, half compression, full shield density upon emergence. Inform the Imperial Pride's captain and all the captains of the smaller carriers, along with the Goliaths, to launch all fighters and bombers immediately upon reversion. Send a single Augen class, say the Bright Eyes from the 4th squadron, in at full compression so as to give us immediate tactical data upon reversion"

"Yes sir Commondore, will you be returning to the bridge?"

"In all due time Wesley, expect me there in five minutes"

"Very well sir, navigation expects the jump should last ten or so minutes at half compression, and the Augen should get there in about half a minute"

The Forth Filter beeped with Impunity, small alarms were going off inside the computer screen filled room, the Private William Benvit, the officer in charge of monitoring the national and Galactical Public Comm. Relays sighed, the Forth Filter, signalling High Level ESUS matter, Catastophic Occurances, or Financial Disasters and War, had been going off more and more in the recent years, the Government was starting to worry about galactic stability, with more and more hatred being fueled against the ESUS through propoganda and misinterpretaion of the Alliances actions, had lead to a stepping up in Military and Defence spending, a issue which hadn't impressed the populace one bit. Alas, it was his duty to reroute the signal to the appropriate services.

In Epsilon Prime

Newly elected President CFO Waltzburg VIII, sat at the aging wooden desk, which had seen the issues, glory, and defeat of many of the Modern Torontonian Presidents, and today was no different, he was buried in paperwork. He had inheirted a national Debt from his predesessor, a Debt created from a Massive Remilitarization of their Forces, including Upgrades on the Defence Network, the Fleet, and now he was putting down payments on refitting the countries entire Land Military. All of this he had promised to put under control, and was having a hard time doing it.

It was during this an aide walked into the room, and dropped a report on his desk, very nonchalantly, the aide muttered:

"Report, Filter Four, Urgent"

The President wasn't suprised at the aides lack of enthusiasm over such a volitile report, he had done it thrise before, something never before heard of in the past, but these were new, violent times, were talks often broke down and gave way to war. Today was no different, the AoN had made their move agaisnt the ESUS by attacking a JJR outpost.

The President left his office, and headed down several dozen floors into the ground, where the elevator door opened to reveal Torontonian Command, the Heart of Military Operations.

"Report on the Situation Admiral"

"The Aay-Oh-Enn have made their move against the Extra-Solar-Union-of-Systems, several of our allies have already entered the fight, we don't really need to reinforce their position." Replyed Command Admiral Jacobs

"But we'll send the forces anyway, backup or not, they could always use some help" Responded Walzburg

"But Sir!, Do you not realize how many lives you risk? What if they decide to make an example of us for coming in late and concentrate all firepower on us? They wouldn't stand a chance!"

"Yes, its a risk we must take, for with every battle we stay out of, the Alliances confidence in us weakens, and when the enemy comes knocking on our door, and we ask for help, we're going to want all the help we can get, as fast as we can, reguardless on how we feel towards them, so all I can say is we should treat others as we want to be treated. Now, Admiral, send out those forces" Rebuked The President

"Very well, sir" Sulked the Admiral "Ensign, bring me Commandcom. I want Beta Fleet on the line!"

"Yessir" Replyed the Ensign

"Admiral Hakling, I want you to send the Fortification Brigade out to the Jay-Jay-Arr conflict, be sure that they get there to provide some support to our Ally in need, And Admrial, try to bring them back in one Piece."

In Orbit Around Atlas

Admiral Hakling had been ordered to send out one third of his fleet into a conflict that they had no part in, with the exception of being Allied to the Person being attacked. They weren't sending a large force, but they were sending something, just to say they did help out. They all knew the Policy, help out others so they can help you. He felt he had no part in it, but orders were orders, and he readied his men as they prepared to Foldjump.

At the JJR Conflict

At a safe distance from the heat of the battle (The Fringe of the Area) the small support fleet revealed themselves from Foldspace. The Fleet Consisted of One Centurian, Four Legionnerres, and Six Bandit Classes, it wasn't much, but it was a token of aid that was being provided by the Torontonian Government. Before they did anything, they sent out a Encrypted Message to the JJR Station.

This is Commanding Captian Frelan, I am here representing the Torontonian Government, we have come to help out in any way we can, as to not disupt allied fleet movements in the area, we are requesting were we are needed most as to fufill our role of Supporting the Main Fleet Defenders. We will continue to hold position untill we recive a responce

OOC: How big are those mines and platforms?

*VSS Sword of the Heavens*

Fleet Admiral Kellar's conference was over. They had poured over all known information concerning Gronde territories and had decided on attacking the Omega Asteroid Mining Field. Intelligence reports were sketchy, but an array of mines and platforms were suspected, as well as large defence fortress.

The fleet, which numbered approximately 1,500 ships consisting of two naval divisions and an array of Noble and Corporate ships dropped out of hyperspace some distance array. The fleet then fell into three fleets about 500 ships strong, all side by side, and advanced.

As the fleet surged forward, probes and sensor screamers (OOC: Probes equipped to appear as large warships on sensor screens) spread out towards the mining fields to set off the mines.

The fleet got closer and a several squadrons of fighter sized minesweepers went out to clear a path where probes had failed to detonate explosives.

*Jangle Jangle Ridge outpost*

The House Vernay fleet dropped out hyperspace near the edge of the battle, a fair distance away from any FTLi systems and seemingly stopped in its tracks as it looked upon the immense Kanuckstani battleplate (OOC: it is a battleplate right?). Veredian military forces had heard stories of how a Kanuckstani battleplate had devastated the Corpsacian homeworld, but none ever suspected that they would fight alongside one.

The fleet commander, Lord Adreas Vernay, opened a signal to the ESUS forces, "This is Lord Adreas of House Vernay, we have come with orders from Veredian Naval Command to assist allied forces against any and all aggresors. I have approximately two naval regiments (OOC: A little over two hundred ships) under my command, so give us a target, and we promise it won't be there much longer" the Vernay command stated as his fleet's ships launched their fighter screens and prepared for battle.

IC: Onboard the Tarenteor, the 30 onboard PACs and the 40 Heavy GACs came to life. Barrels peeked from the armor, and particles streamed from the ship, while heavy Terakite (Harder than diamonds, heavier, but with a tendency to crack easily) sabots were whirled with gravatic thrusts towards the GZ (Not Gronde >.<) fleet. The Farads on the front slowly warmed up, readying to fire. The Ram ships, looking like most any ship, merely underarmed and with a set of claw-like protrusions on the front. From these claw-like things, a shimmering shield pulled into a pillar shape in front of each ship, before filling with a myriad of plasma and energies. Between the two protrusions, a black orb slid into the shielded area. The ships were meant to charge, hit an enemy ship with the shield to provide kinetic damage. This damage would also affect the shield, and short it out. This would allow the energies to blast out. With them, the orb (an antimatter charge) would be transferred into the ship. The ram ships would retreat or FTL away, and the enemies would explode. Of course, that's what SHOULD happen.

The ships charged at full sub-light speed...

ooc> Veredia: I don't have any set stats for the mines. Consider them as whatever the default is. The defencive platforms have rail cannons on them and are about 300^2 ft. They are not very heavily armoured and are their mearly to take out enemy capital ships at a long range. (They can hit targets that are on the other side of the mine field.) I also have one other thing that I didn't mention before: the astroid field itself is dotted with defencive weapons ranging from smaller rail cannons to plasma batteries. Hence why there is an entire legion of space marines there.

ic> Sub-chapter 1; A New Front

Omega Mining Complex

It had been a relatively quite day, the mines were operating smoothly, all the equipment was functioning as it normally did. It was then that, out of nowhere, the red alert was sounded. The Fortress immediatly jumped into action as a large Veredian battlefleet was detected at the edge of the complex. The mine field was being quickly detonated by what was identified as probes giving off a battleships signature. Despite the quick detection of this, it was good enough to fool the mines. However, the defencive system was not dependant on the mines success. As the enemy fleet was breifly stalled up by the minefield's mere pressence, the defencive platform's rail cannons opened fire uppon the larger Veredian capital ships. In the fortress, space marines were rushing to their thunderhawks and crewmen were reporting to their battlestations. The entire complex switched to battle mode like a well oiled machine. The sound of mining machines had been replaced by the screem of the Thunderhawks and the firing of the outer rail cannons. The space Mech corp was deployed quickly and they took their positions in the astroid field. It would still take a while before the Veredian forces would get through the astroid field and reach the actuall operation. The longer that the enemy could be held up, the longer there was for re-enforcements to arrive.

ooc> Veredia: It would probobly be a 20 minute trip through the astroid feild to get to the fortress and the operations if there was no resistance. The forces there are probobly not a match for your fleet in a strait out fight, so the battle will be fought accordingly.

To all of my wearly at the JJR station, my fleet will be returning.

*Omega Asteroid fields*

"Son of a f***cking b*tch! The Halveer has been destroyed, more fire is incoming from rail gun platforms. I'm picking up somewhere in the region of 100 or so admiral, it's hard to tell with the asteroids blocking some of the sensor sweeps!" screamed one of the Sword of the Heaven's tactical officers.

"Damnit, there concentrating fire on our forward ships, what's the status on the minefield?" the admiral demanded.

"We lost about half the sweepers, but the corridor should be clear in about fourty-five seconds" the tactical officer replied.

The admiral punched some buttons on his armrest console to open a fleetwide comm. channel and addressed the fleet, "Fleet, the corridor will be clear in approximately fourty seconds, once its clear we advance at full speed and focus fire on rail platforms once we hit range. As for now I want a salvo of double booster warheads!" the admiral ordered as he watched a frigate and a destroyer at the front of the fleet fall to rail fire.

Dozens of ships in the fleet started launching missiles at the platforms. After a relatively short distance the engines cut out and were blown away by charges, revealing a smaller second engine which would ignite close to the target and guide the missile in. For now, the momentum would carry the missile towards its prey. Of course, firing from such an extreme distance was next to useless, but the fleet couldn't merely sit there and be shot at.

The seconds passed, more ships were destroyed, and the corridor was open. The fleet advanced at full speed towards the installation and once they were closer storms of missiles of missiles erupted from each vessels as thousands of warheads flew at the defence platforms.

A fleet of Gronde warships tried to harass them, darting in and around the asteroids, but the Veredian fleet split up and encircled the outnumbered Gronde vessels. The guerilla tactics of Gronde were working well, and Kellar would have preffered an open fleet engagement, but he had to deal with the situation as it came.

The Sword of the Heavens drifted around an asteroid and came face to face with a Gronde cruiser. The cruiser fired off a salvo of weapons into the immense flagship. The flag seemingly shrugged it off as the shields took a pounding but held back the assault. Then, the flagship returned fire with far more power and unleashed a storm of missiles. Even while this happened two destroyers drifted in behind the Gronde ship and tore apart its reactors and engine while the missiles that got through the point defence turn the ship into scrap metal which drifted apart.

Several squadrons of tac fighters came flying around the asteroid, attempting to attack the flagship. Dozens of missiles flew forth from launchers on the warship while its fighter screen moved to engage. The missiles blew apart a good number of fighters while the brand new, state of the art fighters of Veredia's navy duked it out with the aging tac fighters (OOC: I'm assuming they're the same tac fighters I've fought before).

17 of the tac fighters ran through the dogfight at blinding speeds as they came in towards the Veredian flagship, hoping to kamikaze into the immense vessel.

Anti-fighter cannons poured fire into the high speed craft, blowing away 12 of them, but the others continued on their deadly course. Several more fighters had been launched from the ship, and three of the pilots managed to smash their own craft into the Gronde fighters.

The last two came in towards it, one was ripped apart by concentrated point defence fire, but its wreckage still smashed into a pulse cannon turret. The other one smashed into the hull, renting the armour and almost causing a hull breach, yet nevertheless managing to sever power relays and other internal systems with the force of the impact.

The Gronde fleet started pulling back towards the base proper, and the guerilla fighting became a running battle as Veredian warships continued to tear into the Gronde fleet.

Even while all this was happening, one of the three 500 ship fleets had gone off with a different purpose, unleashing a flurry of missiles and gunfire into the tactical defence platforms, and some asteroid mounted guns. The Rail gun platforms had already been taken care of.

Imperial Star Destroyer, Velociraptor

The Captain, Erik Nemo read a paper that is basically a letter of marque issued by the Rebel High Council to attack and raid AoN members. He soon crumpled the paper, and watched the 'pirate' fleet hard at work getting ready for battle. Four Star Destroyers plus escorts were ready to attack, four powerful ships looking lean and mean.

"Sir, we're ready to depart."

"Good. Send out the probe droids to AoN space. I want to know as much as possible about any convoys, shipping lanes, things like that. Be ready to depart in...30 minutes." He checked his chrono.

"Yes sir."

Before the ships departed, a small cloud of 20 probe droids were launched, and they immediately went into hyperspace for AoN space.

Not long after, the Velociraptor fleet, too, entered hyperspace, to Force only knows where.

"sir, the PDs Death and Hate have arrived as well as the SB Sith, Blood cry and Fallen, IBC Support and Flying fury. a total of 10 Neb Cruisers, 5 ESDs and 12 ASD's" Captain Malack reported.
"vary well make the jump to Gorde Border apon Exiting make shore all Pocket Dreadnoughts activate the Real Barriers i dont want them jumping in on us or any thing elce." Valkyrie replyed "if you need me for anything contact me i will be in my room".

The small task force jumped into hyperspace as Valkrie went to him room to rest the time a head would be long and hard but still the Empire had to try.
a few hours later the Fleet exited hyperspace and with the Real Barrier in place they were rather safe from a surpise attack. Valkyrie was conviced that the Gronde Navy would have picked them up now they exited hyperspace so close to there border but he didnt care they wouldnt be there that long anyway.
"Captain find me a target then send the 3DMPs in to scan the area" Valkyrie ordered.
"aye sir" Captain Malack replyed "TACTICAL get me a target then send in the 3DMPs"
"Aye sir" rang across the Tactical Divsion.

a few moments later 100s of 3DMPs were sent out of all the Pocket Dreadnoughts and headed for the targeted system. with the size and steath system they would be rather hard to find as they started to postion themselves.

ic> The defencive battlefleet was being pushed back by the Veredian offencive. The Veredian fleet had already suffered major cassulties, but was moving too fast. The Space mechs and the space marines set of a solid defencive line about a thousand Km away from the forward Veredian vessels. The Space marines were all equiped with ship hunter missiles and weapons batteries. The defencive fleet rallied behind the line and formed up into a firing position. The Veredian fleet had been broken up slightly by the forward defences, at the expence of said forward expences. This wasn't a last stand, but was critical. Major sensor jammers were being used to desguise the defence line as astriods. As the first few Veredian ships came into, the forces opened up with a major volly of fire, tearing into the ships. Hopefully, the enemy would take even more losses before they caught on.

IC:

Like a massive goliath moving into crush the pathetic navy of Gronde, over five hundred state-of-the-art warships prepared to enter fray, calculating the final jump that would take them right on top of the Gronde forces. Aboard the flagship of the impressive fleet, the CNSS-3789 Jihad, a colossal dreadnaught of 17.5 kilometers, Fleet Admiral Li Jun slowly paced the deck of the bridge, waiting impatiently for his ships to prepare for the last jump into battle. The newly promoted admiral was ready for battle, thirsting for the first chance in nearly twenty years for the Combined Five Civilized Nations to finally meet an opponent on the battlefield. As the adrenaline was pumped through his system, the admiral smiled. It would be extremely enjoyable to annilihate the pathetic Gronde forces.

Slowly one by the one, the 571 warships of the fleet established a formation, ready for the jump to assist the nation of Jangle Jangle Ridge. One by one, the warships disappeared into hyperspace, winking out of the real space...

You know what, I am sick and fucking tired of all the immature brats on this board. ESUS and AoN both. You guys all think so highly of your own asses that you have to set up special rules to ensure you win. So what that Gronde has a large fleet, don't just ignore him, play it out. As long as he doesn't god-mode his ass off with it, nothing matters. Fucking hell, this is a role-playing forum, not any type of game with a system of rigid mechanics. If you're the better writer and role-player, you're going to win the war regardless of whether your opponent has 50 or 50 thousand ships.

And all you foolish children in the AoN, do you realize how ridiculous it makes you look to just say you have tens of thousands of ships for no reason at all? 'Because I wanted them' isn't a very good or acceptable reason, either. Yes, this is free-form RPing forum, but if you don't write things well or explain them better, prepare to get your ass handed to you on a nice silver platter before those uber fifty billion ships can do a god damned thing.

"The decision was above my head. I can't reverse it, I can only follow the orders to the best of my ability. And those orders are to take in the fleet, this fleet, and break up the fighting. I don't care what your objections are- we are following the highest orders. Now return to your ships and prepare them for the jump to the target system."

With that speach, Admiral Gordon brought the arguing in the command room to a halt. The numerous ship captains and group commanders quietly filed out of the room and headed back to the docking bay, where they boarded shuttles back to their commands.

Now, a word on what the commander's objections had been. They focused mainly on two points- that the Dark Fleet was niether large enough nor designed for this job. Obviously a fleet of only a few hundred vessels would not be able to make much of a dent in either of the opposing fleets, ESUS or AoN. There was no possibility of the Dark Fleet winning if a battle erupted around it. Thus it was imperitive that it manage to scare the enemy by its mere presence. The second major objection was of teh design of the Dark Fleet. Iw was designed with only one possible role: to fight an offensive war in enemy territory. It was ill-suited to capturing valued territory, more likely to make a system uninhabitable.

The commanders of the Fleet boarded theri vessels, and the shuttles flew back to the King Joseph XXII. Then the attack fleet entered FTL and headed toward the conflict zone, to arrive in my next post.

OOC: The fleet that will be arriving will be in the ooc thread. Don't post my arrival.

Good luck.

Secret IC: The darkened room filled with the sound of a dry rasping voice, almost like leaves blown across each other.
“So, Kalgar intends to attempt another crusade to kill the snake called the ESUS”?

“So, what does that concern us”?

“What side shall we aid then”?

“We should stand by our long allies, and fight to once and for all kill the ESUS”

“If we helped the ESUS, think of the rewards”

“It would benefit us more to aid the AoN”

“We shall aid Kalgar once again, and that is final”

OOC: So...that's an unimaginable amount of resources...but anyhoo, that has nothing to do with this thread. Save the arguments for OOC thread, and minor things (like my mine/platform question) can be discussed here. As to controlling another person's ships, I did control some of Gronde's movements, but they weren't that major, they were just darting in and around the asteroids and fell back a bit. After all, its not like there going to stand there and be shot by some 1500 ships. Also, I have no problems with people controlling my ships to a minor and realistic extent, and I'm assuming Gronde knew that from previous experience. Now, back to RPing.

IC:

The fleet was moving again but the forward ships were devastated when they came across a new defence line. The foward ships held back for a bit while the rest of the fleet formed up and they rushed inwards in an immense all out assault. With a large fighter screen, and thousands of missiles, including many Hydra-7 warheads smashing into the defence line, mechs, marines, and other forces could do little to withstand it.

Of course, there was the large fortress, which continued to blow away ships, so the fleet of 500 that had engaged the platforms moved off to engage it. First firing a large volley of 200 Hydra missiles and 4800 conventional missiles at it, followed by a dozen missile ships holding position and pouring more missile fire into it as the rest of the fleet advanced with cannons, also firing away at any ships, turrets, mechs, or marine forces that tried to attack them.

A majority of the fleet arrives in the JJR system together, away from both opposing fleets, off to the side where it could fire on both the ESUS and AoN ships. The following arrive together: the Joseph, 2 Kodiak, 4 Huron, 6 Demon, 8 Charon, and supporting frigates. This leaves the question of where the rest of the fleet dissappeared to, not that the enemy commanders would know about the rest of it.

The following message was broadcast on an open channel:
The Government of Al-Imvadjah now claims this territory as its own. This is to protect the civilian population and valuable resources of this system. After it is deemed safe, it may be returned to its original owner, or whoever is considered to be the rightful owner by the Al-Imvad government. Please leave now, or we will be forced to make you leave.

Admiral Gordon muttered to himself "God I hope that works, it'll be a hell of a fight if either group turns on us."
The weapon systems on all the vessels were activated, and scans were begun to find the weak points on the opposing vessels. If everything went to plan, there wouldn't be a fight, but if there was the Imvadjians would make the enemy wish there hadn't been. Soon missile locks were being aquired, but the order to fire would not be given until a reply was recieved.

The Captian paced along deck, it was takiung longer than anticipated for the station to respond. Granted they were in the middle of a major conflict, they still officially needed a responce. After several minutes of Communications silence, as well as the introduction of several other fleets, the Captain had it, he reissued the Communcation.

"This is The TSDC Finiker Representing the Torontonian Government, we have come to aid you in this battle, as to not interfere with the Allied Fleet movements, we request that you designate us to where we are needed. If you do not respond, we will assume you are in no need of additional assistance, and exit the system"

"Lets hope they heard that one..." The Captain muttered under his breath

Soon after the Comm. Light starting blinking, the Captain rushed over, hoping for JJR responce, but he was met with another:

The Government of Al-Imvadjah now claims this territory as its own. This is to protect the civilian population and valuable resources of this system. After it is deemed safe, it may be returned to its original owner, or whoever is considered to be the rightful owner by the Al-Imvad government. Please leave now, or we will be forced to make you leave.

"Looks like someone is trying to grab some free territory with all this confusion, let them know that they need to back off.." The Captian Growled

With that order, a message was send the the Al-Imvadjah Battle Group:

The Torontonian Government does not recognise your authority to seize territory which does not belong to you. If you do have Jangle Jangle Ridge Permission to seize territory in a protective mannor, please prove so now, but given the circumstances, we find that highly unlikly, and would request that you leave the system, lest you be damaged at your own expense, the Torontonian Government does not claim responsibility over any damage caused on your ships as a result from the turmoil engaged in this area

"Nice Diplomatic Touch there Ensign" The Captain commented as the message was sent

"Thank you Sir..." Replyed said Ensign

"Now, lets just hope that JJR gives us a reply to that one, or else we will be forced to abandon this fight."

Ooc> I’m back. Sorry about the delay.
Corpsac: I will be starting up another thread involving this war once the current battles have resolved to help keep it organized. At that point, you can join in. My main problem is the fact that this thread is already overcrowded as it is.
Also, to those who wish to assault supply depots, there aren’t any small ones established yet that are outside of fortified areas. Once a major campaign begins, you can expect to see them pop up all over the place.

Ic> The defensive line held up until the Veredian forces re-organized and broke through. The forces quickly broke off and fled back to the next defensive position. The Space Mechs used their mobility and firepower to dart back and forth between the astroids and unleashed vollies of fire onto the assulting vessels. The screach of thunderhawks was constantly present. The powerfull fighter class vessels landed on astroids just long enough to fire off their main laser battery, and then would take off again. Sometimes, the thunderhawks would drop off a squad of space marines to launch off anti-ship missiles. The resistance split off in two different directions, attempting to split up the Veredian fleet. Looking only at the numerical perspective, Veredia had a major upper hand. However, the large size of the Veredian fleet was unwieldly in the confines of the astroid field. The defenders, however, were free to bounce back and forth and remain out of the grips of the enemy. The Gronde capital ships were joining pockets of resistance forming near the inner peremeter to the main mining operations.

The Veredian ships had been in the Fortress's range and were feeling the effects. The massive weapons batteries pounded the larger Veredian capital ships whenever they were in view. One of the three sub-groups of the Veredian fleet opened fire with a volly of torpedos targeting the fortress. Luckily, due to the long range of the torpedos, the defencive systems were able to detect the torpedos soon enough. The laser systems fired an almost gridlike solvo into the torpedos. Many of them were destroyed by the defencive lasers, but many still impacted. The volly caused minor damage to the armour of the impacted area, but nothing major. The fortress had been designed for brutal combat, and this had only begun.

The first bit of much needed support had also arrived. It wasn't much; it contained little supplies (there was no shortage) nor was is a fleet of capital ships. It was a wing of Shining spear fighters, the pride of the Gronde navy. This wing was home to some of the best pilotes in Gronde, some of the best pilotes in the AoN. They packed anti-matter missiles capable of bringing down full capital ships with a concentrated volly. The wing split up into teams and joined their brothers in arms in the astroid field.

Right before he shut off the link with his bridge, Commondore Johns realized something, and he immediately yelled his first's name, to get his attention before he, too, shut down his end.

"Yes sir, do you need something?", Wesley answered quickly and in a matter-of-fact way.

"Yes Wesley, I want you to forget all the things I just told you and contramand any orders that may have been sent out. How foolish...", the Commondore intoned to himself and his mate.

"Sir, what is it?", Wesley answered, slightly concerned. He had never seen Johns act like this, even as far back as when he commanded the Pillar of Truths, all those years ago.

"Wesley, if you were here, I'd ask you to hit me. I believe, and I know not whether I am wrong or right, that I may have just nearly killed every man in this fleet. I have become too used to fighting pirates and minor rebellions. No, no, this is a full fleet engagement, we must plan accordingly. Give me a moment to think this through", Johns returned, slowly shaking his head.

"Of course sir, I will be available when you have a battle plan, sir"

The screen showing the first mate faded out to be replaced by all the tactical data, including ship positions, that the Augen had managed to gather before being destroyed. He ran over figures in his head, formulated battle plans in seconds and then throwing them out just as fast, he even pondered walking down the hall a bit to the bridge itself to help clear his mind, but no, he kept thinking.

He sat back down in his chair, took a sip of his coffee, and promptly dropped the near-full cup on the floor as he jumped up and ran around his desk to look once more at the tactical map. He did several more calculations, ran a few battle routes through his head, then, satisfied that he had it, reestablished his link with the bridge.

As the screen faded into view, Wesley looked up from a report he'd been reading on his datapad and, noticing it was the Commondore, threw a hasty salute, "Have you made a plan, sir?"

Johns smiled: his crew had become so used to him pulling genius manuevers out of no where, they had come to expect it, "Yes Wesley, I have".

Looking slightly anxious, the first leaned in toward the screen's pick-up, "Well sir, what is it?"

"Heh, not so fast. How up-to-date is the information from the Augen?"

"Why sir, it's only five or so minutes old, now".

"Ahh, very good. Ok Wesley, this is what we're going to do. Re-contact Taskforce Gamma, tell Captain Gerrard he's going to be jumping back in. Assign four Beehive classes from Taskforce Omega and four robotics from Taskforce Alpha to accompany them. The rest of the fleet is to jump to a half light-year from the engagement and keep their spurt-jump engines hot".

"I want Gerrard's forces going in under nine-tenths compression so that the rest of the fleet will be in position before them. From there, Gerrard is to stay as far away from the giant battleplate as possible, preferably twenty or more light-seconds, and begin to harry it with fighters. Once their attention is drawn towards the taskforce, I expect they will send what the consider to be overwhelming force to crush the annoyance".

"From there, Gerrard is to send us a signal over the spookies as soon as he engages enemy ships with his capital ships. The rest of the group will jump in under full battle-status and wipe out whatever forces were sent to destroy Gerrard's taskforce".

Wesley gave a sly smile, "Ahh, yes, divide and conquer, eh sir?"

Displaying a much more sheepish spliting of lips, the Commondore sighed, "It's never that simple Wesley, but let us hope it at least works out somewhere near like we want this time..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gerrard looked at the orders that had just come in over the spookies from the Lark, and he silently cursed Vicken under his breath. That bastard was expecting him to jump in with a force barely larger than he had originally come with and wait for them to reinforce him after he was already engaged?

"Bah, helm, reorient us on a heading towards the battle and give all the ships on this list the coordinates. When we get a confirmation from the Lark, you are to jump out".

"Yessir!"

Suddenly, the comm officer spoke up, "Captain sir, confirmation coming in over the spookies right now, we are to jump in ten seconds, nine-tenths compression. The jump should only take a minute according to the Lark
s nav data".

Gerrard, again cursing Vicken, walked to his command chair, "Very well, on my mark, engage SJ engines at nine-tenths compression"

"Aye aye, nine-tenths sir"

"5...4...3...2...1...mark"

"Spurt jump engines engaging, sir"

As one, the ships of taskforce gamma, along with several from Omega and Alpha, elongated towards the battlefield that they would soon be part off, once more. Only a second behind them, the rest of the fleet followed suit, slowly catching up to and surpassing the smaller group, but dropping out of FTL speeds after travelling only one and a half light-years.

Gerrard's force continued on, falling into subluminal speeds twenty light seconds from the Kanuckstanian fleet. As soon as the scene resolved into one of normal space, Gerrard was moving.

"Leftenant, order the launch of all fighters and bombers in the taskforce. Assign three Raptors and one Bear class for escort. Have fourty four of the Firecats and all of the Wasps stay back and set up a defensive screen in front of the rest of the taskforce. All fighters are to begin discretionary strafing runs on the enemy capital ships and engage any enemy fighters they encounter. Bombers are to concentrate on that Battleplate, launch all munitions and return to their carriers".

As the orders coursed throughout the taskforce, it took only a minute before fighters began discourging from the carriers in the group, some taking up defensive positions, but most heading towards the enemy at full speed. In total, one hundred Firecat class space superiority fighters escorted eighteen Slug class bombers. The group was followed closely by three Raptor class corvettes and one Bear class frigate. As soon as the group left the cover of the taskforce, they began manuevering like crazy, jinking and dodging, not quite sure how far out the battleplate's cannons could shoot.

It took nearly a minute for the swarm to enter within range of the battleplate, and they didn't waste any time. The Slugs locked on right away, not even bothering to get a double lock for the thing's size, and fired a large volley of anti-matter/matter missiles and dropped a swath of similar torpedoes in their wake as all eighteen pulled away in unison. The Firecats swooped down as close to the thing's surface as they dared for fear of the ship's point defense systems, and began to fire their HCE cannons into the thing's shields. Human torso sized globules of energy flew from the fighters to fall upon the shields, and like a flock of birds, the fighters pulled out of the dive as one and rocketed back off into space, dodging as many shots from the battleplate's cannons as possible.

As for the larger ships, they opened fire with their plasma weaponry, the three corvettes shooting their Plasma Lances until their reserves were dry and the single frigate using its Plasma cannon to slash across the enemy ship's shields with a large, continuous beam of superheated plasma.

Once all the Imperial ships had finished their attack runs, they spread out and all began fleeing back to the relative safety of the taskforce as quickly as their ships would carry them.

OoC: You can begin RPing from the point they enter your weapons range all the way up to whenever, if you wish. I will post losses after your return post.

Sallah almost tore her hair out when she heard the message. She had come to supervise the fleet, Tarenteor being too busy. She slammed her fist into the control panel, severly denting it, before mashing in the Broadcast button. "Who the fuck do you think you are, jerk-off? This Jangle Jangle Ridge territory. You're more likely to find someone drunk enough to sleep with you than you are to getting this territory like a fucking hand-out! When Gordon heard the replies to the message, he was visibly upset. He pulled several enveopes from his pocket and tossed all but one to the side. He broke the royal seal on the one remaining envelope and pulled out the sheet of paper. He quickly read it.

The paper consisted of a single code-phrase: "Some big dogs were playing in my garden, they crushed the roses." Gordon knew exactly what it meant, he had all the code phrases memorized, but he hesitated to give the order. The order that would mean the denial of everything he had just told his commanders about the purpose of this mission. He opened a secure link to his command craft (even those out of the system) and spoke slowly and clearly, so as not to be misunderstod"

"The strategic situation requires a change of plans. All ships enter the system at planned locations and follow code one. I repeat, follow code one. That is all."

He sighed and turned to his astonished weapons officer, who had heard the order that had been sent out. "Wait until the rest of the ships arrive, then open fire with the Dark Beams. Leave this system a wasteland. Send the order out to the rest of the officers to prepare."

He went back to the comm channel, sending a message to the JJR commander:
Please reconsider. We only wish to protect your citizens, as this was is not against us, and by granting us temporary control, you could protect yor citizens from attack by the AoN.
OOC: It's kinda interesting that that^ is code 1, isn't it. Kinda gives you an insight.

Admiral and Chief-of-Staff Asp sat at their command seats watching the incoming data, pondering what to do. The battle was beginning to heat up around them, but thus far no shots had been exchanged between Kilo-Commander Asp’s fleet and hostile forces. No war had been declared officially, there was only war. It seemed pointless to the Asp brothers- the fighting- no intentions stated by Gronde, Germanische Zustande, or the unknown attackers engaging Kanuckistan’s vessel. Only the hardly threatening Al-Imvadjah had stated their plans.

“This is boring, Tefea,” the Tereas began, “what do you think we should do? These enemies are cowardly and dishonorable; maybe we should abandon this battle,” he paused, “No... that would be dishonorable as well.”

“Well, we have several choices, Tereas. I’ve recently received word that the Emperor has approved reprisal strikes against those who seek to harm our allies,” Tefea replied in the apathetic fashion that was so well associated with the Asp family. He stood up and walked to the edge of the highdeck to observe the massive tactical map. “The Al-Imvadjah fleet would be an obvious choice as they have stated their objectives. We have a ninety-three percent chance to defeat that fleet.”

Tereas stood, following his brother to view the map.

Tefea continued, “We could also engage the Zustande fleet. We also have a high probability to defeat them because they are our allies apparent main target,” he paused, “However, our allies also enjoy to bombard enemies from great distances, whereas our doctrine is to engage at point blank range where we will almost defiantly be victorious.”

“The first choice is quite appealing, but the enemy is almost exclusively engaging the Kanuckistanis,” the Kilo-Commander said thoughtfully, “However, the Torontoians are supporting them, but these two fleets may be no match for the aggressiveness of the enemy.”

“This is true, which is why our final choice would be to move into a supporting position near the Kanucistani vessel. We would be on alert for any engagement allied fleets need support. This choice would be the safest for us and our allies.”

“Hmh... the last choice seems the most logical and glory-filled. Make it so, and inform our allies of our intentions.”

“As you wish, Tereas.”

"Citizens? You know damn well we don't have any citizens on a damn miltary installation in the middle of nebuleaic nowhere! Give me a fucking break! Try giving us a convincing excuse for us to hand over out land next time. On, and by now, my people have likely found the exact co-ordinates of your ship, and the ships around you." From the front of the Systemkiller, 2 orbs slowly rolled out into space. With a diameter of a metre, the orbs were much more dangerous than they seemed. Due to the fact that they were made from compacted planets and nebulas, they were so incredibly dense, that once they started moving, they were near impossible to stop. However, the inertia was much easier to overcome than the momentum... A grav field surrounded each of the two orbs, and they were slowly brought up to speed, as they began to hurtle towards the AI ships.

"What?" roared Gordon as he receved the JJR reply. "Intelligence said there civies. Whoever put out that report needs to be fired. But it's too late now. Shots have been fired." He looked at his first mate and gave his orders:

"Begin evasive actions. The weapons are fully charged so divert all spare power to the shields until teh rest of the fleet arrives. Then give 'em hell. They won't live to regret their mistake."

"Sir, the reinforcements are arriving now. Shall I open fire?"

"YES, goddamn it!! And let's hope that the rest of the ships do as they're supposed to... or this will be the bigest fiasco in our history."

The rest of the fleet arrived in-system. They were not grouped in any particular manner, only that there were two escape corridors, one near the ESUS fleet and another near the AoN fleet. As the ships appeared they opend fire into the system with their Dark Beams, wildly firing at any concentration of vessels. Vastly more accurate were the HACSHMs and TCMs which were launched en masse at the enemy fleets, as is standard Al-Imvad operating procedure. Hundreds were poured into the area from all angles, ensuring destruction on a huge scale. As the Dark Beams began to recharge for another set of bursts, railguns opened fire.

A quick word on the effectiveness of HACSHMs and TCMs, when they are used together. Now, as some of you may know, HACSHMs are the most important unit in my fleet, each missile capable of destroying a rather large capitolship. This is done through the sheer power of the warhead and the targeting system, which automatically aims for the most vulnerable parts of any ship: the engines and reactor. TCMs are nearly identicle to HACSHMs on a sensor set, it would take a skilled operator who had seen them in use before to tell the difference. TCMs collapse temporal shields, simply locking a temporally shielded vessel into its own private universe. It is theoretically possible that a sufficiently advanced nation, such as Indra Prime, could release the captured vessels to their exact previous location. This leaves an enemy commander with an interesting private dilemma: to be locked away, hopefully to be released at a later date, or to suffer probable heavy damage or destruction from the HACSHMs.

The King Joseph began to move, its powerful engines forcing the ship slowly out of the way of the JJR projectiles, whatever they are. The rest of the original fleet began evasive maneuvers as well.

The Kanuckistani Superheavy beam grazed the Command Dreadnought and two Battlecruisers in the vicinity. A few ships systems were temporarily overloaded, but most of the energy was absorbed in the Federal Energy Fields before impacting upon the spatial barrier shields. The heavier ships could take a few hits, but the smaller vessels could only survive at least three direct hits before complete shield failure... however, UFGZ engineers didn't every give up hope of repairs...

The smaller batteries did cause a menace for the Federal Fleet, but this was a fresh fight, and they could put up one hell of a longer fight. Battleplate or no.

(Note: No time to deal with Ramships, JJR's been bothering me OOC too much, I asked you to shut up for a while, JJR, but nooooo...)

The Federal Network was abuzz with Inter-ship communications, tactical battle relays, the works. Commodore De Tua scrutinized the strategic maps, the field overlays, taking in every single intricate detail. New information had arrived from informants in CoreWorlds, providing much-needed strategies for the eventual defeat of the enourmous Battleplate.

He straightened up and began to issue his orders. "Have the fleet keep a distance of two million miles, have them continually fire torpedoes at gravitational weaponry... Flank the BattlePlate."

OOC: Both, but I'll humor you.

IC: The orbs continued onwards, before crashing into the planet, stopping at the other side. As the missiles neared, the Defense Ensign tapped a button, and 10 of the multi-pool heavy gravatic cannons fired in unison. Being ripped in over 40 directions at once, it was needless to say they never reached the target. The Dark Beams were another matter. The majority of them missed, and most that hit merely died when hitting the standard spatial or temporal shields on ships. However, 3 Sallah gunships were destroyed, along with 10 Ger'Dak heavy fighters.

OOC:
GZ, you were only 1.6 million kilometers away from me; two million miles is 3.218 million kilometers, or just under 11 lightseconds. You'd have to double the didtence between our two fleets by pulling back a good distance. Still within superheavy range, however you'll out-range the intermediates at 2.25 MSK(aka 7.5 light seconds).

And by flanking, are you splitting up your forces to hit me from two directions? That's the tactic needed to get around my inversion feild... which, oddly, hasn't been deployed yet; no one's shot at me until now.

IC:
Hayes stood up in shock upon the bridge of his ship when the GZ vesesls survived superheavy fire; the idea that they could have under-estimated a foe so greatly was disturbing, and so requiored far more heavy-handed tactics.

"Weapons free," came the order, as the Admiral again took his seat, "All batteries, fire as you bear! Concentrate fire on their heavy ships."

As one, ten beams of planet-rending death lanced out, scything into the GZ fleet to concentrate fire upon their command dreadnaught, where but one had met with limited sucess.

"Gee-Zee fleet is pulling back.. they're loosing torps.. light batteries have them well in hand, sir."

"Good," the Admiral decided, figuring that the enemy was pulling back to regroup. "What's this?" he questioned, hilighting a group of ships that had just apeared on his tactical repeated some twenty lightseconds out.

"Sigs match the unknows that showed up earlier; propible Gee-Zee and Eh-Oh-En al..."

"Boggies are launching strike craft; they're inbound and evasive, sir."

Hayes glanced at the readouts, befor deciding them a minimal threat, "Feed them whatever the light teir can spare from anti-missile PD at 2 ell-ess, and a couple dozen Eh-Eff-Eff's in the mean time..."

"Al-Imvadjah vessels are engaging.. they've backup inbound, sir; all over the place. Incoming fire!"

Hayes eyes instinctivly went to barrier feild readouts, but the readings gave but a scant flicker from Dark Beam fire - no one knew it yet, but the Force-Based Al-Imvadjah weapons were massivly blunted by the Ship's ASPEW feilds, while the literal blinking into existance of the ship's Inversion feild sheltered the quarter of the ship taking the most fire.

A moment later, someone swore, and for good reason, too, Hayes soon realised.

"Shitstorm of enemy missiles, sir! Ell-Tee-Bee's biting into 'em.. Mostly anti-cap by the looks of.."

Hayes cut him off, "Counter-missile fire, now!"

Instantly, heavily armoured doors slid back to reveal some 432 missile tubes; ordinance rapid-firing to aid the 3000 cannons that made up the Jagged Razor of Methodical Dismemberment's Light Tier Batteries. Anti-fighter-formation warheads and bomb-pumped laser submunitions were the loadouts of choice, and added to the defence, they presented a most whithering fire.

What little got through bit into the massive ship's barrier feilds, but her outtermost hide was thick and regenerated quickly. Still, the continuous drain, however slight, was extreamly unnerving, and Hayes seriously considered falling back and calling in Kanuckistani backup; this was the most pricarious position a Battleplate had been in sense facing the swarms of Hive Fleet Imodious(sp?) some three centuries earlier during the mission to destroy CorpSac's homeworld.

But not yet.

"Retask Intermediates and blow those interloping bastards out of my sky!"

OOC:
IE; to clarify, your attacking ships will take 60 anti-fighter-formation missiles and then come under fire from the light teir batteries at two lightseconds, or when you start shoting at me; whatever comes first. I was going to deal with your taskforce, but my guys have larger concerns at the moment.

---

Al-Imvadjah: where exactly are you, and what are your weapons ranges? I've got a bubble of FTLi 1.5 million kilometers(aka 5 lightseconds) across centered on my ship, and it sounds like that's way-the-hell further than your usual engagment ranges.

Dark Beams, being force-based, can't exist within an ASPEW feild, which is primarily designed to void anything 'supernatural' by tweaking fundimental reality(tho there are several other effects associated with 'modern' Kanuckistani ASPEW). It was intended to stop 'cheap-shot' attacks, like mind-control, force-choaking my commanders, or temporal weapons; I never imagined someone would make a force-based energy-weapon.

You're also now facing the full weight of my intermediate teir batteries; you're spread out, so all 750 should be able to fire on your ships.

“Excellent, navigation’s officer, keep us on a straight course, I want to flank the Veridian forces”

A nervous figure, with white fur due to the gizmos he works with, responded “Yes sir, use warpstone engine?”

“Only to maneuver, we don’t want to lose everything”

“Aye captain”

"The ships have arrived in position, Commodore." the communications officer informed Lung-t'an.

"Most excellent. Have the fighters rendezvous with them as quickly as possible."

"As you wish, Sir."

The communications officer glanced briefly into middle distance as he sent a message through his neurites informing the Rata Tats as to the co-ordinates to emerge.

The Jordaxian Nonsequitors began to surface whilst moving towards the Al-Imvadjhan vessel which sent the initial communication (the entire process takes roughly 30 seconds, during which time they only have shields, no weaponry or sensors.) They had determined that it was the command vessel, as it had the largest communication "net" (part of the Jordaxian sensors is to analyse the web of communications sent out to each ship in the enemy fleet. Normally, the command vessel is the one in the centre of the web.)

The gigantic Wizard slowly turned to face the imvadjhan command vessel. Its subluminal drives started to accelerate it slowly towards the vessel. It sent out a short message, simply stating:

"Leave now. We do not desire conflict with your nation, but your methods are unacceptable to the owner of this area. This is your only warning."

To the communication officer, Lung-t'an said "block any incoming messages. We cannot be delayed by any politicking." The communication officer hit a single button on his console, and one light turned red.
"done, sir."

Lung-t'an watched the fighters stream away towards the imvadjhan ship, Sharky and George patrol ships circling and protecting the bulk of the Wizard.

Aboard the surfacing Nonsequitors, the capacitor was readied, the EW fields established, and the missiles prepped for launch.

(Jordaxian EW fields are a specialty. The consist of every form of electronic warfare you could concieve of. Jammers, decoys, electronic decoys, deresolvers, attention catchers, and magic tricks (that may be a lie) are all part of it. The main missiles you'll be facing are the hummingbird all in ones. I gave a brief description of them a bit back, something like the 7th page.)

Suddenly on the fringes of the system, 571 warships winked into existence, exiting hyperspace and returning to realspace, in perfect formation. It was the Five Civilized Nations Fleet that had come to the rescue, preparing to move into the system and support its allies against the aggression of enemies. Aboard the bridge of the CNSS-3789 Jihad, the flagship of the massive armada, Fleet Admiral Li Jun sat quietly, in his command chair as he read over the data displays. Grimacing, Li Jun gave the order to advance.

All units, this is Fleet Admiral Li Jun, advance and fire at will. We will fight with great vengeance and avenge the deaths of innocents and annilihate our opponents. Forward!

As the ships of the massive armada accelerated, heading into the system, maintaining formation, the warships powered up all their weapons emplacements, their multiple layers of shielding and readied their interceptors, fighters, and mobile suits for launch.

This is Fleet Admiral Li Jun, commanding officer of the Combined Five Civilized Nations Navy Cala Strike Fleet to all ESUS forces in system. As the numerous enemy ships began to turn to engage the Al-Imvad ships, the second phase of Code 1 began. In almost all the ships (IE not the frigates) power was diverted almost totally to the Dark Engines. All weapon firing ceased as the ships surged into new firing positions, then a second wave of HACSHMs and TCMs was launched, hundred more pouring out of the capships, accompanied by more railgun fire. Then the Dark Beams, having recharged partially, were set to wide angle and blasted out with full power. This would fill the system with leftover energy, rendering it pretty much useless. This was followed by a third wave of HACSHMs and TCMs.

However, the second phase did not entirely work as planned. The first major problem was the Nonsequitors. The King Joseph opened fire upon them with her Rapid Rail batteries, putting nearly 10,000 rounds into their formation, HE and AP. Niether the Wizard nor the fighters it launched caused any fear to Gordon, who knew that fighters would not be able to survive in this system much longer. He then gave the orders that every commander in his fleet knew:
"Begin phase two. Divert all DE from weapons to engines, cease railgun fire."

As his orders were carried out, he sat down and strapped himself in as the ships suddenly lurched forward. It moved very quickly into is next position, showing its broadside to the enemy.

"Open fire, full spread of HACSHMs and TCMs. Target main railgun batteries on the battleplate. Launch one of the SHABSTMs at that bitch, and activate the EW. False missile signatures, false reinforcements, and let's hope we can jamm thier sensors. Missile disrupters as you see fit."

He opened a comm channel to the Charon Destroyers: "All destroyers in group three, fire SHABSTMs at the battleplate. Take it down before it can do counterbattery fire."
Gordon then glanced at the tactical map and made the decision which would save the fleet. He opened a channel to the entire fleet and gave a new order: "All ships, skip phases three and four. Skip phases three and four. Go directly to extraction phase."

Juist then the weapons officer shouted to him: "DBs are ready sir. What's the order?"
"Wide angle, fire as we are. We only need to ruin the system now. Once they're out don't charge them again - put all the energy into the capaciters."

Once again, gravatic cannons fired, and missiles were shredded to nothing, along with any shells sent at the JJR fleet. Dark Beams killed another Sallah, but nothing more. In response to the attack, the PACs and GACs all shot in unison, spewing particles and Terakite shells at the A-I ships. Half of the shells were normal shells, the rest were air-break Splinter Sabots. Shaped explosives split the shells into dagger-like fragments, with enough force as to stop them from collapsing into black holes. Around five of the shells, however, worked like the Splinter shells, but with a smaller, unshaped charge. Once the shells hit, the explosive would go off, and the shells would collapse into a short lived (around 15 seconds) black hole.

JJR Space, roughly 9 lightseconds above the Battleplate

The dark lumbering mass known as the Dreadship to the few that have witnessed it faded into truespace in an instant, it's 7km long hull immediately coming alive as it powered up shields and sensors.

"Well it seems were a little late, Commander." Said the comm officer, immediately relaying the sensor information into Commander Antrius' consul and to Shadow Tech Prime. "There are numerous ESUS allies and AoN engaged already, along with a 3rd unknown party which seems to be spreading the system with energy based weapons. There is even a fabled Kanuckistani Battleplate."

"Relay all the information to Prime."

"Already done sir."

"Well then, I'd say its time that we contact our allies."

Closed comm between the Wither and ESUS forces in-system:
This is Commander Antrius of the Wither Dreadship v2, representing Shadow Tech Prime. We would be most grateful for any information regarding this situation. We have a large battlegroup ready for combat in an instant. Atrius out.

Immediately after the message, ST command in the Tritox Nebula contacted the ship.
"This is Sevaris, you have full authorization to engage any non-ESUS fleets with the exception of HIRIE forces. Open communications to them and inquire what they are doing. Make your first priority target the unknown ships shredding energy into the system. Act as you see fit, Commander."

ooc> No, I mean, what if he hasn't been able to get on. (unless you have seen him post elsewhere since then) Not to mention your "attack" is in the grey area of the wank-o-meter. But no matter.

However, this does present a difficulty no matter the circumstances. I don't want to make an IC post at the JJR station until I know what is going on. Grr. If he doesn't post soon, then we will need to carry on. However, I would suggest a more moderate result being used. Until then, I wait for Veredia and GZ.

The Comms were silent, JJR was not responding, the Fleet was almost forced to pull out when the Kanuckistan Battleplate came under fire. Although they were the last people that probable needed assistance, they were eager to help. The Command was issued by the captain to the small fleet. Weapons began charging immediately.

The Small, agile Bandit Classes did what they were designed to do, get up close and personal. Keeping out of the main fireline, the Small ships swooped into the Al-Imvadjah fleet and began conducting quick, surgical strikes against the fleet, these strikes were intended to knock out vital systems such as weapons, power, and command. Only the Crazies crewed these ships, as the obviously had the highest fatality rates, but it didn't indimiate them, they were just doing their job.

Meanwhile, back in the formation, the Legionneres broke formation and moved closer and used a new tactic against the Al-Imvadjah fleet. Their last encounter had been like a slap in the face, with Their long range Plasma Weapons having little effect. When they got into range the newly added Rail guns fired, the Magnetically Accelerated Shells screamed across space and slammed into the hulls of the opposing ships, as well as a barrage of Laser flak fire to disorganize them. They were going to show that they weren't such pushovers.

Finally, the Centurians moved in behind the Legionneres and began blasting blobs of controlled Plasma against the Al-Imvadjah fleet, as well as adding even more Laser Flak to the fight, hoping to disorganize as well as damage them, they were going to give them everything they had, and they weren't going to give up.

In the heat of battle, a wide spread message was send towards the Al-Imvadjah fleet:

The Torontonian government still holds your nation responsible for aggrivating a already Violent rebellion in Metallinauti space, we will procecute you for your actions, especially if we continue to meet on such unfortuneate occasions.

*Weapon emissions detected. Establish protective formation.*
Quickly, the manouevrable Jordaxian ships lined up one by one behind the other, limiting the amount of ships that could be harmed by the linear fire of kinetic weapons.

*Incoming weapons fire, countermeasures online*
*reactive electron spray activated*

A great hiss echoed through the hull of the ship as the coherent spray of electrons lept out of the hull in the general direction of the terrific number of railgun shots (if you don't think I'm taking enough damage due to the railgun fire, it's due to a singular assumption I'm making. I'm assuming the shells aren't so heavy, because you're firing a LOT of them.) Dull thuds were heard as the first shells hit the hull, mainly stopped by the electron wall and the gravitational fields. Thermokinetic foam absorbed the reduced speed impacts, dissipating the remaining energy harmlessly. The shells continued to thud down, the electron spraying continued.

The hiss stopped suddenly.

*reactive electron spray depleted.*

Quickly, the ships captain ordered the capacitors activated to put more power into the grav' shields. The sound of the thudding got louder as more of the projectiles weakened the thermokinetic foam. It slowly got louder and louder, each time the main viewer flickered with static, showing the A-I ships taking up more of the screen.
There was a horrible screech as metal bent and torn under the first impact of a railshell to penetrate through the thermokinetic foam. A small computer model in the captains mind shown the upperfrontal deck glowing red, exposure to vacuum. He ordered the reactor shut down, to run solely off of the capacitors. The room turned to a dull red. and the blast doors that were leading away from the escape pods were sealed. Another screeching noise filled the ship as a second shell pierced the hull. The thud of the others continued in its background. Explosive shells contributed their own particular volume, a kind of prolonged rumble as the thermokinetic foam dissipated the heat, burning as it did so. The eggshields extinguished any flames, but damage was being done. The captain reached his decision.

"Abandon ship." he said slowly, as the bridge crew stood up and calmly proceded to the escape pods. The heavy impacts of the shells sounded their march like a drum beat, in part un-nerving them, other part filling them with hate of their foe. The constant red of the emergency lights guided their way to the pods, all other doors sealed off by blast doors. Not that they would make much use now, but the other ships in the fleet needed theirs to stay intact for as long as possible, to use it as an umbrella against the rain.

The captain, who had stayed behind to configure the weaponry on a time delay, got up and followed the crew to the pod. A second glance at the small schematic in his head shown the frontal outer hull completely black, and the inner decks turning red as the atmosphere flew out of the wholes made. The engines still glowed brightly as all alternate power routes were established to ensure a constant flow of power. Emergency capacitors were brought online to share the load with the primary, which, though should have several more hours left of power, may be knocked out with a lucky smash. Several holes in the side panels of the hull opened up, pointing their hummingbird missiles out. With a small whoosh, they shot out, and began to accelerate away to the A-I ships. One trail disappeared as it impacted on a stray railshell. the rest continued onwards, gaining speed all the time. A second volley fired, this time untouched by the rail shells. They appeared to be taking a more drunken course towards the A-I ships, but the Captain didn't have much time to notice. Almost every impact was being met with the same shearing noise as the first as the thermokinetic foam could take no more. The schematic of the ship inside his head shown the front of the ship completely disfiguered as the explosive shells done more and more damage. The ship shook violently as an AP shell punctured to the heart of the ship. It would not explode, but it would not remain functional for long. He clambered into the escape pod, and shut the hatch behind him. As he did so, he glanced out of the window. The vast line of Nonsequitors behind his one ship, all untouched by the shells. His own ship was battered and bruised. Drifting gaps in the eggshield making it look more like a cloud than a dense fog. He could see shock currents as more shells hit. A wave of sadness washed over him, and his life ended as a railshell collided with the pod.

(as you can see, most of your railshells have either missed, or been absorbed at the cost of my front Nonsequitor.) It sent quite a vengeance volley at you, all of its hummingbirds (that's about 300 missiles) are now winging their way towards you, attempting to flood you with EW and sheer numbers. All of these missiles will carry 6 submunitions, variations of antimatter, nuclear, kinetic, maser, and secondary EW devices. ) Most other nonsequitors would not even fire half that many at you, due to them having to fight more than one engagement with that amount.)

OOC: They're 8inch shells, I dunno if you think that's big or small but that's what they are. I'm assuming for my own sake that Torontonias is attacking a different section of my fleet.
IC
The heavy fire from the Torotonian railguns caused a lot of localized damage to the targeted battlecruisers and cruisers. But the damage control crews managed to keep the ships alive as preparations began to escape from the system. The plasma at such close range did a lot of damage, and a number of weapons and communication systems were lost. Fortunately the commanders had already recieved their orders. The ships returned fire with the RRs and RGs. Also, a final spread of HACSHMs was delivered to the battlezone as the heavily damaged shis jumped out of the system.

Onboard the King Joseph Gordon ordered the RRs to continue firing on the Jordaxian fleet. He calle dout to the EW officer:
"Get those missiles off us while our ass is turned. And you-" gesturing toward the defense officer "-notify the damage control teams. Let's hope the HE shells and the EW take out most of those missiles."

His hope came true, with a mere 125 of the 500 launche at the capship made it through. These impacted mainly on the rear port quarter of the command ship, disabling its port-side engines. Fortunately inertia carried it away from the enemy vessels as fire continued to pour from the many gun emplacements. Finally Gordon saw the last of the rest of the fleet dissappear into FTL, and he ordered the capacitors emptied into the FTL, which would have allowed the ship to escape most FTLi fields through the sheer power of the energy used. Not that there were any. Despite heavy damage, the Al-Imvad Dark Fleet managed to escape, having initiated a new phase of the ESUS-AoN war: The Al-Imvad War of Destruction.

The Captain of the fleet grimaced, he braced for impact after the Al-Imvadjah fleet sprung to life in activity, they bridge fell silent as everyone prepared, the seconds passed, some dull thuds hit the hull, sections of the detachable plating came off and floated away, but nothing of what they were expecting happened.

"What the Hell is going on?" Barked the Captain

"I dunno Sir, it looks like the Al-Imvadjahians are preparing to jump out of the system, seems like their employing hit-and-run tactics, We've only taken minor damage."

"Damn them" The Captain cursed, as he watched the last of the Fleet jump out of the system, followed by the last of the flaming Captial ships. He was satisfied that they had inflicted damage, but they had run, and left them in disgrace. But there was no time for that now, he had things to do.

"Reopen a Channel to the JJR Station, we need reassignment, and just like at the begining, we don't want to screw anything up"

"Yessir, channel open" Commented the Ensign

"Again, this is The TSDC Finiker, and we've come to render assistance in this battle, we do not have any information on allied fleet movements, so we request instructions on where we are needed most, if you do not respond, we will be forced to leave system"

With that the Comm closed

OOC:
Well, I over-estimated your missiles, AI, so I supose it works out. They're alot slower than I figured, and so practicly fodder for my PD. And between the light tier batteries and counter-missile fire, I have obscene PD(the fact that I'm using nukes designed to take out dispersed fighter formations helps, alot).

EW also isn't much use against me; in addition to absurdly powerful active sensors(that could possibly even short-out some missile's targeting systems as they got close from raw wattage alone), I have quantum holo-infrincers on the big ships that basicly detect probible interactions - and inbound missiles show up like little else! ;) :p

Tho I am disapointed that you ignored me firing my entire Intermediate Tier battery at your ships.

---

GZ, if you fired that many, you should have specified; I had to guestimate the volume of incoming fire. And remember that my Light Tier Batteries consist of 3000 fast-tracking, computer-directed cannons with an effective range of 5 light-seconds, so it takes alot to overwhelm them - tho I'd have also met that many torps with counter-missile fire, and anti-fighter formation warheads are absoloute murder against concentrated torpedo fire.

IC:
We've got to regain the initiative, Hayes thought, watching his tactical repeater even as more of those large Al-Imvadjah missiles entered LTB range, recived priority targeting, and several lesser missiles were allowed to slip through at their expense. Barrier feilds dipped closer to the 90% marker.

"Alright; prep displacers and prepare to flicker Eff-Tee-Ell-Aye..."

"Sir! Al-Imvadjah forces are withdrawing."

What?! But it was true.

"Belay that," Hayes sighed, leaning back even as the Barrier feilds' reading started to rise once more, "New plan; stagger launch and alpha strike Gee-Zee forces - deca-volly, loadout from my console."

"Sir!"

-----------

OOC:
Deca-volly = ten shots per launcher, for 4320 missiles total. Lunch speed and course is staggered sush that they all arrive within a second or two to maximise the chances of overwhelming point-defence(Alpha Strike). Launch speed is .33 Cee, with a nominal cruising velosity of .85 Cee and power remaining for significant terminal-stage maneuvering. An intigrated quantum-entaglment datanet connects all missiles to the launching vessel's fire control and it to each missile's limited sensor suite, allowing on-the-fly adjustments and refinments to targeting soloutions, maximising hit probibility.

Volly composition:

1000x Electronic Warfare missile w/ Decoy Submunitions

300x Anti-fighter/counter-missile Defencive Submunition Carriers

750x Contact/low-proximity Anti-Capital Ship Conversion Bomb warheads

1250x Bomb-Pumped anti-capital Laser-Heads; detonate at 50'000km from target to spear it with a powerful beam of coherent energies. Designed to defeat point-defence by apearing to be decoys, and detonating 50'000km short of the target.

1000x Anti-Formation; a powerful comversion-bomb based munition designed to whipe out formations of light and sub-capital ships, and seriously wound larger ships.

20x Anti-Capital Formation; the most powerful warhead employed by the High Gaurd to date, the ACF is designed to cripple an entire squadron of battlecruisers, and outright destroy lesser ships. Extreamly expensive, and thus used sparingly.

Aboard the Systemkiller, buttons were pressed, and switches were flicked. From 500 ten-missile Hornet Missile Pods, a burst was released, sending 5,000 missiles at the AI fleet. The 3,000 Heavy Burst lasers fired for a few moments, before being followed by the 10 Yamamoto cannons. After the enourmous barrage, material shuttles began to move back and forth, as the Nebula Shield Ships and Ker'Sraen Shield Ships began to form an advancing shield towards the AI fleet. The Ker'Sraen ships used extremely heavy energy shields, while the Nebula Shield Ships were compressed matter, much like the demolition orbs. The side effect of the Nebula Shields were that, while they took more power, they could also be used as a dangerous ram weapon. The gap between the fleets began to close...

Like a closing trap, the massive 571 ship Five Civilized Nations armada closed in from behind upon the AoN aggressors along with the Al-Imvadjah interlopers. Aboard the bridge of the CNSS-3789 Jihad, the massive supercarrier flagship of the fleet, Fleet Admiral Li Jun waited impatiently for the Five Civilized Nations warships to join the fray and assist in the annilihation of its opponents. The newly promoted admiral could almost taste the joy of combat and grinned wickedly, anticipating the carnage and havoc that his warships would wreck upon the enemy. But because of his diplomatic nature, Li Jun prepared a short diplomatic transmission to the warships of Gronde, Germanische Zustande, and Al-Imvadjah.

This is Fleet Admiral Li Jun, commanding officer of the Five Civilized Nations Cala Strike Fleet. You have five minutes to surrender or you will be obliterated by my approaching fleet. We are already to slaughter you to the last ship. Are you ready for this?

Without waiting for a reply, the 571 warships continued to close on the enemy, their powerful offensive weaponry and multi-layered shields powered up as they prepared to engage the aggressors. With curt orders, the NovaBurst Cannons and the HellNova Devastation Cannons carried by many of the ships began to gather tremendous amounts of energy for devastating blasts of coherent light/energy... It would be slaughter once these heavy guns fired...

"Captain sir, the fighter waves are coming back in now"

Surprised by the sudden interruption to his thoughts, and subconciously annoyed, Gerrard turned away from the viewport to look at the junior officer standing at attention five feet away, "How many did we lose, Petty Officer Martin?"

Taken aback at being addressed by name, the young man lost his military demonaire for a moment, but quickly regained his composure, "Well, uh, sir, initial reports show anywhere between twenty-five and thirty-two Firecat's lost. Triad Squadron is completely gone, as they took the brunt of missile fire from their rearguard position. The Honor Shield (OoC: One of the Raptor classes) took a hit directly astern of her engine pod. The feedback overloaded her generators, she is expected to explode within the hour. She's maintaining a 100,000 kilometer distance from the rest of the fleet".

The smaller man looked at his commanding officer's eyes to make sure he wasn't about to explode. Once he was sure the captain was impassive, he continued, "Um, the entire flight of Slug bombers was lost, the Dragoon (OoC: The frigate) is completely drained of reaction mass for her shields and is at 15% efficiency for maximum density".

"Is that all, Petty Officer?"

"Um, yes sir", Martin gulped out.

"Very well then. Convey orders to the flight deck commander to bring the Rhinos out of storage and replacement the LASER scatter missiles they are equipped with with anti-ma--"

"Captain sir! We've got incoming communications from a massive ship several lightseconds distant. I'm searching the computer for a match...", called out the communications officer from half-way back on the bridge. He sat still for a moment, interfacing with the computer via his SARA link, then he looked up in horror, "Sir...it's a ShadowTech ship..."

Gerrard swore under his breath, "Damn, this isn't good. They could reveal our identity to the other forces present, both AoN and ESUS. We can't have that, patch the communication through to Commondore Vicken over the spookies"

"Yessir!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

A comm was also opened to the small HIRIE fleet in-system:
This is Atrius of Shadow Tech Prime. We wonder what an isolationist country, as we previously thought, such as yourself is doing engageing Kanuckistani forces. As of now we will not be firing upon you you but you are attacking our allies and we will not have many options for long.

From the bridge of his flagship, the Goliath Class MkII Refit known as the Morning Lark by the stenciling on its side, Fleet Commondore Johns Vicken could do little more than curse when he heard the news from his communications officer. He walked over to the holograph panel located on the floor behind his command chair, called for his comm officer to open a link to the ShadowTech ships via the Garganua's boosters, and then stepped into the six inch deep depression.

He was immediately sufficed with a bright white light, which slowly resolved itself into a three dimensional view of the Gargantua's bridge. He knew the others on the bridge would see him appear suddenly, as if he had teleported onto the ship. He also knew that he was not, in fact, on the ship, rather he was being projected by a non-directional hologram projector, tied to the holograph machine on his own bridge.

"Captain Gerrard, turn on the reciever closest to me and link it to the channel that is being opened through your ship's boosters".

Gerrard, not surprised by the flag officer's appearence in the slightest, turn to his comm officer and relayed the order. The channel opened, and the view of space in front of the Gargantua was replaced by a view of the ShadowTechian Withership from about 100 kilometers distant.

"Greetings old friends, it is quite the honor to run across members of your nation once more on the frontiers of space. If not for the current circumstances, I would be inclined to invite your command staff to dinner aboard my command ship".

"As to our intentions here, we have our reasons for being involved in this war. However, given your appearence, those reasons quite quickly resolve into a load of, forgive my language, crock. I can tell you right now that we will be pulling off to a slightly safer distance and disengaging from the battle, resuming the role of watchers that we held previous to your arrival".

"Good day to you, my good ShadowTechians, and good luck in this battle"

Vicken motioned with his hand for the comm officer to cut the link, the motion being relayed through the hologram of him on the Gargantua's bridge, and the communique was cut off. Vicken turned towards Captain Gerrard and said as forcefully as he could, "You are to completely disengage from the battle and jump out one light minute from the system. Leave an Augen class at your current location, along with five Bears and whatever Raptors you have left. Watch the battle, but only fire when fired upon. Any attempts by the ShadowTechians to communicate are to be immediately relayed out to me".

The captain saluted and watched as the hologram faded from view. He turned back towards his bridge and complied with the orders of the Commondore.

The Captain hit a responce to the JJR message

"Don't waste your energy, the AI fleet is already leaving, if your lucky you'll hit their tail end. As for your camping, we will assist you in that endeavor then, I'll position my ships to close in around the station, and help you repel the advancing AoN threat, even if we beat them back today, God knows where they'll strike next..."

With that the Comm. Closed, and the Captain ordered the Small fleet to move towards the station, and then figure out what to do when they get there.

"Sir, comm coming through from HIRIE forces."
"Patch it through to Prime when we receive it." Responded Atrius.
"Done. Sir, it also appears the unknown 3rd party fleet is leaving. Allied fleets are still firing upon them but I do not believe them to be here long."

"Well then. Things are turning out better than I had expected. Get me an update of current allied and enemy fleets in-system."
"Sensors show large GZ fleets, 90% probability of them already engageing ESUS forces. As for allies, there are JJR, Torontonian, and Kanuckistani fleets, among others."
"Deploy 8,000 Ghost Makers and begin feeding them target sensor data to them. Remind them of Kanuckistani FTLi and to stay clear of it. Ohh yea, open a secure comm to HIRIE."

Immediately the 8,000 strong portion of fighters faded into truespace, taking up formations around the Wither.

Meanwhile, the official response to HIRIE forces from the Wither v2 via secure channel:
Greetings to you as well, Captain. We very much appreciate your withdrawl from the battle and you can rest assured that Shadow Tech officialy holds no current knowledge of who you are or where your from." Said Atrius with a somewhat half-smile on his face. "But.. I just might have to take you up on that dinner some time. When he was told that the ST forces had replied rather quickly, Johns wasn't even surprised. He was even less surprised when he read the reply. Going through the same process as before, his image soon appeared on the Gargantua's bridge. Before he could even open his mouth, the ship's captain knew what he was going to say. Gerrard waved to the comm officer, he completed the link that had been set up from the Morning Lark.

Vicken sighed in grief at the message he must deliver now. The ShadowTechians had been their first friends in this wider galaxy, and he hated the idea of turning against them. He sincerely hoped they would listen to him.

"First, I must apologize for sounding like a politician here, old friend, but I regret to inform you that my continued uninvolvement with this conflict hinges upon a similar situation on your end".

"Now, I know it would be impossible for me to ask you to abandon your allies in their time of need, so I will not do so. However, I do believe I can ask you even just the smallest of favors. Would you be willing to join forces with us to end this conflict here and now? To 'enforce a peace', I thing the phrase is".

"Unfortunately, and I feel much remorse and sadness in telling you this, should you continue into battle and launch an assault on any Federation ships, I will be forced to follow my orders to the letter and clear this system of ESUS forces. I do not want to be forced to harm you, my friend, but there is nothing I can do should the situation dictate action".

"Again, I am sorry. From the deeps of my immortal soul, I beg you forgiveness should we come to blows over this conflict. Good bye, my friend".

We have ten heavy ships, six of them Star Destroyer (4 Impstars, 2 Vicstars) class and the rest are Frigates (2) and Strike Cruisers (2). We have ten heavy gunships for antifighter work. We have several wings of starfighters that we can use, not to mention torpedo boats. How can we use them to deal damage to the enemies of the ESUS?"

"Sandwich manuver, sir?" His XO, Robby Smith asked. "Or divide and conquer?"

"I'd say we divide and conquer, then follow up with a sandwich maneuver. However, the enemy has larger numbers, despite our powerful weaponry."

"Hmm. Let's see how this plays out...give the ESUS command ships our plan and ask them if they could refine it any."

He decided to head back to Nonistan for repairs, but when he arrived he got new orders: Take out the King Detaka III and continue the war.

Aboard the bridge of the CNSS-3789 Jihad, Admiral Li Jun stood quietly at the bridge reinforced windows, waiting for his most devastating cannons to charge up and fire. He was ready and excited to witness the spectacular fireworks that his heavy cannons would create.

An aide appeared next to the admiral and saluted. "Sir, all NovaBurst Cannons and HellNova Devastation Cannons have been charged and ready to fire..."

"Excellent," replied the admiral. "Target enemy capital and command ships and fire."

"Acknowledged."

With a self-satisfied smile, the admiral turned back to the windows, knowing fully that the heavy weaponry would cause massive devastation against the enemy warships.

Suddenly from every single ship equipped with the heavy weaponry, massive beams and particles of light appeared, lancing out like a spear, flying out towards Industrial Experiment warships. The power of the weaponry was indisputable... Like lightning, the beams and particles of light crashed into the Industrial Experiment warships.

Before he could know of the full destruction that he had insofar caused, Li Jun gave an order. "All warships are to close in and annilihate the surviving warships. Give no quarter."

From every single one of the five hundred seventy other warships, acknowledgements were sent to the flagship, as they accelerated to close with the enemy...

IC:

The Sword's chief tactical officer called out to the admiral as a fleet of Horned Rat warships and a wing of Gronde's shining spear fighters arrived at the system, "Sir, Horned rat vessels have jumped in, and a wing of shining spear fighters has emerged!"

"Roger that tactical. Hm, armed merchant ships...they're sending goddamn civies at us. Well, ladies and gents, shall we teach them a lesson?" the admiral smiled as he sent orders to several of his battalions.

A battalion of smaller warships under Halladrim control, alongside a carrier company of the VSN moved off to engage the shining spear fighters, sending Hydra missiles into concentrations of the advanced Gronde craft with the hopes that they would be destroyed and the survivors scattered.

The shining spear fighters started firing off anti-matter missiles, and as the hundreds of anti-ship weapons approached, point-defence systems roared to life. Small cluster guns sent off pulses of energy at incredible rates of fire at the warheads, destroying many, as a cloud of defensive missiles streaked out towards them. Defence officers deployed ECM drones which drew off more missiles, while pilots flying remote controlled point defence fighters sent the small craft darting around their ships, firing on incoming missiles.

However, the warheads still had an effect, damaging and destroying numerous ships as the ships that had been fired on contributed pulse and missile fire to destroying the fighters, and hundreds of Veredian fighters also veered off to deal with the threat.

As the fleet poured thousands of more missiles into the Gronde warships, the ships began deploying their small fighter sized harvesters to absorb materials from the asteroids to ensure that the warships' resource bays were well stocked for the missile assembly lines. In addition, a contingent of logistics ships which had hung back began setting up a mining operation while deploying construction vessels to begin constructing small gun and missile platforms. Carriers began falling back behind the capital screens and striking only with their fighters and long range missiles while their harvesters, and supplies from the logistics vessels, were used to begin manufacturing small drone fighters to back up the manned ones currently engaged.

Hundreds of fighters held in reserve within hangar bays were also deployed, some went off to meet the Gronde shining spear threat, others went off to combat the Horned Rat fleet.

At the fortress, the five hundred ships had been decimated, and quite a few damaged vessels had fallen back to the rear line area for repairs. Small repair craft also darted around the fleet while shipboard engineers and nanobots worked overtime to keep the ships in the fight. The number had been knocked down to around 430, but no fortress could stand for long against such overwhelming numbers.

The commander of the 430 ship fleet ordered a new assault, a vast volley of missiles consisting of conventional missiles acting as a screen to stop the point defence systems, as ECM drones and hundreds of missiles loaded for ECM purposes caused a sensor operator's worst nightmare. Behind and mixed in with this force were several hundred hydra-7 missiles, some of the most powerful warheads in the Veredian arsenal. The ships themselves also opened up with their full cannon arsenals, as thousands of Derrier Pulse cannons and Directed Fusion Cannons poured fire into the defensive structure.

As the Horned Rat fleet approached to aid the embattled Gronde fleet, thousands of Veredian missiles, including Hydra-7 missiles, with the whole set of fire rounded out with ECM missiles. Then several hundred of the ships turned around and started firing off DFCs and pulse cannons at the oncoming THR ships.

The large group that was the fortress's main target fired off another volly, this time with larger and more powerfull missiles. This form of long range firefighting was what the fortress was designed for. The final squadron of thunderhawks was launched. This one had a special purpose, destroying super-missile style weapons. The fighters went after the missiles, destroying about half of them before they got past. Afterwards, the anti-missile defences picked off many of the missiles. Only 3 out of the original number actually impacted. One was stopped at the armour, one caused only minor armour damage, and the final one caused a medium severity hull breach. The fight was not even close to finished. The news of THR aid improved the moral of the weary defenders. The battle was all a planned and organized action, but probobly looked like utter chaos from the Veredian side.

BTW, my ships would be “Skaven”, the horned rat is there god, I didn’t know the forum name was also your nation’s name when I signed up.

Lost: 394 Merchant vessels
62 Dauntless class cruiser
3 Styx class heavy cruiser

IC: The merchant vessels were decimated, but there purpose was fulfilled, they protected the larger ships from damage. Some (actually a lot) of enemy fire made it through the wall and hit the cruisers one the other side. Mainly from the Hydra 7s, but the warp shields protected (most of) the cruisers and behemoths.

On the [I]ChitterBoil[I]:
The green wave rose up as the shield was hit, machting the glow of the warpsone.
The captain was still in his throne, but seemed far more agitated.
“Damage report you pitiful wretches” Snikkit ordered, spraying spittle on the deck.

The pale skaven talked without even looking up, fearful of drawing the off-hinged captain’s gaze, “Meat shield was damaged, otherwise it is light losses sir, computer targeting is lost for warp-lightning cannons, crew have already taken over gunnery”

Before a breath could be taken, a retort came from Snikkit, “Did we lose any Styx or Behemoths”?

“Only three Styx were lost, no Behemoths were though sir”. The skaven became less tense, as this could possibly keep the captain sane for the moment.

The ship had been slowing down, as that was the skaven doctrine for Behemoths. Taking their cue, the Styx also formed up to make the warpstone “bubble”(any questions about it, ask me in the OOC thread). The rest of the cruisers plodded along, albeit at a slower speed to allow the firing.

On the [I]ChitterBoil[I]:
The bridge was silent except for the hum of warpstone powered devices.

Snikkit looked at the weapons officer, “Are the cruiser cannons charged?”

The black skaven was ready for this, “Yes sir, running hot…sir”.

“Have all ships fire on my mark”

The farsqueaker sent out hideous squealing as the signal was sent; the knob broke off and mutated the unfortunate user. Snikkit calmly produced a warplock pistol and fired a round into the squirming mass of tentacles, silencing the moaning forever

“Get another slave, quick-quick”.
The storm vermin on deck quickly scurried out to find a “volunteer”.

As it turned out, a suitable volunteer was found right outside. He was forced(at gunpoint) to be the farsqueaker operator.

“FIRE” The order resonated through the deck, and the levity pressed down on the crew. The new “volunteer” quickly relayed the one word to the fleet.

A brief pulse was echoed in the warp, as the green light swirled around the cruiser-killer guns.

Admiral Kellar smiled as hundreds of Skaven warships, mostly the merchant ones, exploded under the Veredian onslaught. The smile soon disappeared when he saw the gunports of the cruisers charging with vast amounts of energy which were unleashed on Kellar's ships. Dozens of ships were destroyerd under concentrated beams of fire, but the Veredians responded in kind as two hundred warships advanced at full speed, firing off over countless missiles and pouring pulse and fusion fire into them.

On the Gronde side, the fortress was still being stubborn, knocking more ships out of the fight, but the fleet of ships tasked to destroying it still advanced, firing off missile barrages and sending screens of point defence missiles, fighters, and gunfire in front of them.

The Gronde fleet was continuing its guerilla warfare through the asteroids, but Veredia's numerical superiority, and also sending missiles around the asteroids helped to balance the fighting. The construction ships had setup a small screen of small defence platforms as harvesters picked apart the asteroids and the resources were turned into small drone fighters and missiles.

Damaged ships rotated with undamaged ones, falling back to the construction area and receiving repairs from the construction ships, nanobots, and small repair ships.

ooc> I must say, this is one of the most enjoyable battles that I have been in a long time.

Secret ic> The Fortress commander sat in his tactical room, overviewing the battle. The battle continued to intensify with the arrival of Skaven vessels. Unfortunately, it may not be enough. Veredia still have a major numerical advantage. The guerrilla tactics used by the defence forces were very effective, but Veredia was a smart foe. A group of about 400 Veredian vessels continued to push towards the fortress despite heavy returning fire. The only help available was a fleet consisting of 100 Drone Carriers, 150 Drone gunships, and about 200 other Gronde capital ships. Even though this fleet was made up of the finest ships Gronde had to offer, (including a desolator) it was not match for the numbers that Veredia possessed. The situation looked hopeless. However, surrender was not an option. Then, a solution presented itself to the commander; a possible flaw in the enemy's tactics. He had only been looking at raw numbers. Veredia had split it's formidable fleet into 3 groups to better suit the battlefield environment. However, this meant that the reinforcements would only need to take on 400-500 ships at a time, and battle-weary and damaged ones at that. Thus, a plan was hatched. The first phase was about to begin.

ic> The Warp fortress was still taking a beating. In the most recent volly, one of the main rail cannons was heavily damaged. Then, guided in by a series of Warp becons, a group of 200 Gronde vessels appeared next to the fortress, along with 250 Drone vessels. The fleet came in already in a firing position. In a well coordinated action, the fortress fired off its entire stock of ship-killer torpedos (about 4,000) into the veredian forces, at the same time, the newly arrived fleet opened up with an impressive volly of firepower. According to his calculations, the commander figured that much of the enemy sub-fleet would have been crippled by that volly. He could only hope that his prediction was correct. Either way, the newly arrived fleet slowly advanced towards their foes, firing as they went.

OOC: Note, the starkiller weapon mentioned in the comm isn't actually a starkiller, its just like a large ship, thats a very big fusion bomb (basically an extremely tiny star that goes nova, creating a relatively large explosion when compared to conventional ship weaponry. Only a handful were ever built, one was readied (I don't know if I used it though) in a previous RP with you, or Corpsac, or both, can't remember. Great for taking out groups of ships, or large defence emplacements

Admiral Kellar watched in awe as hundreds of new Gronde ships appeared in the system beside the fortress and combined with the fortress to throw overwhelming firepower at one of the three fleets. Normally, that number of drone ships and capital ships would be roughly even against the battered fleet of Veredians, but with the fortress, there was little hope.

The combined firepower obliterated some two hundred ships, despite the valiant efforts of fighters and point defence systems to cover against the thousands of torpedoes. Half the remaining number of ships were badly damaged, leaving only a regiment of combat effective, though damaged, ships and their accompanying fighter screen.

Kellar quickly activated the comm system to contact Admiral Mueller, who's flagship was miracously still in the fight. "Mueller! Get your damaged ships out of their now! Once there clear, jump to safety, we'll divert ships to cover that angle of..." Kellar stopped midsentence as the comms, on every known frequency, even the AoN ones they knew of, were flooded with singing. The singing consisted of largely an ancient Veredian battle song as the two hundred ships did a mad charge towards the fortress and new Gronde fleet.

The badly damaged ships peeled apart under fire and countless Gronde fighters and drones launched a vicious assault on the charging ships.

Admiral Mueller's flagship, the VSS Lord of the Abyss barreled through veritable fields of enemy fire, power was diverted from life support to shields, engines, and weapons as the missile magazines were quickly emptied as the Centaur tubes fired at their full rate of fire.

Fighters came in towards it and its accompyaning ships as anti-fighter fire roared to life. Pulse batteries and mass drivers sent fire ripping through the small craft as wreckages slammed into the sides of the monstrous, and now burning warship. More than half of Mueller's force was wiped out, and the other ships falling quickly, but a good three dozen ships, although a few were wreckages moving on only momentum, barrelled towards the fortress, throwing out every ECM drone and defence they had, as defensive missile screens were also thrown out, and power was diverted to maintaining shields to the front of the ships. Another sixty ships moved in amongst the Gronde ships and forced them to send their fire through their ships, hoping to cause as much friendly fire as possibly, as they tried to ram into whatever Gronde capital ship was at hand.

Kellar order his two remaining fleets to pull in and maintain a distance that would allow them to cover each other with long range fire as he reworked the rear line repair/resupply rotation to maintain an effective wall of battle. Kellar considered his options now that more than a third of his force was effectively gone, and then readied a message to Veredia, putting as many layers of encryption as he could into it.

ic> The fierce volly had literally crippled the Veredian sub-fleet. Afterwards, several ships and wreckaged barralled towards the fortress afterwards. Several Gronde warships swept them with Nova fire. The remains of those ships impacted with the fortress, causing several smaller hull breaches. Another 60 Veredian vessels surged into the grips of the Gronde fleet, hoping to gain an advantage by fighting at close range. This was a fatal error. The Gronde battleships were built with heavily armoured prows (perfect for ramming) and a surplus of accurate broadside weapons. As the enemy closed in, the veteran crews acted just as they were trained. The heaviest Gronde vessels rammed into the larger Veredian ships and opened fire with their Nova cannons. The rest of the fleet took up the proper positions and opened up with a ferious volly with their broadside weapons. Despite the close quarters, friendly fire was small.

Meanwhile, the resistance forces in the astroid field had been doing a good job of causing hell for the 2nd Veredian sub-fleet. However, following the devistating attack made at the Fortress, the fleet began to pull out to change its position. The defence leaders could not pass up this opportunity. As the relentless assult by the Veredian fleet let up briefly, the defenders sprung the attack that they had been planning for quite a while. Every Mech, every Space marine, every fighter, and every ship fired all of the ship killer missiles and torpedos that they had left. With the chaos of the situation, such organization would surely supprise the Veredian forces.

In the interest of preserving the security of the mining fields, the command activated an FTLi field to cover the entire astroid field. The only way in would be through the Warp portal.

One of the main guns had exploded and the fortress was barely holding together. Despite this, the epic Warp and rail cannons continued to launch off shots deep into the astroid field. In the command room, a meeting was in progress that could change that.

Fortress master Gerard: My fortress is beat up, I am going to need to shut it down to allow for more efficient repares.

AoN regent Stukov: We need the firepower. We can't shut down the weapons.

Gerard: If we continue at this rate, the entire fortress could be inreparably damaged! I can't take that risk. I need to shut down.

The battle seemed to be dieing down, as the Veredian ships' had fallen back into a more defensive position around their new repair area, and were picking off Gronde ships as best they could as they pulled out from behind the asteroids, and fighting a stand battle against the Skaven warships.

Then all of a sudden the fortress stopped firing, according to sensor readings, it had been shut down, its power levels dropped, and the best guess the Veredians could come up with was that it was being repaired.

The bridge crew cheered and all across the Veredian wall of battle crewmen and marines broke out into a poor, but jubilant rendition of an ancient Veredian battlesong as their spirits rose and they prepared once more to charge forth into Gronde lines.

"Admiral, I take it we are to push forward?" the lead tactical officer asked.

"Negative...Comms, spread the word, all ships are to maintain positions and ceasefire. There's been enough bloodshed uselessly for the day. Let us end this now, to the benefit of both sides" the admiral ordered.

All throughout the lines the Veredian ships ceased fire, and then Admiral Kellar opened a link to the Gronde and Skaven fleets, "Attention AoN vessels, this is Admiral Kellar, commander of the first Veredian Expeditionary Fleet. I have ordered my vessels to cease fire, this battle is simply going to turn into one of attrition, leaving more men dead than need to be, and by all accounts, the war is over. Let us put our swords and return to our homes, there is no point in us fighting here." the Admiral transmitted the message to both the Skaven and Gronde fleets.

ic> After many hours of intense battle, the astroid field was quiet at last. A lone mech sat perched on a small astroid overlooking the devistation. The defences and the new fleet were preparing defences after the shut down of the fortress. Space Marines set up new heavy weapons. The greatest warriors in the AoN still stood resolute. Shell shock was unkown to them. They expected an attack to come any minute. However, that attack never came. In fact, the scattered skirmishes began to die down. The marines didn't know why the Veredian forces stopped their firing, they didn't care either. They simply did what they were trained, kept their target sights on Veredia.

Meanwhile, the "brains" behind the operation had been descussing Veredia's message. A short message was decided uppon and sent back to Keller.

What are the terms of this ceasefire? What are you proposing?

OOC: sorry for being do late, it’s hard to respond while hiding from the teachers.
BTW, is the “layers” of ships like this:
Warp fortress, (asteroid belt) Veredia (asteroid belt), then my ships.
Is that right?

Lost: 394 Merchant vessels
62 Dauntless class cruiser
3 Styx class heavy cruiser

IC (before cease fire):
As the enemy fire poured into the skaven fleet, green light that rivaled a sun in intensity emenated from the warp-shields as they flared or died. The pulse and fusion rounds turned cruisers into strangley shaped hunks of metal as they melted then cooled. Missles lanced the ships, leaving gaping holes as the cruisers imploded on themselves. Warp-shields malfunctioned and collapsed on the ship, destroying it entirely.

OOC:
Lost: All Merchant vessels
74 Dauntless class cruiser
3 Styx class heavy cruisers
IC (continuation):
On board the ChitterBoil
The Behemoth’s own warp-shield flared lightly, but shrugged the damage off.

Snikkit was making a new paper hat, while giving paranoid glances at the old hat that was in a corner. All the while he was rambling about something around “betrayed us he did…… never again…. We’ll kill him”

From the mindless babbling raised a cohesive order, “Damage assessment you worthless piece of-of man-thing scum-scum.”

Most of the skaven still held their breath’s, scared to draw attention to themselves. A white-furred rat-man responded in a voice barley above a whisper, “Nearly a hundred cruisers, a-a handful of Styx, and the wall-wall has been destroyed.” He gathered this from reports coming in on the farsqueeker, when some form of a song took over.

Snikkit’s eyes bulged from their sockets as he stood up, the paper hat secured firmly on his head, “TURN IT OFF” he screamed in rage at the white skaven, who somehow turned even whiter. His race’s stutter (most skaven control it when they talk) emerged in full force as he spoke, squirting a heavy musk of fear, “I-I ca-ca-can’t si-sir.” Snikkit grabbed an assault rifle secured to his chair, and barked out twenty-three rounds, killing the white skaven and the far-squeeker. He went back to talking with his hat, waiting for a new farsqueeker and operator.

By the time one arrived and was working, the ship-to-ship com activated with a received message from the enemy commander.

“Communications, send-send a message back”

“Yes-yes sir”

Still, you surface dwellers baffle me. Their was still a chance for victory. What would your ruler say? Life is cheap, is it not? That aside, my fleet is going to circle around yours. All weapons will be ready to fire, sorry if this is threatening, but this is codex approach to most foreign military powers.

May our fleets clash again,
Fleet Overlord Snikkit

“Navigations, you still draw breath, if you wish to continue that action, I suggest you get the fleet moving.”

OOC: I plan on going around to a veredia-empty part of the asteroid belt, and seeing if the warp fortress needs any help or what not.

Yes, there is indeed a good chance for victory, especially with our reinforcements enroute. However, though every one of us would gladly sacrifice our lives in defence of Veredia, it is still important to us, and we do not waste it needlessly. There is no problem with your fleet moving around us.

As an admiral, I can only arrange a temporary ceasefire. Quite simply, we'll help each other repair our forces and recovered whatever salvage we can from our wrecked fleets, then we will return to Veredia. I will speak with the Prince Regent, and arrange to have a representative of Gronde, or the whole AoN even, to come to Veredia to arrange a permanent peace treaty. Hopefully we won't have a repeat of the last conference on Veredia (OOC: I think that was when Shinzu attacked Veredia if I remember correctly...fun fun lol)

ooc> Ah, yes. The good old days.

ic>Gerard read Veredia’s message. He was a warrior, as well as a commander. He wanted to achieve victory, but it was his duty to save lives. Gerard quickly realized that the only person here that would have opposed the ceasefire took a plasma round to the head only moments before.

I have considered your proposal. As a commander, it is my duty to save the lives of my men. However, I will only agree to this if it results in your ships leaving this system.

Gerard further considered the motives of Keller. With the fortress going through repairs as he stood there, it would be foolish of Keller to stall for time. Therefore, it wouldn’t be wise for Keller to try and fool him like this.

Message:
I will gladly take the bulk of my forces out of the system, however, there are salvageable Veredian ships that we can recover and tow into hyperspace, and we would also like to check for survivors. As such, it would be greatly appreciated if we were allowed to maintain a small force for a few hours to recover the salvageable vessels and search for survivors.
