- The Commonwealth of Granzi, a Suburb of Granzi City –

In a large house with many unlabeled trucks outside…

“Alright boys…” Jaxek Jaxus of the Jaxus Nine terrorist group started saying to his crew. “Here is the plan. We have nine trucks total outside. Eight, each with the cargo bays loaded with explosives. The last one has the most destructive power, with some special stuff we managed to obtain. We’ll all head through Granzi City, before turning toward Hybalt Defense Industries (HDI). Once we reach the gate, they will probably refuse to let us in, so 8 operatives will jump from each truck, and the mounted guns will pop out. After decimating security that stands in our way, ground troops will proceed, walking alongside the trucks.”

He paused. “Once we have passed that objective marker, we will be splitting up into three groups. One truck with it’s troop escort & double mounted guns will keep going straight, toward the main HDI office complex in the center of the facility. Their job will be to decapitate the executives of Hybalt.

Jaxus turned to another group. “Four will go on either side of the warehouses, two each, on both the left and right. On one side, the left, two will make an early turn in the direction of the Granzi Shipyards and its drydocks and slipways. The other two on the right will proceed to the waterfront and manufacturing facilities. Detonate after reaching you targets.” The second team nodded.

“On the other side, four trucks will proceed north and two will make an early turn into the Developmental and Research Department. There will a large laboratory complex, our third largest target, with the executive leadership being the first and the shipyards being the second. The other two will proceed up to the top right of the city. We’ll have the entire place in a firestorm, after encircling it.”

”Any questions? No? Good. Lets get ready, boys.”

Over a hundred Jaxus Nine terrorist organization troops went to the back of the large house, which was dubbed “JN HQ”. At the back was the equipment center and cache. Sokol-31s, XR-2s, Steyr .50 HS sniper rifles, and a lot more weapons to get ready for the attack. Once everyone was equipped, they went outside and loaded up into nine different tanks. Off the group went to seal the fate of Granzi.

- West Entrance to HDI –

Before the troops reached the gate, five snipers were dropped off to take care of some guards long-range. They scurried off the main and into the bushes.

One of the Jaxus shotguns in the larger truck was smoking a cigarette. “Think it’ll work?”

“Think what will work?” the driver responded.

“The plan… It seems a bit too large and complicated.”

“Nah, it’ll work. Jaxek is a genius. His plan won’t fail. But if it does we can all blame Jaxek, cant we?”

“If it fails we won’t be alive to blame Jaxek.” The two had a laugh at that.

They reached the gates and were stopped by guards. A good twenty were at the gate. The smoker put out his cigarette.

“Halt, what’re you doing?” the Hybalt security personnel asked. Dressed in a navy blue uniform, he had a pistol strapped at the waist. The guards began muttering, suspicious of the arriving trucks, which were not on the schedule.

The driver pressed a large blue button on his belt, signaling the snipers to start shooting.

“Well, what we are doing is…” the driver started to respond, and as he did, each truck revealed a mounted gun atop, with a gunner at each. “… none of your business…” The snipers took the first few shots and the gunners started mowing the group down. Twelve killed were in the first volley. Eight troops jumped out of each truck, and started firing their rifles at the guard’s, who were taking cover in their towers. Two of the terrorists were shot down.

Once all security in the area was taken care of, the military envoy proceeded. Everyone went to their respective locations…

((I’m going to skip the ride to the locations. That’d just be boring and waste my time.))

- The Hybalt Industries Complex –

The large truck and its escort had faced some trouble getting into HDI and the center of Granzi City. Four of the sixteen operatives the large truck had as an escort were dispatched, as well as a driver, who was quickly replaced. They had reached their destination.

“JN HQ, we’re at location and ready for take-off.”

- HDI Shipyards: Waterfront –

The two trucks headed to the shipyards had faced more trouble then they would have liked. Four mounted guns they had met had taken out eight of their sixteen-man total escort. Thankfully they had eventually reached the Shipyards, although a tire of one of the trucks was shot out, and there were two wounded terrorists.

- HDI Developmental and Research Department –

These two trucks had faced little trouble. No wounded or killed, but two broken windshields and a blown up mounted gun. The Sokol-31s and the XR-2s had taken care of security here pretty well.

- Manufacturing and Construction –

The long journey to the interior of the complex was tough for these troops. An entire truck was disabled and was temporarily taken over by Hybalt Security before it was retaken by the terrorists. The tire replacements came in handy. They had made it to their destination.

- Office Building 01: HDI Executive HQ –

These troops were decimated. Only two escorts left, forced to replace the mounted gunners. These trucks had barely made it to their marked targets.

JN HQ had gotten all the destinations as “go”. The man at the keyboard of the laptop linked to the explosives typed in a coded command. And another. And a last.

All the trucks blew, totally decimating Hybalt Defense Industries and the surrounding area with a vengeance.

Hacked into Granzi TVs : "Jaxus Nine strikes again. 'Fraid yet, nations of the world?" Jax Jaxus, the leader of the Jaxus Nine terrorist group, wearing the same suit and holding the same XR-2 with the same ski-mask on said for the 6th time. Jaxus Nine strikes again!

Granzi City

The attacks had caught HDI woefully unprepared. With most of the complex a crumbling wreck, survivors were either buried alive or caught in the massive fires that quickly sprang up and spread. The acrid smell of burning flesh mixed with the odor of melted steel, and ash, to form towering columns of smoke drifting across the skyline.

CEO Sanderson and his executive council were in the conference hall discussing future expansion and outlines when the attack took place. It is a sad irony that they will never see that achieved. The building collapsed upon the members seated around the table, remains buried under a mountain of rubble and twisted metal frames.

Elsewhere across the complex, the same scenes repeated themselves over again and again. The waterfront was ruined, drydocks smashed to pieces in the horrific explosion. Several orders currently under construction were damaged as well, many well beyond repair. The hulls of several ships had been flipped over by the sheer force of the blast, smothering hulks now lining the channel.

In Developmental and Research, the laboratory was wiped off the face of the earth. Burning foam, used in prototypes, wafted across the landscape. The chemicals and materials stored within had burst with the attack, instantly vaporizing in the heat. Poisonous fumes blanketed the area, insuring the deaths of all the staff inside the building.

Of the employees and personnel in the facility, almost all were feared dead. Jaxus Nine has struck with a vengeance.

Prime Minister Terri Bolash steps onto the podium, the flag of Granzi visible behind the platform. He looks visibly shaken

"Friends, citizens of Granzi. Today is an evil day in the history of the Commonwealth. Today, for the first time a foreign invader has stepped onto our shores, and attacked us where on our own ground. That invader has not marched armies in Granzi. They have done a cowardly and despicable terrorist act that has left thousands of Granzians dead or wounded."

"Today, on October 13th, members of the terrorist organization Jaxus Nine launched a bombing attack on Hybalt Defense Industries. Murdered their way into the facility, they detonated several large vehicles filled with explosives. The survival rate is feared to be very low."

"I ask for the prayers of my fellow Granzians, to the victims and their families. For when the terrorists of Jaxus Nine attacked HDI, they did not attack a corporation. They did not attack those inside. They attack all of Granzi, and for that we must make them pay. We will never rest until we have brought these terrorists to justice. Thank you, and good night."

Nationwide Alert: Very High

No personnel will be allowed out of or into the country. Granzi City is under complete lockdown, and officers are on the streets enforcing a strict 9:00 curfew. No one is allowed outside after that time. Air traffic has been halted, and custom officials have shut down all ports of entry until further notice.

"This attack on the sovereign Nation of Granzi, coming nearly thirteen years to the day when Schultaria Prime was so savagely attacked for little more than pursuing its dreams, is by far one of the most... intolerable and unjust acts to ever befall a nation. We in Schultaria Prime know well about death and material loss; Granzi's suffering, beyond any reasonable doubt, makes our Contact Day Massacre pale in comparison.

The Nations of Granzi and Schultaria Prime have shared a long standing alliance of well over 60 years. During this time, we have taken steps to insure that neither of our nations would fall into harm; nonetheless, our agreement was not able to aid them in a preemptive manner. Instead of a standard military force, our closest allies were attacked through savagely effective and highly sophisticated methods. Where once the impressive and awe inspiring shipyards of Hybalt stood, ruin and devastation now reign.

These terrorists made no demands, left no warning, posses no regard for the sanctity of human life, nor openly pursue any form of wealth in terms of power or material goods. Their goals appear to be one of random destruction, killing for killing's sake and letting God and the survivors sort out the destruction in the end.

Let it be known in the here and now that Schultaria Prime will not play the role of slumbering giant any longer. I ask all members of TAPRES and NATO to pledge their support to helping repair any damage as soon as possible. As a grateful recipient of support from Granzi in the past, The State Industries of Schultaria Prime: Designwerks will help to rebuild all of Hybalt free of any long term interest or fee. Since Granzi has contributed so much to the rebuilding of our nation and its naval forces, Schultaria Prime feels that this is only fitting that we offer such an agreement to you.

The Dominion condemns these cowardly acts of terrorism against our allies. Our President and people would like to send their condolences to the leadership and people of the Commonwealth for the unfortunate, unjust, and evil act that has been perpetrated by these terrorists.

The Dominion wishes to ask the Commonwealth if they require any aid in countering these terrorists. Greenmanbry would be more than willing to provide any form of medical or military support Granzi requires.

Commodore Barbara Tucker (ISN-Ret.) is the managing director of the Portland Iron Works. She and a couple of her deputies were in Granzi City for a conference with Deloras Swift of Hybalt Defense Industries when the terrorist attacks happened. The conference was to take place at the airport so they weren't in the line of fire.]

Tucker picked up her phone and called Deputy Managing Director Commodore Jamie Wilson (ISN-Ret.) from her cell phone.

"Barbie, thank God you're all right," Wilson said as soon as he flipped open his cel phone.

"Yeah, but barely. Unfortunately, looks like we'll be here for a while," she sighed. "They've just instituted a lockdown and they're not allowing any flights to leave Granzi. It's been a while since I've gotten a good night's sleep."

"We'll hold the fort down here," Wilson said. "We've just commissioned a couple of new ship classes while you were away."

The work never ceases, Tucker thought. But it would take a while for Hybalt Defense Industries to be back up to full operation so the work was just beginning.

"Thank you, though that's cold comfort at a time like this," Tucker said.

"I know, Barbie. Just hold out and you'll be back here before you know it."

I hope, they both thought as Tucker hung up. Just then, the phone rang again. She looked at the call ID and saw a number she barely recognized.

"Commodore Tucker."

"Commodore, this is Intelligence Chief Jamie Stone."

"Jamie! Good to hear from you," Tucker said. She knew Stone from when she was a little girl and was proud of her for being the longest-serving intelligence chief in Sarzonian history. Then again, intelligence chiefs in Sarzonia had the longevity record of drummers in Spinal Tap, so that wasn't saying much. But Stone was doing much to change that negative reputation.

"Likewise, though I wish the circumstances were better. Listen, did the leader of a Jaxus Nine terrorist organization hack into Granzian televisions to deliver a threat?"

"As a matter of fact, yes."

"See if you can get a contact within the Granzian government to provide us with a direct link to the threat so we can use it to investigate it. I want to see if we can trace the origin of the message. If we can pinpoint the location, we may be on the way to something."

"Such as?"

"I can't divuldge anything, you know that. But trust me, it will be worth the effort."

"Thanks Jamie. I'll see what I can do for you."

"Thank you Commodore."

The two women hung up. In another time, Tucker would have insisted that Stone call her Barbie, since she practically grew up around the Commodore. But these weren't times for pleasantries.

"Deloras, I'm going to need you to put me in touch with the intelligence personnel in your government. Our government wants to investigate the televised threats from Jaxus Nine."

She waited expectantly for Swift's answer.

Department of War, Invincible Empire of Roach-Busters

Secretary of War Lester Lindsey yawned. Damn, this is boring, he thought, as his mind became hazy and he began to zone out. His eyelids felt like they weighed a thousand pounds. He had to struggle with every fiber of his being to keep them open. A man of little patience, his attention span and fuse were both famous around the region for how short they were. He yawned again, as the analyist, a tall, gawky, pencil-thin dweeb wearing horn-rimmed glasses and a white labcoat, yammered on and on and on in a high-pitched, nasal voice about the department's budget details, figures, blah blah blah.
Lindsey felt the veins in his forehead bulge profusely as the blood rushed from his face. He felt a deep anger welling within him, threatening to burst like a long-dormant volcano at the slightest provocation. He was about to stand up and begin barking at the analyst the way he once snapped at his troops when he was a five-star general, when all of a sudden one of his assistants came in.
"Sir!" he said, rendering Lindsey a smart salute.
Lindsey nodded. "At ease, Private. What's up?"
"There has been a terrorist attack on Granzi Hybalt Defense Industries, and..."
The assistant- who was painfully aware of Lindsey's short attention span- gave him the story in a nutshell, as quickly as he could.
"S***," Lindsey muttered, slamming his fist into his desk. "Granzi's an ally of Sarzonia, ain't it? And Sarzonia's been RB's ally since the very beginnin'...the President's gonna be interested in this for sure. Call 'im up."
"Uh, I can't sir. He's in Sanctaphrax, attending some racial tolerance conference."
Lindsey swore again. Great, he thought. It had to happen when J.L. was away, didn't it? Damn it all...
Lindsey dismissed his assistant and the bespectacled dweeb, picked up his phone, and dialed the number of President J.L.'s satellite phone. He waited patiently for J.L. to pick up.

The satellite surveilance images flashed up one by one on the large screen on the wall. Hi-resolution picture after high-resolution picture of smoking buildings and death.

"And who did this?" The Lord-Protector didn't move his eyes from the images before him.

"One... Jaxus Nine, a Terror Group of some form or another, my Lord."

Tiberius Starblayde, the Lord-Protector of the Protectorate of Starblaydia, a loyal ally of Granzi, sat back in his chair and frowned with the annoyed look of a near-powerless man.

"The usual tough bunch of hombres who hide behind masks, isn't it?" he said with a sigh, rubbing knuckles against his eyelids to stave off the tiredness approaching him in the dead of night. "Who's our ambassador in Granzi?"

"I, uhh, don't quite have that information to..."

"You're an idiot," the Lord-Protector interrupted him, "get the name and make sure he expresses our sorrow and anything we can do, you know the rest."

"Yes, My Lord."


The Lord-Protector and people of Starblaydia are united in their concern for their good ally of Granzi, who we have been close to for many years since the explusion of Jingzhou. We send our deepest condolences to the nation and relatives of the men and women who died in this atrocity. "And to break relations with Jaxus Nine..." Second Director of Foreign Affairs Jaxe Jaxus, a woman, said.

"No... If we do that then they'll bomb us next. That is the last thing we need now." Head Director of Foreign Affairs, Jaxek Jaxusism responded.

"It was a mistake to sign on with them in the first place." Jaxe demanded.

"Did you see how they've hit Lethislavania? Phalanix? Praetonia? Exetonia? And now Granzi? Think of an attack ten-fold if they ever decide to attack us..." Jaxek had to keep his cool as he said this.

"So, what do we do?" Jaxe asked.

"We wait..." Sherveen answered. "We wait..."

In responce to the recent attacks on our colleagues in Granzi, the Imperial Praetonian Shipyards is announcing the creation of a standing defence force, consisting of the latest Imperial Guard issue tanks, IFVs and infantry weaponary. While this force is being trained, one division of the Imperial Guard has been assigned to guard IPS facilities in Praetonia and the colonies.

His Isselmerian and Nielander Majesty's Government is appalled by the brutal attack on the respected nation of Granzi, and particularly upon the Hybalt Defense Industries. The people of Isselmere-Nieland will do their very best to assist the people of Granzi in this time of trouble and will send whatever aid might be required.

Thankfully, the redirection hub sat outside of the primary facility, so the data stream is still undamaged. I've got you on live video-audio conference with the Foreign Minister in a few moments. Just let me finish with the set-up." Swift retrieved a small webcam from her bag and plugged it into the module.

Within moments, the screen flickered to life. A small 'loading' bar appeared at the center of the window. It slowly filled up, and was replaced by a headshot of FM Nathanial Sun. "So... what did you need from us?"

As for HDI, this attack will deal a severe blow to its production. AFter Demcor Corp folded four years ago, it left many of its facilities intact. It is my sad duty to convey this message to you, Mr. Prime Minister, as I am the last surviving member of the former HDI executive council. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Grand Republic of Demidia for their assistance in this matter. Fortunately, we have several construction and manufacturing complexes across Granzi and the Commonwealth.

The DC-9 shipyards and facility will be of great use to Hybalt Defense Industries to temporarily replace the capacity lost with the construction of HDI HQ. However, we will have to hire more skilled employees until this can happen, and replace the equipment lost in the attack. For the time being, the DC-9 shipyards will remain empty.

We are currently able to send roughly 100 or so medical personel, and another 100 relief workers who can assist in clearing out rubble, and looking for those that survived the attacks. The personel should arrive in Granzi in three days time. We wish the best for you in the future."

His Majesty's Government will immediately send four army surgical hospitals and two large disaster relief teams in five Marsden-class transports along with two Pasteur-class hospital transports to assist in the recovery and care of any personnel at the HDI facilities. We would willing to send military police to assist in securing those facilities from further action should you require them and have placed our intelligence services on high alert to collect any and all information on the Jaxus Nine terrorist cells.

"Mr. Foreign Minister, good to see you, though not under ideal circumstances," Tucker said. "The Sarzonian intelligence chief has asked for a direct link to the threat played on your television networks from the leader of Jaxus Nine. We want to be able to give them the chance to trace the trnasmission to its source. Hopefully, we can then use that as a basis for a counter-strike."

"Do you have the logs from the broadcast that we can use to begin to trace it from its original source? If so, please contact Intelligence Chief Jamie Stone with that information. The Sarzonian Senior Vice President for External Affairs, Mark Lorber would like to talk to Prime Minister Bolash or you about coordinating relief efforts." And, just as a desperate aside, "And find a way to get us back to Portland."

She knew that was unlikely, especially for the immediate future. But she figured she had to try. She longed for the comfort of her own bed and the familiar surroundings of her office. They called out to her like prodigal child crying for their mother. And this mom couldn't reach her children.

"Ah yes... the logs. The intelligence division of Central Command is currently analyzing the media transcripts for any clues into the location of these broadcasts. However, we would welcome another pair, or pairs, of eyes and minds working on it, maybe to catch something we might have missed." He winked. "Your intel chief will be soon receiving a secure transmission, containing the logs, and any additional information we can spare."

The Foreign Minister paused. "I can tell you one thing though. The hacking and subsequent broadcasts came from somewhere in the nation of Jaxusism. We haven't been able to pinpoint the location yet, as the signal has been scrambled pretty well. On the issue of state-sponsored terrorism, whether the government there actually aided the Jaxus Nine organization is anyone's guess. A promising lead though."

"As for getting back to Portland..." Nathanial looked slightly flushed. "There is nothing here to hold you, Commodore, as a diplomat from returning to Sarzonia. We have no intention of keeping you captive in Granzi. You are free to leave and go as you please."

"I look forward to having a conversation with VP Mark Lorber, or if he wishes, may talk directly with the Prime Minister."

"Ah, that might be useful," Tucker said. "Jaxusism." She started playing the name in her head.

She noticed that their government had been active purchasing military equipment lately, and from some suppliers that were in good standing with Sarzonia. She figured something had to be up.

I'm no intel person, but that lead's going to be important, Tucker thought.

"I'm going to call Commodore Wilson and direct him to send an announcement barring Jaxusism from purchasing at the Portland Iron Works and encouraging other vendors to stop selling to them or prevent delivery of items to them. Hopefully, that will send a message that they're going to have to step up to the plate if they're not sponsoring those criminals. If they are, we need to keep them from getting stronger and more dangerous.

"As far as leaving for Portland goes, I've seen the announcement from your government barring flights from leaving Granzi. That may be what prevents me from leaving here. I can try though. I believe Mr. Lorber would be glad to talk to you. He should be in touch with you shortly."

Tucker smiled slightly, trying her hardest to put on a brave front while her insides began turning. She wanted to get out of the danger zone, but she figured Sarzonia would be a prime target before long. Still, she felt really unsafe outside of her comfort zone in Portland.

We accept all the aid being offered by his Majesty's Government. They are in dire need, and we thank you for this offering. The relief and medical teams will be allowed unlimited access to all affected areas, with an open channel to the Granzian government for any needs and requests. To safeguard operations, we will allow several squads of military police in the Commonwealth, the total not surpassing 500 personnel. This particular mission was of particular importance to these submariners, and perhaps to the sub itself. Not that old the NHS Devil’s Advocate was a Spirit class submarine that the Noviet had taken possession of near these very dry docks. Now it was coming home, though under very melancholy circumstances, the Devil’s Advocate was taking every precaution to avoid detection. Taking advantage of the Noviet knowledge of the area, having literally maneuvered hundred of separate ships in the area, the sub moved slow and silent. Once near shore it began an operation parallel to that in Praetonia. The NNAO agents quietly and stealthily disembarked from the submerged vehicle via the torpedo tubes. Coming ashore amidst the wreckage the teams silently made their way to the hypo centres of the explosions to begin their search for clues.
“All right teams stay low and stay quiet. No casualties and no sightings.” Sneaking around like this was liable to get you caught, but with the satellite in orbit providing the Birdseye view the teams had a distinct advantage over any of the teams that might be there.

The fleet of Cargo Planes streamed off from various Starblaydi airports, filled with trucks, filled in turn with medical supplies and emergency medical personnel. There was also a fair contingent of Starblaydi troops as extra protection for the vital people and equipment who were travelling to the now-scarred Commonwealth.

The Financial aid was already swinging into action, millions upon millions of 'spare' Starblaydi Credits winging their way electronically into Granzi Government accounts, to help with the clean-up and subsquent rebuilding programmes.

The teams had made quick work of the waterfront. The main Granzian teams were that of survey as the fires burned in a controlled manner now and there was no hope of survivors at this point. With instructions from the CnC on the sub, who availed themselves of real time orbital imagery, they’d managed to evade the surveyors who were unaware of their presence.

“This is CnC to team lead confirm.” The communication had startled Agent Smithson. The work was carried out in almost utter silence as they made their way through the carnage recorded by their on board systems. Eric Smithson was appalled at the devastation but these were thoughts he kept well in the recesses of his mind. The only thing that mattered was the mission, not the fact that they were probing human remains, civilian and terrorist alike.
“Team lead, go ahead CnC.” It was the voice of the operation’s Imperator that came on the encrypted band next.
“Team lead the line is secure so I’ll speak candidly.” While the line was encrypted there was no guarantee that it was secure, but today it was an acceptable risk. With background emanations from the destroyed labs at extreme levels such a small band would be considered more unaccounted for background noise, not that anyone was listening. “We’ve been looking over the evidence you’ve gathered so far and we believe it was an interdiction against Granzi itself and not the HDI on its own. The motive is still a mystery but we’ve gotten a better idea on the MO. By the looks of the scene the combatants forced themselves onto the compound via military grade vehicles and detonated an incendiary device that was onboard. As you know they took eight casualties here. We won’t know more until the labs get back to us.”
“Sir not to be obtuse but what do we hope to learn here?”
“*chuckles* Well Team Lead, we have a three D model of the explosive trigger and casing as well as viable genetic samples from their casualties. Not to mention the work your engineer did on the vehicle and samples of chemical traces left from the blast.”

“Well the lab might give us some idea what kind of explosive it was, who made the truck, its make and model as well as a genetic profile on the combatant casualties. Because even if they aren’t on a criminal database it will give us a race of where to start looking.”
