Indiana Jones and the Golden Fleece (Closed RP)

Marshall College, New York, 1947

"Remeber students, archaeology always begins in a library. One cannot just go galavanting through the desert with a shovel and expect to find something." Dr. Jones glanced up at the clock, "Alright, I will see all of you on Thursday. Remember to read Michaelson, Chapter 7 for the exam next Monday!"
The students quickly shuffled out. Dr. Jones' class was composed mostly of young men looking for adventure and young girls fawning over the famous Dr. Jones. Indy was getting older, and for the first time the thought of retirement had crossed his mind. Just then, a symbol of Indy's age walked in, Edwin Broody, the son of the late Marcus Broody.
"Edwin, what brings you by here?" he said.

EDIT: Change from Marcus to Edwin Broody

Lavender attempted to juggle the pile of books, her bag, a cup of coffee and the library door handle, while her glasses slid down her nose again. Grasping the cup between her teeth she gave the door a most unladylike kick and hustled her way through the gap. Having repeated the technique for the next door opening into the humanities building she once again made it through the doorway, but not before her bag fell off her shoulder and dangled annoyingly from her wrist forcing that hand to let go of the books and drop the bag to the floor. The effort to save the old books was wasted, as they spilled from her grip and fell with a cloud of dust onto the floor. 'Drat' she thought, and abandoned her coffee regretfully to the nearest rubbish bin before attempting to collect her thesis research from the corridoor floor. Suddenly she blushed as she realised almost all conversation had stopped in the near-empty History wing and the remaining people were staring at her. "Er..Sorry," she muttered as she knelt down to pick up the scattered books, glaring at the guy who lived in the opposite apartment to her who was laughing openly. 'Just because you're doing your Masters in Jurisprudence doesn't make you any better than me.'

ooc: yes I did. I don't know what to do with her as yet, she can be a lead, be it hero or anti if you like, or she can just follow along for the mo. All that has been established is that she's a postgrad with old books currently in the history wing of Indy's uni. Btw is my use of '...' for thoughts ok?
Kaufmanstad

Cool, very cool. '...' are cool for thoughts, and how about we make Lavender Indy's secretary or something.

"Indy, you will never belive what i heard."*said Edwin enthusiastically, showing his fathers love of archeology. He walked over to Indy and pulled him aside as if to tell him a secret.*
"Rumors been going around, they say a US spy was downed over in Bosnia or Croatia, or somewhere over there by Soviet territory. But thats nothing Indy ! i heard Stalin was looking for the golden fleece, surely you know of it !"*he said a bit loud and excited, but he attempted to contain his excitment.*

"Don't tell me you're buying into rumor, Edwin." Indy said as he crossed his arms. "The Golden Fleece, hmmm." Indy began to ruminate. "Well, what else do you know? Is there any backing to this? I mean, I can't go galavanting around the world like I used to." Edwin suddenly looked down, dejected. Indy rolled his eyes, "Tell me more, is there someone we can talk to?"

ooc:the secretary thing wouldn't work seeing I said she's a postgraduate student, but Indy could be her supervising tutor.

ic: Lavender had finally gathered her books into a pile on the floor, then realised that picking them up while keeping her bag on her shoulder would mean using everything she learned in the deportment class to prevent the male students seeing more of her legs than they should. 'Oh for trousers again! Chauvinistic male oppressors. So much for gentlemanly manners.' Abandoning her hope that someone would give her some help she desperately cast her eyes about for something to use to help her keep her balance.

As they were talking, Indy heard a struggle going down the hall, "Hold that thought, Edwin." Indy leaned his head out the door and saw Lavender attempting to juggle a load of books while going down the corridor. "Lavender, you need some help with that?" Indy took some of the books out of her arms and walked with her. "Come, Edwin." Indy said.

"Yes, yes im coming"*said Edwin, hurring down the hall.* "Indy, i, i mean, you got a telegram from youre old friend, Sallah, he said that..."*he looked and noticed Lavender.*"Please, forgive me M'lady."*he said, as he walked around the other side of Indy.* "He said that there has been alot of activity, many workers have been shiped to the Black sea area, he says he suspects foul play. I meant to tell you sooner, but i got chaugt up in other affairs."*Said Edwin, who slipped Indy a small folder with a telegram in it.* "But i was hoping you would know someone to talk to, you are the archeologist and all.... I will let you think about it, whatever you decide i am behind you one-hundred and ten percent Indy."*said Edwin, in a lowered voice.*

Lavender nearly laughed out loud. 'M'lady? I'm only a couple of years older, he must have been brought up fairly isolated. The Sun rises for the benefit of the Professor the way he gazes at him.' She let the undergrad talk until there appeared to be a break in the conversation.
"Excuse me Professor Jones. Thank you for helping me with my books, but I was actually on my way to talk about the archeological evidence for the Cult of the goddess Nephele with you but you are obviously busy, should I sit and wait in your room or return later?"
Kaufmanstad
18-10-2004, 03:05
"Yeah, wait..." began Indy, he was not paying attention as he began to read the telegram.

Dr. Jones:
Soviet, by name of Vorilov, digging in Northern Turkey. They not say who they really work for. They look for Greek City. Very aggressive. Broken many vases.
-Sallah

Indy stopped and studied the telegram. Almost on cue, a man in a dark suit came out of a side corridor.
"Dr. Jones, I presume? I'm Philip Coblentz, National Intelligence Authority," he flashed a badge, "We need to talk."

OOC: Someone want to pick up this brief role?

"We have a situation that is right in your area of expertise, Dr. Jones." Coblentz said. He glanced at the telegram in Indy's hand. "Your contact is indeed right, the Soviet's name is Vorilov, Colonel Yevgeni Vorilov. The Red Army has interest in some artifact called the Golden Fleece. The point is, Dr. Jones, we want to know what the Golden Fleece is, and what the hell the Red Army wants with it. That's where you come in, Dr. Jones. . .

OOC: How's that?

OCC: That's really good!
IC:

Indy let it turn through his mind, "Let's go to my office, Mr. Coblentz, its a little more private." He motioned for Edwin and Lavender to follow.
Arriving at his office, Indy shut the door, "Any student of Greek mythology will tell you that the Golden Fleece was the hide of a large, golden ram sacrificed to Zeus. The Fleece was subsequently placed in an oak tree where it was retrieved by Jason and his Argonauts. Some lesser known legends say that the Fleece was endowed with some of the powers of Zeus, namely everlasting life, and incredible supernatural powers. It seems to me that the fleece, if it exists, would be in Greece, not Turkey, unless the Soviets know something we don't." Indy then went over to a stack of papers on his desks, and pulled out a small notebook.
"Recently, I've been doing research on the Byzantine saint George of Antioch. He recounts of a high valley somewhere in what is today Romania that held a castle built on top of an out-of-place Greek temple. Old Saint George was very observant, and remarked that the floors of the castle were 'immensley old,' what was the name...?" Indy flipped through the book, "ah, it was called, Jasonstinople. I believe we should start there."

Lavender turned to Professor Jones with shining eyes. "I'm sure you're well aware of the role of Nephele and the history of the Golden fleece, if it wasn't for her, Zeus would never have sent the Golden Ram to rescue her children. If there was an expedition in the North Eastern part of Greece in this 'Jasontinople' who knows what artifacts concerning her cult could be found!" she said, ever thinking of her thesis. Ignoring the imposing stranger, forgetting in her interest the reason for his presence she asked "Is it very high up?" Remembering there were non-historians in the room she added, "She was an unusal nymph you know, made from cloud by Zeus to ensnare a mortal."

Edit: misread something, made changes that changed nothing but made things make sense...if you know what I mean...

"So your accepting this task, Dr. Jones?" Coblentz smiled as he handed Indy a folder. "This contains what information we have on the Russians, your travel reservations, a number with which to contact me, and money for whatever expenses you may have. Good luck. . ." He stood, shook Indy's hand and walked out.

"Wait. Did what just happen really happen, or am I dreaming? We're going to Greece, an agent of some sort wandered into the university, he wants us to go and is paying for the trip, and I won't just be relying on these scarce books?" Lavender said as she dazedly picked up a musty book and fingered the pages.

ooc: Jeez I'm feeling sick of my nerdy character, I hope I'm not like this in rl. Getting out of the uni environment soon would be good before I kill my character off in sheer disgust!

OOC: I'm going to throw in some adventure, don't you worry!

"Well, let's get packing, kids." Indy picked up a newspaper he intended to read at lunch and flipped through it, "The next train for New York City, and a plane to Europe, leaves at five pm."

At five, Indy, Lavender and Edwin gathered at the station [Marshall College is in upstate NY] and prepared to board.
Before they got on a man, whose face was hidden by his up-turned coat collar brushed up against Indy and pressed a large roll of cash into his chest and said in a thick Russian accent, "Do not board da train, Comrade Doktor." and then walked away.

I'm waiting for someone to RP a Soviet Agent who will try to sabotage the train.

I'm still a little busy, someone want to fill this part?

(ooc:I TGed a person who wanted to play the soviet camp leader guy, that was more than a week or so ago though,so i will play the part of the soviet sabotuer if its okay...)
*As the train undergoes normal checking before departure, a short man walks to the train, dressed in a normaly, dirty, oily atire fit for a mechanic, he walks to the trains engine and walks into the main engine compartment, the conducter wasnt on the train yet, so it was free game. He had with him a small saw, a pocket knife, a hammer, a small can of oily grease, and a screw driver, along with a few nails and screws. Firstly, he went about the speedometer, he unscrewed it quickly and nailed in a nail to keep the speedometer from crossing the thirty MPH mark, he then put some oil on the back side of the small piece of glass used to view the speedometer, then he put it back togather and put it back in. He then sighted the Brake, a prime target. He got his hammer after it and hammered viciously, it cause a loud noise, but it didnt escape the train engine, if it did, the people in the train station would be to busy to hear it. Then came the horn, he greased a few nails and somehow shoved them up in the conducters part of the horn, once it was sounded, it would be pierced and unuseable. He then went about sabotouging the brake, he drew his pocket knife and put several holes in the brake fluid line, then went about unscrewing the actual brake, then the conducted came aboard and saw him, then questioned him.*
" 'Ave i seen you b'for ?"*asked the conducter*
"No c.. friend, i am just doing a last minute check, evreything seems in check."*he said in a russian accent.*
"Good 'nough. Bugger off."*said the Conducter, the man nodded and made a dash out of the engine room, and through the train station., accadentaly knocking into Indiana, whom he didnt know who it was at the time, the man got up, bowed in apologies, and continue to run away.*
