( research 8/30 complete)
>News Brief Commences<
In a development that left the population of the Dominion in a state of shock, Godular sent its first manned craft into space yesterday, raising flurries of questions amongst Governate and Citizen alike.
"I didn't even know we HAD a space program!" Archona Governate Harrumphmeister Korel Aktei stated when asked for comment. "Then, all of a sudden, some new jet pops out of a small hangar at Archona International, and just heads up. And up. And up! And then Cassius tells us at our daily meeting that we just sent our first manned aircraft into orbit! I was like, what the hell?"
"When I told them about what happened, every damn one of them 'cept for The Twelfth One were like 'what the hell?!'" declared Cassius Longarm, Grand Poobah of Godular. "I laughed my head off."
"You see, this is actually just a small thing for us. We were just trying to test out the capabilities of this new engine we've developed as part of our recent... research activities. Turns out this engine has a TREMENDOUS fuel efficiency (Cassius snickered at this point), and it can operate in both atmospheric and vacuum environments! We were just trying to see how high it could fly, truthfully.
"The engine itself operates off of... oh, how should I put it... spatial flux? Think warp drive but fer sub-FTL velocities, freaky stuff, I know. We think the max velocity that thing can put out on our Godulan D-35 Longbow is about 1200 mph. Now, by some standards, that may not be all that great, I know that the SR-71 can reach what... 3200 mph? Mach 5-ish, I think. Thing is, the damn Longbow maintains surprisingly good maneuverability at max speed, but I suspect that's as much due to the Longbow's backwards wing design, or whatever the hell they call it, as it is to the engine's dynamics. It can also maintain max for a lot longer than normal.
"We're gonna take a while to work out the kinks for a bit, seems there was a bit of a wobble at a rather odd spot in the trip."
After the initial shock faded, the streets filled in what can only be characterized as half "What the hell?!" and half "We rock!" emotions as virtually the entire Godulan populace celebrated this under-advertised achievement.
Godulan Intermedia wishes to express its disgust at not being given an exclusive to the launch.
Cassius' Note: Too bad! Nyeah nyeah!
