GII News Bulletin

"Good evening, and welcome to GII News, the only station that gives you the unbiased truth according to the Emperor. I'm John Strokov.

The Imperial government issued a most startling statement today, announcing Emperor Alexei II's intention to reinstate gladiatorial combat as an official entertainment form of The Empire.

The bloodsport has long been an underground amusement in the provinces, but has been outlawed for years in Generia proper. This edict will see the games returning to their rightful place in Generia City.

Plans for construction of an enormous coliseum-like stadium are underway, and the structure is set to be completed by early March. Be sure to stick with GII News Network for more updates. GII News, we just have to look good, we don't have to be clear. Now on to the weather..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the southern senatorial capital of Sofia, senator Markus Ivanov sat at a table in an open air cafe. A half empty bottle of Scotch sat on the table, along with an ashtray full of extinguished cigarettes. The smoke trailed into the air, as the senator's hand cut through the cloud, bringing a shot glass to his lips, draining the liquid.

The senator slammed the glass onto the table, as a second man, dressed in a business suit, took a seat across from Ivanov. The second man held a flyer in his hands, and wore an expression of distaste. He flipped the piece of paper to Ivanov.

"Look at this. What the hell is he doing now?"

Ivanov took the flyer, and scanned it. He let out a dry chuckle.

"He's smarter than he looks."

"What are you talking about? Did you read it?"

"Of course, and I think Alexei knows what he's doing."

The second man replied with scorn in his voice.

"How?"

"What better way to drive the memories of his 'glorious coup de tat than by brining back the people's sports?"

"But it's barbaric!"

"Of course it is, and that's why everyone loves it. By bringing the barbarism to them, they needn't watch their televisions to see the barbarism of Alexei's armies in the Ukraine and Buchiana. It's simply a control mechanism, Peter."

"Have you no decency?"

"I'm not saying I condone it, but we damn well better not condemn it. This man is no rightful and just Emperor. He is a usurper, and what's to stop him from throwing out the constitution (Antonius's constitution at that) and disbanding the senate? I suggest we carry on about our business, and give the people their distractions."

Peter's mouth curled into an expression of disgust. He snorted, stood up, and walked off into the crowds that had gathered to read the many flyers.

OOC:Give them Bread and the Colloseum and they will happy...

The Iron Concordiat of Wirraway is quite irked by re-institution of a barbaric practice which we belived to have died out centuries ago, apparently we were mistaken and it is obvious some nations (read rulers) have not advanced beyond the barbarism of years past.

OOC: I'm not hostile to you now GE, just the new ruler, as you know I still support Antonius I, so I will not look kindly on this new regime.

OOC: True, I'd love to RP a gladiator fight, I've always been partial the retarius (sp?) the guy with the trident and the net, maybe I'll send one of my special ops guys to participate.

We would like to send several Achelosaurs to participate in these new gladiatorial battles. They are large and deadly they should be perfect. For more info I posted a thread on it. Dinos Alive and Well in Camel Eaters.

Of course, for such a glorious leader and friend of Generia as yourself, no purchase of tickets shall be necessary to any of the games. Upon completion of the Coliseum, all you shall need to do is simply say who you are, and you shall pass free of charge, to join the Emperor in his personal box.

Achilles Brown, Coordinator of the Concordiat would like to attend these games. The official statement issued earlier was an error and the responsible party shall be accompanying the Coordinator on his journey and will then be used in the games as gladiator.

We have also brough along a true Gladiator, Tancred Goveler. Tancred has served in the Special Forces for over 10 years and is also a Roman history afficiando. When he heard about the games we could not refuse him his chance to live out his dreams. He chooses to fight as a Retarius. If this is acceptable please inform us.

Official Imperial Statement

You mean it used to be illegal? Pffft.

((OOC: It was an underground sport for a while, not technically legal, but never stopped or condemned. Since it was only found in the provinces, it created excellent business opportunities for secretly government-employed traffickers and slavers, thus becoming an excellent source of income for the Empire. Now, it's been revived and re-legalized as it's use as a political and social tool outweigh the necessity of it's use as a government cash cow.))

I would suggest buying one of my battle creatures. They're very effective. You know what seeing as we're allies have one for free. Also do you want the chemical that keeps it sane and gives ti the ability to think and speak or do you want the insane berserker? Also quick note they use heat as a weapon when one's going all out it has the force of a forest fire.

The beast sounds fascinating. We will take some of the chemicals, although we may choose not to use them.

Ah, the Emperor rejoices! He is excited about the prospects of seeing gladiatorial games within another nation besides his own. He humbly request that you grant him attendance to such a glorious, and lavish event that Emperor Alexei II has reinstated.
