At approximately 0730 today, the groundbreaking ceremony was held to announce the beginnings of construction for the new Archona Naval Shipyards. Consisting of 10 enormous "Adaptable" dry-dock construction yards, each capable of producing capital ships ranging in size from a typical frigate to a tri-maran carrier/destroyer like the type currently being constructed in the current Ventei Shipyards (expected completion date in 10 years), 40 dry docks for capital ships of lesser magnitude, and larger numbers of dry docks for secondary craft and merchant vessels, the Shipyards are expected to be the largest construction project undertaken by the Dominion to date.
Situated in Archona Bay, the shipyards will take advantage of natural geography to maximize docking capacity and traffic management, as well as operate as a testbed for multiple experimental technologies with naval applications.
Grand Admiral Torrence Wintergreen, Commander of the Godulan Navy, was quoted as saying "Daaaaaaaaaaaaamn!" and then hopping about with glee for several minutes.
The Twelfth One, Governate Warlord and High Commander of the Godulan Military, was reported in "Appeased" condition. "It is for the best. Logistical and Tactical analyses indicated that Archona Bay would be the 'most reliable' location for the shipyards. It is understood."
Cassius Longarm, Grand Poobah of the Governate, stated that the completion of the Archona Shipyards would herald a new era in Godulan naval power. "It only makes sense. Have you seen the size of the 'Wavecrasher'?" (indicating the name of the new Tri-Maran Battlecarrier currently under construction) "Its colossal! And to think that we'd have the capacity to start up construction of 10 of the damn things in rapid sequence if we had the resources and manpower!"
The completion time for the shipyards is estimated at Forty years, with a small part of the installation coming active every Eight years, beginning with the merchant and secondary ship construction docks.
