USNews:

67 people are dead in New Nick City, the capitol of the USN, after protests against the new mandatory draft turned violent. Among the 67 killed are estimated to be 32 protesters, 24 civilians (non-protesters), and 11 NNPD officers. The violence began when a group of protesters started throwing rocks, bottles, and cloths set on fire towards the building which houses the Senate. For the saftey of the Senators the building was quickly evacuated. One Senator, George Kearny of the Hometon province, was injured while being rushed to his limousine. He was treated last night for minor injuries in a hospital outside the capitol. But the harming of the Senator stare off a chain of events that lead to the high death rate. One security guard of the Senator, in response to the injury of the Senator, opened fire on the crowd with his handgun, In response to this the 4 other guards of the Senator also opened fire sending the crowd running in different directions. The chaos the ensued turned the street into a war zone, with both sides firing on the other. A small shop was burned down by a group of protesters, killing the man who owned the shop, his wife, and two children who lived above the store. By 8pm, Eastern Nicktonian Time, order had been restored to the capitol and fires were for the most part put out. The chief of the NNPD released a statement today saying, "It was an unfortunate incident but the fault lays solely on the protesters who chose to turn violent." The USN Department of Homeland has said it will be investigating the incident and is expected to crack down on protest groups. President Howard Mills said earlier today, "It's shameful so many had to die because a group of people decided to "protest" an act by this government that was solely meant to protect them and their right to protest. Maybe we will have to change our stance on allowing such large, if any, protests in our great nation." USNews will bring more information to you as it becomes available.

This is indeed a sad turn of events in USN but, Exetonia sees how it came about and is sympathetic towards this new nation. We wish you all the luck and hope we can remain friends despite this inncident. It could ahve been avoided but alas, accidents do happen and we see this as a massive accident and tragedy. Our thoughts go to the families of all those kileld and suggests to USN that since there is dissidence amoingst the younger people about the draft that maybe they reconsider it.
