Heart of Karos Graveyard (restricted zone), Edge of Newlon System
Beta Galaxy, Feazanthian space

Joe nodded his head idly to the acoustic guitar country music blaring in the small cabin of his scavenger craft.
“This piece of shit aint never gonna work.”
“Well try fixin it, dumbass,” came the disembodied voice of his partner. He pressed several buttons on a monitor and, seeing no change in the grey snow falling on it, smacked the unit with his palm. The long face of his partner, Billy Ray, appeared.
“Damn yer ugly,” commented Billy Ray.
“Eh shuttup. You boys a tucked in nice ‘n tight?”
“Yeh, we’re good.”
“Si senor,” came the voice of Mendoza, the mercenary they had hired for this job.
“Well, don’t care if ya are or not, outer doors opening.”
The outer doors of the frigate-sized scavenger opened, releasing the pair of collector pods. The pods accelerated out of the craft and went towards the spinning hulks of wreckage.
“We got some ex-intelligent life out here fer sure.”
“Not anymore though.”
“Shattup. This shit’s big. Bigger than one of those imperial cruisers, fer sure.”
“Send me the specs, let’s see if we can take it.”
An image appeared on the screen, but its scale to the scavenger was too large to be of sufficient use. Joe pulled up a scale holofile of the Feazanthian flagship, the FSS Neodammerung and placed it onto the schematics. Joe let out a low whistle.

“E’splain to me...how we gonna get all this home?” inquired Mendoza.
Suddenly, Joe’s screen went fuzzy and snowy again.
“Gawd damnit, Billy Ray, screen went dead agin.”
“Well quit pickin at it!”
“I aint pickin at it!”
“‘ey, you hombres listenin to me? We got *fssss* some big ol’ *fssss*”
“SHIT!”
Three corvette-sized craft had ejected from the massive hulk, and began flying towards the pods. Small blue bursts shot out and engulfed the pods in fire. The three turned on the scavenger, opening fire. Joe screamed as his skull was turned to a bloody pulp, and the scavenger was destroyed.

Did the Purple BC in the picture (right hand side) give it away, or was it that you memorized a transmission from single player?

More corvette-sized craft began following the black fighter, letting loose with their blue pulse cannons in an attempt to destroy the intruder into their territory.

The fighter swerved back and forth trying to shake the corvette craft behind him. It glowed blue as it prepared to shift (when space and time are bent to allow a ship to get away. It's only put on a few ships.) back to the mother craft.

A gravity well was projected from the massive craft, blocking any faster-than-light travel in a three light minute radius. The corvettes surrounded the fighter and opened up.

Deep in the Imperial War Room on Feazanthia Prime, all was not well. The Feazanthian government had detected the blast, and a scouting probe had determined that it was a civilian craft that had been destroyed.
"The area's a class three forbidden zone! AND NOW WE KNOW WHY!" cried the Emperor's war advisor.
"Silence, Anderton," warned the Emperor. "That zone was put in place by my grandfather five centuries ago. Whatever this thing was could have entered the zone since then."
The intelligence advisor spoke up. "The fact that it didn't fire on the craft itself but deployed several smaller ships shows intelligence. I believe we should try to communicate with it."
"Do we have technical data yet?" asked his highness.
"Only this, recovered by the probe from the scavenger's database."
The image recorded by Joe appeared on Feazanth's wrist monitor.
"Dear gods...is that accurate?"
"According to what we know, the scavenger had fairly accurate readings on the Flagship's size."
"So...what you're saying is...we have a ship that's easily ten times larger than the Neodammerung, the mightiest ship we own?"
"Correct, your highness."
The Emperor rubbed his temple in agitation. "And it's in the Karos graveyard. Dispatch a diplomatic drone immediately. If it is sentient, I want it on our side."

Lights along the side of massive vessel began winking on, forming a sort of line towards a large hole in the center of the prow. A large energy surge was detected by the drone, and it began backing off. However, this maneuver came too late. As the drone's controllers watched in horror, a beam with incalculatable intensity roared out into the cosmos and struck the cruiser. There was no time for secondary explosions. The vessel simply wavered and disintegrated under the beam's fire.

18-10-2004, 01:09
A pair of massive, fifteen kilometer long craft emerged from the engineering section of the giant derelict vessel. One took up a seemingly defensive position around the "mothership". The second emitted a bright beam, which turned into a rectangular "doorway". The doorway engulfed the vessel, which vanished.

Strangely enough, the graveyard centered around a gravity well.

A huge black vessel floated in space. Long and serpetine its surface crackled with electricity as towers that covered the entire thing projected energy in every direction to protect the great Hashik from harm. It sped through space scanning intermittently for other sigs of life.

It detected a smaller mercant craft up ahead the cannons primed as the captain gave the order. A bolt of destructive energy sped towards the vessel which was frantically sending friendly messages while trying to swerve out of the way.

It was no good the merchant ship exploded in a cloud of dust as the good ship Hashik rolled onwards.

The Imperium had sent the Inquisition forth, to purge heresy and chaos from the void. To cleanse the foul creatures of the wearp; and now, headed into deep space, was a detachment of Grey Knights; The Ordo Malleus. Armed with faith, will, Aegis Armor and blessed Power Weapons; they plunged out of the warp, a safe distance from the ship.

Dozens of the corvette-sized craft poured from the hulks around the two vessels entering the Karos Graveyard.
http://chikens.net/forum/hw2/hw2_progenitor_mover.jpg
They swarmed the two craft, firing their powerful plasma burst weapons. Three destroyer-sized craft detatched from the debris and opened up with their ruby red beams.

The Chronosian vessel raised its shields; retreating as fast as it could, weapons blazing as the ships attacked. The hull hissed and sizzled as energy scored it; retreating at maximum speed.
"Fall back, Fall back!"
Camel Eaters
18-10-2004, 23:29
The Hashik turned as the people they were conversing with were being destroyed hundreds of small fighter craft churned out of the Hashik as they raced to save their new friends.

The Hashik glowed blue as it accelerated to break neck speeds. It disinegrated several of the smaller craft that got to close thankfully only one or two were destroyed.
Feazanthia
18-10-2004, 23:36
A pair of the corvettes spun out of control and detonated, but the rest seemed unusually resilient to the attacks by the Hashik and Chronosian vessels. Several fighters impacted on the odd shields of the destroyer crafts, but that was all.
Camel Eaters
18-10-2004, 23:41
The rotating cannons began firing pulse shots that were designed to destroy shields and operating systems.
Feazanthia
19-10-2004, 22:02
Six more corvettes detonated from the pulse fire, but the destroyers seemed oddly unharmed. Whenever its shields started dropping, it simply vanished and reappeared several minutes earlier, slightly stronger than before.

A distortion began several hundred kilometers away from the battle, and debris seemed to "leap" out of the way. A wormhole began opening, but slowly. The gravity well obviously was interfering with the FTL drive.
Camel Eaters
19-10-2004, 22:09
The Hashik concentrated on the wormhole. It sent a probe to see where the event horizon of the thing was. Once they had learned the exact measurements they moved in closer so the destroyer would have to gamble in order to kill the Hashik.
Feazanthia
19-10-2004, 23:27
The Hashik obviously expected for more of the derelicts to appear, but instead a different ship appeared. It looked somewhat like an ancient battleship from the days of high seas Terra, save for a turret on its underside. On its dorsal plate sat three dual turrets, which swiveled to the derelict destroyers. As four more of the same craft exited the wormhole, the first ship's turrets opened up with a volley of heavy railgun slugs. As the slugs impacted on the nearest derelict destroyer, the alien vessels disappeared along with their corvettes. The turrets of the newly arrived ships then turned on the Hashik and the Chronosian vessel.

"This is the FSS Archangel of Feazanthian Destroyer Group 26. You are in a restricted zone, class three. Lower your shields and prepare to face inquiry."
Camel Eaters
19-10-2004, 23:42
A Diplomatic Signal:

"We were simply assisting the Chronosian vessel and had no intention of trespassing. We will not power down our shields but we will aggree to discussions. We have no need to destroy you or any other's. Just as we are sure you've no need to kill us."
Feazanthia
20-10-2004, 00:44
"Chronosian and CE vessels, you will vacate the Karos graveyard immediately. It is not safe and has been upgraded to class four restricted zone."

Just then, the three destroyers returned, opening up with their laser beams on the Archangel. The mighty warship was too slow to react, and secondary explosions ripped through the hull as the core went critical.
Camel Eaters
20-10-2004, 12:05
The Hashik turned and opened full concentrated fire on one destroyer.

OOC: That's thousands of bombs, missiles, and pulse/methane balls being shot.

IC: On the lowest deck a very long and yellow craft was fitted with a bomb the work had to be done in zero g because the Stoneburner (bomb's name) was almost two times as large as the craft. It was held aloft by eight iron cords as the Stoneburner was attached to its underhull. The wires released and it floated out of the dock by way of a trashport. The craft swerved and targeted one destroyer it fired...

OOC: Just to be clear stoneburner=very very big boom lots of carnage.
Feazanthia
20-10-2004, 15:02
OOC-and keep in mind these derelict craft are extremely advanced.

The three destroyers vanished before the Hashik's weapons could reach them. The Feazanthian weapons turned on the Hashik.
"You have fired in Feazanthian territory. You will power down your weapon systems and leave immediately or face destruction."
Chronosia
20-10-2004, 16:55
"We are agents of the Chronosian Inquisition! Do not open fire! We have been sent by Imperial and Inquisitorial Edict to investigate this derelict ship....We will comply, but only once my have the chance to examine it; peacefully..."
Feazanthia
20-10-2004, 19:39
"The derelicts in question are property of the Feazanthian empire. You shall get your chance to examine them only after we are finished. Scarab, out."

Several new wormholes began opening and Feazanthian destroyers, cruisers and survey ships began filing out.

OOC-Notice he said derelicts.

"We will stand down."
The comm-link shut and the Inquisitor turned.
"Something isn't right here. Reverse course; take us out, but keep a sensor lock on the derelict....Though he mentioned others. Keep watching; waiting. I sense there is some great heresy here"
Camel Eaters
20-10-2004, 22:07
The Hashik replies:

"We were trying to help you with the derelicts. We shall stand down."
Feazanthia
21-10-2004, 13:23
"Foreign vessels retreating, captain."
"Good. Have Father Magot report to the bridge, begin full burn towards the Karos Heart."

The Feazanthian vessels began moving at maximum safe speed through the debris field, with the three Valor cruisers leading around twenty Endeavor destroyers and nearly four dozen assorted survey ships and corvettes. They slid through the golden-hued dust clouds until they were within two hundred kilometers of the massive derelict and its guards.
"Father, what do you make of this?"
Father Magot was an older man with the ceremonial headdress of one of the Ancianati Order. He readjusted his holospecs and gazed at the derelict.
"There is no mistaking it. That is a Gatekeeper of Khar vessel. One of the Ancients built it."
"Can we defend against its weaponry, Father?"
"Doubtful. The Gatekeepers defended the Ancients against many attacks. If I may, captain." The Father pointed towards the communications device.
"Of course, Father. Comm, set for wide broadcast. All freqs, all known languages including Binary and Trinary."

The red broadcast light flicked on, and the Father began speaking in a weird tongue.
"Alak krat'nor eagh Sajuuk."

The derelict turned, now looking at the Feazanthian fleet.
"Captain, I believe we have achieved contact."
Camel Eaters
21-10-2004, 22:09
Aboard the Hashik:

"Captain we're getting a signal on every channel in the old tongue." The captain raced over and had the man repeat the messaage.

"Alak krat'nor eagh Sajuuk? I don't know the dialect that far back. Get the language expert to broadcast a reply." The captain said gesturing the men in different directions.

OOC: What does it mean. I think it would be interesting if the Camel Eaters might have been the ancients or a slave race to them and their modern language is descended from those Ancients tongue.
Chronosia
21-10-2004, 22:12
The Inquisitors also heard the signal; and began to transmit it also on all frequencies; pausing just as they were leaving the zone.
"Keep sending the signal; let us see what the effect is"
Feazanthia
22-10-2004, 13:39
OOC - Alak krat'nor means "greetings" or "peace be with you". Eagh is an honorific, like "sir" or "great one". Sajuuk means "The Makers Who's Hands Shape What Is", aka the Ancients. And it's highly unlikely that you would be the Ancients, as they died out several dozen

The derelict then looked at the inquisitorial vessel, confused. Motes of light began gathering near its prow.

"All craft, prepare to withdraw!"
Camel Eaters
22-10-2004, 22:24
The tranlator stood there in awe. "It means greetings from the gods." He said while preparing to respond.

OOC: Slave race then?
Feazanthia
25-10-2004, 12:54
OOC-makes sense

A massive beam lanced out from the derelict vessel, spearing one of the Feazanthian destroyers. The ship wavered and disintegrated under the blast as its compatriots continued to withdraw, their noses still facing the Ancient vessel.
Camel Eaters
25-10-2004, 21:39
He prepared the message. Translated it said "Greeting ancient ones we mean you no harm."

OOC: I haven't played Homeworld in a while and I don't know what would have been used in this situation.
Feazanthia
29-10-2004, 14:47
OOC: This stopped being Homeworld-esque a while ago.

The following came from the derelict.
"Explain your desecration."
Camel Eaters
29-10-2004, 22:34
"The lawgivers told us to come here." The translator said while signaling for the captain to get ready to leave.
