By counter-orbital defenses and shields, do you mean systems to protect your planets, or systems to attack enemy planets? We are thrown off by the 'counter' portion of your statement. For orbital defenses, we can construct an orbital satellite system of Whooper heavy antiship cannon and parasite-missile stations. Shielding will be prone to internal sabotage, and may not stop parasite (fighter) craft, but will prove effective against large-scane invasions. We can also implement nanite immune systems for urban areas and military installations in order to counter nanite and micrite assaults. Ground-air-space defenses are also available for end-stage assaults.
