OOC Note: You have to successfully apply in order to get into this RP.
Applications?: http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=365955
Time Line: This one is different than the big event ones ... 1 IRL Day equals 1 RP Week.

The Chancellor's Office:

The glorious Dominion of Nordrreich would like to extend an invitation to all sovereign nations to participate in a general diplomatic conference to resolve a variety of issues relating to the times. As the world draws together closer and closer due to telegraph communications, railroads and the expansion of national interests, we cannot pretend that other countries do not exist.

There are a number of unresolved issues in the global community, and it is the wish of the Dominion of Nordrreich that they be resolved peaceably. Therefore, all world leaders are invited to the Konigstadt Conference to engage in meaningful dialogue with each other. A failure to attend shall be taken as a sign of a lack of desire to participate in the international community.

It is the wish of the Kaiser that he hears the views of all the world's nations, regardless of previous, shall we, say, interactions with the government of Nordrreich. This conference is for the forging of a new world order, which shall lead the whole world down the shining road of progress.

Truly,
Chancellor Karl von Bulow
Osterlich

Chancellor Klemens von Kluck and his delegation moved nervously down the hall, looking around at the canvases of Nordrreich's great military victories and the constant reminders of the power and wealth of their northern neighbour. Kluck had no misconceptions regarding the relationship of his small country to the Great Power which it shared a land boundard with. It was his hope to be able to gain alliances which would secure Osterlich's meaningful independence.

He had hoped to run into the Tellacarian delegation. Their two nations had much in common, although the Tellacarians were perhaps a bit too left-wing for his personal tastes. A liberal, he was a little uneasy about the Queen's social policies and their effect on the economy. But it did aid stability, and he was proud of his small, but civilized and stable country. The Tellacarians also had a significant German population, which put them at some risk of any Greater German ambitions of Nordrreich.

He turned to one of his aides and started dictating some notes. Von Kluck was not stupid enough to directly oppose Nordrreich. He would have to make some concessions to whatever plans Nordrreich had, but he hoped that he could make those in areas that did not directly compromise his country's independence. He would also have to face the Nordrreich Chancellor with confidence, and dispel any nervousness he had.

He mumbled a quick prayer on his way. Surely God would give him the strength and wisdom he needed? He whispered a few comforting phrases from the Bible, the sounds of Scripture soothing his somewhat troubled soul. Perhaps everything would turn out well in the end. One could only hope.

The Honorable Prime Minister Johann Ritter casually walked into the great conference hall with an easy, confident stride. One of the youngest prime ministers in the world at a mere 45, Johann Ritter was known as Smilin' Jack to millions of adoring citizens. He was eager to similarly enchant the international community. Now that British Hannover had recieved the right to conduct its own foreign policy from Great Britain, Ritter looked forward to making his prosperous nation's impact felt.

Perhaps he would be able to obtain a colony in Africa or the Pacific. Certainly, he could arrange many beneficial trade treaties. Or the gratitude of the smaller nations of Europe for his defending their sovereignity. The possibilities were limitless. There was risk involved of course, but 'Smilin' Jack' had always been a gambler and was willing to take the chance. After all, he had funded his first electoral campaign with poker profits.

Due to his outspoken, cheerful personality and rugged good looks, people tended to underestimate the Prime Minister's abilities. Whether or not they were justified would depend on what happened at the Konigstadt Conference. Ritter knew that this conference would be the most important since the Congress of Europe which ended the Napoleonic Wars. He looked forward to matching wits with the other leaders of the world.

But for now, he wanted to find a nice, small country and make a personal connection. An offer they couldn't refuse.

Speaker Zhukova and her delegates moved quickly and quietly down the halls of the Nordrreich Kasier’ palace. The telegram had infuriated the Congress at the audacity of the Kaiser and his Prime Minister and brought the first doubt of loyalty among the citizens of Tellacar about their Germanic brethren when the telegram had been made public. A large influx of German immigrants had arrived into the county some months ago, mostly the agnostic communists who believed Marx had Tellacar in mind to model his system after to find out the population was generally religious. There had been questioning, but so far none seemed loyal to their former parent country.

As a non-German, Zhukova had to admit there was some suspicions. However, she trusted her people too much to dwell on the matter their might be a spy. She was too focused on the presentation she would make to Nordrreich to care. Mostly the former Russian was confused as to why their little country had been included in this. Besides the large German population, it wasn’t a majority and the resources their country had was very little. Nothing that anyone wanted to claim or not. She swore softly in Russian, her native tongue, as she and three delegates approached von Kluck. So focused she did not notice the Chancellor until one of the men with her tapped her shoulder. The former Russian looked up and saw the Chancellor, nodding warmly. “Good day,” She said in German.

Chancellor Von Kluck turned aroudn when he heard Zhukova's greeting. He offered a smile and walked over to her, shaking her hand warmly. He offered warm greetings in German, then sighed for a moment and looked at her more seriously.

'What do you think the Kaiser and his lapdog are up to now? I can't say I'm pleased about the way that things are going. Perhaps we should form a united front to preserve our mutual sovereignity? We could discuss this over a drink in the cocktail lounge?'

The steady click of reinforced boots issued down the hall as a preening young man in a gaudily overdecorated military uniform comes down the hall, with both the Tellacarian and Osterlicher leaders in his sights. His moustace seemed to curl even more as he approached them. He had a faint urge to shoot them both and claim their lands. That ought to make Father happy.

Crown Prince Frederick II offered his finest fake smile, utterly foolproof. A brilliant actor, he had enacted Richard III to rapturous applause at the university theatre. Father didn't like Shakespeare, though. He said it was not German enough. But the fact was, deep down, Frederick felt himself half an Englishman.

As he approached them, he grandly offered his right hand to shake, taking care not to emphasize the shorter, smaller left arm which was of little use. He had been born in the wrong position, and the arm had never healed correctly. His eyes flashed in what Kluck would think was merriment, but it was really desire. Desire to march into Vienna and make his modest kingdom a part of Nordrreich.

But Father didn't want that, not yet. He said it would inflame the foreigners. The Chancellor had tried to keep him away from the Conference, but he was the Crown Prince and thus nearly a Kaiser. He loved Father, but he was an old man and was probably beginning to lose his judgement. Frederick II was only twenty-seven, young, vital and eager to rule as well as reign. But he would have to wait for that chance.

For now, he would serve Father. And ensure Nordrreich's superiority in Europe forever.

The delegation from Whutehfeckia, lead personally by President Wilhelm Hendrickson, strode into the hall. The group studied other conference delegates, trying to predict what some of the nations stances would be.
Some were already known, such as Nordrreich's Imperialist expansionism. It was thought that they would soon set sights on the Straits, and it's immediate surroundings, including little Whutehfeckia. This was of great concern to the Whutehfeckian delegation. Hopefully, during this conference, they could avert that event from ever happening.

The Lightning Starian Explorer, Mushra, arrived with his crew. After spending 3 years at sea, crawling through the jungles, and crossing deserts, they had the first accurate map of Africa. They also brought a map of the Lightning Star, and had set up an area at the middle of the conference room where there was tons of space. Each area was reserved for maps of certain areas and such.

Fernando Cortez Garcia, Foreign Minister of Sangre de Cristo and John Alfred Whitte, elected speaker of the Anglo-American Congress of Sangre de Cristo stood at the entrance to the conference room.

"Europe sure is different." Speaker Whitte said in his unrefined American accent.

"Thank you for that marvelous observation..." Minister Garcia rolled his eyes.

"You are so hostile!" Speaker Whitte sighed.

"Be that as it may... We are here to find a European ally. Our nation, whether Spanish or American, is on the verge of being destroyed by either Mexico or America or both within the next few years. To stop this, we need to find a nation in Europe willing to help. But we cannot appear to be in the eroded state that our nation is in... So please, Mr. Whitte, just shut up and let me do the talking!" Minister Garcia took a heavy breath and entered the conference.

"I stand by my statement that you are hostile..." Speaker Whitte said quietly entering behind him.

'I see we have more of our fellow Americans here!' Johann Ritter grinned as he approached them. Then his voice turned a bit more serious and reflective as he went closer, offering his hand in greeting.

'I know of Sangre de Christo's problems. I think I might be able to help. We New Worlders need to stick up for each other, do we not?'

OOC: Lightning Star- I can get you some maps of 1880, although it might change with applications.

The old Kaiser walked down towards the conference hall, trying to focus his old, blurry eyes and still-sharp mind on the events at hand. This was the beginning of a golden age for the mighty nation of Nordrreich. If things went according to plan, the twentieth century would be a German century, with the mighty empire of Nordrreich dominating Europe. All that needed to be done was consolidate that power. He had plans, ones that would permanently upset Europe.

His only regret was that he would be unable to see these great changes in fruitition. He was older than the century at ninety-one and he felt that the life was slowly leaking out of his ancient bones. Already, he required the strong arm of a trusted aide to negotiate these lengthy hallways. Soon, he would require a minister to read over his grave.

It was ironic, really, that such a young and powerful nation should have such an old and physically weak monarch. Frederick Wilhelm knew, however, that the Konigstadt Conference would make or break his legacy. Nordrreich's power and glory depended upon securing an advantageous result here.

Alas, it was not to be. A crushing sensation caught him in his chest as he fell to the ground, crying out in pain and surprise. His son .... was he ready ... could he rule? His aide caught his fall, and another rushed to find the physician. But it was too late. The old Kaiser was dying.

He found the strength to close his eyes and force himself into peace. Though outwardly it was a grimace of pain, inwardly he was smiling. He'd always wanted to meet God.

"Come, Mubarak! We are late!" said the ambassador to his aid. It had taken them 17 days to arrive, even WITH the trans-continental rail-road created by Ikbar the Grand 32 years earlier. The men were escorted by 35 scimitar-weilding, turban wearing, gotee bearded soldiers. At their head was the most feared soldier in all of the Empire, Muhammad. He had played a vital role in defeating the Persian army of 200,000 which had invaded 4 years earlier by killing 217 of the soldiers Single-handedly, and in the process killed the leading general, the Persian Kind Darius XXIV, 3 lesser generals, and destroyed 10,000 rifles, 50 cannon, and 24 machine guns as well as tons f gunpower and ammo by throwing a match into a weapons stockpile.

As the men walked by countless delegates, they found the one from British Hanover talking with the delegate of "Sangre de Cristo". "Hello!" he called, and walked towards him.

Johann Ritter immediately stopped his friendly banter when he heard the Kaiser was dead. This was not a good sign. He turned immediately to Mubarak, immediately setting his face in a grimly workmanlike position. Mourning the Kaiser could come later. This was the time to confirm and react.

'Dead you say? How?' He immediately asked. The conference due to begin shortly might have to wait for a bit.

In the Conference Building

Muhammad walked slowly towards the room where the Kaiser had died. He was all alone as well. As he walked past huge pictures of German culture, the man thought to himself. These Europeans are so obsessed with pictures. Pictures of this, pictures of that! Why can't they be simple like us and decorate stuff with elaborate words and tiles, like we do! As he thought and walked at the same time, there was someone lurking him from the shadows. The man was near invisible. You would need to know where to look and you would need a flashlight to see him. And you would need a 50 foot tall ladder, for he hid at the very top of the hall in an un-light corner. "Excelent" the man thought to himself. "Now i shall get my revenge for what you did to Persia all those years ago!" a moment later, a small dart whizzed through the air. 20 seconds later, Muhammad lay dead on the floor, blood oozing out of his mouth, eyes, nose, and ears.

"Dead? The Kaiser's dead?" Wilhelm was shocked. They had been used to the old Kaiser's style, and were ready to confront it for the conference. They alomst nothing about the Crown Prince. Would he try diplomacy? Brute force? Money?

The President ran a hand through his graying hair. What to do?

The Chancellor had learned of the Kaiser's death. He bowed his head, in a strange combination of genuine sorrow at his death and guilt for having secretly caused it. He felt much less guilty about slipping millions of thalers to Persia in order to keep Lightning Star in its place. This was the stuff of politics. It was a dirty business.

Karl von Bulow walked calmly and determinedly down the hall of the conference chamber in order to tell the young Crown Prince the bad news. That his father was dead and he would be Kaiser of Nordrreich. He figured the young man would be easy to manipulate. He was young, vain and more interested in hunting and railroad schedules than ruling. Or so he thought at least.

The Estholadian delegation, consisting of Spokesman Dahas, Chancellor's representive Sir Magnus Ålborg, a few advisors and 5 guard's was slowly walking through the great hall toward's the Congress room.
The guard's were indeed a sight. Everyone was over 2 meter's tall and had long beards reaching their waists. They had long chain mail covering their body, and had ancient horned helmet's in their heads. Also they had huge battle axe's tied on their backs. They were member's of chancellor's personal guard, a ceremonial troop that had long tradition's.

"These Norddrechian's seem to be a rich people with valuable culture. But from what i hear theyre rather imperialist power. Could be a danger to our union", Dahas said to Ålborg
"Yes indeed.. i'd say we should try to find other European allies in order to maintain our sovereignity and hold of Baltic sea."
"But now... let's enter the council room and see how many countries are represented here."

"E-gads! Who could have done it?"
"Well, we found a Halapja dart in his spine."
"Halapja? You mean... Persians?!?!?!"

The Crown Prince heard the new from his most trusted friends, Phillip Eulenburg and Erich von Manstein. One was the son of a promenient Jewish banking family in Dresden, and the other was the adopted son of a promenient military family. Neither of them would have gone far in the old Kaiser's Nordrreich or the one that Bulow planned to forge. Eulenberg was Jewish and Manstein was half-Polish. However, both were talented, intelligent and ambitious men that were also the best friends and trusted aides of the Crown Prince.

Frederick II, reigning Kaiser as of twenty minutes ago faced his first crisis of rule. His father's murderers would be found and punished most severely. But first, the entire city needed to be locked down. Within hours, the entire city would be locked down and the fifty thousand man garrison of the city would be patrolling the streets. He had broken contact with the Osterlicher and Tellacarian ambassadors immediately upon hearing the news.

He had his suspicions. Although it was possible that Father had simply died of natural causes, he knew that he had enemies, like all powerful men. He had also heard that one of the emissaries of Lightning Star had been killed. Needless to say, he had a sizeable personal guard around him ... the Konigstadt Grenadiers. All men over six foot three, handpicked for personal strength and armed with the newest weapons and intimidating black uniforms, fifteen Grenadiers accompanied him, Eulenberg and Manstein wherever he went.

The new Kaiser issued orders to two of the Grenadiers. All the diplomats were to be either kept in the conference rooms or escorted back to their hotel rooms. Nobody could leave the city. If they wanted something, within reason, it would be brought to them. The Kaiser was not a bad host. But he was a son who had just lost his father, and a new monarch in a diplomatically tense situation. He didn't want to offend anybody, but he'd rather run that risk than have murderers get free and his resolution questioned.

Now, to find the Chancellor. And collect information from his spies. Eulenberg looked at him. Him and Phili did not need to exchange words. It was time to see what diverting half of your income to building up a seperate intelligence network from government channels could do.

OOC> Lightning Star- Couldn't help it! Big conspiracies are fun ... and you might be able to see where this is going ...

Johann Ritter was now very glad of his habit of carrying a small, concealed gun wherever he went. Usually dismissed as a backwards trait picked up during his time in the Western provinces, Ritter knew that sometimes being too civilized made you vulnerable. He sat on a comfortable chair in the conference room as the soldiers started coming in. He knew Nordrreich had a huge standing army, over half a million, and it felt like all of them were in the Templehof Palace, roaming the conference rooms.

He had heard that the old Kaiser and one of Lightning Star's emissaries had died. One of seemingly natural causes and a clear assassination. A simple political conference had become much more serious, a literal matter of life and death. He was curious as to what the new Kaiser would do.

Although he was a young man for national leadership at forty-six, he was still almost twenty years older than Frederick II. Ritter had met him once and he was impressed by the Crown Prince's intelligence and resolution, less impressed with his quick temper and vanity. There was no doubt he could be an able ruler, but he was also mercurial, nearly to the point of mental instability. Hopefully a strong Chancellor could temper those tendencies.

On board the train to Karachi.

The Ambassador looked out of his window at the snowy fields outside. They were currently in the area of the Ukraine, and it was mid-winter, so of course it was snowing. Snow, he thought to himself. One of Allah's more needless, if not more beautiful, creations.. After eating a basic breakfast, a Japati(which is the south-asian version of a tortilla) with butter and sugar, an armed guard came in. "My liege, you are being summoned" said the guard.
"Alright, tell the Prince I am coming!" replied the Ambassador as he headed towards the front of the train.

"Hello, father." said the Prince as the Ambassador entered the room.
"This guise worked EXCELENTLY son! You're as cunning as a fox!"
"Thank you, father. Tell me, did the Persians tip their hand and kill 'Muhammad'?"
"Of course! Putting a convict in his clothing was brilliant! So while the Persians think they've killed our greatest hero, all they did was kill some rapist!"
"I have troubling news though."
"Yes?"
"We have reports that the assassin could have gotten information from the...inside."
"From the Nodrreichians?"
"I am afraid so."
"Hmmmm. Well, we musn't tip our hand so soon. Besides, this was probably a move by an independant faction, not the Kaiser himself."
"That's true. Come, father. Now we plan the Invasion of Persia!"

"I beg your pardon!?" Fernando Garcia turned to sneer at his 'colleague'. "I refuse to dignify that comment with a response. Good evening!" he stormed off in a direction, zig zaging through the herd of soldiers pouring through the palace.

"Now that the hypocrite diplomat is gone..." Speaker Whitte said to Johann Ritter. "We can talk. Hypothetically, if the Anglo Settlers of Sangre de Cristo were to stage a coup d'etat, what would British Hannover's position be?" he smiled casually.

OOC: Hmmm? Listen, i dont think even Nodrreich would screw with the largest muslim Empire in the world. Besides, MY man was the one assassinated! Plus, if he DID try to stop me, the Ambassador would reveal himself as the Emir, his 300 Armed Riflemen/guards would come out, and not to mention the REAL Muhammad(the one that slew 227 Persians with a scimitar, including their ruler), would jump out and scare the SHIT out of the Germans. =D!

On the Persia/TLS border

The Lightning Starian Army had gathered at the border with their Persian neighbors. Before they were to attack, the Prince, who was also their General, stood up at the front and yelled.

"Soldiers of Allah, our time has come to get revenge on the Pagan scum to our west! For too long have they tried to destroy us, the Holy Empire! Today, we begin the assimilation of the pagans, and rid them from Allah's grand earth! Forward, and may Allah's hand bring us swift victory!"

And then the Vast army of nearly 150,000 men began marching towards Persepolis.

"Excelent! The 7 Iron Men o' Wars are on there way this instant. With these we shall surely gain some support. And the other 20 are too be finished by the end of this week! Hurry, send a telegram to ACOM saying that those 20 are to be sent to the Americas ASAP. Vera Cruz is looking mighty fine today...

OOC: Just so you guys know, the Ironclad Men o' Wars are pre-dreadnoughts. They are stronger and faster than regular Men o' War, but much weaker than a dreadnaught. And since dreadnaughts arent going to be invented for at LEAST 20 years, my ships are very advanced.

Oh, so you guys don't go overboard saying "Hey man! Your taking over WWWWWWAAAAAYYYY TOO much!", I plan to have my empire get SOOOO large that it eventually is too big, like the Roman Empire was. I guess you guys know what comes after that.

Off the coast of Portobelo, Panama

The Seven Ikbar Class Warships, along with 40 regular ships, appeared on the horizon at 6:52 in the morning. ACOM had wisely decided to send the telegram to the TLS Ambassador in Konigstadt to distract the spies they knew were tapping their wires. The ships had really left over 4 weeks earlier, and since they were some of the swiftest in the world they went totally un-noticed. The Columbians(Panama was part of Columbia at the time) were totally un-aware that this fleet was approaching, and they could do nothing to stop it. at 8:00, the SHips opend fire on the great fort of Portobelo. For the next four hours, a cannon battle ensued, and at 1:00 over 20,000 land forces landed and overwhelmed the 1,000 defenders.

The Army and fleet have now set up camp in Portobelo. The 40,000 soldiers that went on the expedition have now landed, and they are preparing to conquer the city of Colon. Over 10,000 Local Panamanians have joined the ranks of the Army, seeing how they have chaffed under the rule of Columbia.

OOC: I live in Panama, so i know how to do this realistically. Oh, and me ships are based off of the Calliope kind.

The Persian Front
The Home Army has overrun a large percentage of Persian land even though it has only been 3 days since the invasion. Swift Cavalry, well trained troops, and the Element of surprise have played a key role. The Persian Army isn't expected to clash with the Army for at least 2 days.

Konigstadt

Mubarak awoke to a flurry of activity in his office.
"Sir! The Congolesse tried to invade Mozambique Again!"
"Sir! Portobelo has fallen!"
"Sir! We've already gotten far into Persian Territory!"
"Sir! The Ironclads have defeated the Columbian Navy!"
"Sir! The Per...."
"SHUT UP!" He cried. 'I can't take it all in at once! Ok, now from the top, what has happend?" The men then re-said what they had stated before.
"This is too much... the army is over-stretched! How are we going to create an army large enough?!?" he said. Just then, the messenger from the Telegramoffice arrived.
"Sir! The Emir has begun a conscription and is calling for 30,000 Auxilliaries to be raised in Panama!"
"Oh Allah..." said Mubarak.

OOC> I don't think this is working out right now. Maybe we should reboot, get some better rules to work with before starting again? It's a good premise, but things are moving too fast for some of us, I think. And it's more than partly my fault for doing so. Maybe we should all discuss a better way to go about this? I'm open to ideas and suggestions here.

I've had reasonably extensive RP experience, but admittedly it's been on a different medium (IRC or IRL) and a slightly different sort (ie, being a GamesMaster of some sort). Maybe what I'm saying is that a bit more planning was needed.

Maybe we sould've had a full map of all the contries, PC and NPC... I dunno.

I actually found a real 1880 map ... problem is that I find I can't upload, since i'm translating it from the page to Paint. And I think a new thread is maybe a better place to put these suggestions. Hence, Mr. Fixit and the magical link!

OOC: I'm glad we're starting over. I find Lightening Star a pompus idiot. In 1898 the world was shocked and amazed that THE UNITED STATES could carry out a Naval Attack upon a Spanish Fleet off the Phillipines. In the same year, the British Empire had trouble supplying armies fighting the Boers in Africa. The very idea that a nation based in Pakistan (An area with very few natural resources for 19th century warmongering) could attack Columbia is purposterous. Not to mention it would take over 8 months to sail a fleet with a fully armed military force and all it's supplies half way around the world at this time. The fastest ship in the world in 1880 could barely go 17 knots!

Furthermore, the point of RPing is to say something, then let others reply, not post three events happening in a row and not give people a chance to reply.

It wasn't going well because you weren't following the rules. The point of the coneference was to set the stage for the Imperialism of nations for the next few years. You, however, just came in, killed someone, then left. Perhaps if you had actually read the point of this RP you would have realised that.

And since you took the noobie way, and played the power card, I'll play one of my own. This IS Sangre de Cristo. Hows that for big, expierenced nations? I like to create little nations for the point of each RP. Not use the big ones I have in place.

You, on the other hand, act as if you are a lordly high superpower thats been playing this game for the last thousand years!

And, if you remember, im not the one who started the killing. IT was Nordrreich. Besides, i never even invaded oen of your countries! the most far-fetche dthing i did was invad Panama! Thats it!

I dont care! You arent as experienced in RP as me!

Listen, as i said before, the most far-fetched thing i did was invade panama! All you could have said was "dude-invading Panama is impossible" and i would have changed it!

There were a lot of problems with the thread, but personal attacks don't solve anything. I think the effort would be better spent making it a better RP, and maybe in the thread I started for that purpose? I'd rather do that than play the blame game, as corny as that sounds.

I'm not acting like some crazy superpower, I'm reminding you of the logistics of the 19th century. I happen to be a Historian with an expertise in this field, and you were just going off the deep end.
