The government of Al Anbar today announced that they had arrested 450 members of the Shi'ite underground 'Islamic Dawa Party'. The Islamic Dawa Party, which was declared illegal in the late 1970's by the government of Al Anbar for their cooperation with the Iranians and assassination attempts on the leaders of Al Anbar, has recently surfaced again, although with little support within Al Anbar.
General Abdul Mahmoud al-Tikriti, commander of the Republican Guard's Northern Corps, said in a statement today: "The government of Al Anbar, acting on information by the citizens of the cities of al-Basra, an-Nassiriyah, and Kerbala, have arrested approximately 450 members of the illegal and criminal organization known as the "Islamic Dawa Party."
The Islamic Dawa website, approximately two hours after this, placed a statement on their website declaring that the government of Al Anbar "had, indeed, arrested members of the Dawa Party, but they will be reveneged! Onward with the attacks against Al Anbar's illegal government!" However, six hours after that, the website was unreachable and is likely under a DoS attack - a Denial of Service attack - by the government of Al Anbar.
We have no information about the whereabouts of the Islamic Dawa members and the govenrment of Al Anbar has repeated what was said at the news conference this morning.
