Planta Genestae
09-10-2004, 12:23
There has been a massive outpouring of joy on the streets of Caen today, as the population has celebrated the official coming of age of Duke Geoffrey's only child, Henry. The handsome young man was seen on the balcony of Feudal Palace waving to the crowds who lined the streets of the nation's capital waiting to catch a glimpse of their future Lord.
Henry, who even a year ago was visibly taller than his father, is to celebrate his 17th Birthday this evening by having a mass ball in the family's country estate of Falaise, in order to celebrate the fact that he may now, should our good master Duke Geoffrey suddenly die, occupy the throne.
Despite the obvious fact that this is but the traditional age of majority, there could be felt a general sigh of relief for the arrival of this day, for the public appearances of Duke Geoffrey have become even more infrequent, due to the Duke's crippling respiratory illness. Despite his relatively young age at 49 (two years younger than his wife), the physical decline of the Duke is now utterly visible and the nobles and statesmen of Planta Genestae were nervous about the effect of having a minority should the Duke have died prior to today. Even worse was the possibility of the young Henry's death which would have provoked a major succession crisis.
But by the look of his performance today, that now seems a long way off, and the future of Planta Genestae looks increasingly bright. However, the future will only be truly secure when the young man finds a wife and produces the next heir to the throne.
