Dr. Franz Avel sat at his desk looking over files. Files that were very important to the Imperium. Suddenly the door chimed. Avel hit the comm button on his desk.
“Who is it?”, he asked in a gruff voice.

The voice that came back over the speaker was General Gendo Aida, the head of the Evangelion Corps. “Its me.”

Avel sighed and relaxed. He set the files back in a desk drawer. “Come in Gendo.”

The door opened and General Aida walked in slowly. His eyes, as they nearly always were, were hidden behind his dark glasses. He smiled then said, “A bit on edge Franz?”

Dr. Avel rubbed the side of his head and sighed again, “Its all this work on the new AI system. We’ve diverted nearly all our resources to it. That and Julius is stopping by today. You know Gendo, it would be a lot easier to work if he didn’t feel the need to stop by personally all the time to check on the progress. Why the Hell does he think they set the subspace comm network? Certainly not so he could ignore it and come all the way from the capital to stop in.”

“Indeed”, Gendo laughed. “But the Emperor likes to have keep his eye, or at least through his advisors, on the Imperium’s most delicate projects. Remember, it was the same back when we were working on Project-E. But, speaking of Lord Tarkin’s visit, I did have some matters to discuss with you. When you give him your status report, are you planning on informing him of our ‘discovery’ we made during the latest test of the S-2 engine?”

Avel’s eyes widened. “I had thought about that. I don’t think know is the time for that however. The Emperor and Lord Tarkin have more important things to worry about than that.”

Aida nodded his agreement. “Yes I suppose the Emperor wouldn’t want to know that one of his most powerful war machines is now more powerful than we ever could have imagined.” He walked the rest of the way towards Avel’s desk then took a seat in front of it. “Oh, and I did want to let you know that you need not worry. The pilot is fine. He sustained no severe injuries during the incident. I just came from the medical bay. He will recover fully within a few days or so.”

“Good. I’d rather not loose anymore pilots at the hands of your ‘toys’.”, Avel replied, trying to mask the sting of his remark.

“They may be my toys Doctor, but you and your department were kind enough to assist in developing them for me”, Aida shot back. “Now lets not argue Franz, we’re on the same side here. Let us just Tarkin his progress report and be done with it.”
“I agree Gendo. Anyway, he should be here within the hour”, Avel sat back in his chair.
