The shrilling music of the Bagpipes echoed throughout the countryside, while the lines of red coats marched ever onwards. General Upsworth and Wellington were as usual at the centre of the column. These damn rebellions had to be crushed no matter what, and there was always the damn Fruity Loopians who were constantly expanding into “British” territory. Well the last straw had finally been reached the Empire would strike back against these ruffians who would dare to deny the will of his majesty. The orders were simple. Remove the Loopians from all of Africa and destroy any resistance encountered, even if it was a civilian resistance. The Empire will not and will never tolerate any forms of rebellion as seen in India recently with the execution of over twenty thousand rebels.
The lines stretching off into the horizon were easily visible from far afield. There would not be much in the chance of surprise against the enemy however it would take them a long time to muster up a sufficient force to remove thirty thousand red coats from their territory.
The army was divided in to two halves, each general controlling fifteen thousand men. And then there was sub generals who were seeing to the long supply chains stretching towards the coast. Where in port the Royal Navy kept an eye out for any enemy ships moving in towards the region.
“Well I do think its time to give the men a rest, don’t you Upsworth?” said Lord Wellington.
“For the last time old chap, stop calling me that, my first name is Reginald, use it man.” Wellington giving a sly smile smirked and ordered the army to rest and refresh themselves. The cooking tents were already being unpacked while the senior staffs mobile cabin was set up. Rising into the raised room the two Generals sat down to an already stocked table. Crumpets were being served as well as tea as an appetizer while the main meal was being prepared. Roast Beef with steamed vegetables and gravy, an excellent choice by the chief, an officers choice.
“Well Reginald.” Wellington said with great emphasis and a smile “it seems we have moved into the disputed territories. Fort Himanda only lies a days march away.”
“Yes yes I know. I suppose we should get the army into battle formation in case of early hostilities.” Upsworth suggested while tucking a napkin into his generals uniform.
“Yes I will issue the order after lunch, well shall we get over this nasty business of war for now, tell me has your daughter found a suitor yet, as well.” Wellington now coughing a little bit in a small sign of embarrassment.
“Well?” Upsworth asked.
“Well as my son is now of age to be considered a gentleman.”
“Entered the service has he?”
“But of course, I would never allow him to do anything else. He has a tradition to keep up with.”
“Well send the lad round when we get home, perhaps Marry will like him, perhaps not. If he’s anything like his father, I’m sure there will be no problem.”
The two generals discussed tactics and plans while the army made ready for battle formations.
