vs
Defender Jjuulliiaann

The Equalitarianism of Jjuulliiaann:
Democratic Socialism
Giant nation, almost 3 billion people
Large military, emphasis on air force
Embassy in Taldaan, well guarded
Cam III

OOC: Go easy on 'im. Its a 3 billion VS a 1 billion. Give him a chance, and remember: Losses carry on to the next round. You may win, but he will propably knock chunks out of your army. [Sorry Taldaan, it's obvious :)]

Can Taldaan just invade, or do you always need an excuse?
Jjuulliiaann
10-10-2004, 18:29
Once Taldaan attacks, I can attack back, right? I can target the whole country too, not just the forces, right?
Cam III

GROUND RULES:

NOTE: ANY LOSSES IN ROUND 1 WILL BE CARRIED OVER TO ROUND 2.

1) Taldaan may attack without reason, its called warmongering. A reason is prefered, though.
2) [As said before]A nation may attack B nation with ICBMs. Only the attacker can invade, troops are needed to defend home.
3) Under no circumstance can WMDs be used. If they are used, an I.G.N.O.R.E is in order.
4) Please refrain from OOC posts, only use if needed very badly.
5) Obay all rules.
6) Entire armys can be used.

OOC: Why did no-one warn me?

IC: General Faris stood up from the table. She strode towards the gigantic computerized map on the wall. The other generals watched and listened intently as she detailed the plan.
"As you can see, Jjuulliiaann is here. We can attack over the border here..."
She extended a finger to point at a section of the border
"And then procede into the country."

Despite the apparent air of calm in the War Room, the Taldaani top military officials were in a state of near panic. Three days ago, the Taldaani research vessel Seal had gone missing off the coast of Jjuulliiaann. Flyovers by recon aeroplanes coupled with transmissions from the boat determined that it had been sunk by a Jjuulliiaannian (ooc: is this right?) frigate. Diplomacy had failed miserably and the Taldaani people wanted blood. The referendum had proved that. They were going to get it, although it would probably be the blood of Taldaani soldiers.

"So," concluded General Faris, "We attack using the 3rd and 10th Air Cavalry, 6th, 7th, and 15th Armored Cavalry, 8th Recon, 6th Air Wing, a few infantry divisions, plus logistical staff and support staff, over the border from a friendly nation. We send the Admiral Kazansky's 2nd Rapid Reaction Fleet to attack at sea (ooc: you may remember Kazansky from the original. I just he doesn't get killed.), because they're in that area now. We send a carrier group to join them. I just hope they can pull it off."

********************************************************
"Okay. So we're attacking Jjuulliiaann? Don't they have something like ten times our military?"
The men sat in the helicopter, talking about the war to come. They were already on their way. Private Harkness was a "proud" member of the 10th Air Cavalry. His division would be leading the charge into enemy lands.
"Yep. I'm goin' to get me some target practice."
"Hey, Sarge. When did we start letting bloody rednecks into the army?"
The seargent turned around. He was big, about six foot. He stood upright, and looked like the only member of the unit who was at all proud of it.
"Shut up, men. You all think this is going to be a walk in the park, don't you? Well, I've got news for you. It won't be. I've fought in the Air Cavalry before, and believe me, it isn't pretty. I wouldn't give any of you five minutes back in our Independence War. None of you have any idea what it's like, do you?"
The soldiers tried their best not to look worried. They glanced at each other. Their seargent was a minor legend in the 10th AC. He was one of the Serpents, the unit whose helicopter crash-landed in the middle of enemy-held jungle. He was the only one to return. It was claimed that on the way back, out of ammunition, he had got into hand-to-hand combat with an enemy soldier and ripped his throat out with his teeth. No, Seargent Fayette was not a man to be taken lightly.
Harkness bit his nails. He always did this when he was nervous. He wished he had a joint on him, but marijuana was banned in the army. He didn't know what would happen to his unit, but hundreds of ideas occured to him. He didn't particularly like any of them.
The helicopter swung eastwards. The rotor-blade noise cut through the night air. They were on their way to fight and possibly die.
For Taldaan.

OOC: I may not be able to post again for a while. And Jjuulliiaann, could you tell me roughly what your nation is like? Major population centres, geographical features, etc.

Meanwhile, Taldaani Special Forces were moving in on the Embassy. They carried shotguns and sub-machine guns. They slipped through the night, ready to capture the ambassadors.

Across the street, Agent Katherine Black watched from a high window. The sniper rifle lay on the window sill in front of her. Her shot would be the signal for the others to move in.

She raised the rifle, aiming for the one of the door guards. The scope swayed a little as she centred the crosshair diectly between the man's eyes. She held the gun steady, aimed.....

A sharp crack echoed across the street. She moved away from the window, slipping back into the building.

"That's the signal, men. Dmitri, cut the power and phone lines to the building. The rest of you, do it just like I told you earlier."
The agents moved forwards, Dmitri climbing the nearest pylon.
There was a crash and the sound of shattering glass as Agent Yusuf fired his shotgun. The window was blown inwards, and two others fired their sub-machineguns through the gaping hole.
"That should clear the immediate area, now flashbang them and move in!"
They tossed flashbangs through the window, copying an old SWAT tactic.

Meanwhile, at the front, the others were attacking the other guards.

Jjuulliiaann is now on high alert, due to the embassy attack. All borders are being guarded. BTW, Jjuulliiaann is landlocked, and has one main city, "Jjuulliiaann city". Does Taldaan have an embassy here?
OOC: That thing about the dude getting his throat ripped out was sick. That was just nasty. Ugh.
Jjuulliiaann
10-10-2004, 23:18
I will surrender the embassy peacefully if you promise to return the ambassadors unharmed.
Jjuulliiaann
11-10-2004, 15:08
In response to the embassy attack, Jjuulliiaann declares war on Taldaan, but will not invade. All of Jjuulliiaann's troops are on alert, including the reserves. There are constant air patrols over Jjuulliiaann airspace.
Its compassionate, intelligent population of 2.654 billion are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt. The people of Jjuulliiaann are not rebelling, they understand they're duty and are happy to do it.
Here (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=jjuulliiaann), see for yourself.

OOC: Sorry if I offended anyone with the ripping-out-throat thing, I just wanted to introduce Fayette as a vicious, determined fighter. More from him later.
And I don't have an embassy in your country.

IC: "Return the ambassadors unharmed? I think not. We will keep your ambassadors in an undisclosed location. Don't worry, we do not go in for mistreatment of prisoners in Taldaan. They will be well looked after, and allowed to return home once this war is over."

********************************************************

"Landlocked? Why did no-one tell me it was landlocked?"
General Faris was brought her fist down on the table, rattling the glasses.
"When I make a battle plan, I like to have information available."

The other Generals looked on, surprised at her outburst. It wasn't their fault, the sattelite had been broadcasting poorly for the past day. It was fixed now, but it seemed to be causing problems in the War Room even so.

"Well? I want answers! Why was I not informed?"

********************************************************

The helicopters had arrived in neutral ground, just on the right side of the enemy border. They were waiting, now. The rest of the force had not arrived yet, and they needed support before they could do anything. Logistics and Labour staff had arrived with the 10th Air Cavalry, being escorted in their own helicopters, and they were busily setting camp and building temporary runways and helipads. Radar and communications equipment were being unpacked, and weapons were being inspected.
Harkness was bored. This was preferable to abject terror, but he didn't like it anyway. His helicopter had touched down over an hour ago, and he had nothing to do.
Sergeant Fayette had been passing the time by telling more horror stories about his experiences in previous wars. Harkness wondered if he was deliberately scaring the men. Maybe he thought that they would fight better if they were scared. They looked scared.

It was about mid-day when the 3rd Air Cavalry began to arrive. There was a clatter of rotor blades as more helicopters touched down about twenty miles away from the 10th. The Air Force units assigned arrived too, cruising in to land. In around a day, the others would be arriving, and then things would get interesting.

14-10-2004, 17:23
OOC: Sorry. RL stuff. I'll try to post more often, but I can't guarantee once a day.

IC: The cogs were all in place now, and the Taldaan war machine ground forwards. Or at least it was about to.

"Where the hell were you?"
Field Commander Li was practically spitting bullets. She hated her forces to arrive late.
"You should have been here a day ago! What were you doing all that time? Admiring the scenery?"
The burly tank division commander flinched at the verbal assault. Despite standing around a foot taller than Li, he was noticeably intimidated. Despite being short, Field Commander Li had presence.
"Yes, Commander. Sorry, Commander. We had a few breakdowns."
"Breakdowns? You'd better not have a single breakdown once we cross the border, you hear me? Or you'll be demoted to the ranks!"

*******************************************************

After that encounter, the tank division were especially quick loading up. Everyone was in position now. There was a rumbling noise as the Taldaan Army crossed the border. Above them, AWACS planes cruised across the sky, hunting for targets.

********************************************************

Private Harkness felt the helicopter lurch a little as it took off. It rose up into the air, slowly at first, but picking up speed. His helicopter would be near the front of the attack, so if anything went wrong, he would be one of the first dead. He was blissfully unaware of this. What he was completely aware of was that he was supposed to be door gunner. He wasn't exactly sure about this, as that meant being near the side, so any penetrations would probably hit him.
Seargent Fayette looked like the only one of them who wasn't scared. He sat calmly at the front, cleaning his gun. He almost didn't seem to care that they were moving into enemy territory, and probably enemy fire.....

14-10-2004, 23:49
Jjuulliiaann's radar systems have spotted Taldaan's army and the air force and some ground troops are moving to intercept.
Also, Jjuulliiaann does have some ICBMs.
Jjuulliiaann
14-10-2004, 23:52
To Taldaan: If you do not pull back immediately, we will fire ICBMs on your military bases.
Does Taldaan have ICBMs?
Jjuulliiaann
14-10-2004, 23:53
According to our radar scans, the force we sent to intercept should be a few times the size of the Taldaanese (?) force. However, there are still many, many reserves.
Taldaan
15-10-2004, 19:42
OOC: It's Taldaani. And I do have some ICBMs, although I only launch conventional ones normally. I don't use nukes lightly.

IC: Field Commander Li saw the incoming message light light up on her radio. She pressed the accept button and listened intently.
"We have enemy force around five kilometers from our position. It's mainly air force, but with some ground forces as well. They look to have about twice our manpower."
"Twice? Are you sure about that?"
The AWACS pilot paused.
"Affirmative, Commander. Is that everything?"
"Yes. Over and out."
She clicked the radio off.
"Twice our size, mainly air force. Hmm..."
She opened a channel to the entire force.
"Helicopters, I want you to launch missiles, then drop. You won't stand a chance in the air. Infantry, get under cover. Anti-aircraft vehicles, get ready, because their air wing is closing in fast. Once they are within range, I want anti-air missiles fired. Tanks, get under cover for the air strike, then attack once they are within range. And I want a group ready to attack the flank. Air wings, wait until the enemy air force has passed overhead, then I want interceptors to attack from behind. You can outrun them. Bombers, also wait until the enemy air-force has passed overhead, then bomb the crap out of their ground forces."

********************************************************
The helicopters fired missiles, a wave of silver streaks cutting through the air towards the enemy. On the ground, infantry fired Stingers, vehicles fired anti-air missiles, and the missile artillery fired their lethal payloads towards the enemy ground force.
Almost immediately, the helicopters dropped downwards, below the treeline, hoping that they would be less visible down there.
Li wiped a bead of sweat from her brow. She was worried about this. She had never had to take on a force so much larger than hers before.

Jjuulliiaann would like to commence peace negotiations with Taldaan. We are not begging for mercy, we simply don't want any lives to be lost. Please withdraw your troops until the peace talks begin. Thank you.
OOC: Since I started the negotiations, Taldaan would advance to the semifinals, not me (if the negotiations are successful).

The diplomat looked down at the message, his glasses almost falling off due to the angle of his head. He read the message carefully, then read it again to make sure he hadn't missed anything. Sure enough, this was an offer of negotiations. He shuffled his chair to the computer and began to type....

Official Telegram from Taldaan to Jjuulliiaann

To the Government of Jjuulliiaann

We too detest unnecessary loss of life, and would be delighted to attend negotiations. However, we believe that certain rules must be laid down for said talks:

1. Negotiations must take place in a mutually acceptable neutral nation
2. No military conflict shall take place between our nations for the duration of the talks
3. Armed guards are permitted, but both nations must have an equal number, up to a maximum of twenty, and they shall stay outside the building used for the negotiations.
4. No person entering the building may be armed in any way, although they may wear body armour. Anyone entering will be searched.

As requested, our forces will withdraw from your nation.

I suggest the nation of Cam III hold the talks. My ambassadors will wear heavy body armor and we will have 20 armed guards outside of the building.

OK.
We are not asking for your surrender, nor are we begging for mercy.
We, however, realize that this war is just an excuse for the bloodshead of innocent people.
Realizing that, as in any war, the death of civilians and innocents is inevitible, we request a mutual peace pact agreement.
We would like our ambassadors from the embassy to be returned, unharmed, and, if possible, for the embassy to be demolished.
We would not, however, agree to a "rite of passage" agreement, and all trade will be cut off. This is not a trade embargo, as we are not forbidding citizens from traveling to Taldaan of trading with it; we are just not going to directly supply the Taldaan governement will our wares of visa versa.
The declerations of war will be called off imediatly, and the soldiers will be taken off of duty, as soon as we can agree to these terms.
Thank you.
Taldaan
30-10-2004, 10:51
We too detest the loss of innocent life, and agree with what you say. However, this war was started for a reason: the Taldaani Research Vessel Seal was sunk by Jjuulliiaann forces (ooc: as stated at the start of the RP). While we too do not wish for more fighting, we do wish a formal apology and compensation of $15 million for the vessel.
As long as our terms are met, your unharmed ambassadors will be returned as swiftly as is possible. As you have requested, we will demolish the embassy. Please let us know if you require anything in the embassy returned to you.

Jjuulliiaann
30-10-2004, 16:55
OOC: How do your peace talks work, Cam III?
IC: We are extremely sorry for the loss of that vessel. One of our intelligence agencies, the IIA, or International Intelligence Agency, incorrectly reported that the vessel was manufacturing refined plutonium. As we realize that the vessel was for research not pertaining to nuclear weapons, we will pay the $15 million for the boat, and $5 million to the family of each worker on the boat. The $15 million has been securely transferred immediately to the Taldaani federal government, and we are wiring the money to the families individually, along with formal apologies.
Thank you.
