A Little History
Even though it has been known in Sigma Octavus that there was a rogue religious order in the mountain ranges of the great nation, the military never touched them. The reason for this is simple. They couldn't. After nearly a thousand men were lost trying to shut down their rogue operations, the government declared their section of the mountains Class V protection zones. This area is the second such zone, the first being the city of Parino.
After inserting several agents within the order, the military began to understand who the people capable of holding off the SOMI that assaulted their monestary. They were a group of highly skilled fighters who worshipped their own gods. Malori, their god of weapons and fighting, is the primary figure in their beliefs. The other major gods they believed in were the two dieties they call Liora, goddess of life, and Pramura, god of death.
They have an elite warrior caste, aside from the smaller group of women, children and men who deal with food, water, construction and things of that sort. These warriors, who called themselves the "Death Templar", had developed a special fighting style utilizing handguns as the primary weapon. The style was derived from an ancient style that used daggers, a style that had been discovered through the excavations of ancient Sigman ruins.
The basis of stories that the SOMI told of single warriors taking on a dozen soldiers at about 10 feet was confirmed. Amongst the thousand dead, only four were the deceased of these warriors. This intrigued the military greatly. Warriors such as these could be extremely useful in battle.
The style maximized the warriors abilities to make themselves hard-to-hit targets by constantly weaving and spinning, their continuously firing weapons taking down scores of enemies. It is a beautiful art, completely devastating to those targeted by the user.
Death Templar approached
After several years of observation, a decision was made to approach the Death Templar with a proposition. Their warriors teach SOET this style, as well as fighting for the country, and the government will financially support their religion, allowing them to grow and spread their message. They would not be an official religion, but they would be recognized as a legal organization dedicating themselves to one or more dieties.
The leaders of the religion were more than willing to accept this proposition, and have moved their operations throughout Sigma Octavus over the past few years.
The first generation of Templar trained SOET, named the Death Legion, are soon to be put into service, issuing in a new age in battlefield combat. Several elite squads of Death Templar have been put into service lately, as the soon-to-be SOET are not nearly as trained in the art as the full Death Templars.
The Death Legion as well as the squads of Death Templar are expected to do great things, ushering in a new age in the capability of soldiers on a battlefield.
