To: The Avalon Aerospace Corporation, Sales Division
From: Gen. Utu Harimbe, Ami-Gan Ministry of Defense
Subject: Purchase Inquiry

The Emir of our fledgling nation has directed me to acquire the foundations of our nation's new air force. We at the ministry were impressed by the quality and relatively low cost of your products, and so would like to place the following order:

(in millions)
330 Six SZ-8 ("Leapfrog") Close Support Aircraft
660 Twelve SZ-9 ("Condor") Fighters
750 Ten SZ-14 ("Scorpion") Attack Helicopters
100 Two SZ-5 ("Snarl") ECM Craft
1,840 Total

We would propose paying this amount in gold and in four installments of six hundred ten million dollars, paid annually, at the conclusion of which delivery would be made. Moreover, we would be most interested in discussing the possibility of contracting Avalon Aerospace personnel to train our first set of pilots, operators and maitenance crews - as noted, the Ami-gan air force is still in its infancy. Thank you for your time.

Work will begin immediately on the aircraft you have ordered and we expect to deliver it to you within four NS years (4 RL days), following the conclusion of aerial trials. We hope the aircraft you have ordered exceed your country's expectations and we hope to hear from you again in the future.

As to the training on the aircraft, we would be more than willing to train your pilots on the aircraft and all attendant equipment. Our air force would also be willing to partner with your own if you choose to conduct aerial training manouevers or combat exercises. Subject: Confirmation of order

The Avalon Aerospace Corporation is delighted to confirm this order from our friends in Lesser Ribena. Our discount figure has actually changed to five percent, in keeping with the standard practice of the Portland Iron Works; however, since we have not published the figures as we should have, we intend to honour the price discount of ten percent until such time as we publish the new rates.

Thus, we are happy to confirm your order for the amount of $6.44 billion, including a slight additional discount to allow for greater ease in accounting. Work will begin immediately and we anticipate delivery within four NS years [4 RL days], following the completion of aerial trials. We hope the aircraft you have ordered from us meet and even exceed your expectations for their capabilities and use.

I have contacted my former superior officers in the ISAF and they have expressed a willingness to help train your pilots and we would be willing to provide whatever training is necessary on the operation of the aircraft they will be using. We thank you for contacting the Avalon Aerospace Corporation for aviation needs and we hope to hear from you again in the future!

As the final stage of phase one of our defense expansion I am pleased to enclose an order for carrier aircraft to kit out our new Titan class carrier (purchased from Imperial Praetonian Shipyards):

60 Vulture fighter-bombers
68 Albatross fighters
32 Scorpion Multi-role Helicopters

I believe the total comes to: $7.48 billion
less our 5% discount which leaves a balance of: $7.106 billion

I would be grateful if the total could be paid over the following 2 years.

OOC: terribly sorry for not ordering the ships from you, I initially placed an order with IPS about 9 days ago and it has only just gone through. Since then I had chosen you as my storefront of choice but I feel obliged to follow up on my promise to Praetonia. Sorry about that.

For Immediate Release

Avalon develops three new aircraft

The Avalon Aerospace Corporation today released to the general public two new helicopter classes and one large jet to enhance its offerings of support aircraft. Despite the later number, the SZ-16 'Catamount' special operations helicopter was released to the general public before the SZ-15 'Dragon,' a move Major General Stephen C. Wilcox (ISAF-Ret), the managing director of the company, said was due to major revisions in the Dragon design.

"We essentially created a wholly different helicopter," Wilcox said of the Dragon. "The original specs we had were designed for a purely ASW craft whereas we received requests from our export customers for a modular craft that could be used for transport or ASW." Wilcox said the Dragon was based on the successful, but aging Merlins that were used by the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy for years.

"That was an excellent design as that class goes," Wilcox said. "But it came time for us to implement something new," and, he added, "something Sarzonian."

The Catamount was the result of research into a special operations helicopter at the request of one of the company's regular customers. Wilcox said attention was devoted to making the aircraft stealthy due to its use for special operations work. However, the weapons layout was increased from previous similar designs to allow for increased protection of special forces units and for ground attack operations.

"We think the Catamount is one of our most versatile offerings," Wilcox said. "It should also bridge the gap until we come out with a dedicated gunship."

Finally, the SZ-17 'Galaxy' rolled off the assembly line after the Incorporated Sarzonian Army came to Avalon with a request for an updated transport similar to the old Boeing C-17A Globemaster. The carrying capacity is increased and avionics are slightly improved, but Wilcox said the key to the design is its increased protection component using Spectra fibre, which is stronger than kevlar previously used to enhance survivability.

"Survivability is arguably the top priority for the Sarzonian military," Wilcox said. "Especially if you've got a company's worth of paratroops you're carrying, you don't want a total operational loss because they're being shot down." Wilcox said the aircraft is the latest in the round of designs called the 'Lessons of Inkana' series.

"The Inkanan Civil War taught us a lot about how we needed to improve ourselves in all facets of combat," Wilcox said. "This is one more chapter in that long litany of changes we needed to make."

We are currently updating our inventory of vehicles and equipment and, considering our military's reliance on your excellent products, we would like to know if you can recommend or even design a suitable helicopter for use by our Aerial Support unit. Their main role would be that of surveillence and would need both infra red and ultra violet capabilities, high speed and a decent range for pursuit, and high powered lighting for night time activities. We look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Upgrading/Modernizing existing aircraft

Nation: Commonwealth of Saint Fedski

Type of Aircraft: Fighter (Interceptor)

Price Range: no more than 5 million per aircraft (perferably) but can be increased if it's absolutely necessary to meet our requirements.

Special Characteristic Emphasis: Speed, Manuverability, Firepower

Other Comments: I have 635 F-5 Tiger II's that I wish to have upgraded to more modern standards. It should be quite capable of flying long ranges at high speed, and even quicker when in a combat situation, but also at dangerously low speeds when needed. It's primary role will be as a fighter intercepter, but it must be capable of bombing at high speed, and attacking ground targets (low speed). Two 30mm in the nose and another with another 2 elsewhere are required. Accomodations for three guided bombs (small to medium in size), four Air to Air missiles and two air to surface missiles is needed. All of this on our existing 635 aircraft. This is a high priority objective for us, and is therefore needed as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Subject: Re: Upgrading/Modernizing existing aircraft

The Avalon Aerospace Corporation thanks you for contacting us regarding the request for upgrades of your present F-5 Tiger II interceptors to more modern standards. We wish to note, however, that a full modernisation programme to update the suggested aircraft to modern standards of speed, manuverability, and firepower would cost significantly more than the $5 million US per aircraft proscribed.

The aircraft in question entered service with the former United States in 1971, and as a result, the technology base of those original aircraft is decades behind that of aircraft currently in Incorporated Sarzonian Air Force service. We estimate that it would take a combination of major electronics replacement, installation of new engines, sturdier air frames built with stronger composite armours, and the addition of the updated ordnance. Our estimate of the cost of updating one aircraft to minimum standards for emergency operation would be $40 million USD, which would be very close to the cost for the construction of a fairly stripped down interceptor in Sarzonian service.

We are still open to the prospect of negotiating an agreement for the refurbishment of these aircraft to your specifications; however, if we were to undertake the upgrade at the price suggested, we would be operating at a significant loss.

Re: Upgrading/Modernizing existing aircraft

Thank you for your prompt response. The electronics have been upgraded regularly by InfoTech Technical Information Technolgies of North Saint Clair. All that is required are the new mounts and brand new powerplant. We have already recieved replies from DMI ($6 million per unit) and Tylon Aerospace Industries ($5 million per unit). We are close to a deal with DMI but we are waiting for the specs and the specs from other parties. These aircraft are too important to us to just trust one source. We must shop around to increase competition and hopefully get a better product as a result. Once the specs are in, we will make our choice. Whichever company can provide the best upgrades for the most reasonable price will gain the large majority of our business when our other aircraft become obsolete. Once again, thank you for your prompt response, we look forward to you reply.

Re: Upgrading/Modernizing existing aircraft

$5.5 million is acceptable. However, we need the possible specs before we can make a commitment. The only reason we are shopping around and making sure it is known is to force the industries to compete and therefore a better product. If company A offers a slight upgrade for X amount of dollars, and company B offers a considerable upgrade for slightly more, chances are company B will get the contract. The amount is quite negotiable when comparing it to the other companies. Like has been said, the company that can pull this off, will get the most business from us. Thank you once again for your prompt reply. It truly is a pleasure dealing with Avalon.
